Possessive Love

Curiosity Caught the Demon

Rate this book
He pulled me into his world by mistake. Now I’m trying like hell to bring him into mine.

It’s hard to surprise Gremory. He’s been around for millennia, after all. But when this Duke of Hell is accidentally summoned by Scotty, the big-hearted owner of a struggling antique shop, he realizes there are still people in the world who can provoke his curiosity.

As Gremory lets himself get tangled up in human emotions and earthly delights, Scotty's big heart and quiet strength become irresistible. What started out as strictly business will blossom into a connection that will stretch the laws of Heaven, Hell, and the local village council.

From witty banter to steamy encounters to the genuine joy two kindred souls find when they work toward a common goal, their relationship will push them farther than they ever expected to go. Sparks will fly, but will they be able to save Scotty’s shop in time for the town’s annual Halloween Festival?

CURIOSITY CAUGHT THE DEMON is a low-angst, small-town, sweet-with-heat romance between a young man and an ancient demon. Expect hot tea, raging infernos, dreams coming true, and a decent amount of sinning. It's part of the POSSESSIVE LOVE anthology series, but it has a self-contained story and can be read as a standalone. 53000 words.

Having lived in Miami, Chicago, and NYC, Travis eventually ended up twenty minutes from where he was born, in Nowhere, Virginia, where the days are quiet and the stars are bright. He shares a big old farmhouse with his unbelievably supportive husband, a terrorist cat, and the world’s most neurotic dog.

He's nerdy about lots of things, including but not limited to classical rhetoric, the lives of the saints, Egyptian mythology, Shakespeare, contemporary fantasy, and the Muppets. Nevertheless, he is fun at parties.

He likes rainy days, long drives, and cuddling. He drinks more coffee than he ought.

Though it sometimes contains more plot and character development than is strictly necessary, he gets off on writing filthy gay erotica, usually with a light-to-moderate D/s edge.

He's active on Twitter (@beaudoin_travis) and checks Goodreads when he remembers to. Say hi if you're so inclined.

A very sweet, low drama love story between a man and a demon. The story wasn’t bad, but lacked that deeply emotional pull I’ve enjoyed from this authors other stories.

I loved the ending. All the stars for that beautiful ending!

Not a bad book and I’ll probably pick up this author’s next book, I like his style but my God this was boring AF. I struggled to stay awake, to keep reading about Scotty and the sappy demon but I give up, I’d rather take a nap instead. No rating because it’s not bad if you like cute, innocent shy guys and sappy demons, low angst and sweetness overload. Oh, and Halloween.

This book is different. A strangely beautiful story. I like the way it is told best. A demon who speaks directly to the reader and explains how he sees and perceives things. Definitely an interesting approach and something different.
The story and the plot were also well done.
The relationship between Gremory and Scotty is the odd element to the whole thing. I think it's all very beautiful, I'm just not 100 percent convinced. But that's probably just me.
I love fantasy, so I'm surprised that the fantastic elements, for example when the two have sex, didn't appeal to me. Very strange, but maybe that's really me, maybe I just didn't have the necessary imagination today.
But there aren't that many scenes of this kind, so it's not so bad. On the other hand, there are also a few swoon-worthy passages.

I had every pleasure in the cosmos available to me, but I could think of nothing more wonderful than waking beside him, watching him stretch his muscles and blink his sleepy eyes. 🫠💖🫠

It's also a bit funny.

“I don’t know why I trust you, but you’re right. I do. Deep down, I don’t believe you’re an axe murderer.”
“No.” Whatever I’ve done, I’ve never used an axe.
🤭🪓🤭

In any case, I love the author's writing and the epilogue was the absolute icing of the cake in terms of perfectionism.

What a fun ride

First of all, if you’ve followed me for a while, you know Travis’s book Too Like The Lightning is one of my absolute favorite books.

Also, I may have been stalking him on social media waiting for a new book from him… he hasn’t written much but I’ve loved what he has.

I was REALLY curious how he would be writing PNR, especially a collaborative group of books like this.

I have never read a book like this, and that says a lot. The basic plot isn’t that unique but the way it was written 100% was.

❗️Spoilers ahead I’m not hiding. ❗️

It’s almost all from the demon’s perspective. I rarely like single perspective but I loved it in this instance, especially since the demon broke the fourth wall and spoke to the reader.

This had Travis’s poetic writing throughout. He managed to take a basic plot and make it 100% unique and special to him.

I absolutely love the various concepts of life after death. The various places people can end up after death. That what we as humans know of heaven and hell is propaganda.

This was so sweet and sexy with a little bit of drama. The concept of Heaven and hell so different. And the quality of writing better than 99% of the MM books I’ve read this year. I just enjoyed this ride and as always, can’t wait for more from him. I’m happy he’s one of the few authors who hasn’t disappointed me yet.

Really, my only complaint is the many parenthetical thoughts. It’s a bit of a pet peeve of mine, but like I said, in the grand scheme of writing and this book in general, I didn’t care all that much about it in the end. The rest of the book overrode it.

A world away from this author's Too Like the Lightning, in which the principals are a gardener and an academic and the emotions are raw. This one's a fundamentally light-hearted entertainment in which a villainous real estate developer is thwarted by the team of demon (a duke of Hell, no less) and junk-slash-antiques-shop owner. It's at its best when Gremory, the demon, lets the edges in his nature show and when he and Scotty are having fascinating demon-enabled sex.

For my taste, the story and the characterizations wound up too sweet and fluffy and I never got shot through the heart the way I did by Too Like the Lightning. But it was fun, for sure, and if it winds up earning the author a chunk of change via being one of the Possessive Love collection, fine. I think that comes off kind of grudging, but it isn't really, because if I ran the universe then TLtL would already have made him rich.

Not going to rate, because the writing was fine, and the story was OK, it just wasn't what I wanted. The demon was much softer and fluffier than I personally prefer my Dark Lords of the Underworld, and the whole thing was very slow and kind of boring. Might have worked better if I was in a different mood and had gone into it with different expectations.

Many, many thanks to Travis Beaudoin for the opportunity to read an ARC of this delightful book.
(Disclosure: Travis and I are social media mutuals and friendly over DMs)

This paranormal romance, told from the point of view of the demon, is something special, mostly because of the narrator. Gremory (a Duke of Hell when he's not meddling in the affairs of mortals) is so earnest in his desire to get us to understand what it is like to be a demon and how his existence is different from ours and also so amusing in the ways he tells us about it, often in intimate-feeling parenthetical asides. He falls in love with Scott without even noticing it, but his descriptions of the man who called him to earth are full of charming tells.

Gremory is not bound by human morality, but ends up acting well almost all of the time for other reasons. "(You’ll notice I wasn’t lying. I can if I want to. I’m a demon, after all. I just like seeing how close to the truth I can cut sometimes. Like a game.)" And he doesn't have to stay embodied, even when he's on the mortal plane, but he does, often for the sheer pleasure of standing next to Scotty, or for intimate little moments like drying the dishes while Scotty washes them.
And you'll be bopping along, all tea and coziness and running Scotty's antique shop, and then Gremory thinks something that makes it so clear that he's just not like us and would gladly do terrible, terrible things to protect Scotty (and yet doesn't) (mostly).

There's an external plot as well, a Hallmark-movie-style struggle to save Scotty's antique shop and the rest of the quaint little town from rapacious developers. It moves the story along well and the inevitable triumph over the baddies is satisfying, but it's not the main attraction for me. Neither is Scotty; his character is well-thought-out and a good guy, with a sad backstory and powerful motivations and an arc of real growth, but while I cheered him on along that path I'm not in love with him like I seem to be with Gremory.

Beaudoin makes good use of the possibilities of the paranormal. The sex scenes take full and creative advantage of Gremory's magical abilities. I won't give the details away, but the first one especially is different from anything I've read, an excellent creative choice on the author's part and quite moving, as well as forming a crucial part of Scotty's character arc and the relationship arc. And the final sex scene is nearly over-the-top burlesque, in a good way. Gremory's magic powers are critical to the plot and well thought out, and have limitations that keep them from being so big that they can immediately and totally fix any problem. The ideas of Heaven and Hell and the nature of demons are not the conventional Christian ones and I found them charming and interesting. (Gremory, of course, makes Hell sound like by far the better place to be.) The various diabolic locations we visit or hear about are beguiling otherworldly imaginings.

This is quite different from Beaudoin's first book, Too Like the Lightning, which was super evocative of place with occasionally melancholy character exploration. Where TLTL was serious and emotional, CCTD is light and playful and sometimes poignant This book succeeds admirably on its own terms -- I had a gentle smile on my face almost the whole time I was reading it and laughed out loud more than once. Basically, it's a fucking delight. Highly recommended.

I'm not crying. you're crying in the most beautiful sould satisfying way. This was my first book by this author, and if he writes in this beautiful poetic sort of way always, he now will have a fan for life.
The book is written from Gremory (the demons pov) and omg the humor is subtle and delightful that just draws you in, he was brought to earth by a wish from Scotty (not on purpose, mind you) to give him hope in saving his antique shop after his grandma's passing. The two are immediately drawn together, and Gremory does all that he can to build up Scotty to he the man he was always meant to be. Their relationship is just easy and beautiful.
The ending is just one of those that will stay with you as sad but not sad and all so satisfying, truly a remarkable read.

I don’t know whether this was the author’s intention but this MM paranormal romance reminded me of The Screwtape Letters by CS Lewis. Except in this case the book is completely on the side of the demon. Gremory the demon addresses the reader throughout, pointing out what we’ve gotten wrong about Hell and what’s propaganda from Heaven. While this is very much a contemporary paranormal, it has a similar old world feel of Heart of Stone by Johannes T. Evans.

Gremory is inadvertently called to earth by Scotty, a grieving antiquarian who worries his brother and father will take the store away from him. Gremory agrees to aid him. I really enjoyed seeing what this aid entailed and how working together brought the two closer together. Where the plot faltered for me was the way it handled Scotty’s brother Ryan and his scheming lover Coral. Since Gremory isn’t allowed to respond to their nefarious plans demon-style…they just kind of forget that there’s a very real threat against the antique store. And then toward the end, there’s an over the top response from the villains and yet Scotty was too perfect and angelic to be real. I wanted more of Gremory being unleashed and more demon meta-commentary. The soul sex was interesting at least!

Characters: Scotty is a 26 year old gay white antiquarian and redhead. Gremory is a 1000+ year old demon duke. (Gremory assumes the form of a man while he’s on earth but it’s not clear if demons have a specific gender or sexuality.)This is set in Mystic Cove, somewhere on the East Coast.

Content notes: , arson fire, toxic brother, homophobia, infidelity (secondary characters), recent death of Scotty’s grandmother (heart attack), consensual possession, body dysmorphia, past death of Scotty’s mom, on page sex, edging, soul sex, alcohol, inebriation (secondary character), casual ableism, casual acephobia, gender essentialism, ableist language

Do you know these books you just don’t want to end? You look at the pages and see ‚oh no only 50 pages left‘. This one was the opposite.
I was bored out of my mind and the constant 4th wall breaking annoyed the hell (heh) out of me.

There are better ones in this series. Not recommended.

Scotty & Gremory
Rating: 4.1 ⭐

- Paranormal
- Demon Romance
- Duke of Hell/Antique Shop Owner
- Small Town

This story is told from Gremory’s (Demon) point of view until the epilogue which is Scotty’s. Reading how he sees Hell and all its parts was fun because you got to read some new descriptions that you don’t normally get about its setup and landscapes. You also get some snark about the Heaven and Hell propaganda plots.

Gremory is a Duke of Hell who feels a strong summoning pull. He normally ignores these pulls and has his lower-level demons handle deals but this feels intriguing. When he materializes on a beach, he spots a beautiful man with a pure soul that he is instantly drawn to. Scotty has recently lost his grandma, who owned the antique store that he lives and works in. There was no will left so his father now owns the store, leaving Scotty’s future in limbo especially if the store is sold like his brother is pushing for. On a dark night on the beach, Scotty makes a wish on a shooting star and then meets a stranger that he is instantly comfortable with, feels safe with and here he tells Gremory all his troubles and future worries. Gremory makes a deal with Scotty to help save his store and his happiness, all for the pleasure it brings him. At this point, Scotty has no idea he is talking to a demon and honestly thinks the whole encounter is a dream. When Gremory shows up the next morning with new items for his store, everything changes.

Gremory loves helping with the store and spending time with Scotty. He starts to get all these new human feelings that he usually avoids with a contract but he doesn’t shy away from his feelings, which is refreshing. He even likes doing work without using his magic, even though he could easily get things done with it in a blink. The descriptions of how Gremory creates a body or how he leaves the body to become his usual spirit form is new and a cool concept. Scotty is a softy and consistently forgives those who don’t really deserve it. He is forever protecting his family, even if they don’t protect him in return. Gremory is determined to protect Scotty from the people trying to take his store from him. He has so many devious plans to handle them as the story goes on but he knows Scotty will only allow him so much torment and definitely no deaths, unfortunately. One thing that really irked me was that Scotty never let Gremory truly get his vengeance that he had all planned out at the end. I wanted to see them get theirs as well, especially with a demon helping make it happen! This seriously would have gotten another star just for fixing this miss, even if I understand not doing it to keep the whole sweet pure soul vibe for Scotty and him making Gremory a better demon. Still though…

This was a sweet romance that develops between these two and how they get their HEA is the best way this could have ended. Scotty was never scared of Gremory and always expressed his trust in his demon, no matter what.

DNF at 61% on 6th Aug 2025. Such a disappointing book. There's nothing i liked about this book except maybe the shop. The demon not having a body was the main problem ig. Cuz that foreshadowed some weird hijinks which left a bad taste in my mouth.

i find it annoying that both Scotty and Gremory have this almost stuttering speech quality. They like to repeats words. Eg "It is.. It is something..." 🙄
Some parts were cute like how Gremory chose to float the two of them up to the roof as proof of him being a demon. It was romantic! They did some star gazing too.

But the feelings developed a bit quickly but not insta love. More insta like. i liked the concept of final resting places being other than just the christian binaries. But i think now i've read several books where hell & heaven are seen as corporations and am thinking is that an american thing?

There's an MF scene of a side character kissing his boss. A pathetic act of cheating.

i mean there are some high concepts dealt with, like soul merging, possessions etc but the constant "you cannot possibly comprehend this' part got a bit insulting and boring. It's so fucking weird gtfo, brother. 🙄

Granted there were some tender loving moments between them. But i just didn't feel it. Not saying unconvincing romance, just saying i didn't care. It felt "otherworldly" hence lost the touch. Some grand gestures which were neither spicy nor captivating enough. It was very sanitised as if meant for the kiddies to read or something. Not for adults.

By the time they do do the deed, we know they've done it before so it ain't special. There's only 1 sex act that happened on page. So disappointing.

So then when on page spice comes along, guess what? Viola! They’re not real! Mumbo jumbo! What the fuck you means soul fucking?? This book has some high concept "love making" going on here like essence are going up e/o or like this soul fucking. But there's no actual spice in this book at all thus far and only has these weird things and concepts. Not interested.

“Your body isn’t real. And besides, you see how perfectly we mesh. I’m already in you, and you’re in me. This will just…make it complete.”

Then this line comes up n it's such a mood killer. We're not witnessing real sex, people, then why are they doing it in the first place?? For the sake of philosophy?? It got to the spice but then this completely botched it. And so, bcuz of high and mighty concept, we do not get the privilege to read about the receiver reacting to sex, like the lowly sex fiends that we are. Oh no, God forbid a soul moans or groans! That there be a sweet intimacy between the 2 beings. But alas the receiver is as mute as possible.. Nope. Not happening. i don't care for the story so here i rest my case. It's so fucking weird gtfo.

Curiosity Caught the Demon by Travis Beaudoin

« ARC REVIEW »

Curiosity Caught the Demon by Travis Beaudoin is part of a multi-author series, Possessive Love, but can be read as a standalone.

« demon x human »
« ancient Duke demon »
« small town »
« low angst »
« soul touching »
« so much sweetness »
« single and first person POV »
« HEA »

Travis Beaudoin is a new author for me – this is the first book I have read by this author. I usually prefer dual POV, so I was surprised how much I didn’t mind that this story was told from first person POV of Gremory, who is a duke of hell. I think that this was due to Travis’ unique writing style – it drew me in how he was speaking directly to the reader. The authors take on this type of demon was truly unique and far different than any of the others from this series. In this series we see different demons with different abilities and bodies, but they often have monster-like qualities, so Travis’ take was quite refreshing.

Scotty’s desperation, desire, and want due to his current situation called to Gremory. Typically, a job like this would be left to a lesser demon, as he is a duke of hell, this job was beneath him, but something about Scotty and his soul that Gremory was drawn to. Soon, this wasn’t a job to Gremory, he just wanted to be with Scotty and do whatever it took to make Scotty happy. I will say that the storyline itself isn’t that complicated, adventurous, or overall engaging. I felt like this story was more character driven than plot, but I think that was okay. We get a real sense of who the characters are and the strong feelings and pull Gremory and Scotty have towards each other. There were so many sweet and tender moments between the couple. In my opinion, this story was pretty low in the spice department, I would say it’s more sweet than spicy. There was sweetness galore – the ending was one of the sweetest I have read in a long time. Truly so sweet it could give you a tooth ache!

The only real negative for me is that I didn’t really get “possessive” vibes from either MC which really doesn’t align with the series, so I was a little disappointment about that. Although the ending was really sweet and wonderful, I did feel like the story ended quite abruptly and everything was resolved almost too quickly. I also wished for a little more spice.

I did enjoy this paranormal romance that was low angst, full of sweet and tender moments, and a guaranteed HEA. It was very cute, but not my favorite from the series.

I liked it but didn’t love it. too much as told too for me

Rating: 3.25🌈

Travis Beaudoin is another new to me author and I liked his story in the Possessive Love collection.

But I didn’t love it. Or emotionally connect with the characters. And I think that’s due to manner in which the first person point of view was written. The author had the main character addressing the reader directly which has the effect of throwing the reader out of the immediate situation or context. In the many scenes , it felt “as told to” because Gremory the Prince of Hell ended up describing the actions he had taken/would take to the reader or his boyfriend, Scotty Campbell.

That distance from the source of the drama kept me from “seeing” what was happening in real time. It removes the reader from the actual events, disconnecting us because we are listening to Gremory’s thoughts or conversations. If it’s a conversation, the demon is editing it to accommodate his human’s feelings and needs. So Scotty and us are getting a tame PG or milder version than what you would expect from a demon Prince bent on revenge and a bit of destruction.

Same goes for the relationship. It’s PG 13, while there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s hard for me to reconcile that with a demon prince who’s decided on a mate and course of action.

So I feel the potential for a deeper, more complex relationship and storyline exists here (the Curiosity shop is well done, with lovely touches like the photos with Scotty and his grandmother). But it’s never fully realized and in most cases, that potential is lost.

A two person pov might have been better to see a wider picture. I’m not talking about the weird body sharing as that raised more questions than it answered.

But it had some interesting elements and neat details that make it stand out.

Look, I'll be honest. I was pretty sure I would give this book a five star before I even began it. I've reviewed this author several times before and I have a pretty good handle on his writing style at this point. (A lot of gay pining and references to classic literature.) So when he offered me a copy of this one, it was an obvious yes.

While I usually prefer my romances to be dual POV, I did love that we got to see so much of Grem's point of view throughout the book. He breaks the fourth wall constantly, trying in vain to explain demonic things to the reader. Like how the stories of hell are all propaganda or how to feel something without actually having a body. I particularly enjoyed the descriptions of hell. Even for someone that doesn't usually vibe with surreal settings, the descriptions of "hell" felt otherworldly in a way I haven't seen in awhile.

What really stood out to me were the sex scenes. I've joked with the author before about his love of fluids, but this was something else entirely. Every steamy scene in the book (save for maybe a very short one in the prologue) was heavily paranormal. It was like the author was determined to use every facet of Grem's powers for naughty ends. Even a demonic possession became highly erotic. I will admit, though, that the idea of getting it on while hovering in the air was distracting. I kept thinking "what if they fall??"

Normally, when a romance book was this short I would say something about how the relationship just didn't feel well built enough for me. I'm a notorious slow burn girlie when it comes to romance. But like I mentioned before, Travis knows his way around potent gay longing. Feelings are there from the get go and it doesn't take a lot to grow them. The couple's dynamic becomes apparent very quickly.

As for the actual plot involving Scott's store, it reads as a classic Hallmark movie. Just... you know... with a demon. (Seriously though, Hallmark should try that.) Quaint small town businesses owned by the locals threatened by greedy bankers ready to sell it all off to become chain store fronts. I do like the added narrative of how to deal with your enemies. Gremory and Scott differ greatly on the idea of revenge.

All in all, a fantastic cozy read filled with all the small town charm and demon pining you could want.

Just… Wow!! This was my first book by this author and I’m not sure what I was blown away by with more. The story itself, the style of the writing, or the creativity. I devoured this book as Gremory and Scotty are a delightful couple that makes reality seem hopeful and hell seem almost like something to look forward to.

I have never, in the few demon books I’ve read, had Hell seem so inviting. And a prince of a demon be more demon but sweet like in his love for his human. Gremory was the perfect partner if you could ever find one like him in actual human form. He loves Scotty fiercely and Scotty falls for him almost just as fast. But it seems to take them a bit to click in. I think the reader can feel it on the pages long before the characters realize it themselves. Until that one ah-ha moment that gradually comes to them.

Scotty is struggling to save his grandma’s antique store, which he suddenly lost, so he unbeknownst to him, summons a demon. Now, he doesn’t do it the traditional way as this book shows over and over again how the underworld works. This story was everything an MM romance is but so many things added in that it’s not. So many unexpected delights and descriptions that I absolutely loved. It made the story fun and exciting having no idea what was coming or how it would fall out in the end. I mean, you do know but you don’t. The side characters play a great role but the MCs dominate most of the story but it was never too much. Never!

This was my first book by this author so I have nothing else of his to compare it to. That said, I absolutely loved how he wrote this book. It was so personal how it completely brought the reader into the story with the characters. The story was so imaginative and detailed that I never imagined heaven and hell being anything more than what we’ve been traditionally told. But this story almost makes Hell inviting. It was the most interesting Demon read I’ve come across yet.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️
Tropes: demon x human, unintentional summoning, small town, the purest of souls
Review:
This was, from the get-go, such a fascinating story and premise. I loved that we don't have the normal take on demons or the afterlife, and that we have the whole story from the POV of our demon, Gremory. The fact that his existence is best described as a soul, and that his experience of existence is something that cannot be understood or explained in human words, but we have a lot of ways that it is alluded to so that us, the 'human' readers, might have a better understanding of what his story and experience is like, was really fascinating. The way that he manipulated physics, and how it made sense internally, was also really appreciated. The actual plot of Scott's shop and his desire for help was definitely interesting, but for me the highlight was definitely the lore of this universe, and how things existed in ways that are so beyond what humans experience. I loved both Scott and Gremory, and their relationship developed nicely, if not rather subtly as opposed to so overtly shown. The ways that they interacted as humans, as souls, and with the various ways of possession that are possible in this story, it was all sweet and caring and awesome (the original meaning of that word). The various ways that they could make love to either the other's body or their soul was sweet and very interesting, and I loved that we got to see them at the end of their body's lives was also interesting too. It kind of reminds you that your soul really never ages, just the vessel that it's in, and I found it kind of thought-provoking too. I definitely recommend this story, if not for the relationship and plot, then at least for the fascinating world building and ideas in this story.

Curiosity Caught the Demon is a standalone romance by (new-to-me) author Travis Beaudoin. I'm a fan of MM paranormal romances, so while that did draw me to the book, what really did it for me was, after reading the blurb, I immediately thought of the hilarious short story by TJ Klune called Blasphemy! Of course, I knew that they were nothing alike, but the vibe was similar enough to catch me.

The story is told in the first person from the POV of Gremory, a demon and a duke of hell. He doesn't normally feel the pull to help humans on Earth, but when the pull was felt he didn't ignore it. And ultimately, that was probably the best decision he's made in over a thousand years. When he materialises on a beach, he finds a human named Scott. Scott is distressed. He is grieving after the death of his beloved grandmother a few months ago, and the threat to his livelihood from his father and brother, who have no care for the grandmother's legacy. Gremory immediately gets onto to helping Scott. It's from here that we get a sweet small town romance, around all the demon and paranormal aspect.

Gremory's POV is really easy to read, I sometimes find it difficult to connect with book written in the first person, but this was really nice. He seems to have endless kindness and compassion, especially where Scott is concerned. The demon's voice has a feel of fascination towards humans, especially Scott, that helps to bring the sweetness as the romance builds. His voice when he talks about Hell and the wonderous lands that come with his title is passionate.

I absolutely adored the ending, a perfect HEA for two fantastic characters.

'Curiosity Caught the Demon' (Possive Love)
by Travis Beaudoin

'Ye gods & little fishes!' Loved it! One of my fave books this year!

Things I liked about this storyline:
The inner dialogue of the demon, Gremory, especially his 'breaking of the 4th wall' (by speaking directly to the reader/audience). I hear some people don't like that, but I thought it was very entertaining!

Besides that, that dude was funny! I burst into laughter numerous times, throughout this whole escapade!

Quote: "I've been a bat before, and an owl. I once spent three solid months living as a dog, just for fun. It really is AMAZING how much you humans have accomplished, considering how mediocre your ears are."

The romance between Scotty (the human) and Gremory (the demon) was very sensual and sweet. Especially liked how Gremory showed Scotty all the differences in religious propagandas and truths.

The author's views of Hell & Heaven, and other realities, are wonderfully creative and refreshingly different from Christian-oriented religious tropes. They're more akin to Asian spiritual belief systems, like for instance, various Japanese spiritual beliefs include at least 18 levels of 'Hells', as does Tibetan Buddhism and Bön, and others, none of which are permanent situations and all are redeemable through Karma; it's very enlightening!

(not dissing Christianity, just pointing out differences in belief systems)

Parts of this storyline are hilarious, and parts really sad. (you'll have to read it to find out more; it's a great tale!)

Beaudoin is a new author for me and, based on this book, I'll be wanting to read a lot more!

(Note: I read this a while ago but have been super busy, so just getting down to doing a bunch of reviews lately)

Two thumbs up! 👍👍

Scotty's life seems to be crumbling around him and on a whim, he wishes on a shooting star for help which brings him Gremory, a demon who is willing to help him get everything he desires. Little do either of them realize that the shooting star would change both of their lives, forever.

Scotty and Gremory's story was a magical journey that captivated and enthralled, making it difficult to put the book down. Their connection was so instant that you could feel on a molecular level allowing for a sentual growth in their relationship and the eventual pairing of their souls for eternity.

"𝑺𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒚, 𝒔𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒅𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒏."

This was my first book by Travis Beaudoin and will not be my last as his way of telling a story glued me to the pages of the book and held me captive even with it being a single narrative which I usually struggle with.

Get ready for…

MM | Paranormal | Supernatural (Demon) | Demon/Human | Small Town | Opposites Attract | First-Person POV (Single) | HEA

Be mindful that this book contains cheating (side characters).

Curiosity Caught the Demon by Travis Beaudoin
Possessive Love, multi-author series

“I want to stay here with you, and let my body grow old beside yours. I want to laugh with you and take care of you. I want to eat the food you prepare and dry the dishes you wash. I want to walk on the beach with you, even in the autumn when we have to cling to each other for warmth. And when you’ve lived out your days and lie down for the last time, I want to know that—for us—death is not the end. I want to be at your side forever, Scotty. Forever.”

Scott’s need and sadness is an unusually intense pull that makes Gremory investigate the human whose tug on him is so strong he can feel it from the underworld. Gremory decides to stay and help Scotty with his Curiosity Shop and a nefarious plot afoot that could affect the entire village of Mystic Cove.

You know how demons are evil, torment sinners and collect innocent souls? Well, not in this version of Hell! The way Gremory and his Dukedom are described in the beginning of the book is so fascinating an just pulls you right into the story.

Gremory is the most cinnamon roll demon I’ve had he pleasure of reading about. All he wants to do is to help Scotty and protect him. Highly recommend another fantastic book in this fun series perfect for spooky month.

If you like reading about:

😈 Cinnamon roll demons
😈 Ginger haired hotties
😈 Cute small towns
😈 Meddling bankers
😈 Hot demonic schmexy times
😈 Eternal love

Then this book is for you!

'Every single one of you has heard a million of these little deal-with-the-devil stories, and—at least in the versions you know—they tend to end badly. I can’t just pop up, eyes flashing red, going Mwa-ha-ha-ha, the way a demon might do in some dumb cartoon. It puts people on edge. No. You have to play the long game. Folks like me have all the time in the world.'

I absolutely loved this book. From the very first page, I knew it would be a fun read. I like how the author wrote it- including the reader. It made Gremory all the more charming. And of course, drew me right into the story- like a confidant being brought along on this journey. I also loved that this [unintentional] demon summoning was from Gremory's point of view. In all the summoning stories I've read, it's always from the human's point of view, and suddenly there's this big, strong, usually scary-looking male suddenly standing there. This was refreshing and gentle and all the more intriguing because of it. I liked Scotty and his passion for his Gran's shop and trying to save it. I liked him learning the truth of Gremory being a demon and the dynamic of their relationship. They were so sweet to each other. And such a beautiful ending! These characters are perfect and I love the world of this story! I didn't want it to end.

This was the first book I've read by this author and I will definitely be reading more. 5 stars.

This was SUCH a delight! 😍 This is a new-to-me author and, frankly, I still don't know why I picked it up. I was initially excited for this multi-author series, but now that it's live, I keep... not reading it. None of the blurbs have really grabbed me, even the ones by my usual go-to authors who are participating, but for some reason last night I decided to give this one a try, and I'm so glad I did! It was just - *happy sigh* - lovely. Utterly lovely.

I'm normally not a huge fan of authors trying to take something familiar - a trope, a literary convention, a mythology (like, in this case, heaven and hell) - and inverting it or putting an entirely new spin on it. But I think that's because so often, that shit feels forced and not true to good storytelling. THIS book, though...

😍😍😍

This story was just wonderful in every way, and I loved it far more than I expected to going in somewhat blind, which just makes how good it ended up being all the sweeter of a surprise. Scott was wonderful - both adorable and sweet but also very, very "real" feeling - and Gremory was the demon I didn't know this world needed.

tl;dr HIGHLY recommended, and I can totally see myself coming back to re-read this one a time or two in the future. All the stars!

I have not read a book that's been in a demon's POV that makes me feel as though it's real! The way Grem's character is written is really unique! In his pov he explains how he does not feel things the way humans do, he is made up of atoms, not flesh and bones. It was a really intriguing concept that just made me want to keep reading.

I really liked how Grem was a guardian angel of sorts, or rather, a guardian demon. He watched out for Scotty and tried his best to help the man keep his grandmother's shop. I also really appreciated the detail that went into describing all of the history behind some of the antiques that were being sold in the shop, that was really cool.

I thought the relationship itself between Grem and Scotty was a bit if a slow burn, they became close friends pretty quickly. Their romantic relationship slowly formed and developed over time.

Overall I thought this book was really fun to read, I've never read anything like it before. I definitely suggest that you should read this too!

I'm not going to lie, I'm a fan of Travis Beaudoin's writing. His novel, "Too Like the Lightning" is a sweet, touching story. "Curiosity Caught the Demon" has much of the same DNA - the main characters are charming and three-dimensional, and the antagonists are miserable people, but not mustache-twirling baddies. There is clever dialogue and a plot that moves with the momentum of the well-written and well-paced novel that Beaudoin has created.

Unlike the grounded sweetness of "Too Much...", "Curiosity..." is set in a world of magic, heaven, hell, demons, and angels. The flavor of the romance is just as sweet, but it's also different and unique to the characters in this story. And Beaudoin's imaginings of hell and demons are incredibly refreshing. The relationships feel real and fantasy-inspired all at once. Did I mention that this book is delightful and has an HEA? I did? Yeah, this is a perfect book to crawl inside when you need to escape from the current timeline, I strongly suggest "Curiosity Caught the Demon: An MM Paranormal Romance."

This is a new author to me and I enjoyed this book so much, I'll be looking for others by Travis.

This book is told from Gremory's pov, it is done in such an intriguing way that makes readers really feel included and still lets us know everything we need to about Scotty. Gremory definitely has a sense of humor too.
The pull between Scotty and Gremory was so palpable, you couldn't help but cheer for them to get together - which they do, spectacularly!
The emotions and heart in this book kept me captivated, and while there is some not so nice stuff that happens, it is really a beautiful story of two souls connecting in a totally unexpected and magical way.
There is also a really unique, brilliant imagining of Hell and those who dwell there. And I absolutely loved the epilogue.

I would definitely recommend this book, it is intriguing, entertaining, and full of so much heart.
