The Art of Self-Deprecating Wit

This is the first book I’ve read by this author, and I'm surprised by how much I enjoyed it! The author has perfected the art of writing a character with self-deprecating wit…not an easy thing! I loved the chapters from the heroine's perspective because of this. This natural wit extended to her banter with the hero, which was so enjoyable as well. The author writes in an effortless, natural way that probably takes her some effort but makes it such a pleasure for the reader. I was captivated by the characters from the first chapter, felt immediately immersed in the story, and thoroughly enjoyed the book until the end. The chemistry between the characters sizzled off the page. The only thing I didn't like was the numerous issues with grammar, punctuation, and usage. The book has many run-on sentences and sentences that should have had commas but didn't. As I am a word nerd and grammar geek, this did occasionally detract from my enjoyment of the story, unfortunately. I did receive an ARC copy of this book, but when I checked the look inside feature on Amazon, I found that the errors persisted in the published edition. While the mechanics of the writing were bothersome, the characterization and story flow carried me through despite those problems. If you like well-written, witty romances heavy on the opposites-attract theme, and don’t mind many grammar errors, give this delightful read a chance.

I received a free digital copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

This is the first book I have read by Natalie Anderson and I really liked it a lot. I thought the plot was interesting. The chemistry and interaction between the hero and heroine was really fun and kept my attention throughout the story. I feel Natalie's pacing and delivery of her story was spot on. Reading this book made me want to go read the previous two in this series.

Lucy is flighty and never stays in one place for very long. She either gets bored quickly with her job or finds herself getting in trouble. Daniel meets her at a temp agency where she is applying for work. He is in desperate need of a manager for his sisters bar. Daniel is an attorney and doesn't have time to run the bar. He decided to take a chance on Lucy knowing her situation. Lucy is determined to prove to Daniel that she can successfully run the bar and make it better than it was previously. These two are always bumping heads, but the chemistry between them has them sharing an evening in each others arms. What was supposed to be a one time thing quickly turns into many nights. They have both gone through some trauma in their lives which has led them to the whole don't get attached and love isn't forever rule. What happens when they get too close to one another...will they bail or finally commit to something more permanent?

Teasing Her Grumpy Boss is the third standalone novel in Natalie Anderson's Billionaire Bosses, Forbidden Flings series. Lucy never stays in one place long, moving from job-to-job and town-to-town before she can form any attachments or get bored. Daniel is a staid attorney, a workaholic who will never commit after he watched his mother walk out on his father and abandon them both. But when he needs to find a manager quickly for his cousin's bar and stumbles upon her at an employment agency, these two complete opposites (except for their mutual aversion for commitment) each have something to offer the other. Including ridiculous chemistry. Will giving into it once get them over one another or have they started something that has the potential to burn out of control? Scintillating, spicy and steamy, Daniel and Lucy's story is a entertaining slow-burn read.

I have enjoyed so many of this author’s books but this one - not so much.

I didn’t take to the heroine - she’s far too aggressive and spiky. She transforms from flaky, never settles or achieves anything - to successful, professional bar manager in a matter of days.

I found the hero equally uninteresting. He’s followed his father’s example unquestioningly for years but suddenly sees he’s wrong? No I didn’t buy it. I did like the inner monologues - they showed us how the hero was changing.

This is not a bad book, I enjoyed a lot of it - but it’s not her best.

This book needs a new name and synopsis.
Just because heroine is sleeping with hero doesn't make her a mistress because she is not his paid plaything. The word "Mistress" has been so wrongfully used throughout the HP series and it's really a shame cause this book was a very decent read.
Two ppl of opposite nature coming together and falling for each other, no sob story, no venomous agenda, just a love story. But the title and the synopsis totally ruined the first expression.

I did like it (but I only gave 2 stars because I only give books I would re-read 3 stars and above). I liked the hero and heroine and their relationship, but did find the plot of the bar to be boring. I didn't like that heroine unintentionally proved hero right in his opinion of her (her leaving when going gets tough) I know his actions contributed to hers but I was disappointed. Np.

Daniel and Lucy may be opposites on a spectrum, but time spent together draws them together and although he doesn't do relationships he enters into an agreement with Lucy for a short-term tryst. Will Lucy end up losing her heart to the one man she is drawn to. This story kept me glued to the pages.

Loving this series with all the angst, steam, and undeniable attraction!
I was pulled in from the first chapter and didn’t put the book down until I turned the last page! I loved how Lucy and Daniel butt heads so to say, but could only deny the attraction between them for so long. Will Daniel finally succumb to a relationship? You have to read to find out!

When free-spirited Lucy Delaney meets stuffed-shirt legal hot shot Daniel Graydon it’s instant irritation, only she really needs the job. The annoyingly beautiful woman is beyond infuriating yet somehow super-focused. Daniel hires her on the spot. Less than twenty-four hours later he can’t decide whether to fire her or kiss her already… An intriguing read. And am voluntarily leaving my review.

Undoubtedly, it was not the cover or the title of the book which made me want to read Mistress Under Contract. Rather, I found it short book and the synopsis seemed good enough.

It isn't like Harlequin doesn't publish good books, but they, at times, show an irritating knack for destroying the value of a book. The title of the book makes you think about some reckless alcoholic man who forces a woman to sign a sex contract with him. It's sad really and the cover is just terrible.

Instead, these are two people, poles apart, who suffer from insomnia and decide to spend their nights together. There is no 'contract;' just a simple agreement.
Anyhow, the book was great. I liked the story a lot, it had all the right amount of sizzle, witty comebacks and enough dialog to make it worthwhile. I liked the main characters, their fear and flaws. It was a good, short read.

Good story about opposites who make each other complete.

I wish series books would give over on the outdated titles!
