5 stars! This is the cutest little dumpling book I’ve read! I was so happy that it includes apple dumplings that I bought it! I had read another book on dumplings around the world, and was disappointed that that one didn’t include apple dumplings. This includes them, and even Knödel. I was quite impressed with the broader scope of this international dumpling book.

Who knew there were so many different kinds of dumplings? In this board book, introduce your toddler to food from various cultures all around the world. Even though this book doesn’t contain recipes, you can easily find out how to make dumplings. Create an activity with your toddler by going online and finding the recipe to make some of the dumplings included in the book.

Each page includes dumplings with a name label. The rhyming verse makes the reading lyrical for young readers. Plus, the dumplings look fun to eat on the pages.

The end of the book includes the names of the dumplings, their pronunciation, and what region the dumpling is most likely from. Because so many people have enjoyed dumplings, it’s hard to know exactly where a specific type of dumpling is from. Many of the dumplings are new to me and I look forward to trying more dumplings soon!

Read to children aged 2-5 years old

I enjoyed the theme of this book because it showed the children how they should appreciate cultural differences. It was perfect how they used food to show the importance of bringing people together. It helps the children explore the beauty of cultural diversity.

I chose this book because it highlights food which will not only help the children with developing appreciation but it also will help the try different foods that they may not be familiar with.

As a lover of dumpling, I love that this book introduces different kind of dumplings around the world. From different cooking techniques to fillings, my favorites are guioza, jiaozi, coxinha, siu mai, wonton, xiao long bao and empanada. Full of family reunion, this picture book also highlights tradition, love and community. With vivid art, it left me hungry!

A cute rhyming introduction to dumplings and how the world over has foodstuffs in carbohydrate pouches! A pronunciation guide with where these dumplings can be found is in the back.

A note: when looking at Amazon reviews, apparently this edition by Chronicle Books is different from the original Kickstarter version, though those original authors are still listed as authors with a new illustrator so I assume there was publisher retooling.

It was interesting to see the different kinds of dumplings from all over the world. Although, I did need to check what they defined as a dumpling. It'll be a cute book to use a food passport to try all the food they mentioned.
