Pack Darling #3

Redfang Royal

Rate this book
I'm trying to be a good girl.

Every day, I lie and pretend I'm not a threat. I swallow insults and avoid the electric fence, crossing fingers I can fake my way to freedom before I snap and end up permanently caged.

Borrowing my sister's identity is my last chance at escape.

But Serafina Redfang isn't just a cartel heiress. She's the reason I can never mate the pack of my childhood dreams.

Su Jin, Bishop, Dutch, and Reese already belong to her.

Now I have to pretend to be theirs. To smile, hide my scars, and let them close before I let them go forever.

I'm not really Redfang royalty.

I might not even be a real omega.

But if the guys keep bulldozing my lies, you're about to meet the real me.

I'm Marisol Redfang, and I'm done hiding my claws.

Redfang Royal is a whychoose omegaverse that includes profanity, consensual spice (with MM pairings), and a mix of darker themes and humor. It is technically a standalone novel, but you'll have more fun if you've already read Pack Darling.
Please check the triggers and tags before sinking your teeth into Marisol's story!

I want to kick this off by saying that no one is more disappointed in the review I’m about to give than I am. Keep in mind, this is just my opinion, so I’m happy for those who felt differently about this book. I really want all readers to know that I love Pack Darling and Lola Rock so much. Pack Darling is one of my all-time favorite comfort re-reads so this has been one of my most anticipated reads all years. Unfortunately, I found this to be underwhelming. It was missing the magic that Pack Darling had. If I’m being totally candid, I think this book reads more like a draft that needs more work and editing, and it needs more honest feedback from beta readers.

There are spoilers below, so please read at your own risk.

My biggest issue with this book is that there is very little dialogue. The main characters never discuss anything important. Sol never tells them about what happened with the Orlovs or what she experienced at the SAS. She never even tells them in a clear way what her abilities are or tells her mates about the ghost bond. The guys all seem to suddenly just “know” things without ever having a proper vulnerable or revealing conversation with Sol. The only semi-important and transparent conversation was between Sol and Lilah towards the very end of this book.

The dialogue that the characters did have was confusing. They seemed to jump around in the conversation so much. There was no transition in conversations - it was all completely random. Sometimes it felt like the characters were having 2 different conversations. Often times, there would suddenly be another character who would appear in the convo when they hadn’t been part of it before, and they would be piping into the conversation, and I’m over here like wtf where the hell did he come from?

In general, this book just had too many metaphors, similes, symbolism, and description. It was distracting. I never knew what was actually happening in any scene. I love omegaverse, but this book overdid it with the adjectives to describe everyone’s scent allll the freaking time. Once again, it was distracting, and it made me unsure of what was actually happening in scenes. The inner monologues of every character all read like cavemen or literal animals (but not sexy..just like…weird and a little annoying). Everything was 1-word adjectives, nipping and teasing, and then *the character panics!*….and then rinse and repeat. It made it hard to wade through all the bullshit and figure out what was actually going on in each scene beyond these characters’ 5 senses (aka what they smelled, tasted, felt, etc.).

Despite there being no spice until the last ~6 consecutive chapters (srsly it was too much all at once—I was a bit bored), I felt like this book was so focused on the physical aspect of their relationships (with Marisol’s body being different) and Marisol’s internal trauma (which, as mentioned, she never ended up talking about with the guys on-page), that they never really built up anything outside of the physical. All of the guys were underwhelming.

🥞 Dutch: I wanted to like Dutch, but he was more pathetic than anything. He was a very blatant combination of Orion and Finn from Pack Darling in that he was needy but a little psycho. He gets fucked by everyone in the pack (literally) and is extremely needy like Orion. In his capacity as a rip-off Finn, he was psychotically obsessed with Sol. However, unlike Finn, we don’t really get any additional depth - he had zero personality beyond loving the guys and Sol. (I do like Finn and Orion…Dutch just wasn’t it)
🍑 Bishop: Bish was disappointing mostly because I initially thought he was the most interesting character. Unfortunately, in every scene between Bishop and Sol, I had NO IDEA what was happening. They spoke exclusively in cryptic language and metaphors. It was all like “no lies”, “I see you”, “ruin me”, etc., but then their inner monologues would be about something random, and I’d be like, literally what the hell is happening? What are they fucking talking about? Sometimes suddenly he would just know things about Sol’s past, and I’d be like huh? How did he make that leap? I also hated that they called him “Bish.” It felt like cringey slang for bitch. And I really hate that he called Sol “Queen” and he was “King Bish” (gag me)…just…stick with princess, please. Idk why, but princess as a pet name is eons better than queen. When he handed her a vibrator and said something about it being her queen scepter, I wanted to throw my kindle.
⚡️ Jin: Jin was boring. I couldn’t care less about him. He was pretty uninspiring as the so-called pack leader.
🍫 Reese: I wanted to like Reese but feel like the book didn’t dig deep enough into his character. I wish Sol talked to him about how she would watch his games and still supported him during their time apart. Once again, everything felt so metaphorical when they would talk. He’d just be like “do you see me?”, “you don’t want me”, “you’re going to reject me”, “say my name”, “say my name like this instead”, etc etc etc. There was nothing really real or substantive. All of their dialogue was just a bunch of emotional symbolic mumbo-jumbo that I didn’t really understand what either character was saying before it would devolve into either an angry/upset reaction or a sexual reaction.

The takedown of Jericho and Jericho’s dad (I just finished this book and I forget his name) was underwhelming. Why did Serafina get to take them down? I was annoyed that, of all characters, Serafina was the one to get that closure. On top of that, it happened off-page…this was so disappointing for readers who were waiting to read about that take-down and justice served. Additionally, I really don’t want the next book in this universe to be about Serafina, but I have a feeling it will be. I probably won’t read that.

It really made no sense that the SAS and the Triad teamed up at the end. Why did either organization want her back so badly? I swear it was not explained well at all. The triad signed the contract and got the Redfang fortune. The SAS took down Nikolai Redfang and then abandoned Sol to be sold at an auction - why are they fighting like hell to recapture Sol? Can this government organization really take away someone from their fated mate, especially going as far as to team up with the mafia to do it? And the government can really keep her forced in a ghost bond with decaying men in vegetative states? I don’t understand their motivations in keeping her in that ghost bond for all those years. It wasn’t explained well. I also don’t think the commander is actually dead - it seemed like Sol just beat her until she was unconscious? I also wanted Dr. Brandon to have a worse death. Similar to Jericho and Papa Jericho’s deaths, there wasn’t good closure there.

Also, I am still confused as to whether Sol is an omega or gamma or an omega*..? It seemed like she suddenly turned into an omega at the end. She was also described by others and self-described by herself as all 3 titles throughout the book. The writing was extremely unclear on this.

Maybe I'm just dumb, but this book really needed to spell things out a bit more in a clearer way and have the characters communicate in a normal conversation just fucking one time.

Anyways, I guess I enjoyed this book and read it quickly, but it’s not even in the same league as Pack Darling. I think it needs more work. I was really disappointed that the characters never really had decent conversations about their past traumas, their lives together when Sol was Solomon, and about their years apart. I’m still not sure why the guys disappeared on Solomon back then. I don’t think it was ever really explained well beyond Reese getting tortured and the guys eventually winding up at Wyvern Academy.

It felt like the author was very focused on making this funny and sexy, and at times it is, but I think it was done at the detriment of the actual characters and story-building. The humor felt forced and cringe in some places, as if it is desperately trying to appeal to the TikTok masses.

Perhaps it is unfair of me to compare this to Pack Darling, but given that it is a spin-off book and it is in the same universe, it cannot be helped. 3 stars.

✅ Reverse harem and some smut
✅ A little bit of Lilah and her mates
✅ Pace and action
✅🆗 Plot (✅ ideas, 🆗 execution)
✅🆗 Writing (overuse of metaphors - and weird ones too)
🆗(❌) First 20% (I was SO confused)
🆗(❌) Lack of backstories
❗️❗️Trigger warnings: mentions of past and present abuse, experimentation on MC, captivity

I was confused when I first read the blurb, so here is a clearer one (I hope).

Marisol is one of Nikolaj Redfang’s many bastard children, and she has been the “property” of the SAS for a while now. After discovering that she is not an omega, but rather a gamma, a new type that has special abilities, they took her and are now using her as a test subject, and special weapon when they need to. When a mission goes awry, and Sol is forced to mascarade as her half-sister Serafina, she sees this as her chance to finally escape the SAS and disappear, but she didn’t count on her childhood friends kidnapping her, thinking that she is Serafina Redfang. Now she finds herself stuck with her dream pack and long-lost friends, and they have no idea who she is.

This was so chaotic, and I was so confused. I thought that I missed a book of a prequel, because I had no idea who the characters were, what their connection to each other was, and overall, I was missing some basic background info… Information that was later revealed in a way that made it seem as though I should have known already? It was seriously jarring at first, and I kept searching on Goodreads to see what book or novella I missed between Pack Darling and this book. The writing was also too full of metaphors to be enjoyable. It wasn’t so bad at first, but after a few chapters, it began to annoy me. Instead of making the story more vivid, it rendered it stilted and just plain weird at times.

Honestly, I forced myself to continue reading because this is the Pack Darling series, and I loved the 2 first books so much, that I had to give this one a real chance. Sadly, I just couldn’t get into it. If it were any other book by an author I didn’t love, I probably would have stopped at 10% because I was too confused to enjoy it. It gets better after the 20% mark and the ideas are good, but the execution is lacking.

I am not a fan of flashbacks in books, but in this one, I think it would have been helpful to have some, to help us understand Sol’s past with the alphas, and also to understand everything that happened to her that was mentioned, but never truly explained. It would also have been nice to have some from the alphas’ POV to help us understand why they hated Kairo, Triad, and Jericho so much, or even to know that they shared a brief past with the Wyvern pack before that information was just dropped on us.

Who are the bad guys here? Triad? Kairo? The SAS? The Redfang gang? Jericho? Nikolaj? It is not clear, and I don’t even know who is working with or against whom. They also keep referring to Seraphina’s brother not being here anymore (so I assume he is dead), and her fiancé is at the hospital I think? Marisol also mentions her brothers that sold her, but we don’t know shit about them… Again, the pieces of information were just dropped there without any explanation or details, making it hard to understand or care about what happened.

While Sol was an interesting main character, the alphas were all uni-dimensional and seriously lacked depth. They all had their one defining trait, and that was about it. Dutch is the golden retriever puppy who’s obsessed with fucking and biting Sol (also, the golden retriever attitude annoyed me so much, I didn’t find it endearing at all, he just seemed to be obsessed with sex, and not in a sexy way), Reese is the athletic boy-next-door, Jin is the intense one and he cooks, and Bish (what a weird nickname) is the refined one that sees through Sol’s lies. That’s all there is to know about them.

There was smut, but it was pretty much all in the last 15%, and it was not the best smut I’ve read. There is a heat scene that lasts for about 20 pages, but it’s basically Sol having sex with each of the guys, one after the other in a sex-knot-bite repetition.

Sol never really has any meaningful conversation with any of them. There were a few moments with Bish, but even if she opened herself more with him, their conversations remained pretty shallow. There were topics that I feel could and should have been explored more, like the fact that Sol knew the alphas from before when she pretended she was a guy. They realize that she is the boy they knew, but then they don’t talk about it anymore. It drove me nuts how they didn’t speak about it or their shared past.

I’m sorry but Dutch is the most annoying and ridiculous character I’ve ever read about? I think he was supposed to be a golden retriever boyfr but he was more like an infantilized AND sex-crazed version of Orion. I wanted to gouge my eyes out whenever he appeared. Literally WTF??!?

Also nothing anybody said was making sense? The metaphors and ridiculous and cringey dialogue was giving Massimo from 365 days…. just no. Definitely not what I expected from Lola Rock

I was in the mood for a good omegaverse and this one delivered! It had all the angst you’d want in a book but, it took a different approach from the last one. There was no bullying, these guys worshipped her from the beginning. Even with this, it didn’t feel like insta love, the romance developed at a good pace. I loved how each guy had their own identity. Oftentimes, everyone except the main character can start to blue together in a why choose, especially when they are all guys. It also had an interesting new aspect to the world building that I hadn’t seen before. The FMC is a gamma and we get to learn everything that means for her and others around her. I hope there are more books coming out because I’d love to read more and explore this new side of OVs.

There were still some small things that could have been better. The FMC was constantly pushing away the MMCs which got frustrating after a while. Although her reasoning was valid, I think it was because she kept going back and forth that really made it irritating. I also wish they just talked more. They never talk about anything important. They don’t talk about the guys’ past since they last saw each other or about anything happened to Sol. She doesn’t share anything and they don’t ask. But these two things were minor and didn’t take away from the enjoyment of the book.

This had all the best qualities as the last story but I think I liked this one better. It’s slow burn and angsty but it also has some really sweet, heartwarming moments. I loved all the characters, the plot, the obsessed guys, the strong female lead, all of it. I’m glad I picked this book up so soon!

I’ve never really owned a thing. Sometimes, I don’t even think I’m real. I’m lies on lies on lies.

The chokehold that this world has on me. Oh My GOD. Nothing can describe the level of obsession I had with the Pack Darling duet. And I was feral for this book ever since we get a small glimpse of Marisol in the first two books. So obviously my expectations were higher than the ceiling for this book.

I liked the fact that this book had a much different vibe then Pack Darling. It had the delicious slow burn and a fierce heroine, yes. But it wasn't the gritty and emotional powerhouse that Pack Darling was. It had a splash of comedy and a lighter tone while still having some grit to it.

Marisol came out of the same academy as Lilah, but then landed in an even bigger hell called SAS. Her history and background is a mysterious one and leaves you desperate to peel back the layers of who Marisol really is and what she hides. When Sol gets forced on a mission that lands her in the sights of her childhood crushes, she doesn't know how to deal. They have no idea who she is but it doesn't take them long to put the pieces together. But Sol's secrets are dark and dangerous, and while her mates are desperate for her and she is for them, her secrets prevent her from having what she desperately craves.

As with pack darling, we get 4 alphas with Jin, Dutch, Bishop, and Reese. Now admittedly, it took me a while to really connect with the characters. Sol was an instant click. The woman is a whole vibe. But the men felt a touch two dimensional, particularly Dutch. It feels like his entire personality was about being horny. I had a hard time buying his being an alpha, because his vibes were barely even beta. It was a strange one. He was such an adorable puppy dog of a man, but I wanted his alpha vibes. The rest of the men were fascinating, but I couldn't help but feel they were missing a bit of development to really make me connect and understand them. I loved their obsession with Sol, but I wanted more layers to them. Bishop in particular.

All that aside, the story itself packed a punch. There was plenty of action, suspense, and a cameo from my favorite Wyverin pack. The romance was a slow burn and when they finally come together, it was absolutely incendiary. I loved Sol's fierce and protective nature. She isn't someone who needs saving. If anything, she takes protecting her men violently serious. I loved her bloodthirsty vibes. I'm also incredibly curious about a secondary character who we get introduced to, Serafina. I really hope we get her book next because I'm so hooked already.

If you're looking for an omegaverse with plenty of feels, laughs, MM action, a fierce heroine and lots of action, definitely check this out. I can't wait to see what Lola writes next!

I love this author and the first two books in this series. If you haven't read those, I highly recommend them.

That said...

There were some things I loved about this book.
• Dutch's golden retriever personality (though, admittedly, it was OTT at times)
• Marisol's extra badassery
• a Wyvern pack appearance

Sadly, there were a lot of things that just didn't work for me, as well.
• writing style (metaphor overload)
• imbalance between narration (with heavy introspection) and dialog
• lack of communication as a plot device
• telling vs. showing
• lack of character development
• loose plot threads
• uneven pacing

I would like to thank the goddess herself Lola Rock for bestowing an ARC copy!

So first I should say that Pack Darling might just be my favorite book of all time. It is hands down my comfort book, my therapist if you will. Any emotion I’m feeling good or bad deserves a Pack Darling Moment™️. I exposed myself to my IRL bestie and bought her these books so she could sink into the depths of depravity with me. My love for this series really knows no bounds.

But because of this, I was convinced going in, that I could never love Redfang Royal as much.

I was but a young naive girl 😔😔

Redfang Royal, and Sol in particular, are absolute perfection! I’m going to try not to give away any spoilers, but as for vibes, this was equal parts hilarious and heart wrenching in perfect balance. Every other sentence in this book is a quotable, guffaw worthy one liner, but the subject matter and what Sol has to go through is pretty dark.

Pack Darling was already so good at packing in moments in between the trauma that made me cackle like I was sharing an inside joke with a bestie. For Redfang Royal this was turned up to a level 10 😂

Lola has this magical way of writing heroines who are vulnerable to the readers and so easy to empathize with, but who are so strong in their day to day lives and are honestly the heroes of their own story. She really makes them earn their happy ending, and that's still very much the case for Sol too. Our girl is definitely no Lilah copy, but she's so strong, so easy to love, and it's equally easy to see why they would be best friends! If you turned to mush for Lilah, Sol's story will definitely deliver all of the sticky ooey gooey feelings that hit that omegaverse spot just right.

This was magnificent, utter perfection! the only thing wrong with it is that it’s over. 🥲 I think its safe to say that the entire Pack Darling universe are now my comfort series, and so clearly the only option to recover is to just go do my regular Pack Darling re-read💜

After Pack Darling 1 & 2 (which I quite enjoyed, even if they aren't perfect) I wanted to have high expectations for this book... but honestly one read through of the blurb made me confused so my hopes were actually quite low. And this book rather met those expectations, unfortunately.

Let's start with my confusion, which persisted throughout most of the story. There were a lot of bad guys in this book: the Triad, SAS, Jericho and his dad, Nikolaj, random packs that I can't remember... and there was just never quite enough distinction or explanation between all of them to satisfy my understanding. I really needed just a little bit more so that I could understand why they are all involved and the motivations driving each group. This, along with just a weird number of tropes and plot bunnies (the FMC was disguised both as a guy and as her twin sister at different points), made it feel like the author got a little over excited and couldn't decide what to include in the book and so just included everything.

There were four MMCs in the harem and since I generally prefer smaller harems, I expected this to be a good thing. I like being able to really get to know the characters. But here is another place where this book failed to deliver. While on a superficial level the MMCs were all very easy to distinguish (they each had their own tick) we really did not get a very deep understanding of any of them. Sure Dutch is a total obsessive love bug (who didn't seem to be able to form compound sentences), but like what were his goals in life? What does he do for fun? Same goes for Jin, we learn basically nothing about him except that he is the pack leader. That is his defining trait. We get a bit more depth from Bish (terrible nickname by the way) and probably the most from Reese, but I really didn't feel very satisfied. I actually had a similar complaint from Lilah's books that we didn't get enough depth from the MMCs, so this seems like an ongoing trend.

Also the sex was boring? It was mostly kept to the end when Sol goes into heat and then its just like three chapters of knot, bite, knot, bite, knot, bite, knot, bite. There was no flavour, just sex repeated ad nauseam.

My next point was that the writing got a bit weird in places, like it was trying to be fancy but ended up just sounding stilted. I meant to pull a few examples, but I can't be bothered to do that now. Overall this book felt like it was published before it was ready. I really think a serious pass with a developmental editor would help bring this story up from a meh to a yay.

P.S. I should take a moment to say that this book wasn't all bad (I did give it two stars instead of just one). I did like the plot twist with Sol's powers and what was making them act out. It wasn't super surprising (I had suspicions pretty early on), but it was quite creative and enjoyable to discover.

I JUST DOWNLOADED THE BOOK TO MY KINDLE. I CAN'T WAIT TO START ANOTHER BOOK IN THE PACK DARLING UNIVERSE!!! <3 <3 <3

update: I told myself I was going to savor the book but then I ended up bingeing it in a day lmao why am I like this.

A new release in the Pack Darling universe is basically my Super Bowl, thank you very much.

I could scream from the rooftops how much I LOVE Lola Rock's writing. This was bonkers and fun, packed with action and brought me so much joy! Her proclivity to write unhinged gremlin (in the best way) FMCs is the best.

It's slow burn, mildly angsty perfection but please for the love of all that's holy, please don't expect this to be exactly like the Pack Darling duet. This is a totally different book with a different cast of characters and expecting them to have the same song and dance as its predecessors is going to do it a disservice.

Are there cameos from the Wyvern pack that made my heart so fucking full? Yes. Is the vibe like the duet? No. And that's OKAY.

I really enjoyed the personality the author injects with their word choices, the plot, pacing, and the story overall! My main critique is that the guys sound very similar. If you were to give me one of the guys' POV chapters and omit the names, I cannot guarantee that I'd be able to tell them apart. Also didn't love that Serafina took the guys' opportunity at revenge away from them.

Overall, I loved this so freaking much. I don't have anything else to add at this point. It was the perfect book for me at the perfect time and I cannot wait for another book by Lola!!

1.5-2?

Sounds like I’m in agreement with several other people in that I read the first two books of this series and liked them so I was excited for the next installment. Unfortunately for me, I wasn’t in love with this plot or the characters.

I will say I thought the plot point idea of our MC pretending to be a boy during childhood and disappearing was interesting and I wish that dynamic had been explored further.

The book spent a bunch of time focused on this “new” twist to “normal” ABO dynamics: “the gamma” and their magical powers?…but instead of introducing a gamma (without powers) to pack dynamics and exploring that concept the plot went down a government-conspiracy-experimentation-and-mafia-type-gangs route that didn’t leave much room for the ABO plot I was assuming would happen. And when our MC finally did start interacting with the pack it was primarily short one-on-one interactions, with hardly any tangible character/relationship growth. And then the last almost 100 pages of the book was one entirely (in my opinion) cringy sex scene with one man describing cum as “baby batter”, another reduced to “yodeling” and our MC being driven as wild as “shit-flinging monkeys” (all direct quotes from the text). I was not a fan.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I’m really sad that I didn’t enjoy this considering how much I absolutely loved the original duology. I couldn’t connect with any of these characters in comparison to Lilah and her pack. The story also had so much potential but fell flat. A miss for me. :(

Oy.
Way more mm than my liking.
Didn't feel like romance again. I think this author would excel at action or suspense but the romance is lacking 3 for 3 books.

I really wanted to like this book. I LOVED the Wyverin story so I had high hopes. Waiting for this book took long, so the hopes were higher still. I’m left disappointed. I skimmed through the second half of the book and I can honestly say I didn’t miss anything interesting or important for the story.

I really like the idea of the book. The gamma’s are a great addition and the whole weapon-being-captive thing was a great way to make the book interesting.

I didn’t like the enormous amount of inner dialogue, scent-lusting- and personality repetition. It was very telling and little show. I don’t think I really got to know the guys and there wasn’t really a new bond established after they met. It was like MATE. WANT. And then trusting on the way they bonded in their past. But… Sol was right — they weren’t the same. We got to know them through inner dialogue and thoughts that were written out, not because the guys and Sol really talked.
I didn’t really like the “I’m not your mate” that was repeated ENDLESSLY. That whole part was like one big miscommunication-plot. Honestly, even if Sol was scared for the monster in her, she kept holding on to that miscommunication because she was convinced they wanted her sister. I think the guys were really open about how the Sol from their past already had a pack-role in their life, even IF her sister would be their mate — why couldn’t she be too? I get that she didn’t want to be rejected based on her previous experiences, but she has little empathy for the mates she keeps rejecting. I think that whole repetition of rejection, and the way she kept injecting the pheromones etc., was what really bored me in the end. The book could’ve been faster-paced and more interesting if there was more attention for their ‘our-lifes-are-in-danger’-problems than their relationship shit.
The last part of the book is sex. Sex, sex, sex. Don’t get me wrong, i love reading a good sexscene or ten, but this was just … too much and frankly, I was not invested because I didn’t feel their emotional investment in each other. It didn’t turn me on, I kept skimming the pages and really just wanted to be done with the book.

It breaks my heart because I really did love the Wyverin stuff. That made me cry my eye balls out and swoon in a puddle of goo.

So I love this series and I liked this story but I didn’t love it. It was pretty long and I felt it could have been a little shorter.

The plot was good but idk there was something missing I think.

Anyway. I loved the first two books so much and go back and reread them sometimes.

This one just didn’t hit the spot quite like I thought it would but it was still ok

Lola Rock is a writing All-Star!

I loved this so much!!!
Lola's writing style is hard to explain, she makes a lot of similes and comparisons that are like fun word sprinkles dotted throughout the story.

After reading the first two pack darling books I was expecting a dark, bully, tear my heart into tiny blood-soaked pieces, omegaverse and it was all those things but this time around the bullies were not the FMCs Alphas, and no groveling was needed only unmarked graves.

This story could have been considered medium to slow burn if not for the MM scenes, the group love doesn't really start until the end of the book and then the last 10% of the storyline turns into one long heat scene. Steam wise this book didn't do it for me. The entertainment factor was there but the foreplay was not.

Our FMC Sol is the long-lost OCC friend of Lilah Darling/Wyvern, FMC from book 1. If you're wondering will Pack Wyvern make an appearance in this story well... But before we have fun with interconnected book stories we have to let this one stand up using its own spine.

Spoilers consist of mostly backstory information and stuff from the first 20% of the book...

Okay, that's enough spoilers. If you're wondering whether or not the guys recognized her and treated her like a Queen all I will say is that the bad guys in this story are never her mate pack!

It's an excellent read, I didn't enjoy the smut this time around but the story was intense and I couldn't put it down!

Eh read for me

I absolutely love Lola Rock, but this book was not like Pack Darling. The writing was considerably different. There were a lot of places I was like “What?” I’m assuming it was humor but it made no sense. Something about the story line just couldn’t keep my interest. It took me 3 days to read this book when I completed the Pack Darling Duet in a day and a half. The characters were good, I wasn’t terribly impressed with Dutch, I like a good cinnamon roll Alpha but this guy seemed to be more of a child than an actual adult. It was a definite turn off. But not a horrible read.

I don't even know where to start. I laughed, swooned, squealed, cried, sweat. It was so GOOD being lost in Lola's words again and my heart is so full.
Thank you so much for doing what you do Lola. I can't wait for the next thing from your exquisite brain!

Okay the first thing that I want to say is that ever since I read pack darling, specifically part one, that has been my favorite omegaverse. I didn't think anyone would give me the same feels but this one did and my heart is happy 🥹

My favorite part of all of these books are always the characters. They feel real. They're dynamic, relatable, and just really lovable. Everyone is super unhinged but we love that for them 😅. I don't really think that I could pick a favorite because each one has their own unique charm that checks a box for me.

The plot is wild I'm not gonna lie and I ate it up. It's so much different than other books I've read, switching it up and keeping it fresh in a way that it's never boring. Unrealistic and a bit crazy in some places? Absolutely. But never boring 😂

I wish there was more of the actual romance and spicy bits, though. It felt like that part of it was over before it even began which is kind of a bummer.

It has a couple problems yeah but I can't give it anything less than five stars. The vibes were vibing and I had a great time reading it.

I was looking forward to read Mari's story. We did a buddy read with the #cakeeaters.

Let me start with the fact that I'm not a big fan of omegaverse. I read the first book and finished it. The second I never finished. But then everybody gushed about Pack Darling and I decided to read the first book. I was really hooked on Lilah's story and read both books. That said I was very happy that Mari's story was released. I loved this book very much. But let's start with what I didn't like:
I didn't like that there wasn't one scene where Mari and Lilah bond. And I would have liked it very much, those too doing some girl talk and the group of alphas also have some bonding time. That said I know this is only because I love Lilah and the Wyvern so much. And an author can't keep spinning stories when the main story was sorted out. 😉

But besides this, I love Lola's book, because in her Universe things are different. An Omega, who does everything to not go into heat. Or here an omega who is also a gamma and not really behaving like an omega. I like this take. I like that the FMC is strong and can hold her own. But she needed her boy back in her life. The Meadows Alphas are so different from the Wyvern but they also have things in common and I like it very much.

I hope Lola will have a lot of bestseller books in the future and I'm looking forward, what story will be next.

Excellent concept, missed opportunity

⚜Genre: OmegaVerse Fantasy
⚜Theme: RH Romantacy
⚜Targeted audience: Adult
⚜Characters: Alphas, Gammas, Omegas, Betas
⚜Representation: Bi couples
⚜Pace: Medium
⚜TW: a lot! A whole fucking lot! violence- rape - kidnapping- manipulation- murder - explicit content
⚜ tropes: insta-love, fated mates, childhood friends to lovers, hidden identity, fake dating
⚜ POV: multiple first person
⚜ spice 🌶🌶🌶 with kinks
⚜ rating: 3.75🌟🌟🌟 🔅
⚜standalone: yes, but it is part of Pack Darling universe
⚜Ending: HEA

The plotline of this OmegaVerse - well Gammaverse - was quite amazing and original.
Introducing a Gamma - not quite an Omega, Beta or Alpha but a mixture, with powers.

Sol, forced to mate bond with a vile pack develops an unexpected lethal power. She is kidnappened because of that by the SAS organisation and tested on then used as a weapon.
When she is forced to pose as her sister, she reunites with his childhood friends, now a pack and Alphas.

The book hints on serious subject which is surviving trauma and accepting love for oneslef and from others.

However, it really stretched this subject to point of boredom.
She thinks she's broken...we get it...how many times we need to read about that chapter after chapter.
They will do anything to keep here....ok....they keep saying it without showing enough

I wished we've seen more of their past relationship to understand their present connection.
If perhaps we've seen them facing the SAS more, instead on internal monologuing that makes you skip the pages, this would have been remarkable.
Some characters did not develope well enought while others took more page time.

But all in all this was an enjoyable read

The author has a way of gripping the characters and storyline, yet teasing you with the possibilities...with that said, this book definitely took a turn in the omega world, bringing in the gammas, which was pretty cool. The really spicy stuff happens towards the end of each book and though I will read more in the series, I did get frustrated in each book with the drawn out way the author keeps the FMC out of the packs and stuck in her head a lot.

I was hyped up after revisiting Pack Darling on audio this time. At the time I think I was expecting too much. For the majority I was disappointed. Marisol's situation was dark, but suddenly there was Gammas with special abilities and after Lilah it was a little too WTF for me. My first thought was I'm glad this wasn't on audio. The guys were okay but pretty damaged. Reese, Jin, Bishop and Dutch, with Dutch being OTT. I went into this one too quickly. I took a break when they found out her secret and didn't pick it up again for a while.

Picked it up again and couldn't remember most of what had happened in the first part or who the characters were. It was all devoted guys and Marisol's walls crumbling. It was sweet. Jin was level headed, Reese was fun, Bishop was grounding and Dutch was Dutch. Up until the end when all is said and done, it's pretty much Dutch getting the action strong on the MM. Add in the Wyverns for a rescue and recruitment mission and it all went together again and felt like a Pack Darling story. I liked that Marisol could handle her own. Curious about Serafina. Should've waited a bit until going into this one. I'll give it another go when audio is available.

It hurts to not vote this book as high as the previous ones. But it is what it is. This was not on par with Pack Darling

Had this book been shorter, I’d have found it better because in the middle it felt too stretched when there was miscommunication and secrets between our leads. All that could have been cleared away quickly, also some drama revolving the mission could have been shortened. Basically, the extra length was my major gripe with this book. There are a few others but this was the biggest one.

This time the lead is Lilah's long-lost friend Marisol. She is not an omega as Lilah had thought, she’s a gamma. They come with deadly powers like toxic pheromones and mind control and other stuff. It varies from person to person. Marisol has been kept a secret by the government and they are doing tests on her to make her a beneficial weapon while avoiding unleashing her to the civilians. Marisol has been through a lot of trauma with some other alphas, her time in OCC and now with the military. Her early childhood was better because of her friendship with the male leads when they grew up together.

The guys are Bishop, Dutch, Reese and Jin. These are not all fighter guys like the previous set, but they trained with the Wyvern pack for a while. Jin is the lead and he has ties with the mafia.

The plot moves with Marisol made to take the place of her look-alike sister Serafina who is the daughter of a mafia guy. The guys abduct her and find her to actually be their missing old friend. Thus goes their journey of bringing her to a safe and comfortable place while she struggles with her supposed biological toxicity.

Marisol is a tough character like Lilah and more so. She does not have the inherent softness of Lilah but she is likeable in her strength and protectiveness for her alphas.

I mostly like all the guys except Dutch. He was like an overly clinging giant bear who’s more animal than human even in normal setting. This was supposed to make him lovable but it made him downright annoying. Imagine Finn dialed up in his possessiveness but also lacking his humour and edge. We get a disturbingly gooey mess that I won’t want to touch.

Others were better. Reeses was a good cinnamon roll. Jin was the tough one with softness only for his pack. Bishop was good at first in his nitpicky pristine personality, but he lost his charm later.

So yeah, not as good as the previous ones these guys. Not as fun. Marisol too lost me after a while with her secrets and denials. I was longing for the effortless bond seen with the Wyverns.

🥲 So good I cried

Crying is a first in a very, long time. The end of this book really grabbed me. Marisol deserves such happiness after what she went through. This book has courage galore and not as much blood/violence as the previous duet but definitely as much steam 🥵 I am going to have a book hangover now. Worth the time to read and money to purchase. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥/5
