A heat wave that won’t quit. A grisly murder. When the community turns on the resident witches, all hell threatens to break loose. In the death throes of an endless summer, tempers ignite when a suspicious death rocks the mountain town of Shadow Cove. The primary suspect is Axel, the personal assistant to Bella Sanders and the love interest of her twin sister Donna.
How well do the sisters know Axel? His origins are shrouded in mystery, and his abilities are the stuff of legend. The question of his innocence compels the twins down different roads and tests their faith in their magic and the limits of their hearts. Will the sisters come together to help stop an unstoppable killer?

USA Today bestselling author Jennifer L. Hart writes about characters that cuss, get naked, and often make poor but hilarious life choices. A native New Yorker, Jenn now lives in the mountains of North Carolina with her imaginary friends. Her works to date include the Cougars and Cauldrons series, the Silver Sisters series and the upcoming Legcay Witches of Shadow Cove.
I enjoyed this book but thought it focussed more on the sisters love lives than on the mystery of the missing girl. It's still a good listen but I preferred book one, as there seemed more action and less steamy sex scenes. The story is very character driven and each chapter follows one of the sisters, as they struggle to save or get rid of Axel. This works well as you know what both sisters are thinking and it adds to the drama. I love listening about both sisters and their chosen mates, although this book is more focused on Donna and Axel. The demon getting left to babysit the babies added some humour, just picturing it. Towards the end of the book the action and magic picks up and gets a lot more interesting. I can't wait to see what's next in store for the Sanders family. An old girlfriend of Axel's goes missing near there property, dividing the Sanders sisters. Bella hasn't trusted her assistant ever since she learned he was a they and will do anything to get rid of him and keep her family safe. Especially when she learns she isn't the only woman from his last to have disappeared. Can she save her sister from herself? Donna doesn't believe Axel is capable of harming anyone and in fact she thinks she is slowly falling in love with the much younger man. If she can only trust herself to trust him. As well as the missing girl, two furys ask for help finding there missing sister, a sister that Axel might have a connection to. A connection that might mean his death, can Donna save him? And prove his innocence? Or with the sisters divided is it the perfect time for there enemy to strike? I like the narrator. She does some good male and female voices, which helps the story flow nicely and keeps it entertaining. I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
A love through the ages I love this series and the way this story started off, giving us an insight into Donna and Axel’s lives. This is book two of the Legacy Witches of Shadow Cove and follows the growing relationship between Donna and Axel that started to form in book one. Donna’s sister Bella however can’t seem to trust Axel anymore and tries to interfere. With evil on their doorstep will Bella and Donna, the demon and the fury be able to come together to solve who / what is attacking them and save themselves? Will Donna and Axel realise who they are to each other? Danger, violence, old enemies, bargains struck and growing relationships for the two sisters made this a wonderful story that I loved and thoroughly enjoyed. I also loved the narration, Jacqueline Rendell is a pleasure to listen to and has the perfect voice for all of Jennifer’s stories.
A sizzling supernatural mystery set in a town where the heat wave isn’t the only thing threatening to boil over. Bella and Donna Sanders—twin witches in their forties—face murder, magic, and romantic turmoil when suspicion falls on Axel, a man with legendary powers and a complicated past.
The story is fast-paced and atmospheric, with steamy romance and plenty of magical intrigue. Hart knows how to build tension and keep readers hooked.
The drawback? For midlife heroines, the sisters often communicate like twenty-somethings—misunderstanding each other and letting petty conflicts fester. It’s frustrating at times, especially for readers who come to midlife fiction hoping for more emotional maturity.
Still, Midlife Magic Monster is a fun, engaging read with strong world-building and high stakes. If you enjoy paranormal drama with Gen-X leads, this one’s worth your time.
Jennifer L. Hart's Midlife Magic Monster is the second of the Sanders Sisters books from the Legacy Witches of Shadow Cove series. Book two finds Donna and Bella navigating their relationships not only with each other but with their magic, extended family and their significant others. Donna is learning to relax and to calmly accept her new magical life. Her growing affection for Axel is further explored with a trip to her/their past. Bella, however, finds herself in unknown and frightening territory as she struggles with unfamiliar motherhood. Her relationship with both Donna and Declan is strained as she battles her new found insecurities. MMM ends with some surprising twists and turns and I am not exactly sure how I feel about them. I will have a better idea after I have read book three...something I am very much looking forward to. Jacqueline Rendell has done another great job of narrating and bringing this story to life. 4.5 Stars
Audiobook: I found book two to be as entertaining as the first book in the series. I was delighted by Axel, who wasn't a typical paranormal being found in this genre. I admired the loyalty and trust portrayed by Donna and Axel. I liked the historical twist. There was some steam in this tale. I thought Jacqueline Rendell's narration was good, and her performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was gifted a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which included my honest opinions regarding this story.
A woman is missing and supposed dead when her car is found near the Sanders land. When a mauled body is found, Axel, Bella's personal assistant and Donna's love interest is their main suspect since he knew the woman. They investigate Axel's origins to find out what he is and also search for Lauren, the missing woman, who they believe is still alive. They have to find her soon since it looks like the whole town is turning against Axel and the witches.
Navigating family and new love, severing ties, repairing old relationships and forging new ones builds this magical world of the Sanders sisters. They are both struggling, but pushing forward, becoming stronger as they overcome the past. Hope we get to find out more about Donna and Axel's past life and how they 'found' each other again.
ADHD- the character referring to herself and the diagnosis as having a Wonky Brain was just another negative shame. The author using the term "wonky brain" over and over and over and over and over in the book. It was negative talk and annoying! If you're gonna write about people with ADHD then write ADHD friendly terminology.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I highly recommend it. Make sure you have enough time when you it down to read it as you will not want to stop until the end. I look forward to seeing what happens next.
Enjoyed watching the love blossom between Axel and Donna….and the sparks between Bella and the demon. In this book, the sisters grew, both in their relationship with each other, and in the witch power
Super fast read as is book one. Camp. Romance. Monster fun. Crossover character from other series. Perfect for some hyper focus midlife ADHD dopamine mining.
