Scott Morrison, Australia's 30th Prime Minister (2018-2022), offers a unique insider's account of a Christian who was open about his faith and operated at the top level of politics for more than a decade. During one of the toughest periods since the second world war, covering drought, wildfires, a global pandemic and recession, he chronicles God's faithfulness throughout, win or lose, public criticism or public success. Less political memoir and more pastoral encouragement, Morrison is passionate about encouraging others to discover how they can access and see the many blessings of God in their own lives, no matter their circumstances, drawing on Jeremiah 29:11, that God's plans are for our good and not our harm, to give us a future and a hope. In each section Morrison asks the questions all of us are looking to find answers Full of fascinating insights into the handling of some of the most significant global events and issues of our time Morrison's honest, vulnerable and reflective answers offers a unique lens to better understand your relationship with God and the blessing that can flow from such a relationship. Alongside an account of high-level politics in a new media age where cancel culture, identity politics and deep secularization is taking hold across so many western societies, creating a truly post Christian west, Morrison testifies to the faithful love and blessings of God.
I will never read this book by the most dishonest, corrupt, incompetent, narcissistic, abusive, sociopath of a wannabe dictator Australia has ever had the misfortune to have as a Prime Minister. Truth and honesty are like a foreign country to this man. He did his best to destroy Australia just to feed his overweening ego. Do not recommend.
This is not an auto biography, nor is it a book about being Prime Minister of Australia. Scott is very clear at the start about the purpose of the book. It even says on the front cover ‘ A prime minister’s testimony of God’s faithfulness’ This book is very well written, it explains everything really well. Very honest and real, with just the right amount of personal and political inclusions. Very insightful. Loved listening to him read it.
This not your ordinary autobiography from an Australian PM. This is a very personal insight into the heart of Scott Morrison. This was more like a series of sermons, with illustrations from his political and personal life. So, it became a book of theology, more than a professional bio. A self confessed flawed individual, who did his best in very challenging circumstances in the hardest job in the country, ScoMo reveals his Christian convictions as his motivation for service and source of wisdom in his decision making. The personal stories of his family life were the most touching for me.
A faithful Christian❤️❤️❤️! A wonderfully written and inspiring book👍👍. Thank you Lord for giving him wisdom to manage the country in the past few years.
It would seem that this is one of the most polarising books I have read. The reviews are either 1’s or 5’s - with some of the ones not even reading it or if they do the clearly didn’t read the cover which clearly states ‘a prime ministers testimony of God’s faithfulness’. The book is exactly as described. An honest representation of God’s presence in Scott’s life, reflecting the bible’s applicability and teaching in the modern world in a high powered role. Who can fail to see God’s presence in the Morrison families infertility journey or some of the other moving stories within the book
What a refreshing view of political life through the lens of faith. Scott Morris on could easily have settled for a straightforward memoir of his time as Prime Minister of Australia. Instead he invites us into his life and experiences as a Christian, explaining with great simplicity and clarity how his trust in God's plans worked out in practice - lessons which are so relatable in all walks of life. He sets out very clear distinctions between faith and politics, and the chapters on anxiety and forgiveness are especially powerful. Historical illustrations as well as some from his own experiences are narrated by a gifted story writer which makes for an engrossing read.
Biographies/ Autobiographies are my favourite genre. I must have read 100s if not 1000s.
This is the most unique bio I have ever read. How he writes about things he faced as Prime Minister of Australia between 2018 and 2022 . Issues such as Covid , AUKUS, Foreign powers, while being PM is most intriguing. His own personal perspective is very interesting and how he wove his relationship with Jesus into this time .
Great to hear from ScoMo’s POV. Bro had a tough time as PM but remained grounded in God’s direction and goodness. Inspirational stuff especially for someone looking at a similar industry.
A great balance of political discussion and biblical learnings.
Perhaps Mr Morrison will release a political memoir when he has more distance from his time as Prime Minister, but for now, this is the closest the Australian public is getting to his tell-all.
Mr Morrison's book doesn't hold a hose to other recent Prime Ministers' autobiographies, but it is an easy read. It uses accessible language and does not trouble the reader with having to think too deeply.
The reader must wade through Mr Morrison's interpretation of scripture for the pay-off of reading about episodes of his Prime Ministership. For the book's intended audience - U.S., sharing Mr Morrison's religion - it might be the other way around. It is hard to imagine why a non-Australian audience might be interested, but the U.S. cultural references, explanations of Australian culture, and imperial conversions suggest it is not for us.
Each chapter is a sermon, formulaicly constructed with a hook usually based on Mr Morrison's life and experiences leading into his interpretations of his faith. Through this structure, there are some interesting interludes about his leadership. His compelling analysis in the section on the nuclear submarines deal (and breaking Australia's contract with France) was a real highlight.
Mr Morrison writes that faith cannot be used for politics, a point belied by his book. Mr Morrison also fails to understand that morals can be held outside of religion. Late in the book, he spells out his belief that Christianity is not about being or doing good in the world (p. 164). It is about one's faith. This sums up Mr Morrison's philosophy, and reconciles how he didn't often do the compassionate thing as Prime Minister despite being guided by religious values.
This book pairs well with Niki Savva's book ('Bulldozed') on Mr Morrison's career. 'Plans for Your Good' offers insights into Mr Morrison's view of himself and the world, while Savva's book sketches in the details of what happened and why.
Very moving and uplifting book it’s also very encouraging that some leaders of the free world are the quality and make up of Scott Morrison thank you for your service to your country and your faith to our lord and savior It was a pleasure to read this book
If you are looking to read more about how Scott Morrison’s God has helped (and continues to help) him, then you may enjoy this. If you are looking for an objective account of Scott Morrison’s prime ministership, this is not it, even though Mike Pence wrote the foreword. Still, I should have known that from the blurb:
‘Scott Morrison, Australia's 30th Prime Minister (2018-2022), offers a unique insider's account of a Christian who was open about his faith and operated at the top level of politics for more than a decade. So there you have it.
I borrowed the book from the library and will happily return it. I am disappointed that it is not even written for an Australian audience: why else would he write, about the outback: ‘It gets pretty hot out there (over 100 degrees Fahrenheit). (Page 23)’ Yes, the American focus is further reinforced later in the book when he writes: ‘Over the next year, as COVID-19 ravaged the world, a small project team in the Defense Department in Canberra went to work finding out what it would take to convince the United States to let us access their technology to build and operate nuclear-powered submarines.’ (Page 144). Sigh. In Australia we have the Department of Defence. I thought a former Prime Minister would know that.
I confess that I have no interest in Scott Morrison’s religious beliefs and skimmed the overtly religious cant. Which made for a quick read. I did tune in to his comments about Joe Lyons (I am also a fan) and to Jenny Morrison’s struggles with endometriosis (I can relate).
My conclusion? Unless you are interested in Scott Morrison’s religious ideology and how it apparently guides his life, then don’t bother. A unique account? Definitely. An inspiring account? Not for me.
I decided to read this book after seeing the ABC's 'Nemesis' series about the prime ministerships of Abbott, Turnball and Morrison. It was apparent from the various comments of interviewed politicians that Scott Morrison was an enigma compared to the other two PMs. By the way, if you watch Nemesis, don't miss the behind-the-scenes extra - so good. So, on to ScoMo's book. Let's start with the obvious. This book is written for (I suspect non-Aussie, aka American) active Christians interested in a series of sermons that includes some personal insights into ScoMo's life as an Aussie PM. It was not what I expected, though the title does imply that is likely to be the case, so maybe foolish me. If you can get past the preachiness of the writing (I assume most active, church-going Christians will love it), each chapter's messages are positive and emphasise how each person on planet Earth is supposed to live a non-mediocre life. The rare glimpses into ScoMo's personal life were insightful. My favourite chapters were easily the last two. They were less preachy and focused on his daughters' amazing story of conception and the tragedy of the Abdallah family, which lost three children in a hit-and-run in early 2020. The section on AUKUS in an earlier chapter was also an interesting read. However, the elephant in the room for most Aussies was not addressed. If you want to understand ScoMo's take on being the Minister for Everything, you won't find it here. Maybe that's the great reveal for his next book.
I really enjoyed this book. Many will see politics in this book, but I see a Man's Testimony. Former Prime Minister of Australia, Scott Morrison has a really strong faith. He served as Prime Minister of Australia during a really Complicated time in the World. This book gives his testimony of how he held strong in his faith and guidance from God not only in her personal life, but as ruler over Australia. Mr. Morrison uses the verse Jeremiah 29:11 to encourage readers that God can help them through the rough storms of life. I have a personal "anthem" in life: "God's plan are always better then our plans". Mr. Morrison also points that out in this book. God has a plan for each individual person and if we follow his plans we will be successful, even in the storms of life. I highly recommend this book to anyone who needs encouragement in life and their faith. FANTASTIC BOOK!
This book perfectly encapsulates my relationship with Scomo. He could have been an incredible PM and this book could have been amazing, but you're just left feeling like there were missed opportunities.
Some great insights both on his time in office and on his relationship with God. For some bizarre reason this book seems to be targeted to Americans with not much knowledge of faith or Australian Politics, so everything is wayy too simplified. I would have preferred a detailed and complex thought provoking book, and this just wasn't it.
"Plans for Your Good" by Scott Morrison: A masterclass in divine delegation! With secret ministries galore and a passion for passing the buck (who holds a hose, anyway?), this memoir offers miraculous insights into how political inaction can be rebranded as celestial strategy. 🌌📚🤷♂️ #HolyHosemanship
As a Christian, I found Scott Morrison's book incredibly encouraging and challenging: so Christ-centred and firmly based in God's word. At first glance, you might think this book is all about politics, and political events are mentioned from time to time. But the focus is God's faithfulness, and this book is well worth the read, no matter your political persuasion.
Probably will not read. Surprised Janet P. is devoting tonight’s (6.2.24) radio program to him. Australia really messed up with the way they handled the Covid pandemonium pandemic .. one of the worst countries in that regard (imho).
Lovely to see more of the heart behind the man who led our nation through such a difficult chapter in our history. Inspiring blend of empathy, humility, faith and God. Thanks for writing it Scott!
Thoroughly enjoyed this read. I love how he shared his faith in real life time. A witness and encouragement to all who believe there is a God Who is ever present in the lives of those who choose to believe that Jesus is truly LORD. 🙏
Genuine. Easy to read. Thought provoking. An insight into Scott Morrison's life and his relationship with God. Thoroughly enjoyed this read and found I was challenged about my own life along the way.
