In a world of scandal and secrets, there is a special young lady, Georgiana. She wishes to remain unmarried in the thought that she will not find a husband who would love and respect her. As she is forced into a marriage of convenience, she now has a last chance, one last Season to find a suitable match but she is yet to discover that fear is a reaction whereas courage is a decision.
Georgiana Spencer has always hoped for love but when her mother tells her such a match is almost impossible, Georgiana is determined to cling to her independence. When her brother tells her of his intention for her to marry Lord Pembroke, however, Georgiana's world is turned upside down, and she must confront her fears of a loveless union.
Edward, the Duke of Westford, is a man focused on the responsibilities and duties of his title, turning his back upon one particular figure in his family. Knowing he must wed, he is determined to find a lady who does not care only for his title and for his wealth but such a lady seems almost impossible to find. When he meets the headstrong Georgiana, he sees a chance to fulfill his duty and form a partnership with a woman as strong and determined as himself.
Thrown together by fate, Georgiana and Edward must navigate the treacherous waters of London's high society, all while grappling with the blossoming connection between them. As they face scandal, betrayal, and brokenness, they will learn that sometimes the greatest love stories are born from the most unlikely of beginnings.*If you appreciate strong and influential Dukes, affectionate Duchesses, and a captivating portrayal of the splendid Regency and Victorian periods, then this is the perfect novel to enchant you.
A captivated regency romance novel of 65,000 words, written by Sally Forbes.
No cheating, no cliffhangers, and a sweet happily ever after.
A clean story. A brother decrees his sister must marry a Lord he has chosen, but she negotiated that she has 3 months to find a husband of her choosing. She meets a Duke who has similar views on marriage to her, and they decide to court. Numerous obstacles arise that they need to overcome I liked the story, but I found some of the editing a little odd. In mid chapter the next paragraph would have moved from the Duke being in conversation at his house to his friend, to him having a conversation with Georgiana at hers. Very odd, I would have expected a break or something to mark this separation. This was read on a Kindle, maybe print is different. There is also a continuity issue. Edward’s sister first meets Georgiana at the modiste’s , but when reconciling with her brother says it was at a bookshop. I think carefully editing could have avoided this, which was a distraction for me. Margaret also tells Edward her husband is divorcing her. As I understand it divorce then was very hard to achieve, it needed a bill approving in both Houses of Parliament, was rare, very very slow and expensive, but he is not wealthy? He may have effectively thrown her out but I am not sure he would have achieved a divorce anytime soon. Would ladies have started the scurrilous rumours about Georgiana? As Isobel says Georgiana would be Duchess so would have a powerful voice and that could have been very damaging to the ladies involved. I thought at times Edward was a bit slow, especially over discussing his sister. I find it surprising given he is a Duke that the ton would not have known of his sister and been querying where she was? Similarly I am sure some would have known who and what Lord Pembroke was, but nobody seems to have known - odd. Lastly Georgiana’s brother I felt would have come to London as soon as she and the Duke wished to become engaged. There would have been the marriage settlements to sort out, plus I am sure he would have wanted to be seen with his new powerful connection. So a good read but with some care could have been a 5 star.
A marriage based on agreement to not give in to their emotions but only out of convenience. For the Duke, a Duchess to give him and heir, and for Lady Georgiana, a husband who will give her as much freedom propriety can afford, not to mention a means to escape a most unwanted engagement with an abominable Viscount.
Little did the Duke and Lady Georgiana know that their hearts have a different agenda, where love blooms in the most unexpected situations.
Wonderful and concise, this historical romance has all the elements of a satisfactory love story, especially unconventional and strong characters who are willing to stand and fight for their love against all odds and the most judgmental ton. Highly recommended for readers who are pressed for time.
This is a story you will enjoy from beginning to end. Georgiana Spencer has always hoped to marry for love, but when her mother tells her that might be impossible, she decides she won't marry. Unfortunately her brother tells her he already has found a man for her to marry. Georgiana is able to talk her brother into giving her 3 months to be able to find someone on her own. At a ball she meets Edward, the Duke of Westford. He is surprised when she is not too impresed by his title and wealth. He likes that fact and that she speaks her mind. After just a short time, he proposes. But everyone is not happy when his proposal becomes known throughout the Ton. You will need to read this story to find out the rest of the story.
THE DUKE'S SCANDALOUS PROPOSAL was that they (Duke Edward and Lady Georgiana) would contract a marriage of convenience, faithful to each other, with otherwise as few restrictions as possible. Lots of problems arise with Lord Pembroke claiming Georgiana had been promised to him, getting Georgiana's brother's approval, and fighting damaging gossip about her started by envious members of the ton. As the eight weeks pass, they have serious spats, yet they admire each other more and more. But when Edward's estranged sister tells Georgiana how badly he's treated her. Will she back out or will they admit they have fallen in love?
I tried to persevere and finish this book, but I just couldn't. It's one thing to have a storyline where the main girl doesn't want to marry and doesn't care one whit about social standing, and naturally has a Duke falling all over here (not exactly an original storyline, I might add)...but it was so "in your face" on every page! This person is shocked that she doesn't care that he's a Duke, the next person is shocked, a third person can hardly believe it, another person can't understand it, etc...it gets so old! I told myself I would get past it eventually and maybe the story would be good. But it just never ended. I had no choice but to quit reading it.
Georgina and Edward. I had a hard time putting this one down it is very well written and very engaging. The drama was excellent and for once the villains really got what they deserved. I developed a love and love/hate relationship with the characters in this piece. I love when that happens because I become totally invested in their lives. I am happy to recommend this book I hope you check it out. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I love Georgiana and Edward. They are very relatable and you feel for Georgiana as her brother delivers unpleasant news about her future over which she has little control, and again for Edward as he struggles in searching for someone who will love him for himself, not for his title and wealth. The character dynamic is nice between them, and I enjoyed watching them come together to take on the ton. This book is a clean, sweet read.
Sally Forbes new book " The Duke's Scandalous Proposal" is a treat to read. Both of the two main characters do not want to marry but circumstances in their lives have led to a decision. Georgiana's brother has decided it is time for her to marry. He has even decided who her groom will be. Knowing heroines as we do in romances, she talks her brother into three months of the season to see if she can find another man on her own.
A fairy tale! A beautiful, strong young woman steps into society with a deadline looming over her head! A handsome young, powerful man steps forth into society, hoping to find someone to care for him, not his wealth or power! Will fate give each of them what their hearts truly need to be happy in life? ????? Read this book to find out if there is a happy ending!
This is an amazing story of how when we are ourselves and we find the right person- live grows. In spite of difficulties, rumors and other people! Well developed characters that you grow to love or hate! I do hope we will eventually find out who Lord Newfield succumbs to!
The story follows the main characters as they reluctantly agree to a marriage of convenience. While the plot is predictable, the author's witty dialogue and charming characters kept me turning the pages. The pacing is perfect, and the ending is satisfying. If you're looking for a fun and easy read, I highly recommend this book.
However, there are several instances in which there are errors in the way the paragraphs run. It seems like there are words left out and sentences run together. Very strange because I love Sally Forbe’s books
Each book I read is so much like the same ones before an after. This one is much the same, but each author puts his or her own spin on it. Don't miss out on a book because it so much like the others. This was a sweet story with the authors own ideas added in.
Great writing, editing and pacing; no gaps and only one hanging thread (karma and the evil Duke). Very entertaining read. It kept my interest throughout. The character development was very well done and the developing relationship between the MC's was believable.
A marriage of convenience plot once again where the heroine and hero fall in love. The author at times had witty and smooth flowing dialogue among the leading characters.
Charming story filled with mystery, plot twists, and love. You definitely cannot miss this. This is a good, romance story that will put a smile on your face.
The characters were perfect loved them. The story was sweet and kept you guessing I thought it was a wonderful Historical romance. I would recommend it to anyone who would enjoy a good read.
A great example of how distorted and obsessed one person can be if they are self motivated and unwilling to see that the person/position they want does not want them.
