When the power goes out across New York, Elizabeth Marter finds herself forced to look after her younger brother Henry. At first, Elizabeth is convinced that everything is going to be okay. As days pass, however, it becomes clear that the whole of humanity has been struck by some kind of catastrophe.
Meanwhile, in Oklahoma, two brothers find themselves in the middle of the same disaster. Following the deaths of their parents, Thomas and Joe decide to head to the nearest town, where they discover that a deadly virus has wiped out most of the world. Worse is to come, however, as it becomes clear that the virus was invented for a specific reason, and the dead are now coming back to life.
This volume contains all 8 books in the first series, covering the first eight days of the disaster.
Amy Cross writes novels and short stories in a number of genres, mainly horror, paranormal and fantasy. Books include The Farm, Annie's Room, The Island, Eli's Town and Asylum.
The one really big thing that bothered me was that the author keeps forgetting that her story (and the bonus ) are set in the States, but British terms pop up every now & then. The books need to be reproofed.
Haven't finished yet, but I rated this book 1 star b/c:
Everytime I tried to flip the page the book would throw me 5pgs forward or backwards & then if have to flip the page again for it to go to the right page... It was also freezing up & pixelating the screen, I'd have to restart my Kindle to unfreeze it. I opened other books to make sure it wasn't my Kindle & the other books worked the way they're supposed to... So it's definitely something wrong with the way the book was uploaded to Amazon or however Ebooks are published... It's taking me 10x as long to read your book as it normally would take for me to start & finish a book... As far as the book & its plot, it's phenomenal! So once I finish I'll edit this rating... I'm going you can fix the glitch on your book so it'll stop freezing up, pixelating, skipping pages, etc, etc, etc... THANKS!!!
It is very annoying that this author put this book out before it was finished. I don't appreciate having to buy it chapter by chapter. Finish it, decide on a fair price, and then offer it for sale.
Another thing bothered me about the book - I noticed some British English making it's way into the dialogue of the American characters. I thought I may have missed something about the siblings in Manhattan, but when one of the Oklahoma boys called a wrench a "spanner" it was jarring and made me think the book had not been carefully edited.
That being said, the book is standard fare for the genre.
I am glad I purchased this book as the whole series. This was not your typical zombie apocalypse book. I loved how the two main characters were switched back and fourth between chapters. The book was well written but once again there were many typos with Cross' book. Their was extremely crazy mind twisting stuff going on. You begin to feel for the characters and hope that the two main characters pull through...and some not so much. I have actually read the second series as well and I love them. There is a 3rd series coming out in 2014 that I will be eyeing up!
hmm where to begin. I found this story by accident. I had free time so i thought why not give it a try. Boy am i glad i did. Before i knew it , it was 1am and i was still reading. I do not want to give anything away, so i will just say it is well written. The characters are unique and interesting. and the story flow very smoothly. You will find yourself reaching the end of the book and wishing there was more.. I highly recommend it. Read it and enjoy
