As far as Sterek fics go, this is probably the best rendition I’ve read where Derek is stuck in wolf form for the majority of the story.

This was a bit of an alternate take on early BH events, wherein Derek is very much present the night Peter attacks Laura for her Alpha powers. Laura still dies (so sad) but Derek retaliates and kills Peter immediately, becoming Alpha and subsequently becoming cursed and trapped in his wolf form.

It’s soon after this that Stiles wanders into the preserve to investigate, as his nosy ass is wont to do, only to hurt himself pretty badly at the old Hale House ruins. Thankfully, wolfy Derek shows up and protects Stiles until help arrives, with the two forming a quick bond and Stiles even more quickly deducing that his wolfy protector is in fact Derek Hale: werewolf. No one ever said Stiles wasn’t fast on the uptake; he takes to the new knowledge of the supernatural like a duck to water, and pledges his friendship and assistance to Derek immediately.

This was a long fic, but I enjoyed it a good deal. The progression of the story worked for me and I didn’t even mind that Derek was in wolf form until 78% of the fic. His friendship with Stiles was so natural and I enjoyed watching them go from new buddies, to pack, to lovers over the course of the story. I even enjoyed Scott’s presence here - rare, I know - and I liked the way the author incorporated Scott’s transition from asthma ridden bestie to newly turned beta during the story, too.

This was fun, sweet and even a little sexy there at the end. I can’t ask for much more than that in my Sterek reads.

There are no flaws.
This is ridiculous.

Dira Sudis kept her writing consistently pleasant and visual, her storytelling smooth and her characterization on point throughout the whole thing.
But mostly I'm in awe of the fact that this story managed to make me smile, coo, fan myself, bang the back of my head against the wall in frustration, giggle and squirm and yes, shed a tear.
And at the end, it left me filled with warmth in a way only very few stories can.

So when you see this fic pop up on every Sterek shelf and in every TW favorites list, think about the fact that there's a reason why it's everywhere and go read it.
It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but it's the kind of story that might be able to convert some people to this kind of romance.

If you don't mind fics where teenage boys run around the woods with their werewolf love interest when said love interest is stuck in wolf form until 80% of the book....Then you'll really like it! Maybe love!

I loved it, really. The beginning with Stiles? Whew, so scary and so painful. I love Derek as a wolf stories and how cool that this one was one

description

I never once cared Derek was a wolf because I knew it would be so worth it when he wasn’t and it was.

My only complaints would be the Argents toward the end and well, the end. Too fast? I don’t know, it seems I always want more so it could just be me. I did feel everything with the Argents was too easy though.

Hey, I even liked Scott!

Long, slow story. I think Dira Sudis' writting is a lot stronger in his/her other fics (some of which are really good).

The premis is good but it's longer than it needs to be which for me diluted the personality. There's a lot of Stiles running in the woods and Derek being Wonder-Wolf and I continued reading only because I was determined to see some human-Derek which wasn't until 80%!!
I think if it had a big edit it could be a nice fic but the balance felt off. Too much aimless running around, not enough human Derek.

Stiles and Scott seemed very young, nearer ten than sixteen with the 'magical friend' in the wood. Which made it awkward when all the jerkin' started.
Derek came across as an overgrown Lassie with Stiles able to determine whole conversations from a cocked ear. Scott is irritatingly thick (never my favourite character anyway) and out of character with his 'Derek is the best alpha' vibe.

All the drama happens at once at the end. I was left feeling that Stiles/Derek never talked, he was a wolf for over half the fic, barely spoke to Stiles once he changed and there was no chance to see them get to know each other as human.

Had it's good moments but didn't work for me overall.

When Stiles gets hurt in the old Hale house, he gets help from a wolf. Stiles immediately knows that this is no ordinary wolf.

I didn’t mind Derek running around in the woods as a wolf for the first 80% at all. I could feel the connection between him and Stiles anyway.

Smexy times at the end and some in the middle with ‘dream’ Derek.

Yeah, this was a good Sterek.

it goes on for so much longer than it needs to that certain things happen, three, four, five, six times—jogging, dreaming, pop-tarts, whatever.

self indulgent, which means—eventually—dull.

the ending didn't work for me either; talk about anticlimactic.

but when it's good, it's lovely.

the structure and plot left no room for surprises, so knowing what came next (six times in a row) was easy. that it was so mundane and repetitive made it a harder slog than it would have been if the steady, elegant writing had played-out each development just the once.

A wonderfully endearing and compelling story that managed to capture my heart and deepen my love for Sterek. It was a very interesting twist and retelling of the original (and early) story-line of Teen Wolf, and a strong and well constructed one. The writing wasn't top notch, and its impact wasn't as great as I would've hoped, however The Boy and the Beast is a very good read, and one worth checking out-- even if you're not a fan of the ship.

Second re-read June 2018

New Favorite Quote:
"So keep on knowing it tomorrow, okay?" His dad shook him gently without pushing him away. "Don't just forget this and go right back to the same thing."

FIRST RE-READ 2 October 2016
I'm not sure if it's because of all the fanfic I've read in the meantime, or if I've become a grumpier bitch in the last three years, but this wasn't quite as fun as I'd remembered.

It was still good, but I'd likely not give it five stars if I were to rate it now.

Some New Favorite Quotes:
his very own giant teddy wolf to cuddle when he was in trouble.

It seemed to persist in being a thing that existed.

ORIGINAL REVIEW 3 July 2013
So I saw this story pop up in some friends' update feeds a while back, and just from the blurb and their reviews I knew I would love it. Knew it so much that I actually watched the first two seasons of the show on Netflix just so I'd have some idea of what was going on here, I was that excited about this story.

And wow, did it more than exceed expectations. Stiles and Derek are both fantastically well-written, and even with Derek being a wolf for much of the story, the connection they formed was incredible. The only character I wasn't as convinced by was Allison, but honestly it wasn't enough to lower my opinion of the story, just enough to make me think "huh, I can't really picture her doing that. but whatever, back to the story!"

I also loved the pacing of the story, Stiles finds things out exactly quickly enough to keep the story feeling quick-moving and exciting without being overwhelming. And did I mention that he and Derek together are fantastic? I thought the whole thing with the dreams was a brilliant way to get around potential bestiality issues.

Part of my enjoyment of this may be that I adore alternate-universe stories, where the same events happen just in a different way or from a different perspective. And that's exactly what happens here.

In many ways, I actually think I prefer this version of the story to the version from the show--and not just because Sterek actually happens in this AU. :P

I'm also a HUGE fan of fairy-tale retellings, so the beauty and the beast element of the story definitely contributed to how much I enjoyed this. I thought the curse was also fantastically well handled, both with where it came from and with how it was broken. Creative and plausible enough for me to be able to smile and sigh happily instead of roll my eyes when everything worked out.

The only negative thing I have to say about the story is that it ended! I wasn't ready to let go yet, and I'm honestly tempted to go re-read it now just to spend more time with this Sterek in their AU.

Favorite Quotes:
"A wolf would't do a little dance to prove to me that it was a wolf."

It had just never occurred to him to look where Derek wasn't.

Stiles snorted, "Well, in my case the dangerous thing was gravity."

"I totally let other people talk when they're not wolves. Or dead. I swear."

The fear that Derek wouldn't forgive him if he knew, tied up with the guilty but persistent hope that Derek already knew and it could be all right.

Derek made a noise that could only be described as a
scoff.
"Oh, it is
on," Stiles said. "If you have to catch me I will say I told you so all the way down."

"Dude, don't apologize because your superpower has
limits," Stiles scolded.

His heart was pounding, his skin too tight to contain him. He wasn't just going to get off, he was going to get
Derek."

Stalled at 41%

When I picked this up I thought it was going to follow more of the traditional Beauty and the Beast story line ... apparently this fic has nothing to do with the well known fairy tale. Does not follow TW canon either other than the fact that their was a family named Hale and a house fire killed most of them. And familiar TW faces run about. It starts Peter Hale is found dead in the woods, Stiles decides to investigate ... at night in the Hale house when it is believed a murderer is on the loose and that murderer is suspected to be Laura Hale (so odd choice of timing and approach there, Stiles). He ends up falling through some floor boards and being injured - good thing a wolf shows up to take care of him. A boy and his dog relationship evolves.

At 40% I am still waiting for this story (particularly the Sterek aspect) to move along. Derek has yet to shift into human form, apparently he is stuck as a wolf. I am losing my patience ... and am surprised Stiles isn't. Possibly thinking of revisiting later.

I really haven't had much luck with any of this author's works.

This book was definitely worth five stars. It's a fun twist on a "Beauty and the Beast" type thing, without the real story of Beauty and the Beast, other than one of the characters being human and the other being a beast. The characters were beautifully portrayed, and for one not being able to talk for probably over half of the book, they had astoundingly deep personalities and connections.

It managed to be a sexual boy-meets-wolf story without a hint of bestiality, which is an amazing feat in and of itself.
A beautiful book.

This was an amazing book. We have Derek and Stiles in the traditional Teen Wolf setting, but the story is completely unquie. This is described as "beauty and the beast," and what I love about this is how Derek and Stiles become friends first, then lovers.

Excellently written book!

AU Sterek fic, in which Stiles is, well, Stiles, Derek is stuck as a wolf and Peter is conveniently absent.

If you like references to fairy tales, you can find similarities to "Beauty and the Beast", even the title say so - "The Boy and the Beast". Does it ring any bells? ;)

Since I adore two things, which are present in this story - one of the main characters as a wolf; alternative/rewritten version of popular fairy tale - I had to read it.

Derek, as a result of the curse, can't turn into human. In his wolf form he meets Stiles, who is injured, in his old burned house, and safes him. They form a bond and become friends. Then Stiles decides, that he has to help Derek.

This is probably the longest fic in this fandom, which I had an opportunity to read. Not that I'm complaining, just saying. I truly enjoyed this story and, even if not everyone was as enthusiastic as I was, I recommend it.
Warning, though. If you're not a fan of Derek as a wolf for the most time, it might not work for you.

Oh! I forgot about Stiles's dreams, in which he meets Derek as a human. Awww ^-^

This is a Teen Wolf, Stiles and Derek fanfic.

First of all I don’t know why this is tagged as ‘slow build’ because they are pretty much in love from the first meeting, which happens, like, at the beginning of this 116k word fic, so… Slow build? No.

Ok, so Derek might be an actual wolf when they meet, and Stiles an actual, umm, human, but that doesn’t really change anything.. And no, don’t worry, I’m not saying there’s some kind of bestiality going on, but still.. Even with Derek in Wolf form, they are pretty much in love at first sight ok?

Anyway.. So yeah, this is about Stiles meeting Derek as a Wolf and then all the drama begins, but he pretty much figures it all out in like 10 seconds hence the not so slow build, and then its 115.000 words of Stiles running, but not from the bad guys, no he just runs for fun with Wolfy Derek through the woods, and lots of wolfy huffs and puffs.. Drama? What’s that?

I’m making this sound negative, I know, and I’m sorry for that, because I didn’t actually hate it or anything, I just lost interest in the story 60% through, because.. It was literally Stiles running and then when Scott entered it went too out of character and then my mind completely shut down.. I know its AU so I can’t really complain about OOC, but still.. Derek nuzzling Scott a lot and sleeping between Stiles and Scott was still a bit too much, when your favorite Derek is canon Derek who, well let’s face it, wouldn’t exactly nuzzle Scott.. I like my Derek non-Scott-nuzzling, tbh..

Anyway, so yeah, I lost interest in the story, but if you’re into Derek in wolf form and don’t mind OOC characters, I guess you could like this?

Dira Sudis's Sell Your Body to the Night was my first Sterek fic. It was beautiful, dirty, angsty and still my favorite Sterek read. This fic was written before sell your body and I knew that going in. I wouldn't say I was disappointed with this read since I read reviews going in, but still it in no way comes close to sell your body. This is a slowwwww burn, but what really got me was after Derek and Stiles actually "meet" it felt off and a bit too distant. Not bad, overall and I feel like this rating reflects seems a little low but since 3.5 is not a goodreads star option that's what I'm going with.

This was a great story! This is a Sterek fanfiction story. For those of you that don't know...Sterek fanfic is based off 2 male characters, Stiles and Derek, from the TV show Teen Wolf. In the show they're both heterosexual but some viewers have fantasized about them together in a m/m relationship and thus Sterek was born. This story takes place in a non-TV show world but werewolves do exist. Things go down differently than the TV show in this story so it stars with both Laura and Peter dead and Derek cursed into wolf form and forgetting his humanness. Stiles has never met Derek before the story begins.

Stiles is nosing around the half burnt Hale house and ends up falling through a floor, breaking his wrist and giving himself a severe concussion. He also broke his cell in the fall and no one knows where he is. The head injury has Stiles in such bad shape he can't even sit up, let alone stand. He's rescued by a big wolf who he's scared of at first but only for a few moments. After he realises that the wolf is trying to help him and not eat him, Stiles trusts him and is thankful for the warmth. Stiles figures out pretty quickly that Derek is not just a wolf but actually a werewolf and that he's most likely Derek Hale. Derek takes care of Stiles for a couple days until he's able to walk enough for Derek to lead him to people that were searching the woods for Stiles. Stiles knows that Derek is alone and needs Stiles so he promises to come back and visit often. There are some issues with this since his Dad and Scott (his BFF) both worry about Stiles going off on his own but Stiles manages. Things actually turn out pretty interesting as Scott does get turned (but in a different way than happened in the show) and there's some issues with the Argent family (werewolf hunters). I liked the way things came together and the story ends with Derek and Stiles starting on a HEA together.

This was a great story. I loved the way Derek was as a wolf and the mystical connection between them that led to shared dreams. It made things a bit more "magical" than in the TV show but it really worked for the story. The characters were all very likable and the plot was very well written with things working out in a believable way in the end. Overall, this was a great Sterek. :D

I really liked this one. It's very well written and manages to make you feel involved in the plot and to really care about the guys.
I have to warn that Stiles is only 16 and he does get to third base with Derek, so... you've been warned :)
It's an alternate story of Teen Wolf (the TV show), so it's not really faithful to what happened in the show, but it does help if you actually watched the first season and have an idea about the characters. Wolf Derek is the cutest monster you can imagine (at least when he's dealing with Stiles), but it is slightly frustrating that he turns to human so late in the story.

A wonderful re-imagining of the TW world.

I was beginning to wonder if but it finally was... whew!

This was a Sterek I could not stop reading. And I actually thought about it after I went to bed and not about those naughty parts either.

4.5 stars out of 5 for me.

Thoroughly enjoyed this. Liked that Derek was Wolfy most of the story, liked that Stiles just ran (literally) with it.
