Break Me Twice

Rate this book
College is complicated. It’s hard enough to balance schoolwork with friendships and getting enough sleep, but throw in a devastatingly handsome stalker and the whole thing goes up in smoke. I wasn’t supposed to fall for Adrian Marino. My best friend already had her sights set on him, and it doesn’t seem to matter that he’s perfect for me in every way. He takes an interest in my passions, supports me, pushes me out of my comfort zone in the sack… makes my stomach twist with butterflies every time he looks at me. He’s off limits. The tension between us, the spark, the inferno — it’ll all go away eventually, right? It has to. So why can’t I stay away?

THE RATING IS SOLELY FOR ADRIAN AND NOTHING ELSE!!!

Content warning from the author:
This book contains sexually explicit scenes, explicit language, and other adult themes. The “other woman drama” in this book is limited to a former hook-up who happens to be the FMC’s best friend, but the love interest wants nothing to do with her. He does not look at, talk to, entertain, hook up, or otherwise engage with anyone but the FMC from the time the book starts. There is also a pregnancy scare here as well as a leaked sex tape and mentions of past parental death. Adrian is obsessive and possessive with bad boy tendencies and a one-track mind that doesn’t allow him to take no for an answer. This book contains heavy themes of CNC and public sex, as well as light BDSM dynamics (no honorifics), unsafe sex, anal, oral, light spanking, praise and degradation, somnophilia, choking, breath play, and other kinks such as sexting, masturbation, breeding, and squirting. Additionally, they’re a little toxic for each other, but it ultimately works for them. There is an HEA. Welcome back to Blackridge.

I can't believe I was swept off my feet by a freaking reformed manwhore but here I am. I don't have any fictional men to compare with, but if readers were aware of Rina Kent's mmc's level of possessiveness, obsessiveness, and unhingedness, they would probably agree that Adrian will fit in rightly and they will never be able to tell any difference.

Since Adrian's (21) a player, I honestly expected to hate him, but while I was reading the story, I almost forgot about his reputation. He's sweet, protective, attentive, loving, caring, jealous, and unhinged. He's not above stalking Reagan (18/19) if it means knowing she'll be able to return home safely. It probably helped that he was sorry about sleeping around before her and that there weren't many reminders of his manwhore lifestyle.

Adrian has been all in from the beginning, and he has never backed down and has been relentless in showing Raegan how important she is to him. Sometimes, I find it hard to believe how dedicated and patient this man can be. He's honestly far too good for Raegan. I'm not really sure why he loves her and puts up with her mistreatment of him throughout the whole book. I think he's so deeply in love that the thought of her being absent from his life would drive him insane.

I adore Adrian very much, but my feelings for Raegan are entirely different. The amount of stupidity this girl showed in this story made me shake with rage. Her stubbornness in sticking by her b!tch of a friend, even if that "friend" wouldn't even be as loyal to her, really grates on my nerves. I absolutely despise Abby with every fiber of my being, and Raegan is a close second. Abby acted as though her encounter with Adrian went beyond a drunken fuck; in reality, it was nothing like that. She behaved as though she were a girlfriend who had been dumped and was ghosted after. Adrian barely remembers the hookup because he was on the verge of passing out from drunkenness. But because she had Adrian first, Abby became bitter and began pushing Raegan not to become involved with him. I mean, wtf?

The rest of the story then revolved around Raegan constantly pushing Adrian away out of fear that Abby would be hurt if she found out. She would tell herself to stop seeing Adrian in secret, but her body-betraying crap and attraction would always win out. She would think and say one thing, then act in a completely different way the next minute. I would have gotten inside the book to give this girl a hard shake for being such a stupid character because of the whiplash I kept getting from her. Her first instinct was to always flee from Adrian if something went wrong. Throughout this book, she ghosted him three times. She seems to have no qualms about shutting him off, as if he means nothing to her.

Then there's the "breakup," which I can't even take seriously because it seems like they keep breaking up throughout the story. I don't think anything would have happened to them if it hadn't been for Adrian's stalking and insistence on being with Raegan. Then, in an attempt to move on from Adrian, this girl had the audacity to go on a date. At this point, I just gave up on her. She's no longer worth getting angry about, and I was honestly hoping at this point that Adrian would just dump her and find someone better. She never deserves him—not now, not ever.

Of course, though, they made it work and received their happily ever after. But I'm not pleased that they got together. Adrian could have been with someone better, and he settled for less when he ended up with Raegan. While reading this, I had a strong feeling that he loved her more than she loved him, and that is not acceptable to me. However, Adrian is one of the most devoted and loving mmc I've ever read, so I don't regret supporting him. Yet, it still left a bad taste that she was the one he ended up with.

Overall, this was fun and good only because of Adrian! Still, I can't believe I ended up liking a reformed hoe, but it is what it is. Also, Raegan's wasn't a virgin, and she seemed to have plenty of experience as well, but of course, Adrian is more experienced. I'm just happy to read that both MCs were at least almost on the same level of sexual liberation.

Rea knows she shouldn't like Adrian. It's girl code 101. Her best friend is already mad that he zeroed in on Rea after ghosting her. But what can a girl do when a gorgeous man just won't go away?

My Thoughts

Adrian is Callie's younger brother. Callie from The Night Cap!! (Squeal)

The whole book I wanted to smack Abby ( Rea's friend) she was so self-centered. Completely one-sided and stuck on herself. I really couldn't understand why she bothered with Rea since she didn't seem to like her very much. On the other side, I wanted to shake Rea and tell her to ditch the friendship. She deserved so much better.

I was rooting for Adrian the whole time. He was a sweet beast who clearly went after what he wanted. He cared for Rea and wore his heart on his sleeve for her. He made the whole book. Eyes only for her the whole darn time. Swoon worthy heart stopper.

The spice is non-stop in this one. I was so happy not to have Rea calling him "sir" for some reason that always gives me an ick. The kink was kinky. The spice was spicy. But the love was so lovely 😍

As per usual, this author had me from page 1 until the very end. I fell in love with our smexy simp Ade. Our fmc Reagan was a little annoying with all the back and forth but I get why she was having a hard time.

I flipping KNEW that bXtch was the Heffer behind the drama. All I’m gonna say on that is I hope her pillow is hot as satans b@lls@ck on both sides at night Ana she stubs bet pinky toe every time she walks past her bed. F that cranky, jealous, pitiful nasty brat.

Back to Ade, ugh that guy was ridiculously cute and so I’m love with our fmc. I’m talking almost at first sight. We love an obsessed man. He has eyes only for it fmc from the moment he sees her. I loved the little bit of stalking we got in the beginning. So cute 🥰

I really enjoyed this book. I was hooked in just from the first couple of chapters. Reagan and Adrian are 🤌🏽 even with everything they had to go through to finally end up with each other. The mouth on that man is something else 😮‍💨🥵. And Reagan’s best friend, Abby, can go jump off a cliff 😂. I love anything Octavia writes and I can’t wait for more!

I have never ever hated a “best friend” so much in my life.

GIRLS, IF SHE ISNT CHEERING FOR YOUR HAPPINESS, GET RID OF HER!! Nothing frustrates me more than FMCs refusing to get with the man because of a friend fucking them previously, especially when the man is BEGGING AND PROVING AT EVERY SINGLE POINT that he is utterly obsessed with her.

I am glad Reg punched Abby in the face, I would have done it sooner.

The smut was 100/100, as per usual for Octavia’s books. But Abby and Reg made me want to THROW DOWN!

This stared out pretty good, but the second half of the book was so messy. It was basically just them hooking up and pushing away from each other and repeat cycle.

Gods this book was fantastic!!!! I literally love all of Octavia’s work but this book is in top five. So good. Okay so first I was extremely lucky to get an arc of this book. It had a a really nice pace and the spice as always was brilliant. I really loved Adrian and Reagan’s relationship! They were both really great characters and I couldn’t put their story down! The book had everything you could want, a great romance, humor, angst, sweetness, and as said above spice. Highly recommend!

Adrian’s obsession with Reagan is EVERYTHING. Guy falls first, angst, pining, but also some light (eh or not so light) stalking and a jealous possessive Hero. I love these two together. And the back and forth, will they/won’t they was just perfect! Also I loved the small little cameos from The Night Cap characters! (You don’t have to read it first or anything, Adrian is just the brother of the h in The Night Cap.)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶🌶🌶/5

TW - parental death (past, mentioned and briefly recounted), light stalking (unbeknownst to the stalker 💀), weed, alcohol

CW - OW drama related to a former hookup who happens to be the FMCs best friend but the MMC does not engage in anyway with any other woman incl the best friend from the start of the book, pregnancy scare, leaked sex tape, CNC, public play, light BDSM (no honourifics), unsafe sex, light spanking, degradation, somnophilia, choking, breath play, breeding, toxic relationship

Tropes - (light) stalking, obsessed, possessive, jealous, secret / forbidden

I don't actually know what Octavia Jensen is lacing her books with but I'm hooked 🤷🏽‍♀️

Despite how toxic Adrian (MMC) and Reagan (FMC) were for each other, it was also very clear that they were made for each other. This book teaches a very important lesson and it's that, sometimes, you just have to choose yourself 🤷🏽‍♀️ and fuck all the bros before hoes and chicks before dicks; you can't help who your person is even if it ends up being the person your 'best friend' had one drunken hook up with and then put a claim on said person even though they never spoke after the fact...

That brings me to Abby. Abby is an extremely SHIT best friend and I was literally just waiting for Rea to be like fuck you and climb Adrian like a tree... in public

I'm pretty sure I experienced the first third act breakup that I didn't mind in this book. I understood why it needed to happen and it's not like Adrian stopped stalking her even though he doesn't actually think it's stalking 😅

The smut was defo smutting in this 🥵 the somno scene?! I've re-read that one scene like 3 times since finishing this book 💀 defo recommend

Scale:

⭐️⭐️ - shit, but whatever
⭐️⭐️⭐️ - meh, could've been better
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - lit 👅

I was absolutely hooked from page one. I loved everything about it until around 60%. That’s why I rated 4 only because I feel the third act break up didn’t have to be that long. I mean, I totally get it happening because of the story line..just didn’t need to last as long as it did!

With that being said I loved the MMC Adrian SO much, he is the definition of a jealous/possessive book boyfriend! He was hooked on her from their first meeting. I am normally not an insta love girly but man this one was done right! 👏🏼 he was hilarious and his light stalker tendencies were perfection! Loved him!

The MFC Reagan was ok, I liked her on and off. I didn’t like how she was so worried about a girl who clearly wasn’t her actual bestie because this girl was just plain awful. Nothing good about her (the bestfriend)! She was rude and hateful with everything that Reagan would say! Reagan let her say and do things and I’m just not sure why. I know, I know..part of the story. 😂 just wasn’t a huge fan of that because the friend was making me so angry!

The little “bestie” Abby had no right to be upset with Reagan for being with Adrian. For one, it was a drunken hookup that wasn’t going anywhere. For two, Abby slept with Rae ex who she lost her V too! Get outta here! Then, Abby was the one who sent the video 🙄 ughh clearly not a best friend! Abby was just mad that he chose Rae, and didn’t have feelings for her!

Okay, now on to the SPICE🌶️! YALLLLL, it was gooood! 🥵 I loved all the scenes, they were 👩‍🍳 💋
I loved how they were learning what they liked and what they didn’t in the bedroom! I love how much they trusted each other! 🖤

Over all this was such a great standalone I am happy I got to review as an ARC! 🫶🏻

Break Me Twice was a fun and toxic read! I really enjoyed it! This is the second book in the Blackridge series, but the books are complete standalones so you don’t have to read Take me Twice before this one.

Adrian is a total f*ck boy. He has made his rounds at Blackridge including a night with Reagan’s roomie, Abby. Abby was completely dickmatized by Adrian and felt their night together meant something. When Reagan meets and connects with a hot guy at a party, she and Abby are both shocked to discover that guy is Adrian.

Reagan is just the sweetest and nicest FMC ever. She is a proud believer in chicks before d1cks, but it turns out her best friend is kind of a jerk. I hated Abby so much. She brought a lot of the toxicity to this book in the best way! All of her shenanigans just had me rooting harder for Adrian and Reagan. Honestly, I think we all kinda know someone like Abby who parades herself as your best friend, but it really just a snake in the grass.

Adrian was not having any of Abby’s shenanigans. He was direct and relentless (in a sexy way) in his pursuit of Reagan. I loved him so much. We all know this author knows how to bring the k1nky spice and this book was no exception. It was super hot and included br33ding, s0mn0, and CNC.

Adrain’s is Callie’s (The Night Cap) youngest brother, and it was nice getting to see those characters again especially Dammy!

I can’t wait to see what this author releases next!

Us girls need a man who won't give up and actually put up a fight. And Adrian is that man! He may be pushy and overbearing at times but that's what makes him unique.

Adrian and Reagan's chemistry is off the charts. When they instantly connected at a party, they knew they wanted to explore it more. But one tiny problem, he slept with her best friend, and she's pissed. Reagan's friend, Abby pissed me off so much. Like if she really is your best friend, you would want her to be happy no matter what, not tear her down and keep her away from something that brings joy. But Abby is a selfish b***h, only caring about her feelings and never Reagan's. Then in swoops Adrian, someone who doesn't know how to back down. The stalking may be a little creepy but he protective of her in a sweet messed up kind of way.

I'm glad Adrain pushed Reagan when he had to because without the little extra push they wouldn't be happy together. Adrain looks like your typical bad guy, but has the heart of a gentleman, and a mouth of a devil. A very appealing sexy devil. Some of the things he says and does...wow. And Reagan may be reserved at first but the more she's with Adrain the more she opens up. She finds herself in ways she didn't even know.

P.S. I loved the little cross over of Adrain's family who we also met in The Night Cap. If you've read that book the FMC Callie is Adrain's sister.

frustratingly amazing

I was so freaking angry at the FMC most of this book but that’s what made it so good. Because I understand all of the choices she made. Especially as a freshman in college far away from home with only one friend from back home(who was the worst). I understood her sense of loyalty to Abby even though she did not deserve it. Rae was the most realistic FMC I’ve read about in awhile, especially for being written as an 18/19 Y.O. Usually they’re written like someone in their 20’s or 30’s or they’re written like a freshman in high school instead of college. So I appreciated how Rae was written, even if she was so frustrating.
Adrian, the MMC, was one of the best book boyfriends I’ve read. He was perfectly obsessed with Rae and everything he did from the moment he met her was geared towards how much he loved her. I loved him and I wanted more and more of him and his obsession with Rae.
The spice! It was incredible. This was my first Octavia Jensen book & it will not be the last.

Reagan and Aiden met at a party, but they are off limits to each other, as Aiden previously hooked up with Reagan’s best friend Abby. This doesn’t stop their attraction, but Reagan tries to be loyal to her friend by staying away from Aiden. Aiden, however, is smitten with Abby, and though he respects her wishes, can’t really stay away from Reagan or stop thinking about her. He puts himself in her atmosphere, calling her when he needs help, and he tries his best to convince her that they’re perfect for each other. Reagan has her moments where she doubts her friendship with Abby, especially as Abby shows her true colors, being someone who is careless and manipulative.

Honestly, all the characters in here are toxic for each other, which is true to their ages (college level). There is definitely an obsessive and over the top component to Aiden, so dark romance lovers will really enjoy him. I like Reagan’s transformation and her realization about friendships; it speaks to an honest hardship of growing up and saying goodbye to what doesn’t benefit you.

The opening chapters were hilarious. It certainly drew me into the story and created the foundation for the rest of the plot.

I loved the relationship between Adrian and his siblings. I love how they have each other’s backs.
I also enjoyed the relationship between Rea and her brother too.

It has elements of dark romance but nothing too heavy. It just seemed a bit for college students. There was a lot of angst and it was fun to read at first but it waned and I just wanted to see the end of the book. I felt at some point the story lost its momentum and we were just on auto cruise to the end.

Rea appeared all too loyal and I wanted to smack her. But she redeemed herself and that was good character development.

I enjoyed the epilogues and the interesting facts about lost ships and marine archaeology.

If you love dark college romance where the MMC falls first then you will love this.

I received an advanced copy and the review is entirely mine.

“Break Me Twice” is a taboo college romance featuring Adrian and Reagan, two people who absolutely should not want each other, but fall in love anyway. This book had a lot of drama and angst, but it also had me hooked from the very beginning. Adrian and Rea were definitely a little toxic, but Jensen’s writing is so addicting that you end up not even caring. A good stalker romance is absolutely my cup of tea, and while Adrian made mistakes, I could also really see that he truly cared about Rea. And Rea! She struggled with so many emotions when it came to Adrian at times, but it just proved how kindhearted and loyal she was. I’m happy with how the book ended, and I would definitely recommend it!

I loved this book so much. The storyline was really hard to handle at times just knowing Abby was bad news and yet Reagan was a very loyal friend and tried so hard to keep the friendship. It just hurt my heart...

Reagan and Adrian were so cute together despite Ade being a whole flock of red flags. The way he loved her was toxic as heck but it was also so dang hot. I absolutely adored him, and them together.

The side characters in this world are the best. The Marino family is amazing, Jer, Ren and all of the archeological friends too. The couples can stand on their own, but the supporting cast makes the story so much more fun.

I'm so excited to start Xander's story. I love a good nanny romance, which I'm guessing is where we're heading.

While I understand Reagan's struggle to be a good friend while doing what's best for her, the back and forth was annoying. If she was going to stay away from him, fucking him every time she saw him was not going to help matters.

Abby was a bitch and a shitty friend. I feel like Reagan knew that and still wanted to be a good friend to her. That's admirable, but in this situation, Abby was making ridiculous demands. 🙄 As much as Reagan demanded Adrian apologize and make his feelings clear, she should have also had a sit down with Abby and called her on her bullshit and admitted how she felt about Adrian.

Such an amazing read! Adrian is so sweet and patient, even if a little bit stalker. Reagan was an amazing friend, for someone who did NOT deserve it (and the undeserved got her karma) and Adrian was still patient through her and supported her passions even though he could not have her all the way, and it was so adorable. The spice was WHEW! I loved the spice and steam, and how Reagan and Adrian were perfect for each other. Amazing read!

Wow what a piece of chefs kiss. This story is hands down smut appreciated and the angst read that has a little bit of sweetness added. This book is a standalone and ends with a HEA.

Let me start by saying Octavia Jensen is a must-buy author for me, so I was expecting to love this book... Well, my hopes were nothing: I just adooooore this book! It was even more perfect than I expected! Reagan and Adrian may have flaws, and their relationship might be a tad toxic, but they're perfect for each other!!! I love how Adrian knew from the start that they had something special, and I hated Abby from the first time she was introduced... I want my own Adrian! He's so OTT/JP! In real life, I might be scared, but in this book, I swooned... 😉
The push and pull between Reagan and Adrian was top-tier! I couldn't help but root for them through all the büllsh*t they had to deal with. I was so happy to see (super briefly!) Callie, Harvey and Dammy from The Night Cap, although you don't need to read it to enjoy Break Me Twice!

Overall, I'm sure you understand that I can only strongly recommend this awesome book to you! Just know that these characters are beautifully flawed, but that's what makes a good story, doesn't it?!

Couldn’t get over how fake the FMC was

I’m sorry but it’s ok to be a brunette but no, the author wanted to reinforce that blonde is better by making her brunette character dye her hair so she could be pretty. Really? We don’t have enough blondes as it is?

Break Me...

I didn't think anything would top the steamy goodness of my first trip to Blackridge, but I was wrong.

This book will definitely make you want to take a closer look at friendships and how one-sided they can be. Reagan's "best friend", Abby is a mean girl from the start and Reagan tries to deny her feelings for Adrian to pacify Abby's jealousy.

Adrian and Reagan may have had to keep their relationship secret for a while, but that didn't stop the fireworks from exploding everything they were around each other.

And Adrian... If you want to read about a guy that is head over heals in love with his girl while being possessive, obsessive, and has a few dark and dirty fantasies that she lets him live out... this book is your jam.

The only reason that this book gets one star is because of the spicy scenes. Loved the kinks. Loved Adrian.

Reagan is the stupidest c*ntiest FMC I have ever read. She makes a big deal because her terrible best friend slept with a borderline black out guy? She thinks she has some weird fucking claim on him. It’s so weird and stupid and juvenile. My best friend would NEVER.

SHE DIDNT EVEN HAVE TO FUCKING GROVEL!!!!!

Fuck this book. Love the author but fuck this book.

Reagan and Adrian met at a university party and connected instantly. The problem is that Adrian had a one-night stand with Rea's friend and this "friend" decided that Adrian is all hers. 🙄. And she accepts, so as not to lose the "friendship".

But Adrian doesn't accept it, lol. Completely infatuated with Reagan, Adrian goes into stalker mode and stalks her until she can no longer resist. At least when they're sneaking around (or think they are).

What a delightful read. This couple exudes radioactivity, I loved it. They are toxic and delicious together. Octavia has a gift for putting such strong chemistry between her characters that you feel it through the pages.

In fact, I think you'll agree with me that this was totally a case of mister before sister. 😂

Adrian is completely in love with Rea, he has eyes for no one else. In fact, I found his problematical manner quite amusing, it made me laugh out loud.

They spend a good part of the book in that tension of wanting each other and it being "forbidden", and when the 🌶️ finally happens, it's dirty and kinky and full of dirty talking - from both of them. I LOVE the dirty talking in Octavia's books, I really do.

Oh, those of you who have read The Night Cap ( I highly recommend it) will recognize Adrian. He's Callie's younger brother, and the whole family makes an appearance here. Another of Octavia's talents: writing entire families that you'll fall in love with. 🥹
