The best way to ruin a rogue slayer's day? Force an arranged marriage on her.
Despite being the best of the best, my parents–who run our region's slayer council–decide it's time for me to get married. Apparently, being the wife of a high-born slayer will finally make me respectable. Or so they say. I see the arrangement for what it really a power grab.
They don't care about my happiness, and they certainly don't care about the strange demons I've encountered. No matter how much I try to tell them how dangerous the beings are, no one listens.
They never do.
Now I'm stuck with an infuriating man who's no happier about this arrangement than I am, though he insists we go through with it. Trying to get rid of him while eradicating these new nightmarish demons won't be easy. Throw in a sweet shifter who claims I'm his fated mate and a handsome fae stalker, and I might just lose it.
I always wished for a new family, but this isn’t exactly what I had in mind.
How am I supposed to juggle three men and save the world? I guess we'll find out…
This is the boxset of the To Kill a Nightmare series which includes all three books and a bonus epilogue. This series is a why-choose romance with laugh out loud moments, spice, and general chaos.
This series took me a while to get through. It was cute and I did enjoy the banter between all the characters. More than anything the end makes all the slow parts worth it as Greer’s mom is taken down a million pegs where she belongs. The guys felt very average and Bastian was the only one I took a liking to. Parts of the story were kinda crazy, particularly these physical being nightmares taking on the visage of your biggest fears. Reminds me of Harry Potter actually lol. The whole world they live in is a bit odd too given the magic side of their lives is hidden from humans also very much like HP. However there were some unique bits on the authors part especially the reveal of the very dangerous faerie realm. Fun read and I’m glad things worked out as they did in the end.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
From the very start this book is as action packed as you expect it to be. I especially really loved how we soon found out that all the action and the mysterious monsters we were meeting are part of a bigger storyline. I did like the heroine's development throughout the story and how she was slowly opening up a little, trusting the guys more and more. There are also no loose ends, that are no unanswered questions and when I finished the book I was really satisfied because everything in this book worked. I'm sure this series is gonna be a big hit now it's finished and people can binge read it!
To Kill a Nightmare is the complete boxed set that includes all three books (Shadow Slayer, Twilight Terrors, & Midnight Monsters) PLUS a bonus epilogue.
Both Harper Frey and Rory Miles did a Kicka$$ job with this series and definitely kept me on my toes throughout this whole collection. Fantastic character development and epic worldbuilding, what more can you ask for??? THIS IS DEFINITELY A MUST READ!!!
What an amazing 5 star series! I’ve honestly loved this series and these characters.
Shadow Slayer (book 1) 5 stars!
What an amazing read! It’s fast paced with lots of action and some steam. Amazing characters and an amazing plot, Greer is the best slayer around, but despite this her parents still don’t like her and don’t listen to her. So they force her into a marriage with Valen another slayer. As well as this she has Dane a bear shifter for a mate! And then their is Bastian the fae. The 4 of them are trying to destroy a type of demon that they have never seen before and they are proving hard to get rid of. Dane is definitely my favourite guy, he really is a big teddy bear. I do love Greer as an FMC she’s strong and takes no crap but also has a vulnerable side.
I think this is the first book I’ve read where a side character is my favourite character, this being Rippley you just can’t help but laugh at her but also feel sorry for her. So I’m hoping that she stays apart of the story. The ending definitely leaves you needing the next book ASAP!
Twilight Terrors (book 2) 5 stars I absolutely loved this book, it’s just as good if not better than the first book. After the first book I was eager for this one. Greer is still her amazing strong badass self but this book she opens up abit more. But God do I hate Greers mom but thankfully she now has her guys. With that ending I cannot wait for the next book!
Midnight Monsters (book 3) 5 stars! Oh my god so many emotions!! I have to admit I cried multiple times whilst reading this book. But with that ending it was so worth it. This is the final book of the series and it had such an amazing ending. I’m actually going to miss these characters and not just the main characters, characters like Rippley, Crash, Madi, Lucy etc too.
Shadow Slayer Wow. That was one heck of a wild ride. And that ending makes me desperately curious to know what’s going to happen next. (And what’s really going on.) I’m pretty sure I’ve gone and fallen in love with these characters. They’re complex, unique, and freaking hilarious. There’s more than one perfect one-liner that I will be cherishing from this text. I NEED to read book two and I NEED to read it NOW! Twilight Terrors I loved the first book. Somehow, the authors have made me love this one even more. It’s filled with intrigue, machinations, and double-crosses around every corner. Greer is frantically chasing down answers to what’s going on, but the enemies closest to her will do anything to thwart her and make sure their plans succeed. Also of note, the cliff-hanger at the end is steep, and even though I was sure it was coming, it still caught me off guard and left me howling in frustration. “You can’t leave me there!” In other words, I’m more than a little desperate to read what happens next. Midnight Monsters Wow. I almost feel like that’s all I can say that won’t give away the best parts of the book. FYI, there isn’t a bad part in this book. This was the perfect ending to the series. Greer is finally able to embrace her personal power and become the Slayer she was born to be. But, more importantly, she’s able to accept the love of her new found family and become the center of their unit they need her to be. I don’t know if there’s more planned for this world in the future, but I kinda hope so. I’m not ready to let these characters go and I would kill for some cameo appearances in any books to come after this. I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author.
I hope you're ready to be slayed because this series will do exactly that! The slayers are coming! Meet Greer! A kick-butt slayer who is at the top of the heap! She's the best of the best. Too bad she doesn't get the recognition or the appreciation that she deserves. So what is her response to that? Well, to give her parents grief every chance that she gets. LOL! I mean, why give them your best when they treat you like you're the biggest mistake of their lives? Mom is the worst offender, while dad is just plain spineless. Well, turns out mommy dearest plans on pawning Greer off onto another slayer, but Greer isn't the only one getting used as a pawn in a power play. Cue chaos and romance in 3...2...1...and go! New characters getting introduced and the series is off to the races! Now! I'm not a total fan of Greer's attitude. I get it...to an extent, but Valen doesn't deserve all the mess that he gets, especially from her. If she simply took time to, oh I don't know, as a question or two, she might have learned a few things before jumping off the cliff called "conclusions." This series is packed with twists, turns, drama, steamy romance and moments of where you're going to want to jump in there and kick some butt, too! All in all, a great series and one worth reading. 4.5 out of 5 stars
Great story full of twisty turns, action and steam!!
I LOVE Greer!! She's fierce! With the life she's had, she's had not choice but to be strong. And as much as I love a tough FMC, I love it even more when the MC's show her it's ok to be vulnerable sometimes and be protected. I love the "touch her and die" vibe. Dane, Valen and Bash are all of that! They know how strong Greer is, but also know about everything she's had to endure with her momster. They will go to the ends of the universe to make sure she knows she's loved and treasured. This story had so much action, I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. And the steam was scorching! This series has definitely become a favorite and it's impossible to pick a favorite MC. I love the character development as well!! Greer went from feeling so alone, to having a real family! Ahhh, it really gave me all the feels! I laughed, cried and the ending was just *chef's kiss!!
This series is fast-paced, action-packed, steamy, and hilarious. The entire series was engaging and I loved every moment!
Greer Westbrook is a badass female demon slayer that is independent, strong-willed, and powerful. Yet she is her parent’s biggest disappointment. She doesn’t blindly obey the council’s orders or honor her parent’s legacy in a way they approve of. Fighting and destroying nightmare demons is simply not enough and her parents expect her to wed for political gain. Just because her parent’s have arranged a marriage for Greer doesn’t mean she will submit.
“I’m not meant to love. I’m meant to destroy. To wreck. To break.”
Being unlovable fuels Greer’s drive and determination to be the best demon slayer in America. She avoids any and all relationships outside of physical intimacy. There is no doubt that Greer is more powerful than anyone realizes and her family has failed her by not providing her with support. Her snarky humor and immaturity is surely a result of her upbringing, but I had a difficult time connecting with Greer and felt as though she was reacting poorly. It felt whiny.
Dane the bear shifter (aka Teddy Bear) was the best part of this story. Who knew a big bad bear shifter could be so soft? Valen Valmont, a fellow demon slayer, would do anything to protect his mother from his abusive father, including agreeing to an arranged marriage with Greer. Their relationship was rocky from the start as they channeled enemies-to-lovers vibes. Valen has past trauma of his own to deal with and I think he and Greer have more in common than they want to admit. Bastian is a mysterious faery from the fae realm and he might just be my absolute favorite.
Buckle up readers — you’re in for a thrilling emotional roller coaster with this book! Greer’s journey continues in this second installment and we are thrust into even ore action, adventure, danger, and steam. Greer, Valen, Dane, and Rippley are reeling from Bastian’s betrayal and must navigate moving forward surrounded by danger.
“Your never getting rid of me, teddy bear.”
Oh Dane. He is 100% my favorite in the harem. He’s a big bad bear shifter but he’s a soft cuddly teddy bear with his mate. Don’t get me wrong, I love the relationships that Greer has with her other men, but Dane takes the cake for me. I’m so glad that Greer opened up to her men because she has always been so closed off.
Greer’s parents are awful but her mother is absolutely vile. Eryx is also the WORST. I’m definitely looking forward to Greer’s revenge!
Greer’s epic journey concludes in this heart-pounding and action packed final installment in the series. Readers are treated to even more action, danger, twists, delicious steam, and hilarious comic relief. Greer, Valen, Dane, and Bastian have been through a wild ride and they must fight to achieve their happily ever after.
“Nothing’s taking me out before I get to live out the g@ng b@ng of my p0rn star dreams.” (This quote made me laugh out loud!!!)
Oh Greer. She’s such a badass despite everything that has happened in her life. I loved that she coped with such extreme situations with hilarious comments. Her character growth has been so great to read. I was just so glad that she finally had people in her life she could completely trust and rely on. She definitely deserved it after her mother’s betrayal. It was lovely to see her bonds with each of her men and friends grow.
Don’t worry readers, Greer’s vile mother doesn’t get away with her actions. *wink*
*Shadow Slayer Super start There is a lot packed into this first book in terms of action and emotions 😃 Greer is the leading slayer for her area but not without some deep seated parental issues ☹️ yet honestly she is kicka£$ in that she does not let this stop her being herself! She knows exactly who she is and she is not afraid to be that person 🙌🏻 love her snark AF inner monologue as well!! 😍 She does not suffer fools gladly and unfortunately when there appears to be a turbulence and change in the demons she’s slaying she might just have to deal with it alone 😩 However her building list of admirers for this warrior women might just force her to deal with things!! There’s a forced arranged marriage with the broody British slayer Valen - definite marry or maim vibes there! A devoted cuddly bear shifter Dane who agreed managed to save and now she’s his all! And then the mysterious Bastian who has some suspicious timings with his arrival…. All of them want to stick by Greer and help her vulnerable side 🥰 there’s a fair amount of tooing and froing between this building group but you really feel how they help Greer grow! Soo interested to see how they recover from that shocking end right there! Action and adventure a plenty in this one to keep you reading 😃
* Twilight Terrors (To Kill a Nightmare 2) Terrifyingly Tough Times! Honestly if I didn’t think Greer would stab me I would be hugging and holding onto this girl for life! She definitely needs all the love and support she can get 🤗 It picks up instantly after the last book and the betrayal they faced, which makes Greer question her instincts 😣 a trip into Faerie after said betrayer ends in disastrous consequences for Ripley and Greer shows her development as a friend in helping her through….and finding a way to cheer Riley up - the gym scene 😜😄 However for Greer, the betrayal truly stings, so Dane and Valen really step up and show her she’s ok to be vulnerable but that she’s also got this, yet the betrayal is not what it seems and thankfully Greer gets her Fae 🥰 her three lovers really show Greer she is everything despite what her parents say! And honestly they are the worst…despite all the evidence of the Nightmares they refuse to believe they’re real….what’s more Bash may have a connection to those who are releasing them into the world 😫😫 but honestly nothing can top what Bianca has done to Greer….it’s her worst nightmare come to life, or so she thought until the wedding! Honestly my heart broke 😥 Be prepared for all the emotions in this book - and I need the last one ASAP to see how Greer and her men get out of this 😬
* Midnight Monsters Epic Ending 😍 Ahhh this final book of the trilogy is soo fulfilling!! It’s always a worry when you read a book that the end will be a bit meh after such a good hype…but this gives you all that you want 😄 Don’t get me wrong, Greer, Dane, Bash and Valen really have their work cut out for them with the odds stacked against them but they get a well deserved HEA in the end 😍 The book starts in the chaos of the wedding and the confrontation with the witches which is only made worse by the arrival of the nightmares 😦😦 and honestly it does from bad to worse throughout this book! But thankfully Greer is one of the strongest FMCs and she has grown so much throughout this series, that she can now rely on her new found friends Ripp and Madi 😁 aswell as her guys, who really really come together as a family unit in this one, having each others back and really having a bromance going on between the three of them 🥰 And oh the karma that’s served in this book 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 it’s just 😙😙! Greer realises she’ll has all the family she needs in those she’s collected 😄
Oh and that’s bonus epilogue is all you could want for Greer and her guys after all they’ve been through!! 🥰
I've really enjoyed this series and I really hope these authors write more books together. It's a great series, very entertaining with strong colourful characters, lots of action and tons of laughs and a great ending.
#1 SHADOW SLAYER
It took me quite a while to warm up to the FMC, Greer. The first few chapters she came across a bit like a stroppy teenager who seems to go out of her way to annoy others. Once the story gets going and other characters are introduced she becomes easier to like and did start to grow on me a bit about half way through the book - she has some brilliant 'come backs' and one-liners.
Greer's parents decide to marry her off to further their own agenda, but its not made clear yet what that might be. Then in steps Valen, her British fiance, who's father also has an unknown agenda.
The story follows Greer, a slayer, as she takes on creatures others avoid. Then she comes across demons she can't identify and this leads to a very interesting and entertaining road trip!
I definitely think the side characters are the stars of this story, they are a great mix of personalities.
#2 TWILIGHT TERRORS
"It keeps bumping it's flat nose into the door like a glitching rumba," - loved the humour in this book!
Wow, what a book, I thought book 1 was good but this one was even better. The nightmares are still appearing, but nobody else seems to be taking them seriously.
This book mostly concentrates on the relationships Greer is building with her guys and her friends. We get to see all the conversations with everyone and can truly see them all bonding with each other, and I think a lot of authors miss this, opportunity, but I loved it. I admit that I laughed out loud many times whilst reading - especially the Goldilocks debate, genius! The banter and camaraderie between everyone really showed the family dynamics. Greer finally starts to realise that she doesn't have to be alone anymore.
Greer, her guys and her friends make for a mismatched bunch, but that's also what makes them such a great team.
But then in steps her 'mother', who is cruel for the sake of being cruel, and as much as Greer knows she shouldn't listen, she can't help herself. How can someone hate someone else so much? She really does outdo herself towards the end of this book, which sets the wheels in motion for the cliffhanger.
There are so many politics at play in the slayer world and her mother is determined to play them to her advantage, but that means Greer and Valen are forced to play to the game too, when all they want to do is go out an kill the nightmares.
#3 MIDNIGHT MONSTERS
The book is full of action and suspense as everyone tries to fight the nightmares whilst also trying to come to some kind of truce so they can help each other.
Greer and her mates only grow stronger as a family and it's so heartwarming to see Greer realise she has people she can rely on and love.
There are some great lines in this book (and the series), although there were a few tv/film references that went over my head.
The ending is perfect for Greer, her guys and extended family, and without providing any details, Greer's mother does not get away with her awful behaviour.
# Bonus Epilogue
This was a great addition to the series, Greer plays out a Goldilocks role play on her guys. It was funny, sweet, sexually frustrating for the guys but showed the close bond they all have together. A great ending to the series.
Wow! This series is amazingly good. I could not put it down!
Greer is a Slayer, and she’s incredibly skilled at it. You’d think that being the best at what she does would earn the respect (at the very least) from her supervisor; but since Greer’s supervisor is also her power-hungry, uncaring, and downright cruel mother, you’d be wrong. So very wrong. I got the impression that Greer’s mom read “Mommie Dearest” and scoffed aloud, thinking Joan was a total amateur who showed way too much love to her kids.
Greer’s dad is no better. He’s completely aloof and unresponsive to her; he basically ignores Greer entirely and doesn’t even show her the courtesy of looking at her. It’s as though she doesn’t even exist in his eyes.
Needless to say, Greer is lonely. Knowing the power her mother wields over her and her fellow Slayers, and the ways her mother could - and certainly would - manipulate and/or punish anyone for aligning in any way with Greer, the young slayer distances herself from others & puts up walls to keep everyone else at arm’s length.
Some see her as rebellious, uncouth, rough-around-the-edges, strong-willed, and overconfident. While Greer is all of those things, she also comes from a place of insecurity, fear, and longing to be deserving of love and respect. She’s also a spitfire, strong, independent, caring, funny, absolutely badass, and considerate. She fights for the safety of her community and for the safety of the other Slayers - even those that look down on her, hurt her, and disparage her efforts.
In a bid for political power, Greer’s parents set her up in an arranged marriage. Understandably, Greer is not having it. She’s trying to put her focus on the recent attacks coming from unknown and overly-strong creatures. No one seems to heed her warnings that these creatures are nearly impossible to kill, and their numbers are growing.
As she wages her one-woman battle against the mystery creatures, Greer begins to form bonds and friendships - and discovers she actually has allies. Opening herself up is a struggle for her, since she’s never had anyone trustworthy and reliably in her corner. But as she learns to let people in a little, she is able to begin healing from the damage done to her by her parents.
I love the world-building. I love how Greer’s vulnerability is hidden behind a brash exterior, just waiting for the right people to see her for who she really is underneath. I love that she finds people deserving of her, and how she keeps fighting - even for those who aren’t deserving of her in the least.
Her love interests are all very intriguing and well fleshed-out in their own rights; as are those who become her allies & friends. Each of Greer’s men can see a different side of her that has been calling out in pain for so long, and they help heal her traumas in their own ways. I really liked seeing the ways in which they come to see Greer’s self-defense mechanisms and recognize them for what they are, and the ways in which they answer her silent calls for help and understanding.
There’s a lot of trouble and pain going on, but there’s also humor, snark, and fun to offset it. I really enjoyed getting to the bottom of what was happening with the council and the nightmare creatures, and following Greer’s journey throughout.
I highly recommend this book/series; it could be an amazing TV series or movie!
This is definitely one of my all time favourite series. This complete series edition is perfect for a first time read or even as a re-read as it has a bonus epilogue at the end that wasn't included at the end of the last book, so there is something new for everyone.
Shadow Slayer (Book 1) I am in love with this book ... and Dane. We have Greer, a lone demon slayer. Most slayers hunt with a partner but she refuses to, she prefers it this way. She has relationship issues with her parents but the when they arrange a marriage behind her back she is determined to find a way out of it. These 2 authors are both in my favourites list so when I spotted a co-write, Gimme gimme gimme! It was what I expected, or maybe more. We had a fated mates vibe with Dane, A enemies to lovers (in progress) with Valen but I'm not sure yet about where Bastian fits in. There is plenty of action in this and a few giggles along the way, so many quotes I love. And I am totally in love with Dane!
Twilight Terrors (book2) The Dynamic Duo strikes again! That is how I will now be referencing this author pairing as separately they are amazing but together they are phenomenal! Although the story is not yet complete, this book for me has got to be book of the year. The authors take the reader on a roller-coaster of emotions, from laughter on Dane and Valens night out to sadness , anger and tears. Bianca is most definitely villainess of the year and poor Greer was totally put through the emotional wringer
Midnight monsters (Book 3) I had such high hopes for this book. The first two books were so amazing I was a little worried that this might not live up to my expectations. But it surpassed them! It is now my all time favourite series by any author! We got the badass fighting scenes, we got the hot and steamy scenes, we got the humour (Bastion in particular made me laugh) but underneath it all there was emotion. It dealt with falling in love, the forging of friendships and abuse, emotional and physical abuse by parents and the spousal abuse with Valen's dad against his mum. There was so much character development with Greer and also Valen and how they overcame this and emerged much stronger. And there was even a surprising twist with the situation with Valen's parents. One quote in particular struck a chord with me "But I guess that's the thing about abuse. It's slow and relentless chipping away of who you were and what you believe about yourself until there's barely anything left." That is so true. The authors made sure that all the i's were dotted and the t's crossed when finishing this story. All the characters and their fates were accounted for even the side characters with everything all rounded up nicely (Bianca's fate was so satisfying!). A perfect ending to an amazing series!
Shadow Slayer, Book 1: Greer might be the best slayer around, with success rate double to anyone else's, yet one thing she is definitely lacking is appreciation and love from her own parents. And the cherry on top? Her parents just decided to force a marriage on her. Rebellious and stubborn Greer of course does not accept the decision at face value, fighting her fiancé Valen at every turn, preferring the company of certain bear shifter. Yet there seems to be much larger threat on the horizon than the marriage - nightmarish demons she never heard of roaming the realm, preying on fear. She might need a partner (or a handful) to fight this new threat, after all.. Action packed story spiced with sexy moments, lots of relationship drama, family issues, and some hilarious moments that bring great entertainment. I enjoyed Greer's rough edges as much as Dane's big soft heart, Valen's charm and loyalty, Bastian's absolute incapability to fit in and even Rippley's wayward magic. The world building is also very interesting, and I am curious to see how this will go on further.
Twilight Terrors, book 2: Thank goodness Greer is such a badass, because otherwise I'd wonder how she'd manage to put up with so much BS. Her mother deserves a prize for the mom of the year for how she treats her daughter, and father is just a tad better, being mostly silent observer and letting Bianca have her way. AJ? Not worth wasting air for mentioning his sorry existence. Yet maybe the biggest challenges to Greer's composure and peace is the situation around Bastian - because what Greer thinks and what is reality are two vastly different things. I love and admire Greer, absolutely enjoy the banter within the growing harem, totally root for Rippley, and melt when I see how much both Greer and Valen progress in fighting their own demons by trusting the other one. Sharing the baggage definitely helps. And Eryx is an interesting addition to the game, shuffling the cards and adding another layer to the complexity of the story. I also very much enjoyed exploring the faerie realm with Greer. Great series so far.
Midnight Monsters, Book 3: This is the rising from the ashes for someone so fierce as Greer is. Like a phoenix, she conquers her traumas and weaknesses, finds the strength in the men around her and her allies, and stands up to the evil, prideful b*tches of her life to prove them they were wrong about her. I love how the broken, grieving caricature of Greer turns into the most awesome slayer again, unites the harem around her strengthening the bonds, and brings justice where it was long due. A great finale to this series, where the one and only admirable heroine shone like a sun, but also accentuated the value and strength of those around her.
Harper Frey and Rory Miles have put the To Kill A Nightmare series into a box set. I devoured this series and the mfc Greer, is one of my favorite leading ladies. Plus there's a new bonus scene that comes with the box set, it ties back to something that was mentioned throughout the series. It's steamy and hilarious. If you know, then you know.
Greer is utterly fantastic and quite deadly. She is a skilled slayer, one of the best and her job is her life because she loves keeping people safe. However she's not really close to anyone, she doesn't fit in with the other slayers and even her parents are cruel, always have been. Greer had to build walls but she didn't let turn her heart bitter and my heart goes out to her, all that she had to face with no one in her corner breaks my heart.
I was incredibly happy when Greer started having people in her corner. First was Dane, the bear shifter with the sweetest disposition and the kindest heart. Then there's Valen the fiancé who starts off as a jerk but has these moments where his wall is down, he has his own issues, a darkness from his past that interfere with his present, but he turns it around. Finally, there's Bastian, a flirtatious fae who gives Greer a run for her money. With these guys in her corner, Greer finally finds the love and care that's been missing in her life.
While I have heard of slayers before (I mean, hello, Buffy) I've never read about them before so I find this whole culture around slayers interesting. As usual, it's the council members who I don't trust, they seem harsh and focused only on themselves. Like I expected anything else from a council. I liked that the story is set in Portland, that was a first for me and I liked that there's a supernatural community that varied. This series did have its dark moments, verbal, emotional, and physical abuse was represented and so was the trauma stemming from it. The plot was good, figuring out the mystery about what's going on, the attacks, and the family drama, and seeing the new relationships getting figured out was great but it was the emotion that helped me connect to the story.
To Kill a Nightmare is an epic series. The monsters were slayed, the bad guys got what was coming to them and Greer finally got the HEA she deserves, filled with friends and family. Harper and Rory gained another fan with this series. It's just a bummer that such a ridiculously good series is over. I'm hoping that in the future Harper and Rory will collaborate again.
Shadow Slayer: Despite being one of the best demon slayers in the country, Greer is an social outcast and rejected by her own parents due to her brash no nonsense attitude. What I like about Greer is that she is hard yet vulnerable. She is definitely not made of stone and you can feel her pain at the rejection she constantly feels from others. While this book was full of action it felt like a buildup to set the stage for the real action so I am definitely looking forward to that. Of all of her guys Bastian was the stand out for my favorite due to his quick wit and hilarious sense of humor followed by Dane because he is seriously such a sweetheart. I don't know - maybe they are tied lol. The ending is a cliffhanger of the best kind - enough to leave you wanting more without making you feel too insane.
Twilight Terrors: The last book ended in a betrayal and Greer and the rest of the gang are trying to regroup and figure out what to do next while Greer tries to prepare herself for the big wedding to Valen. There will be many twists, some reveals, and lots of drama in this book of the series. This one also ends on a cliffhanger.
SPOILER BELOW:
Midnight Monsters: GREAT ending to the series. The nightmare threat was becoming bigger and more evolved and they could have imagined and there is just Greer and her people standing between them and a literal apocalypse event in the very near future. With Greer's mom being the biggest nightmare of them all (figuratively) they are on their own to build a team of allies for this face off to save the world. I felt like the authors were like 'goodness gracious here's the issue with the mate mark' for irate readers like me lol. Sorry I should have been more patient and let y'all work your writing magic. Loved the way this final book played out. We got all of the in-group drama out of the way and it's time to take the world on together because there's a bunch of craziness going on. Excellent build up and flow of the storyline, epic showdown, and conclusion. Can definitely see this being a reread in the future.
Rory and Harper came out, guns blazing, with a fancy new fantasy world that was full of brash adventure, snarky comebacks, spicy tension, and enough action to keep my eyes flying across the page as fast as they could read. Greer is full of the defiant anger that bleeds into every interaction she has, not just with her less than stellar parents.
The collection of men Greer attracts is broad, and I loved the juxtaposition of Valen and Dane. It wasn't simply growly alpha against golden retriever boyfried vibes. No, this was stoic, clenched, dry humored Brit, against the fiercely protective bear shifter who says and does what he feels. Their dynamic is one of my favorites in a long time, and the addition of Bastian kept the relationships on its proverbial toes. The only thing I liked better than Valen and Dane together, was the amount of action, and how well written it was. This wasn't a spicy book with one or two scenes running away from a monster. It was littered with the practicalities of a fighter's life, from paperwork, to gym workouts, to uncomfortable work meetings, and the small details helped build and support how deeply Greer is sunk into her work. I appreciated the humor woven in, and the pop culture references as well.
I read some early chatter that I'd hate Greer's mother by the end of this book. And I doubted that assessment. How bad could it be? Greer is a bad ass. She has another Slayer, a Shifter, and a Fae on her side, that sounds like good odds. Forget that. Nightmares featured her mother for a reason, and it was all brought to a soul shattering peak. My throat was aching with unshed tears, and I wish a thousand painful endings to Bianca.
The Rory Miles and Harper Frey duo ended their Nightmare trilogy with a bang. Greer's mother, Bash's brother, some prejudicial witches, lost mate marks, Valen's father, and of course the roaming nightmares. Thankfully, it all came together with a bow on top. Rory and Harper managed to give us a spectacular ending with enough twists and turns it didn't feel entirely predictable. The nightmare defeat especially was great action writing, and I was grinning with no remorse as Bianca's pride and influence came crashing down. In particular, the karma with Valen's father was a favorite scene of mine in the whole book. Underneath the action, we had spice that blew from simmering to a boil. Greer continued to let her men into her heart, and I was just as enamored with Dane as with Valen and Bash.
Shadow Slayer-Book 1 Greer is one of the best Slayers around, even with her a tendency to break the rules. Too bad her parents, and bosses, are convinced that she is a worthless disappointment. No matter what she does, she will never be good enough in their eyes. When they decide to marry her off to the son of another powerful Slayer family, she has had enough. Who cares if her "fiancé" is a spoking hot Englishman, she's not interested in being a pawn. Turns out, he's not the only man who wants to lay a claim on Greer. A bear shifter and a fae warrior, not to mention some nightmarish monsters have all decided they'd like a piece of her too. This is a great start to a new RH series. The chemistry between Greer and the guys is fire and they action is non-stop. A word of warning, this book does end in a pretty abrupt cliffhanger but hopefully we won't have to wait long for book 2. I can't wait to see what happens next!
Twilight Terrors-Book 2 I need more!! Book 2 was even better than Book 1, leaving me desperate for more. While Greer is still kicking monster/demon/nightmare butt, it's her family demons that are really out for blood. If you are sensitive to abusing family drama, prepare yourself because this book has it in spades. The last few chapters had me practically boiling with rage for Greer. My greatest hope is that karma will come calling in Book 3. Thankfully, Greer's amazing guys have her back. Their chemistry just keeps getting hotter. Romance, action, revelations and betrayal, this book has it all. The last chapter had me on the edge of my seat and anxiously waiting for Book 3. Get this book, you will not be disappointed.
Midnight Terrors-Book 3 Perfect! It has been a long time since I have been this happy with the way a series ended. The book checked every box for me. Greer, Dane, Valen and Bastian have taken so many hits in this series but in this final book, vindication is theirs. I won't give any spoilers, but I am walking away from this series loving the way it ended and the karma doled out. Greer and the guys finally get the happily ever after they desperately deserve, along with some serious butt kicking and some really stellar romps between the sheets. I 100% recommend this book and this series. You will not be disappointed.
I love the fact this series has been compiled into a boxset. I really enjoyed all three books.
Book one in the boxset was a brilliant starter to a new series from the authors. Greer is a slayer, she protects the innocent from the nasties in the world. She comes from a family that doesn't seem to care about anything other than how much she embarrasses them. She's an interesting character that some might find a little hard to warm up to but I loved her. She's confident, sassy and maybe a little defiant.
When her parents agree to marry her off to another slayer family, it's the last thing she wants. Especially after she comes across an interesting bear shifter during one of her hunts.
The story is action-packed with a sprinkling of spice.
Book two in the boxset was a wild ride from start to finish. I absolutely adore Greer, and the banter between Valen and Dale is completely on point, and hilarious. There's betrayal, loss and action galore with this one, and one hell of a cliffhanger ending.
Greer is definitely one of my favourite FMCs. No matter how many times she is told she's worthless, it does affect her but she seems to come out of it stronger, even when her helion of a mother does everything she can to bring her down. That and now she has three wonderful guys who will support her no matter what and tell her she is worth more than she knows.
Book three in the boxset jumps straight back into the action, Greer is set to marry Valen but Dane infiltrates the wedding after Bianca cuts away their mating mark and he can no longer feel Greer. Not just that but we get some witches who want to kill Bastian and of course, the pain in the behind nightmares that are trying to destroy the world, with a side of Bastian's twin.
There's a lot of action and a lot of twists and turns along the way during this story. Greer is being attacked from all sides, not just by the nightmares but also by her mother, witches and well anyone else who feels like joining the party.
It was nice to see Greer finally get her happily ever after with her guys after she's been through so much torment in her life, she has three men who love her deeply and care about what happens to her. I really enjoyed this series and am a little sad it's over.
Loved this series so much!! Three books in one box set!! Triple the action!!
Shadow Slayer-- Book 1 This book was entertaining, thrilling and sensual at the same time. Greer is a great FMC and knows what she wants. Dane is a shifter who wants Greer. Valen is a slayer, like Greer, and is forced into something he can't say no on. The three of them have to overcome the things they fear most in order to slay demons. There are many twists and turns in this book and events that make you want to read more. Not only do they need to slay demons, but they also have to be true to themselves and communicate/overcome their fears. Will they be able to do that and slay the demons together? Or will it end up in smoke? The book ends on a dramatic cliffhanger that will make you want the next book in your E-reader now.
Twilight Terrors--Book 2 This is the 2nd book of the series and I loved it! So many twists and turns, you do not want to put it down! Love Greer and her men and the obstacles they overcome. You can definitely see the characters grow! Greer is becoming a stronger FMC and her men love her for it. Can't wait for next book!
Midnight Monsters--Book 3 The last book.of the series and I'm sad to let these characters go. It was such a great book and great ending to these characters. I'm glad some of the characters got what they deserved but also that it was a happy ending that fit Greer, Valen, Dane and Bastian. It made me tear up a little when I read that Epilogue.
This book was such a roller coaster of emotions but they were overcome by Greer. Where the last book made you so angry and hurtful, this book made you happier and feel the love. I loved Bastian's quirkiness and how is so matter-of-fact. It makes me laugh when he says certain things. Dane's personality is so heartfelt it makes you swoon for him so much. And Valen is such a fierce slayer but is really a softie when it comes to Greer and his mom.
Greer has overcome so much from the nightmares, to her mother and her own personal demons. And she comes out strong and fighting with not only her mates, but her friends also. I loved this ending and this book. So sad to see them go!
This is an incredible series and now it’s all together in one boxset! Book one A great start to this series as we meet one kick ass female slayer that’s being forced into marriage by her parents! Throw in not one but three super hot guys, Dane, Valen and Bastian who compliment her in different ways as each of them are unique in their own ways and personalities. Greer is tough, strong and full of sass and snark and is such a fab character and the story is exciting, engrossing and filled with action, adventure, demons, and family! Twists and turns and beasties in the night will have hooked and on the edge of your seat whilst other times you will find yourself laughing out loud. It’s a great combo in this why choose romance and I am eager for more! Book two Well I loved book one but I think book two was even better! Greer’s journey continues and it’s jam packed filled with, adventure, danger, action and plenty of steam. Be prepared as you jump on this rollercoaster cause it’s very emotional, it’s intense, it’s intriguing and there’s heartbreaking moments and betrayal and at times you will find yourself teary then in others laughing out loud. It’s an incredible story set in an incredible world and told in such a great way that you find yourself totally drawn in addicted. I am very excited for book three. Book three I cannot believe that we are at the end of this series! Greer has had her magic bound and been torn away from her guys by her own mother and just as Greer was finally getting some good in her life after all of the bad and the trauma she has had to endure! But Greer is a survivor and with her men nothing can stop her in this heart stopping, heart pounding, epic conclusion. Well paced, action packed, this exciting conclusion saw the monsters taken down and the bad guys defeated and in amongst all the drama and the danger Greer and Dane, Bastian and Valen finally get the ending most fitting for them! There was some laughter, some fun moments and hilarity but there was also a few tears shed along this intense and thrilling journey, but what a journey it has been.
Book 1: Oh, that's bad, so very, very bad.... this story sunk its hooks in me and did not release me. This world is utterly amazing. I absolutely love Greer! Her brand of snark is right up my alley and I laughed out loud regularly throughout this book. Dane... can I have him? Like seriously? I need him. And Valen... hmmm, why won't he just say what's wrong? I kind of want to ring his neck. I utterly adore Rippley and I hope that she somehow, gets her own story, because it would be so freaking funny! I need more from this world!!! I absolutely cannot wait for the next book!
Book 2: Holy cheese and rice Batman!!! What in the ever-loving heck just happened? Things were looking relatively good for a while there. But it just went to hell in a hand basket. I am so utterly invested in this story. I think part of my heart just broke. I need the next book in this series to fix me. Greer, the guys, Rippley.... I love each and every one of these characters. I am seriously hoping a few of our villains get the much-needed karma heading their way! I absolutely cannot wait for the next book!
Book 3: So, so good!!! I loved absolutely every last second of this last installment of Greer's story! I don't want this to be the end. The emotions that I felt reading were intense. We still have everything that all great books need. We get a lot more development to Greer's character and even some of the guys. There is still a little world building as well. I loved all the karma that was dished out in this one!! It was perfection!! Seeing those awful characters get what was coming to them was utterly amazing. I cannot wait for everyone to read Greer's story; I desperately need someone to talk to about this series!! The side characters in this book were fantastic. Rippley being my favorite. I would love to see a series for her! I think it was be hilarious and full of wonderful mischief!
Shadow Slayer There is a lot going on here and I loved it! From terrible parents, to cuddly bear shifters, Greer has a heck of a lot going on right now. Battling weird demons while navigating complicated parental relationships and arranged marriage, the quirky and cute characters she meets along the way and the blossoming love she has going on with 3 equally hot and complicated men, this is a fast paced adventure that had me giggling out loud in parts. With a cliffhanger ending that makes me hope that this is what the Oracle witch was talking about, this is the start of an epic new series! Twilight Terrors Wow, wow, wow. Greer is an unstoppable force, powerful, skilled and an amazing slayer. The relationships she is building are full of twists and turns, but at the base of them are the utter adoration that her men have for her as a woman. She's going to need that adoration, their love to get through this next bit of her life. Greer's mother is a total evil baddie, hiding behind her councillor role, her father is a spineless idiot and I finished this book wondering how the hell either of them could have contributed to the DNA of this amazing heroine. With the battle against the nightmares continuing, the emergence of new bad guys and the planning of Greer and Valen's wedding, this book is packed with action! Midnight Monsters Greer has been through so much already in this series, but it's time to wrap it up! Will she and her mates get rid of the shadow beasts infecting the Earth? Can she overcome all that her mother has put her through and is still putting her through? The Slayers, Fae, Shifters and Witches are going to need to come together in a massive way to save their worlds! Valen, Dane and Bastien continue to drive Greer wild, both by putting themselves in danger and by driving her wild in other ways! This was a great finale and I just loved it. Hot, hot, hot!
Being one of the strongest demon slayers ever should make your parents proud of you, right? Well, not for Greer Westbrook. She is independent in how she handles the job, which her parents do not appreciate. And in the end, they want her to marry for more power, basically a political move. Her betrothed is less than thrilled, something they both have in common, and things take an interesting turn when two more men come into her life. Now she is juggling three guys while also tackling family problems and battling through mysterious situations. Shadow Slayer was a great start to the To Kill a Nightmare series!
Twilight Terrors
We are thrust back into the world of Greer and her men in book 2 of the To Kill a Nightmare series! Twilight Terrors was on an emotional rollercoaster full of laughs, action and suspense, and a spillage of steam (no pinches here). With so much tension laced throughout, it's a miracle I didn't crack my kindle screen. Among all the chaos, it's a wonder our heroes were able to keep everything together, to a point. A whirlwind continuation in the To Kill a Nightmare series!
Midnight Monsters
We are back for a final time with Greer and her men in the conclusion to the To Kill a Nightmare series! The main characters have been through a lot and book 3 does not hold back its punches to these characters. Greer being our MFC has definitely seen the most growth as she has been slowly coming into her own throughout the series. The relationships between her and her mates has always been heat filled, but Midnight Monsters takes the steam to 11! I truly adore how each men interact with Greer and support her. All in all, between the action, revelations, suspenseful twists and turns, and heat-filled moments, this was a fantastic conclusion! Can't wait to see what is next by these authors!
Book 1 I really enjoy seeing a strong kickass FMC and Greer is definitely that. She’s a demon slayer and she’s the best in her area no matter what her parents or other slayers think. Her parents make an arrangement with another family in another council and Greer is not thrilled with that and neither is the guy. This is an RH and there are some steamy moments. There’s also a lot of action and it’s pretty fast paced. I was really happy that Greer’s guys respected her abilities and it was fun to watch the different relationships develop. Some character make me a bit wary but I’m excited to see what’ll happen in the next book. The different supernatural creatures were also a lot of fun. Can’t wait to see more of the over all plot and what’s going to happen with Greer and her men.
Book 2 I love Greer so much and need the next book desperately. I’m happy to see the balance of strong warrior with vulnerable sides. Though that cliffhanger is making me slightly crazy. There were some very intense moments with some great action. I’m very curious to see where this series will go and what’ll happen next. I hope Greer continues to let others in along with strengthening the bonds she has developed so far.
Book 3 I’ve wanted to hug Greer so many times. She’s been through so much and in the beginning she was merely surviving but with her men supporting her she’s been working through everything she’s been through. Each relationship she has feels different and are amazing. Each guy gives her something she needs and pushes her in different ways. This one had me hooked from the first few pages and I couldn’t get enough of it. This one tied things together very well and I was extremely happy with what happened in the end to the characters. This series is awesome and seriously action packed with a lot of character development. I never wanted it to end.
Overall First, if you have read these books still get the boxset for the bonus epilogue/scene! I loved this series! Dane had my heart from the start. I loved how fierce Greer was and loved the twist and turns we had. Loved Rippley and she had me laughing. Valen and Bastian also had my heart. My review for each book is below!
Book 1 I cannot wait for the next book. I loved this book. Absolutely love Greer and her fierceness. Dane.... Oh, Dane is so sweet! Valen and Greer could be unstoppable once they let the walls between them break. Rippley cracked me up! Bastian is different, though I have my own theories especially with the ending that I'm keeping to myself not to give it away. I just keep remembering what the witch said about not trusting the twins. This is the first time reading this author, but it won't be the last and not just because I can't wait for the next book!
Book 2 Well, I knew I would love this book because I absolutely loved book one, but holy cow this book! It was action packed, emotional, intense, all the things that make it great!! My head is spinning. Absolutely love Greer and have loved Dane since Book 1. Valen is growing on me! I cannot wait until Book 3.
Book 3 Goodness what a wild ride!!! I was so excited to get more of these characters. I don't want to give anything away, but I could go on and on!!! I couldn't love the guys anymore. I am so sad the story is done, but it was so good I loved all the characters! So many friendships made! I am so glad Greer, Valen, Dane, and Bastian got their happily ever after!! Also, Valen's mom... my heart! Never mess with Mama!! As we already knew Greer is a leader, nothing that her mother said has ever been true!! So good!!
Book 1 This book was absolutely amazing!! I enjoyed getting to know Greer, she is such a bad@ss. She’s not blind to her own faults, and I admire her vulnerability. Her Teddy Bear is so adorable, and the way he interacts with Greer is done in a really authentic way. I felt really sorry for Valen and honestly, I’m am rooting for him! A surprising twist at the end - I’m sure there has to be more to it. A well written, unique take on a different kind of supernatural UF.
Book 2 Wow! Just…wow. I’m a little lost for words here. This was such an incredible story, with so many twists and turns, highs and such sad lows. Honestly, this has to be one of my top 10 books of this year. It is hilarious (I mean, “slay bae”?! Momster! Genius. I was so happy with the developments between Greer and her guys. Such growth!! And, we all knew how big of a bitch Bianca is, but she truly showed her awful, vindictive, selfish and utterly hateful self in this book. Yeah, crazy. I have no idea how Greer, Valen, Dane, and Bastian will get out of this one.
Book 3 First of all, I really appreciate it when an author adds in a little “previously in the series” content. It helps refresh my memories and saves time trying to remember events. Now, I LOVE these characters, they are unique and multi layered. So, yeah, they went through lots of growing pains and developed so much (as individuals and as a unit). I still hate Greer’s mom, though - she’s the worst. The emotional damage due to generational trauma, damn. I enjoyed the banter, witty and snarky clap backs, and of course the pop culture references. This is a fantastic series and this book was just everything I needed in my life right now. Chef’s kiss.
Shadow slayer I wanna be Greer when I grow up!!! She is such a strong, independent character. We can see she has so much debt. This was an excellent start to the series. Greer starts out the book kicking butt and continues throughout. She has started a little collection of men along her way. We meet Dash the bear shifter. And he is just precious!!! I could use one like him in my life. I like that it is muli pov. I liked seeing what the other characters' opinions of Greer are. We start to see her world develop. I found it supper steamy and absolutely great. And talk about a cliffhanger. Be prepared. You will be wanting more!!!
Twilight terrors I just love Greer!!!!! She is amazing!!! This is the second book in the series, and I can not wait for the next book!! Greer and her men are so steamy. There is off the chart chemistry. Greer herself is such a kick butt character. She has grown up taking care of herself, and now she has the men in her life. She isn't sure how to wrap her head around the fact that they actually care! This book is fast-paced and a quick read. Once I started, I couldn't put it down. Oooh, the ending, prepare yourself! It is an epic cliffhanger!!! I am so ready for the next book. I need more Greer!!!!!
Midnight Monsters I can not say enough about this book. I just loved it. Greer is the best!!! This is the final book in the series, and I am sad. I don't want it to end. I would love more of Greer and her men more. She is just an amazing character. She kicks butt. It was fast-paced. I wonderful read. So much action. So so soooo steamy!!! Over the top hotness! This book evoked so many emotions in me. I got angry with Greer for her. When she tears up at the end, so did I. I highly recommend this book!!!
An omnibus of all the books - funny, sweet, inspiring, and more!
This read was perfect! I wasn't sure what I was in the mood for before I started this book, but it ended up being exactly this.
Greer is a lone wolf, of sorts. She doesn't work with partners, and any that get placed with her don't last long (usually chased off by her). She's one of the most skilled demon slayer there is, yet no matter what she does, nothing is good enough for her parents who are on their region's council. They say she's an embarrassment, and she's basically a social pariah among her fellow slayers. Needless to say, she lives a pretty lonely life.
Greer's harem grows over time, which is something I love. She meets each guy separately at different periods of the story, so not only does she have to get to know them herself, but the guys have to get to know each other as well and work to find common ground and get along. It takes a lot for her to let any of them in due to being unloved and uncared for for so long, but they slowly earn her trust and prove to her it's okay to rely on others. She learns that there isn't anything "wrong" with her and that there were people out there who had her back even when she didn't realize it.
Once Varen and Dane start getting along, some of their conversations get pretty funny. What makes them funnier is when others happen to walk into them without knowing the context, making it all that much better!
There's some emotional trauma in this book due to uncaring parents, laughter from her men and friends, and inspiration thanks to Greer and her stubborn and caring nature. It's a fantastic read that I'll remember for a while and keep on my "favourites" list!
Shadow Slayer: This was great fun to read. Greer, a shadow slayer is fighting demons to keep the world safe. Unfortunately her upbringing has been lonely without the love she should have had. As she battles with demons she needs to battle her family as well. Her men have some quirky characteristics and there is plenty of tension between them. As things get worse is there more betrayal? The cliffhanger ending means we need to wait for the next book to find out! I loved how the characters relationships developed and the sarcasm and quirkiness had me chuckling regularly. Looking forward to the next book to see what will happen to Greer and her men. Twilight Terrors: What a whirlwind of action in this story. The action that Greer, Valen, Dane and Bastion face from the opening scenes of the book to the closing cliff-hanger is non-stop. There are unexpected twists and turns in the plot coming at them from every direction. There are plots to keep them apart, to debilitate their abilities and power hungry parents that will do whatever it takes. This book was one I couldn't put down, and now I can't wait for the next book in the series! Midnight Monsters: As Greer and her men consolidate their relationships, they face so many trials and tribulations. Between the nightmares that are causing chaos, the parents that are using them, the witches and fae that are all up in arms about one thing or another, there is constant fighting, tension and fear. I loved the way they all coped and grew stronger through their trials. The HEA ending was well deserved by all, and overall this was a fabulous series.
I absolutely LOVED this series, and now that it's in an omnibus, that's even better. There's no wait if you're new to this series between books or waiting for the next book to load.
Shadow Slayer- We have a lot of action in book 1, it's fast pace and we even get some *fun times*. This series doesn't miss out on great characters, side and main characters alike, plus an amazing plot. Greer is a great slayer, one of the best, regardless of this, her parents do not like her. So what do they do? Force her into a marriage with another Slayer named Valen. But, plot twist she's got a bear shifter for a mate, plus Bastian. I mean, it's just chaos. The first book you won't want to stop reading in fear of missing the next thing!
Twilight Terrors- Best thing about an omnibus, no waiting around for the next book woohoo! The action is non stop from the first book. What I did like to see in this one was Greer's growth, she's still the amazing badass, but we see her open herself up a bit more too. I am not a fan of her mother, but thankfully she has her guys now! The cliffhanger to this book will make you happy that book 3 is up next!
Midnight Monsters- This one is definitely the most emotional book out of all 3. It felt like the final book which it was because everything was coming to a close. I definitely will miss all of these characters including the side characters that are so amazing too.
The characters all came into their own but seeing Greer change made me the most happy. She fully embraced her power to become the Slayer she was destined to be. As well as pulling together her found family and all of their love.
