I guess it's good this was a little disappointing because everything before was excellent, but the arcs in this definitely had a more filler vibe to them, but hopefully they'll be important in the future. Still a fun read.

every time shadow makes an entrance I never see it coming (I am dumb) and I start cheering like an idiot

anyway this arc wasn't as great as the last one but I want whatever modern day sonic and shadow have going on in literally every piece of sonic media

4⭐️

I adore the IDW Sonic comics so much. Everytime I am in a reading slump, I pick one of these up and have the time of my life.

The fourth collection starts right after the Metal Virus arc. I loved that storyline and it was so incredibly big that every storyline here felt meh. I enjoyed the Bad Guys mini series and the Chao plotline, but everything surrounding Belle was quite lackluster.

I hope in the fifth collection the stakes are once again higher. It is a chunky collection so who knows.

Also lowkey hoping the sixth collection is released soon!

dr. starline is determined to humble dr. eggman once and for all, and to do so, he’ll need the help of sonic’s deadliest enemies. meanwhile, team sonic is attempting to rebuild omega, and to do so, they have to trade for parts with a mysterious champion chao racer.

this was a great volume! i loved meeting and learning about belle. she just might be one of my new favorite characters. the chao racing was also pretty interesting, and i’m glad cream, cheese, amy, and rouge could help the mistreated chaos. overall, this was an interesting volume!

Disappointing continuation after the Metal Virus saga.

Evan Stanley's style seems better suited to slice of life comic books. As a result, the new heroes introduced are enjoyable and cute but the plot is poorly conceptualized and the villains are boring.

It takes a long time just to reach an actual conflict which is what we see in "test run". However, Eggman's plan is not creative enough to carry an arc. It is mostly a rehash of his previous plans and has no consequences afterwards. It feels like nothing happened across these issues.

The Bad Guys miniseries is slightly better, but suffers from having to work within characters like Zavok, who are boring conceptually. I'm not sure why you would not centre this series around Sonic's more popular villains, like Eggman, Jet, or Chaos. But it did improve Zavok as a character, which is impressive.

The characters are cute funny animals though and I like that. I like when they do funny things and they jump around.

collects issues bad guys #1-4 & #33-40 of STH 2018

with metal virus arc behind us, we begin set-up for the next arc... we have a small adventure at the chao races, we get some shadow goodness, sonic and shadow teamwork, and dr. starlight appears, who has an apparent need for tails... for what, we dont know yet! he's up to some nefarious schemes that are yet to surface...

we also get introduced to belle the tinkerer, a creation of robotnik when he was "Mr. Tinkerer" and is integrated with the rest of the main crew... beyond that nothing too exciting besides a showdown with eggman and sonic w/ tails, amy, tangle, and belle within his spacey, timey-wimey door dimensions.

overall enjoyable and fun with the cast after what was the pretty heavy metal virus arc! looking forward to reading the continuing volumes

I Really Liked It 😄
-★★★★☆- (4.00/5.00)
My Grading Score = 80% (B+)

The IDW Collection Volume 4 comprises Saga 3: Eggman's Legacy (which is why they decided to use him as the cover for this one, so it's fitting). I can see how some may feel coming into this Saga feeling lukewarm, especially after Saga 2: The Metal Virus, which was a high for the arcs so far. And just because this one isn't as good does not mean it was bad by any stretch of the imagination, nor would I even say it's lukewarm, disappointing, or anything of the such. We got a handful of fun adventures, really utilizing a delightful combination of the traditional Sonic characters along with the IDW characters. Additionally, Stanley provides us with an arc that starts off with an impressively fun and well written Chao Race that was so charming. The usage of Shadow could have given us more sure, but I don't think it was enough to ruin the arc like some would state. The arc after this also had very fun callbacks with enemies like the Egg Viper.

Verdict
Sonic the Hedgehog: The IDW Collection Volume 4 although not on the level of the previous arcs I don't think it was trying to compete with it in the same way, it was a pleasant change of pace from the high stakes arc that was Saga 2: The Metal Virus.

I Really Liked It.

The Bad Guys mini series was a little slow and it didn’t really feel all that substantial in the greater plot. Issue 33 marks the debut of Even Stanley as head writer of the book and I loved her work. The characters feel so lively and the plots are a lot more laid back which is nice, especially after the Metal Virus. The “Chao Races and Badnik Bases” story was a definite highlight. Can’t wait to see more of what Even cooks up!

The Starline arc is not my favorite, but it's still a very good one! We finally got to see more of Team Dark, which i'm always a fan of. It's a good one.

I still adore Sonic the hedgehog comic books, but this one felt empty, if that makes sense.
You had the beginning, and then the metal virus arc. It’s a hard thing to follow, so a lot of the issues felt like filler more than anything.
