Maggie O’Shea is the lone witness to Ozara’s betrayal and murder of two Seelie Council members, and to Ozara’s treacherous alliance with the Unseelie leader, Zarkus. But will Maggie remember any of it?
Christopher Shields lives in Northwest Arkansas with his family and three dogs. Following what he considers to be his calling, he is a professor of criminal justice at the University of Arkansas, in Fayetteville. He loves working with students during the day, and writing at night. Christopher also enjoys spending time with his circle of close friends, playing his sax, and indulging his life-long passion for the Arkansas Razorbacks.
"The Aetherfae (Weald Fae Journals, Book 3)" by Christopher Shields is a magical and epic fantasy story for young adults and young-at-hearts. Although this is the third in the series I read this book first when it came out. I have since read the first two and even though I missed a few details by reading in this order this book on its own got me hooked onto the great characters and engulfed in the magical creation of this talented author. Having fled Arkansas from some hostile fantasy creatures Maggie stays in Florida with her family but the protection is not enough and Maggie suffers an attack by a group of hostile Fae, led by her nemesis Ozara. In this beautiful world that Shields has created are many a great and memorable characters, such as love interest Gavin and Maggie's loveable father to name a few. The Seelie Council struggles and seems no longer able to protect Maggie. The book contains again the unique blends of elemental magic that make the fights between creatures more interesting. As a casual visitor to the genre I was in awe of the imagination and broad spectrum Shields covers in this book, a far cry from more repetitive and inept works in the genre. On the run from her enemies Maggie travels to Europe but eventually has to stand up and fight in a great show down. Although the book is the third in a series it worked well as a stand alone creation. Highly recommended.
The Aetherfae was yet another roller coaster ride. There were revelations that surprised me a bit, such as who Ozara's mate is. Her real views on humans did not surprise me. I was very intrigued with how thick her deception is.
Maggie ends up meeting with Bastien, the historian, twice...and I had to laugh because the first time she and her friends met him they had no idea. Her ancestry I also found to be highly interesting, as I know how genealogy uncovers fascinating revelations. Both of these points I thought were brilliant strokes.
I stayed up until dawn reading this. I'm going to be wondering what will happen in the next book for a long time.
Author Christopher Shields has hit a home run with Aetherfae, the third book in his Weald Fae Journals series. This book is even more fast paced than the previous books and will keep you turning the pages as you follow Maggie O’Shea’s perilous adventures around the world. Will she escape the evil clutches of the powerful Fae and develop the skills to save mankind? I highly recommend you find out by reading this fascinating and entertaining tale.
Each book in this series is better than the one before. This third book is absolutely non-stop action. I've said it before, but these books would make for some INCREDIBLE movies.
I had been waiting on this book for a while and I bought it as soon as it came out on Amazon and I dont not regret that at all.
I really have nothing to complain about in this book other than I thought that it was kind of short and not enough happened( But thats just me wishing I had the next book already!)
In the first two books my main problem was the fact that Maggie was pretty stupid to be frank. But it seems like she stepped her game up this time around!! (Yay an YA Author actually improved his characters as the series progressed instead of making them get worse!!)
I have to say that I guessed/predicted every single "secret" or "surprise" that occurred in this book. Like Im not sure if things were too heavily hinted or I am just that awesome( to be modest, Its probably a mixture of both.)
Im not sure if I wanted to give this a 5 star or an 4 star, ill probably come back soon and bump it up to 5. That being said I cant wait for the next book, and you can count on me adding the book info to Goodreads whenever it becomes available (Being a Librarian FTW!)
This book was offered by the author in exchange for an honest review and after having read the last two books,I couldn't miss this wonderful opportunity.I wasn't surprised that I loved this book just like the previous ones.Firstly, the cover is beautiful.Secondly there were a lot of surprises and suspense. You felt like you knew what was going to happen but the author surprises you again and again. While reading this book I realized that every scene in the The Steward and The Changeling had some significance and everything told was not just a way to fill up the pages.Even the name(Weald Fae Journals)had a reason. This was the reason I really liked it.Even more new characters are introduced, some of them who really shocked me.Other than the main story, the author has given a real twist to Greek mythology which even though it does not play a major part of the story is really fun to read. There was a lot of action which started straight away and there was never a dull moment. We see that Maggie has matured a lot from the first book and has become even more powerful. There was a lot of suspense but due to some characters, the story was prevented from being too serious and was instead a lot of fun to read. This book kept me awake all night reading because I could not wait to know what would happen next.It was a great read and one that a person should absolutely try.I am now impatiently waiting for the next and last book in this series 'The Maebown' to come out.I will definitely be one of it's earliest readers:) The AetherfaeChristopher Shields
What an amazing series this is turning out to be! If you have not yet caught FAE FEVER, what are you waiting for?! These books weave fae tales and myth, with outstanding writing and compelling characters. The plot has definitely thickened with this third book, and a few of my suspicions have been confirmed. Lines are being drawn, and sides are being chosen. Once again I am astounded by Maggie O'Shea, she has found herself in the middle of an immortal tug o war. Who can she trust? How will she keep everyone safe? The Aetherfae had my emotions running wild. I cried, and at times actually laughed out loud. Nothing is as it seems in this book, which has challenged all I thought I knew about the Weald Fae. I can not wait to find out what Mr. Shields has in store with the next installment in this series~ that has now been added to my favorites shelf!
A sincere thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of his work in exchange for my honest review.
Book three of the Weald Fae Journals continues with the story of Maggie O’Shea. I just love these books. I just finished this one and felt like I just got off of the worlds longest roller coaster ride! The ups, downs, twists and turns keep you rooted in your seat. Christopher Shields understands teenagers and loyalty, a gripping storyline and fun characters. I will continue reading them as quick as he can pump them out. Each book maintains the drive and the plot without losing any of it’s momentum as so many series can do. I give this book a solid five stars. YA and older fantasy lovers will enjoy this one.
I love this series! I devoured the first 3 books in as many days. The series is well written with engaging characters and a fresh take on the Fae, their history and their magic. The author cleverly uses different cultures, their folklore and mythology to reference and define characteristics of many of the Fae in the story. I've read dozens of fantasy books involving the Fae and I just can't seem to get enough! This series definitely ranks highly on that list. Anyone reluctant to read because of the young adult label, please reconsider. I never once felt like I was reading a YA book. Anxiously awaiting the 4th book!
This book took longer to get where it's going than it needed to. It sort of felt like the author was just enjoying the characters, and in no rush to advance the story.
That being said, it was an enjoyable read. As with all the books in this series, I was left wanting for more romance - but there is imagination and fun to be had.
I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
Seriously, every book in the Weald Fae Journals Series just keeps getting better and better. There have been very few plots that I have read that surprise nearly as much as the Weald Fae Series. The Aetherfae did not disappoint and the ending wasn't a complete cliff hangar which was relieving (I mean, how many heart attacks can one girl take?).
I just finished The Aetherfae, and it was fan-freakin'-tastic!! I felt every emotion reading this book - anger, frustration, fear, sadness (actually cried at one part), happiness, and the excitement was amazing. This series just keeps getting better and better, and I can't wait for Book 4.
Well, it took me a while, but I just placed an order for a kindle. I've always meant to buy one, but your next and final installation of this series being a nook exclusive has pretty much kicked me into gear. (A little sad that this story ending so soon..)
I get more tangled in with each book. It's almost unfair. I started thinking quick read, but three books on I can see how wrong I was lol. But very worth reading. I can't wait to dive into the next book!! :)
I continue to enjoy reading about the unique world the author has brought to life. The main character is a little obtuse at times which gets a bit old after three books. The banter between Ronnie and Candance is priceless and the characters are easy to get behind. The plot continues to be on the predictable side but side holds the reader’s attention. It does get rather wordy and I find myself skimming the passages containing location descriptions or overly long council conversations. For this reason I deducted a star.
