When Ivy is mistaken for his twin sister, Clover, he happily accepts the one-way ticket out of his small town life. But the trip comes with a cost—a prophesied marriage to the stoic and bad-tempered crown prince.
Can Ivy hold his tongue long enough to bask in the riches of royal life? Or will his attraction to the handsome gardener lead him to the gallows?
While Ivy faces a choice between a life of love or loathing, Clover’s ever-growing magic draws her closer to the palace.
And she is hellbent on rescuing her beloved brother.
Between Ground and Sky is a cozy queer fantasy romance. It features dragons, crossdressing, elemental magic, mistaken identities, and love. This book is meant to be a retreat from the real world. There is no homophobia, nor on-the-page violence. It's not designed to keep you at the edge of your seat; it's meant to be a pleasant escape that you can return to on rough days. I sincerely hope you enjoy it. - E.M.M.
Between Ground and Sky is a cozy romance with magical stories wound throughout, and I absolutely love it. Clover and Ivy are twins, but couldn't be more different, and I love how their paths unfold. It's a story of realizing what you thought you wanted wasn't the right path, and learning to change when necessary, and love growing in unexpected places.
A lovely, comfy fantasy read. A real "Throw on your favorite whimsical tavern playlist and cozy up with some tea" type of read. Really loved the world building and magic/elements system, and the writing style has shades of Gaimen at moments.
I think cozy fantasy is not really my preference for fantasy. This was fine, but it was a bit long for not really much happening. I think ~200 pages vs 300+ would have made this feel so draggy.
Also, dragonblood babies that claw their way out of the womb, killing their mothers was not something I expected from a book claiming to be a cozy fantasy with no on page violence. That description alone is rather violent.
No lie, this is my FAVORITE book. It starts off like a classic fantasy. It reads like a Disney movie with lush, magical world building and bright, lovable characters. While keeping to the classic fairy tale vibe, the narrative is contemporary and easy to follow. Fans of THE SECRET SOCIETY OF IRREGULAR WITCHES and HOW TO FAKE DATE YOUR DEMON will love this cozy little YA.
