Mick is my fiercest protector. He will stop at nothing to slay my insecurities and safeguard me from his fame and the sharp edges of his past.
But he refuses to face his own demons.
Instead, he shields me from the ugliness when all I see is the beauty in him.
Proving I will walk through his darkness tests me in ways I never imagined. It exposes our relationship and my hard-won progress to overzealous paparazzi, the scrutiny of social media, and worse—vindictive enemies that lurk in the shadows.
Now we must face our greatest battle. To fight like hell for each other or let those who want to come between us tear us apart. This time…for good.
A Naked Beauty is the riveting conclusion to Fat Girl but can also be read as a stand-alone.
I write diverse, body positive romance because ALL women deserve a sexy love story.
As a recovering yo-yo dieter who has struggled with body image, I channeled those experiences into my debut novel, Fat Girl, and its conclusion, A Naked Beauty. Sadly, I think most women, regardless of their weight or size, can identify with some aspect of body insecurity and self-doubt. I am inspired by the theme of loving yourself and discovering your own intrinsic worth. I want to bring my readers stories that are real, relatable, and entertaining—where strong characters with tough battles and troubled pasts tug at your heartstrings, turn you on, and have you cheering for a beautiful, forever love.
Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, I’m now a proud adopted Canuck, living in Calgary, Alberta, with my husband and daughter. The winters are frigid, but the sun shines 335 days of the year. Tanning in a parka—it happens! Most nights, you will find me in my home office, or on those cold nights, in front of the fireplace, tapping out the many stories in my head.
I liken writing a great romance to a box of Godiva. Decadent and delicious! You can’t stop at just one. xo
For how long it was, I was expecting a little bit more.
Especially when the plots in the first book finally got resolved then we had a whole 60 or so pages and I’m like, what’s left to talk about?
My only con is I hate it when we have the bowtie HEA! All of fared dreams of a future and family come true I just don’t really like that, especially since they geared us up to her situation when it comes to having a family.
Otherwise, this was good. I wish there is more descriptive spice but glad I finished it.
I absolutely loved this series! I related to Dee on so many levels as she struggled with self-doubt, anxiety, weight insecurities, and her relationship with food. The character development was top-notch, and I loved watching Dee and Mich grow together. They faced their trauma and shared their stories with sincerity and kindness. While I didn’t always agree with their decisions, I’m thrilled they found each other again and got their happy ending.
Dee and Mick are finally back together after being separated since they were teenagers. But rekindling their relationship was just they start. Having to deal with their past mistakes and a world of trauma, along with Dee's insecurities and Mick's life in the spotlight, they still have alot to work through.
But Mick is her protector, he fights for her to have a quite happy life with him, doing whatever to keep her safe.
But life happens and the paparazzi is relentless. Dee has to prove that she loves herself enough, loves Mick enough to push through the darkness that threatens to overcome her life.
Dee and Mick need to prove to each other that they won't let anyone come between them again.
My thoughts: I really enjoyed this read. It's the second book in the series and I haven't read the first, although it's a stand alone, I'd still suggest reading the first because I feel like there is so much history to understand before we move to their actual relationship. It was a very sweet book. Mick is a wonderful person and Dee is so relatable. She's overweight and struggles accepting herself and I feel like her journey accepting Mick's love is one many women go through. It had a beautiful meaning and I would definitely recommend it 🖤
This was a great book. If you liked Fat Girl, you will love A Naked Beauty. In A Naked Beauty, Carron laid bare the intimate lives of two characters, Dee and Mick, whose lives had been damaged by their painful early childhoods of parental neglect, rejection, and secrets that was further complicated by their own failed attempt to trust and love each other during their earlier teen years. In this sequel to Fat Girl, Carron exposed the effects of decades worth of unspoken pain and secrets coupled with Dee and Mick’s search for body positivity and self-acceptance. Carron’s passionate opening sex scene is delivered. It was compelling; It hooked the reader and left one asking for more. Also, the author accomplished the difficult task of timely integrating the backstory of Fat Girl throughout the narrative whereas it was not a prerequisite to have read Fat Girl to enjoy A Naked Beauty. This was no small feat. Kudos to Carron for this. In depicting the complex relationship between Dee and Mick their multidimensional characters were well developed, coming across as genuine and endearing. Carron was masterful at bringing characters to life in descriptions, emotions, vulnerabilities, and their flaws, using descriptions for Dee such as golden eyes, breast were ripe and round, topped with hard chocolate centers, and thick thighs and bubble butt. The author brought Mick to life with his toasted caramel skin, tattooed right bicep, large, lean, broad defined shoulder with sculptured chest and whiskered cheeks. Correspondingly, Carron made these characters real and relatable by skillfully portraying vulnerabilities and flaws that were so deeply instilled by childhood pain and rejection. It was intriguing to follow the plot and the characters’ struggles as they sought to free themselves from the all-encompassing barriers that they had created to protect themselves, survive, obtain professional success, and ultimately find self-love and acceptance. The dialogue was especially strong and forceful in the middle and later chapters which advanced the story and engaged the reader with action. It could have been interesting to have structured more of the action earlier in the story. Dee’s conversations and handling of Dwayde’s lawyer, his mother, and approach to handling Malcolm highlighted her brilliance and competency as an attorney but were somewhat overshadowed by the erotic sex scenes. A Naked Beauty was as much about Mick as it was about Dee. Thus, it was easy to conclude the title could have been Naked Beauties as they both bared their bodies and souls to each other and their family. While Dee battled with self-acceptance, Mick bared himself of long-held secrets and his feelings of inadequacy for being unable to protect his mother.
Content: weight worrying, mental health, dealing with loss, insecurity, anxious, fear, reference to an eating disorder, abuse
The second chance at love brings old and new problems to the surface.
A Naked Beauty by Leigh Carron is the second in the Perfectly Imperfect Series and was an intense mix of love, loss, and overcoming obstacles. The story picks up with Dee and Mick finally getting together and fully embracing one another. Along with their second chance at love, they are forced to deal with the reality of Mick being a celebrity and both having troubled pasts that they’d rather not share with the world. Will their love persevere or will it melt away as it did many years ago?
I enjoyed this story overall. I am definitely going to go back and read the first and probably do a second round read with this, to get the full experience of it. From the start, I was pulled in by some steamy action. The fact that the couple had so much trauma behind them enhanced the story and was represented very well in their present life experiences. Every action and reaction they had, sourced from their childhoods. It was excellent. I liked that it was also a pretty complicated familial dynamic in the mix. The combination of dealing with loss, renewing the relationship, and also dealing with the consequences of fame was beautifully explored.
Due to reading the second novel first, I was a bit confused for a while. There were a lot of inner thoughts and references to the previous occurrences. So, it took a bit longer to catch up with what was happening. I appreciated the backstory sprinkled in, but in the beginning, it became a bit prolonged and it took a while for the story to really gain traction. It is mentioned that this series can be read out of order, but I’d highly recommend reading it in the proper order. It will flow much easier.
If you love a great second chance romance with some body positivity in the mix, this is for you! As long as you don’t mind steam, you will love this!

*This was an honest review for a complimentary copy of A Naked Beauty from Leigh Carron via RMWBooks
There is so much to love about this book and the way it lays relatable every-day insecurities so bare. Our female main character, Dee, is a curvaceous beauty with body image issues. And Micah, our gorgeous MMC, carries a lot of painful self-doubt from his childhood. Through the course of this book we get to see both Dee and Micah shed those insecurities through the love and compassion they show each other.
As a woman with my own insecurities I can relate to how Dee saw herself at the start of this book. I think at some point every woman I know wished a part of her body looked different. Dee learning to love her body is part of what makes this book so powerful. Micah had me completely falling for him when he thought: “Dee is beautiful to me. I couldn’t care less how much she weighs. I love her round curves. Love that she’s warm and soft. Love the way she feels beneath me. I love her for many reasons other than just her body.” Yes Micah! I wished we had more men like him in this world.
A Naked Beauty is the conclusion to Carron’s book “Fat Girl” but I read it as a stand alone. Carron does a phenomenal job of dispersing all of the information you need to know in a way that feels like a genuine part of the current story. At no point did I think: “ah, here’s where we recap the first book”. There are spoilers in this book so if you plan to read it I would highly recommend starting with Fat girl because you’re going to love it and wish you had!
Read it if you like: body positivity and self-love, lots of steam, second chance romance, hidden threats, brother’s best friend
Tropes: Second chance, brother’s best friend, found family, romantic drama featuring a plus size FMC ******************** Triggers: Child abuse & neglect, alcoholism, Parental abandonment, fatphobia, negative self image, binge eating, purging, graphic sex and violence ******************** Quote: “We have stripped away the layers to expose the raw. Bared ourselves. Our hearts. Our souls. Our very essence. There are no secrets between us, only honesty and acceptance. And in those, we found the infinite beauty of what it means to be loved naked.” ******************** I’m not sure if this story required two rather lengthy books to be told, but here we are. I appreciate an author who is thorough and expands a story beyond a simple overview. However, unlike in book one of this duo, Carron included so much detail I had to fight to stay in the story. And the spicy scenes! Wow, they were numerous. Still, I’m glad to see that the sub plots including Dwayde, O’Malley, and Malcom were all resolved. The author handled a lot of sensitive topics with care and vulnerability. Watching Mick and Dee complete their arcs is the anchor that kept me in when the over-detailed narrative tried to push me out. The characters felt so very realistic, I had to remind myself they weren’t. This duo is going to stay with me for a long time. I plan on reading others in the same series, but only after a break. I need something light to counteract the deep and heavy.
Movie rating is R, cover ratings-cartoon discrete 5/5, male model 3/5. Overall 4/5, romance 4/5, violence 4/5, and spice is 4/5. I recommend.
Stories like this are such trying and difficult reads that initially you wanna rate them lower because they make you work for the HEA, but that would be a complete falsehood. What is true is that books that give us either the grit or the glory is where most of us feel comfortable. We don’t mind reading the painful harsh details, or the ones that skim over everything and get straight to the happily ever after.’ It’s stories like this where you have to walk through human fallibility and imperfections and take the journey to healing, that are so difficult to read. This book was so raw that it invoked physical responses from me. The secrets made my anxiety rampant. The shame and guilt that caused Micah to listen by not hear and hide made my chest tight. The insecurities and self deprecation made my stomach hurt. When they were having smex instead of communicating it invoked annoyance not arousal. Which are all signs of powerful and amazing writing. This duet was full of amazing lessons and I’m glad I pushed myself to finish it.
This second book was just as good as the first. One thing I love about this book was how it shine a different light on foster children. In most scenarios we see children treated bad by their foster parents but this wasn’t the case with Mama T and her late husband. They accepted Dee as one of their own and even though Mick wasn’t a foster child they take care of him like one of their own. The love and care this family have for one another was beautiful to watch.
I loved how Dee came to accept the things she didn’t love about herself. How being “Skinny” “thin” does equal being beautiful. As much as Mick loved everything about her and always reassured her, she had to learn to love herself for herself.
Mick had his own childhood trauma and struggles too. We see him over come trying to fix everything because he thought he “owe” his family for taking care of him.
Dee and Mick got their second chance in everything and I couldn’t be more happier for them. And his dad? He got what he deserved
This was my favorite book out of the series. It dealt with issues of body positivity and self-are. I did think that Dee's constant worry over her relationship with food was a little over the top because it was so prevalent. Then I realized it was okay because we got to glimpse her when she went overboard with food and eating. Just goes to show that we all deal with our issues differently. At first glance, Mick seems to have his stuff together (if that is even possible). Then it comes to light he dealt with severe abuse from his father. This explains his being overprotective of Dee, because he couldn't save his mom who was actually saving him by taking beatings so he wouldn't have to. His overprotectiveness became a problem for this relationship because he didn't know how to share and communicate his actions or the reason behind his actions. I won't give away anymore of the story. I will say, this was a wonderful read, especially for those of us who deal with body issues.
4.5 stars, 4 steamy kisses Book #2 in the Perfectly Imperfect duet check trigger warnings **though a standalone I highly recommend reading book #1
second chances, second chance romance, fame, self-love, curvy heroine, protective alpha hero, drama, contemporary romance, book series, dual pov, troubled pasts, body positivity, character growth, friendships, family found, self-acceptance, steamy
I really enjoyed the book because it had a good mix of dialogue, plot, and flawed characters that grew as the story progressed. The steamy moments helped in adding to the passionate love shared but also in establishing self-love and acceptance that was as physically and emotionally beautiful to read about. Will have to read book #1 as for me some insights from book 1 got me just a bit confused but not enough to disrupt my reading. I also can't wait to continue the series.
This is the second part of Fat Girl, Dee and Mick’s story. It’s the evolution of their relationship and how they grow together. It addresses all of the challenges they had in the first book - Dee’s challenges with her body, Mick’s issue with his father and the domestic abuse he experienced, the confrontations with the press with their relationship.
The book is about growth, the love of family, and the willingness to protect your loved ones at any cost. My only challenge was the Dee and Mick used sex as a crutch to avoid talking to each other for too long in their relationship. Otherwise, I loved their story and the substories of their family and friends.
I highly recommend this 2 book series. It makes you think, cry, laugh and examine some of your own ideas about your body, love and family. Read this on Kindle Unlimited.
On every end in every chapter; coitus. You couldn't write a story you wrote about coitus. I got sick of the lead characters. You repeated some of the stuff that was in the first book. I guess you had a lot of words rattling around in your head being in lockdown. After 410 pages of saying nothing but about coitus, you didn't end the book. Everything they said and did was about coitus. I love the progression of their mental health. Why couldn't you show us that they had bested O'Malley? I was glad about the outcome of the court case. I liked this book well enough, I skipped a lot of the repetitious coitus scenes. It took to long to get to the meat of the story..
This story certainly starts off with a bang! Straight to the fire! I will say that I HIGHLY recommend that you read Fat Girl first. That is the start of Mick and Dee’s love story. I feel like it is crucial to get the full experience of the story. There was nothing easy for Mick and Dee except for their love for each other. They had to decide if that was enough. One thing after another tried to tear them apart. I will say it is a very long book so be prepared to invest some time. I think there were some things that could have been taken out and still made the story interesting but over all it was a good read.
This was a really good book that deals with everyday insecurities that women face, me being one of them. It was well written and made the book very enjoyable. Dee is a curvy woman who struggles with body issues. I found Dee to be a very relatable character, and it made me lover her that much more. Mick also has things that are from is past that he struggles with. But he doesn't let that stop him from being a beautiful soul. Even with everything from his past, he is absolutely amazing with Dee and the love they have for one another, not to mention the love and relationship they continue to build throughout the book. It's everything and more, and I loved that. A Naked Beauty is book two in the Perfectly Imperfect duet, with Fat Girl being book one. I would definitely encourage you to read Fat Girl first, because this book has some spoilers for what happens in that book. Make sure you check out this wonderful duet today.
This book addressed so many that aren't usually addressed in steamy romance novels, I was here for it.
It represented body positivity, mental health, insecurity, dealing with loss, anxiety and abuse. The main character Dee was super relatable and loved, and Micah was just as loved, he was supportive and great!
I loved the steaminess, the hidden threats, the response to weight worrying, the BANG start.
There was referring to eating disorder that was in the past, but the reading was fun, and super loved on my end!
Thank you to @katieandbreypa and @leighcarronauthor for providing me with a copy for reviewing!
Reading Micks fear based symptoms being compared to and made worse than her clinical symptoms was pretty difficult. Dee's therapist is very Patriarchal in her treatment. She treats Dee like her symptoms are manifestations of PTSD when they are not, they are manifestations of long term neglect and CPTSD. She wasn't "scared to let" the adults live her, THEY FAILED to teach her, thats called neglect. And thats the adults job, never the kids. Sad story of letting adults and men off the hook. Shes literally justifying him cheating on her. Its so so so so so infantilisjng and dehumanising forcing a character to internalise how others chose to treat her.
Riveting! From the moment I picked up the book, I was immersed in Dee and Mick's journey and could not put it down. Leigh Carron draws in her readers and literally makes you feel the characters' joys and disappointments. Dee's insecurities, fears, aspirations, and ultimately her strength of character to triumph over it all are so relatable as a woman. Together Mick and Dee show the power of loving oneself while they build their love for each other and embark on what is a very sensual journey...Grab the book, I promise you won't be able to put it down!
I have so waited for this book and oh boy, did it deliver! I sometimes was so afraid of what I feared might happen, that I needed to take a break to steel myself because I was so very invested, I loved all the characters in it and I am so very happy there will be a book about the pair I am very excited about (and I am quite sure the one I wish a happier ending lateron). And the message about self-love and body positivity was so strong and so well delivered, I just gobbled it up! Thanks for writing again, Ms Carron!
Dee and Mick define what it means to grow together! The authors use of duel POV allowed you to feel the deep seated pain of being stripped bare before the one you desire most! Ms.Carron did a beautiful job showing the raw pain that comes with healing. Her writing flowed beautifully helping to draw me further into the story. The spice comes in hot and early! I have not read the first novel yet, and while I don’t feel like I missed out on context I want to go back and watch the sparks that lead to chapter one!! Excited to catch up before the next installment!!!
I really liked this book. Having body issues and overcoming them for the most part but not completely made this book believable. I liked that Dee didn't lose weight to get more confident, or to finally feel beautiful. I also loved how much Micah loved Dee, and he let her know it often. This book had a lot of storylines, but it didn't feel like it was too much. I would recommend this book, and I'm looking forward to the next in the series with some of the side characters.
The authors writing is amazing! The story keeps you entertained, shocked, laughing, ready to jump in the book to smack a character and fanning yourself from the steamy scenes. Dee and Mick story is like a rollercoaster ride! Full of ups and downs, turns, drops and excitement. Dee is an amazing character and her story is one every reader needs to read. It may be fiction but parts of her story will resonate with everyone. You’ll be up late because the surprises never stop! And the chemistry between these two is off the charts.
I recommend this book and the previous one Fat Girl to anyone who struggled with body shaming or childhood trauma from family members into adulthood These stories will give you hope and inspiration that you can overcome I shed a few tears of sadness and happiness throughout the story The characters were so relatable and amazing with their struggles and strength The family love support and loyalty showed out and gave the hope we all need when in a dark place Kudos to Ms Carron for writing a beautiful story that I will remember long after I read the last word
Dee and Mick continue to face the demons from their pasts as they trudge into their future. The case that she is working on for her brother brings up harsh memories for Dee and for Mick. Danger, lies, secrets and stubbornness all take a toll on the relationship between Dee, Mick and their family. The emotional turmoil that this author weaves throughout the story helps to make the characters believable and relatable. Good read. I would like to read more about these characters!
This is part two of the duet and I really enjoyed it! The first book ended on a 'happily every after for now' and still had a few loose end to tie up and they did in this book! The MMC is afraid to lose Dee, our FMC, and just wants to protect her which unfortunately leads him to not telling her everything as he believes it is to protect her. Which of course is not the right thing to do and our FMC, Dee, is not happy finding out he is hiding stuff from her. This book does conclude their story and it does end on a happily ever after! Overall, I really enjoyed it!
I really enjoyed A Naked Beauty. The dual POV story flows nicely, has great character development, and a nice, solid plot. I loved Dee and Mick, and was instantly enamored with their story. I have not read Fat Girl, but I am excited to check that one out as well. I will also say that for not reading the first book, I didn't feel lost like you can get at times. Overall, a great read from a new to me author.
This. Book. Was. Amazing. And better than I expected! I knew jumping into Book #2 in this series that I was in for some spice. This was one of the spiciest books I have read. If you're into that, I 5/5 recommend it. This book takes us through the story of a lost young adult romance rekindled several years into the future. This story takes you through Dee & Mick's relationship, evolving with serious situations. Problems from Mick's past come back to haunt him, and Dee struggles with body image issues. Both come from not the greatest childhoods, but they certainly persevered. <3
📚ARC Review📚 I really enjoyed this book! It was such a beautiful, steamy romance. Dee and Mick had such a loving relationship. My only problem was that I didn’t get the chance to read the first book in this series. I’m going to have to check it out.
Overall, a very enjoyable read. I also related well with Dee, especially with her body image issues. I’ve always had problems with my body as well. It was really refreshing to read a romance about a plus size girl. Don’t get to see that often.
