The Pardon

Rate this book
A Soviet officer in Cuba during the Cold War. A crash strands him in America. A former ally turns his worst enemy. Can he survive and find a way home?

" Sometimes a book will haunt you after reading it. THE PARDON is that kind of book ."
Steve BROWN
Key Life — broadcaster, seminary professor, author

SUSPENSEFUL — THOUGHT-PROVOKING — CONSEQUENTIAL ... At the height of the Cold War, a plane crash strands a Soviet officer in America. Living among those he thought to be the enemy, he transforms into the capitalist he once fought against. His life is entangled with a merciless Cuban prosecutor out for revenge. Both men are torn between ideologies, save for their ever-hardening rejection of God.

THE PARDON is filled with action and uncompromised Christian truth ─ the story contrasts freedom and capitalism with the devastating realities of communism. The plot explores the consequences of human choices, spinning an intricate web of envy, treachery, life and death, and how God's search for man transcends all political and geographic boundaries.

"A masterful blend of fact, fiction, and faith — of history and a lesson for younger people of what Cuba’s 'paradise' and the true nature of Communism looks like."
Cal THOMAS

" THE PARDON is a real 'page-turner,' complete with twists and turns in the plot that makes it a rollicking good read!"

I had high hopes for this book as it combines two of my favorite genres (Christian + Historical Fiction) but it unfortunately fell flat. The writing was not overly well done, the plot line, although interesting, had many holes and was a thinly veiled way of sharing a very blatant message of the Gospel. The storyline was predictable and the personal bias and opinions of the author were very clear.

Not my favorite and would not recommend.

So many memories came to my mind in the journey through The Pardon!
Each page reflected the history of the Cuba in which I was born and raised.
This is a story, rich in its context, full of values, betrayals, deceptions and hope.
One where no detail was without God's providence.
A story where the author, carefully wove the events occurred; with an excellent narrative and a special description of the acts.
If you are searching for a good story, rich in diverse literally genres and one that will keep you in suspense from beginning to end, The Pardon is it! You won’t want to miss it!

The Pardon by Rodney Powell is the kind of book that makes it hard not to go to the next chapter. You will find yourself immersed into the suspense and adventure that the characters go through. The story beautifully presents the lives of people of all different walks of life during the time of the Soviets. You won’t want to miss this wonderful tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last page. Make this your next read!

If you are looking for a fiction book that poses a strong gospel message while offering a nail-biting tale full of adventure, history, and dynamic characters... this is your next read! Tragedy, betrayal, revenge, and redemption are woven together to create a story you won't soon forget. Highly recommend! Looking forward to the release of the sequel, The Ransom.

The Pardon is an adventurous ride through Cuba, Russia, Jamaica, and the US during the Cold War era. The historical settings and locations are so vivid it’s amazing the author isn’t a native Cuban.
Mr. Powell presents the good news of the gospel through one of the side characters but not in a stilted, preachy way. And it’s evident how God’s sovereignty plays out in the whole story.
There are complex, flawed characters throughout, in which you get invested. That being said, I’m so glad there’s a sequel and can’t wait to read it!
