Jesus is never absent. You are never alone. When world events feel chaotic and scary … When you feel crippled by fear and anxiety … When you feel hurt by the very people you thought you could count on … It’s tempting to wonder “Jesus, are you here? Do you care?” Though we may feel alone sometimes, Jesus assures us we are not. Even when we can’t see Him, He is here. Even when we aren’t hearing Him, He isn’t silent. How can we know this for sure? Because Jesus is never absent in any of Scripture, and he’s certainly not absent in our lives either. In 30 Days with Experiencing His Presence Throughout the Old and New Testaments , authors Lysa TerKeurst and Dr. Joel Muddamalle will help Jesus isn’t hiding from us; He’s waiting to be seen by us. Let this Bible study help you experience His presence every single day.

I wouldn’t recommend this to a new Christian. Connecting Jesus to many references in the Old Testament, this devotional was dense with information. I felt the authors sometimes tried too hard to connect these stories to the readers current life circumstances, instead of just being a study of God’s great plan. Book is beautiful. I did lose interest /connection often so only 4 ⭐️
SUCH a good read. Will definitely be repeating this one maybe every year. Had me reengage with many pieces of scripture in a completely different way. There was a clear thread day to day and reflections on earlier lessons. Devo questions left me with something to reflect on throughout my day.
I really like Lysa Terkeurst and how she puts faith into words. I also love study devotionals where you get to journal and answer questions so this fit me pretty well and it was all a great reminder that God is right there and always has been. His promises stand true, His love is eternal and He is with us.
I loved the weekly themes and connections between the Old and New Testament. However, I struggled with the cherry picking of singular verses that left much to be desired about the context of the Scripture. This is a good study for someone very familiar with the Bible, but would be better with more, deeper context, especially when focusing on a singular verse.
This study goes in depth on the need for a savior in the Old Testament and how Jesus fulfills those needs and how there are patterns throughout the Old Testament and New Testament to make them similar. Each week is divided into topical lenses to show God's plan. Each day starts with a verse, has a few paragraphs talking about that topic with 5 questions scattered throughout to create a personal connection. They also include a visual chart or a page with larger words to help make a point more memorable. Each day, the authors alternate in who is writing the devotional.
Overall, I think it is a good study. The week that stuck with me the most was the week about the patterns throughout the Bible because there seemed to be more depth in showing how each pattern weaved throughout the Bible. The week that I found not as impactful for me was actually week 1 about the portraits of important people from the Bible. While there were a lot of great charts to show how they correlate to Jesus, I think that those devotionals would be more impactful for someone who didn't know those stories that well already. I think this study's questions progressively get deeper, and more personal connections are being made towards the middle and end of the study than at the beginning.
Thank you, HarperChristian Resources, for the arc! These opinions are my own.
this is fun. its a nice step by step thing and walks along with you and provides questions when youre reading your bible. a pretty handy work book, the language isn't perfect (id prefer it to be a bit more neutral rather then so praise-y) but its still pretty alright.
I like the study work book style. I like learning, thats more my preference then like a traditional daily devotional.
I needed this so badly in the season of life Im in and Im so grateful I read it! If you like a structured bible study and are interested in how Jesus can be seen throughout the OT, this would be awesome for you!!
Excellent Bible Study that helped to get me back into reading my Bible after a slump. Highly recommend. Definitely more of a detailed study of the Bible and not a self-help / encouragement book which I loved!
The thought provoking questions used throughout this journey of scripture helped me to see where Jesus was and is and always will be present in our lives. From Bethlehem to today Jesus is with us, we just have to look for Him.
This was such an eye opener for me. I never thought Jesus was present in the OT outside of prophesies that were about Him. But wow! Was He ever present and still is today. So thankful for this devo. It has impacted my relationship with Jesus deeply.❤️
I really enjoyed digging into the Bible learning how the Old Testament connects to the New Testament with showing Jesus was also in the Old Testament as He has always been there from before the beginning of time.
This is not a light, fluffy read but rather an intense workbook. As such, you need to be prepared to spend lots of time. Although for those short of time, each devotional could be broken into several days. The authors do a good job linking readings from many parts of the Bible.
An engaging exploration of the typology of Christ in the Old Testament. Co-authored with a theologian which added weight to the subject matter. I gleaned a lot from this study.
9/2025 What a ride once again. Nothing like spending time with Jesus. There were days that I missed and had to catch up the next day but it was still a wonderful experience taking a deep dive into Jesus.
What a journey to getting to know More about Jesus from the Old Testament and the New.
I would say the last two weeks questions felt a little lazy and thought provoking but over all I love the book.
