Nightwing's nightmare?

description

Grayson wakes up with no memory of how he ended up in Arkham, being manhandled by anthropomorphic doctors, nurses, orderlies, and guards.

description

He's killed someone (he can't remember who) and is at the asylum for treatment. But he might not survive the kind of treatment these animals are giving out. Meanwhile, the other inmates are handing out cryptic high-fives and his cellmate lives under his cot.
Something isn't right.

description

And then Babs shows up.

description

Alright. Let's see what happens in the next issue!

An interesting one here!

A little confusing in parts but this was very nightmarish so I quite enjoyed it. Some really interesting ideas.

Artwork added to the confusion, so I wish it had been cleaner. Some pretty pictures for sure but the styling was very jumbled in places so I really had no idea how to follow.

Overall, though, this was decent. Very curious about what's going on with him!

Nightwing is my favorite member of the batfam and scarecrow is my favorite rogue. It’s not for everyone but this comic of them hanging out was so fun for me. Sometimes the nightmare is the friends we make along the way

Beautiful. Great storytelling and of the more truly nightmarish artwork in the series so far.

Another one I'm mixed on, but rounding up for the thought provoking nature.

All of the cops, doctors, etc are animals. Nightwing and the "inmates" are not. Does this revive the argument that Arkham should not be widely used for criminals as a stand-in for Blackgate? Why is Nightwing at Arkham instead of Blackgate? I get that it's a nightmare thing, but DC has been trying to reframe Arkham as a mental institution and not a jail, so is this regression, or does all of this show us how Dick truly sees it, the staff, the patients, etc? Or is it how Insomnia is painting it as a way to remove Dick's humanity measure by measure? 🤔

Dick's so empathetic and kind that it'd be very out of character for him to see cops/guards as pigs and the Arkham staff as animals. The fact that everyone except those inside cells are animals is the most intriguing element to this issue. He sees Zasz and the others for who they are. In reality, one of Nightwing's many redeeming qualities is his ability to see people - all people. I really hope the animals mean something and I'm not overthinking it.

The blurb is misleading. It's the only one I've bothered to read, hoping maybe it'd reveal why they are animals. Professor Pyg comes to mind, but why? And it mentions nothing of Batman or the cyborg redhead. The art is odd. Good in places and not in others, but the colors are amazing. This is an interesting event.

“Issue #1” starts with Nightwing strapped down to a stretcher being wheeled through a building he vaguely recognizes. He is having a nightmare because of a villain named Insomnia.
Worst. Villain. Name. Evar.

He’s in Arkham Asylum. He is hosed down and thrown into a cell. He tries to sleep but dreams he’s wanted for murder and chased by animal-headed police.

So, parents as zombies, Two-Face next door, electroshock therapy, visions of killing Batman, Scarecrow as a roommate, visions of Batgirl being brought in and mutilated.

Another day at the office. Meh. Nothing new here. Nothing particularly interesting either.

The art however was good. I’d actually like to see this guy working on the Tom Taylor books. Daniele Di Nicuolo.

2 stars for the art

Okay. Sure. It's another one that doesn't make much sense overall. Like, he knows he's dreaming, he doesn't know... It's another cruel portrayal of an insane asylum (but that's just Gotham and knightmares for you) but like...Sure.
I still think that out of all the ones I've read so far, Superman's was the 'easiest' read because it made the most sense to me for the character, and then he also was able to figure out some of what was going on and I can see how the plot is going to progress by the end of it. Or at least a glimmer of how this should work out eventually.
Vs all these other things where it's like why. Who cares? and is that REALLY their biggest nightmare? really? Why would they even be afraid of that? Like this thing is weak.

I can't say that it's totally coherent for me, but I'm compelled by every panel of it.

For me, the main weakness of this is that it often doesn't feel very Nightwing-specific. Like, yes, some details are particular to him, but it all risks feeling like a story that could mostly be told with any protagonist (inside or outside of DC).

Though, honestly? If Dick DID do what everyone is accusing him of... I think I can be okay with that. (How much am I joking? Even I don't know.)

(I should note that I'm really only singularly catching up on Nightwing stories from this period at the moment, so maybe the Knight Terrors stuff in context is richer than it is for me with how I'm navigating DC.)

Part 1 of 2 (one of the many tie-ins to a larger story where a new villain named Insomnia has put everyone to sleep in order to find the Nightmare Stone)

Nightwing is captured and taken to Arkham. He has apparently killed someone, and this causes him to be a celebrity among the inmates. Put into a cell with the Scarecrow, Dick tries to find a way to escape, while trying to remember what he did/what they say he did.
P.S. Crane hiding under the bed is *chef kiss*

The concept of this series is interesting! Loving the art style too and how dark it is. Nightwing’s one of my favorite DC characters but, after reading this, I’m considering reading all the rest of the Night Terrors series!

It would’ve been a 5 star rating but the immersion breaks every time there’s an add for another project DC’s working on just slipped in. I wouldn’t mind there being a page or two in the back for that stuff, just not in the middle of the story. It’s annoying.

The way this story is presented is really dumb. Dick is wondering throughout the whole issue “OMG is this real??” but the problem is that they tell us at the very beginning that Insomnia put the whole planet to sleep and everyone is having nightmares, so where is the tension supposed to come from exactly…? I kinda figured this tie-in would be a wash without Tom Taylor at the helm.

Outstanding issue

Nightwing nightmare is in Arkham for killing Batman.
Although I have no idea why pigs dogs and mice are being used here.
Outstanding artwork and some great writing.

“Ask… Your mom what I did.”

Solid, solid so far. I like the way Nightwing is portrayed throughout this. We’re seeing some of that anger cracking through. Also I liked the mystery element of what did he do and why is everyone in Arkham so proud. Good stuff.

This is what all the Knight Terror books should be like. This was a proper nightmare. It was also about time that Scarecrow made a cameo, since he thrives on fear.
