The book was interesting from the beginning to the middle and I couldn't wait to see how everything played out. I will say that the end of the book had me quite perplexed as things didn't seem to make sense. it was as if things were just thrown into the end for the shock value.
Can I Live? Memoirs of A Dope Boy is the debut novel by Carla. As I started reading, I would have sworn that she is a seasoned author; the book is well written, with believable characters, a plot that everyone can relate to, and just the right smattering of danger, drama, suspense, and thrills. I was sleepy beyond belief, but I couldn't put this book down!
I would definitely recommend that you read Carla's debut novel, if you're looking for a great read! The ending will definitely knock your socks off!
I really enjoyed this book. Carla did an excellent job of making the story flow and keep you wanting more. Brandon was a bad man. He was loyal, confident and all about the paper chase. In this book either you liked the characters are you didn't. King was a punk, Sharla was crazy, Samiyah was crying out for help and Marisol was just a straight up hoodrat. I can't wait for part 2.
This author told a story that was intriguing and very interesting. I applaud this author and the urge her to speed up the process on writing and releasing the sequel... lol
I envision Samiyah and Brandon as the "Power Couple" having it all and avenging the death of Folk!!!
Sharla dealt with that snake ass Marisol but I am very concerned with her mental health -- it is questionable at best!
This book would make for a great group discussion! I would recommend this book!
These days, everyone can be an author, but not everyone is a writer. Even though I'm not really into these types of stories, I really enjoyed this one because of the skill that the writer used to tell the story. I appreciate good writing over story, and Carla delivered here. Loved the ending - still SMH at Sharla's character. Now I need to read part 2 because the cliffhanger was setup quite nicely. Nice cover too because all through the book, I pictured the cover model as King!
