Time doesn’t always heal a broken heart. Sometimes the only thing it does is fill the darkness with more shadows, more pain.
Dylan Thomas has spent the past decade living in the shadows, mourning the loss of his wife, his best friend, his very reason for breathing. He long ago accepted that he would never feel again, that he was damned to a world without light, without hope. That was the day the bottle won, and he gave himself over to the darkness.
Until the one night that rocked his brittle, crumbling world on its axis. She told him what they shared was simply a distraction, a way to forget for a little while. It would’ve been, except the tiny glimpse of how it feels to live again, to feel again, gives him the strength he needs to pull himself up by his boot straps. But sobriety comes one day at a time, and three years later may be three years too late.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Nicole Edwards spends her days stringing words together to make complete sentences. Sometimes not. Her best friend is coffee, and she has a love/hate relationship with sarcasm. She’s been accused of having a filthy imagination, which she admits is true.
Nicole lives in the suburbs of Austin, Texas. She proudly claims one husband, three grown children, and two bosses (better known as the dogs). When she isn’t writing, watching football or hockey, or keeping her bosses happy, you can probably find her with a book in hand.
Everyone that knows me, also knows that I like doing shit ass backwards. So it shouldn't be a surprise that I started this series with the last book.
I didn't matter though, because this book can be read as a stand alone without getting lost. I have read many of Nicole Edwards's books and the one thing I am always sure of even before I start reading, is that it's gonna be HOT as hell !! This book was no exception. Dylan was quite the dirty talker !!
That however, is not all what this book is about. This book carries a more emotional undertone, than most of her other books.
Dylan has been mouring the loss of his wife for many years. He has been struggeling with depression and trying to find peace of mind at the bottom of a bottle. He has been surrounded by darkness for a long time. That is until one fierce woman from his past, shines a little light on him.
Sarah is fighting her own demons. Her husband comitted suicide, leaving Sarah heartbroken and angry. One encounter with a man from her past, gives her back some hope. One hot encounter against the wall, doesn't heal their broken souls though.
Sarah realises that she can't heal Dylan and take away his pain. He has to want and do this by himself. So Sarah decides to work on herself instead...she has had enough and she doesn't want to be lost anymore.
Fast forward 3 years and these two get another chance to be with each other. This time they both had time to work on themselves and they are both a little less broken. They agree to fresh start, taking things day by day. This leads to some explosive hot scenes between the two of them and even a foursome !!
I really enjoyed this one, though I have to say that the MM and MMF books that Nicole Edwards has written are still my favorite. For those who want to know...yes there is an MFMM scene, but there is no sexual interaction between men....
I was also very pleased with the fact that there is gonna be another spin-off, very curious to see where that's gonna go.
Although I'm sad to know this is the last book in this series, it was undoubtedly spectacular. This woman's writing is off the charts. This book was so emotional for me. I couldn't wait for Dylan to have his time to shine. The H/h's characters in this book are so spot on. I savoured every emotion, every kiss, every argument, every passion...all of it. I didn't want it to end. But as usual this author isn't leaving us hanging! I'm going to be a mess waiting for Trent's book! I can't wait! Oh and I must add....this cover, yah....I love it!!!
It's always bittersweet starting a story knowing it's the last in it's series. We've been waiting for Dylan's story for awhile and I'm so glad it wasn't rushed as it's the perfect ending to this series.
This is an emotionally heavy book from the start, we all knew it was going to have to be with Dylan's history. He's a character I've never been that sure about, I always felt terribly sorry for him but I can honestly say I wasn't sure if I was interested in his story. I'm so glad I've taken the time to read it as it's a beautiful story.
Sarah has just as much of a tragic past as Dylan, I think we needed that for him so that she could truly understand the reasons for the way he's lived his life.
For me it took a little while to get into the story because of the emotional depth you go into with these two from the start. It's quite heavy going for awhile but once the two really start to interact I found that I couldn't put it down.
Sarah's a really interesting character, although she's been through so much I loved that she decided enough was enough and she was going to make the changes in her life so that she could move forward without Dylan. She's really tough, full of love and compassion. I really enjoyed that she wasn't the sweet innocent wallflower that others seemed to think she was. She's up for spicing things up sexually and shaking off that good girl image. I loved her interaction with Trent, the scene came across so true to real life, it really made me chuckle.
Dylan was a lot stronger than those around him gave him credit for. I can't imagine what he been going through but it seems like he had got tired of feeling so down, he'd hit rock bottom so the only way was up. I loved how protective he was of Sarah, and he seemed to be taking a much more active role within his own family.
It was good to have a little glimpse at some of the old characters from the previous books, his sister irritated me a little at times but I guess when you've been on the receiving end of someone's anger for such a long time it's hard to let go and really trust them again. I loved the interaction with Nate and Jake, that's a story I'm really looking forward too.
The sex was everything we come to expect from Nicole. Super hot and super sexy! The connection between these two was enthralling, I loved how passionate they are for each other. The biggest sex scene was amazing, even though those sort of scenes are the norm in most of the books in this series it was still really fresh and unique. Will definitely get u all worked up and tingly in the right places.
It's a fabulous ending to the series and I'm very much looking forward to Trent's story.
OMG!!!! Freaking loved this book! It's the last in this series and an emotional story. I laughed and even cried a little. * Plenty of wall banging, back scratching sex. Plus four way sex.* Be prepared for a cold shower. Sarah is a widow who's husband committed suicide. Dylan is a widower who's wife died of cancer. They went to high school together and dated for a few months. They have a one night stand three years after Sarah's husband died and eight years after Dylan's wife died. They didn't see or speak for three years after. Dylan has been sober for three years. After his encounter with Sarah he knew he needed to change. Sarah realized she couldn't fix everyone so she worked on herself. Now they run into each other at Dylan's company party. Then he runs into her at Devotion, a sex club. She goes away for the weekend with a guy she has been dating and he surprises her with a trip to a sex club! She is furious and Dylan takes her back to her hotel. From there on they start seeing each other. He opens her to a whole new world. They have their ups and downs but as always love can conquer anything. * I was given a copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it *
Distraction by Nicole Edwards is the final book in the Club Destiny series, but don't worry, in true Nicole fashion, there's a spin off coming! Nicole Edwards and Club Destiny was my first introduction to polyamory. Once I got a taste of it and Nicole's book, I was hooked. Distraction has more emotion than some of her other stories. It's full of heart, heat, sex, family and love. I laughed, cried, got hot and bothered and didn't want it to end. We've known Dylan for a while. He suffered the loss of his wife and he never truly got over it. Sarah also suffered the loss of her husband and she's trying to put it behind her. Dylan and Sarah have known each other for years. They dated briefly in high school, but things just didn't work out. They remained friends over the years, but when one night three years ago leads to lustful, emotional sex against the wall, Sarah writes it off as just a distraction on Dylan's part and they go their separate ways. Dylan spirals out of control while Sarah changes her life drastically. Three years later, they finally come face to face. None of the heat they felt for each other has dissipated, but some of the guilt has. Dylan felt guilty for walking out on her. Sarah was the only woman to make him feel something and he should have fought harder, but he was so caught up in his own loss, he couldn’t find a way out. Sarah never really felt guilty for being with Dylan, but she was still angry with her husband for leaving her. Death of a love can truly alter your way off thinking. It's never easy to get over but Dylan and Sarah both want to move on and they want to do it together. Can they finally leave the past in the past and have a future together? Can Sarah trust Dylan after all these years? I LOVED this story! Dylan is so much more than I thought he would be. He's smart and sexy, but he's haunted. But, he's learned to control his demons and wants to be happy. And, I love that he's forty two! Yes! Sarah is sassy and funny and together they are perfect. Their chemistry is off the charts and the one night of passion they share with twin brothers has me fanning myself! Overall, it's a story of sadness that can overtake you, but you have to fight to get out. You have to want to move forward and live for yourself, your family and friends. You're never alone if you allow those around you to help alleviate the pain and the burden. It's a second chance love story with a bumpy road that eventually leads to bliss. Thank you Nicole for Club Destiny. I can't wait for what's next!
A do-over. Fuck being a damn distraction. Dylan wanted to be this woman's everything
"I thought we'd start with an orgasm." "For you or me?" "For both of us." "Hmm. An equal opportunity lover. I like that about you." "I certainly aim to please."
Everything happens for a reason, sometimes we know that reason right away, sometimes not. Sometimes never at all. I have been waiting for this book for a long time, longer than I thought it should have taken. When you read the note from Nicole Edwards at the beginning of this book, she explains the delay and work it took to write this story. This story took exactly the time needed to write it, and I’m that much more grateful for it.
In separate circumstances, Dylan and Sarah both have lost their spouses, and we see how they both deal with the depression stemming from those tragedies. With lots of help, Sarah is working through that loss, and with the help of her family and friends is making a great life for herself. Dylan—as we’ve read in previous Club Destiny books—is going the route of alcohol and lashing out. Dylan thinks the life he has is the one he’ll always have, and he’s accepted that he’ll never be happy again. Until he and Sarah share an encounter that rocks him and scares the crap out of him. Not wanting to bring her into his darkness, he avoids her...for three years.
Sarah wants Dylan, but she’s not going to chase after someone who doesn’t want her. She’s gone on some dates, and is seemingly happy, but she just can’t seem to shake Dylan. Dylan wants Sarah, but he refuses to offer her more than friendship. He doesn’t think she can handle his dark desires, and he doesn’t want to take away her sunshine. What Dylan soon realizes is that Sarah has some unexpected proclivities, and is very strong, and despite what she’s gone through, she hasn’t given up on living. Although Sarah feels differently, she agrees to Dylan’s proposition of them being a “distraction” from their sadness. They both quickly realize that what they have is so much more than a temporary fix for the darkness in their lives, and it scares them both. Could they face their pasts to forge a future together?
Surrounding Dylan and Sarah was a supporting series of stories that complemented theirs. I really felt like I was in this town seeing and feeling everything right along with everyone else. If you’re familiar with the Club Destiny series, you know there will be lots of steamy scenes, and you won’t be disappointed. You’ll also be pleased with those familiar faces that show up to give Distraction and this series a great sendoff.
This book had me running the gamut of emotions. It drained me, and left me with happy thoughts.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book, and I give it five stars.
5 Star Review Distraction (Club Destiny #8) by Nicole Edwards
Distraction is Dylan and Sarah's story and was a book that was a long time in coming, not only for us the readers, but for Ms. Edwards, who has made no secret of the fact that she suffers from depression. This was one of my most anticipated reads for 2017 and I was not disappointed.
Having read Distraction in virtually one read, I can understand how much this book could and would have impacted Ms. Edwards and the writing process. This book confronts issues of depression, alcoholism, guilt and fear, that many of us have had to deal with in real life from both sides of the fence and was at times difficult for me to read. Having said that, the subject matter was handled with integrity and although at times the rawness and the grittiness of the emotion and pain had me in tears, it was extremely well written; the layers that Ms. Edwards built throughout this book, were slowly peeled away, just like an onion, allowing love to blossom for Dylan and Sarah. This book got to me and touched me deeply on so many levels; it was an emotional and riveting read, a roller-coaster of a ride.
Of course being a Nicole Edwards book the chemistry between Dylan and Sarah was off the charts and it most certainly led to some steamy scenes, throw in some BDSM and I was always going to be hooked. However for me, this book primarily was a true love story, of overcoming fears, of acceptance, not only of others but of ourselves and with hard work and determination how a person can triumph.
Distraction is the final book in Nicole Edwards Club Destiny series, a series that holds a special place in my heart. Conviction, book one in the series, was my introduction to Nicole Edwards and her wonderful writing. Not only did I find books and characters that I fell in love with, but I found a whole group of sisters. We may not be blood related but we are sisters, in fact several off us from across three continents all got a Celtic sisterhood tattoo and I hold Nicole Edwards responsible for this, as we all met in her original Nicole Nation group. They are my inked sisters and I will always be grateful to Nicole Edwards for bringing us together.
Well done Nicole Edwards, what a fitting conclusion to one of my favourite series.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book.
Nicole Edwards you have not disappointed me. I remember when I first met Dylan and he was so angry and wounded, I kept wondering how can he be happy again, what and who would it take to make him see that he's alive and there is joy to be had, and Sarah did not disappoint as his angel. I have to say Dylan and Sarah has taken hold of a piece of my heart and their journeys to get to their happily ever after was so emotional and deeply rewarding. Your honesty in the displaying all the symptoms of being someone that is suffering from depression was so well thought of and so informative that the reader has no choice but to be drawn in. Your characters are so real and you make reading about them so enjoyable that you as a reader sometimes forget that it's a book and certainly not real. Even though this story takes us on the side of taboo, and maybe totally outside the box I would certainly recommend that you read this story. The content is amazing and real. They've both suffered such great losses (for him his wife died from cancer and for her husband committed suicide), that for many can be very devastating. They both had to be able to dig deep in order to find themselves again and work towards being able to be happy without the guilt. For Dylan his one "distracted" night with Sarah was the catalyst that made him decide to stop his downward spiral and try to be a better person. Sarah who was always the "fixer" decides that she's going to start putting herself first. When these two decide to come together again they find that for once they both can truly be who they are without judgment and apologies. Dylan and Sarah's story was so much more than their sexual preferences, their scenes together were hot steamy and well connected but add in Christian and Tristan and that scene just went to a whole other level. ( Hot, hotter and hottest can't even do that scene justice) Everyone needs to read it to experience it and you should definitely experience it over and over again.. If you are looking for a series where you can meet some, real, honest, emotional, complex, and likeable characters this is definitely the series for you. Do not be afraid of some of the sexual preferences in this series as it is tasteful and well written. Total 10 STAR read and great ending to yet another series. *****NICOLE EDWARDS YOU ROCK TO THE MOON AND BACK!!!*****
The final book in the Club Destiny series, Distraction can be read as a standalone.
Sarah and Dylan have both had a past filled with loss and despair and while Sarah hid herself away, Dylan found his coping mechanism at the bottom of a bottle. Having once been a short term romance at high school, both had gone down different paths and found other loves. It is the loss of their spouses that took them to separate lives. However after both their tragedies they were brought back into the same circle but when the budding new friendship was cut short after a misunderstanding after a passion filled joining they separated again. However three years later it looked like fate was a knocking on their door again.
This was a deeply emotive and thought provoking book that dealt with two serious issues – alcoholism and mental health. It made you consider what could happen in life and the repercussions of loss. But there was redemption in the storyline and even though there were lots of heartache and pain there was also lots of second chance romance and passion.
The pairing between the two was tangible and you could feel the electricity and chemistry between Sarah and Dylan. I was so connected to both characters and I was rooting for them to heal and find love again.
Sarah was one tough cookie who was overly harsh on herself at the start but then she took life by the nuts and rejuvenated herself to not be the doormat anymore. She learns to love life again and goes out for what she wants. Dylan was one hot but vulnerable man who I just fell in love with from the start. The way he turned his life around after over a decade of pain was devastating. When he says that final goodbye to his wife at the grave had me in buckets.
This was another fabulous read from Ms Edwards and one that really pulled at the heart strings. It is sad that this is the end of the series but one that is a definite read again to treasure. Five glorious stars.

~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads Review Team~ I love this series, you don’t need to read others in the series to read this one but you do miss some back story if you don’t. This book deals with depression, which the author herself has. I will say at times I found myself skimming the book, it was too wordy at times, I know why it was too wordy but it was just too much for my liking. I like more dialogue in my books, I don’t like all the banter inside someone’s head, especially when it is the same thing over and over again. Again, I know this is part of the story and the disease being discussed, just not my thing. Once Dylan and Sarah got their lives back on track and started to live the book was very good. There wasn’t much once you got past all the depression, just a lot of sex. I love sex and the sex scenes were awesome, that was actually the only time I felt the characters connect, other than that, I didn’t feel a connection between them. The scene with Chris and Tristian was HOT. This is the last Club Destiny book, I am sad to see the series end but I am looking forward to the spin off series with Trent. Characters: well written Sex: yes there is a M/F/M/M scene Religious: no Would I recommend to others: yes More than one book in the series: yes Genre: Romance Would I read more by this author: yes ~Wicked Reads Review Team~
I don't even know where to start...I loved this story. I couldn't put it down but more than that it would let me. The MCs were broken in their own eyes but simply shattered in mine. The loses they experienced previously is so raw that you fully understand that there life being a mess. I loved that it wasn't a story about how these two fixed each other or love overcoming all but rather what is like to let a single moment change your course. They had the same defining moment that lead them both on a healing path. I loved it. I also loved how freaking hot this was!!!! I mean I love the whole sex club theme. But it wasn't the focus really. It really was about these two awesome people who have a past and fall in love. I'll admit to not being a huge fan of Sarah at the start but she grew on me. And Dylan was fantastic! Ugh I need more. And I hope Nate and jake get a book too
This book is extremely emotional and at times very heavy but it is so worth reading. I've been waiting for Dylan's story and it was definitely worth it.
Absolutely fantastic end to the series, can't wait for the spin off and Trent's story. This book had me crying, laughing, shaking my head, and a whole bunch of other emotions. Nicole definitely did Dylan story justice, and it was definitely worth the wait.
Wow what a great ending to this series!! This book was smoking hot! Dylan and his mouth the way he talks to Sarah ... and that one scene ( wow, fanning myself) holy shit ! Not only was it hot , but a tearjerker in parts also as we learn about their past! Definitely a must read! Loved it!
I'm kind of sad really that this story is the last in the Club Destiny series! This book has been a long time coming and I'm so excited it's here!! It touches on some rather sad subjects but doesn't detract from the overall storyline! Yes it's a bit dreary at the start but the characters have both been through something so incredibly difficult you cannot help but feel for as well as sympathise with them!! But as you keep on reading, there is a real sense of family and friendships not to forget the incredible Heat coming off the pages too!!!!
What I enjoyed was the connections made, the cameos of other characters from the series and I'm really looking forward to the spin off series as well. Dylan, is a recovering alcoholic since the death of his soul mate and wife. Sarah is still hung up on her husband dying. They are both still hooked on their devastating pasts.... this book is emotional but also there is beautiful connection evolving when they figure out their true feelings for each other! So many feelings from both Dylan and Sarah, turmoil too, as they decide whether they should be happy or not, what would their passed spouses think??
There is a moment when the proverbial heat in Nicole's books turns it up in such a high notch you may sizzle or explode too!! Oh my goodness indeed!!! A truly wonderful ending to the series! If you haven't read them yet make a start as you will not regret it and your significant other will love you for it, I'm sure of that!!! Wink wink!
DISTRACTION is the eighth and final installment of Nicole Edwards “Alluring Indulgence” series. I have been waiting for Dylan’s story since I read his sister’s Ashleigh’s story, “Seduction”, in 2012, and this book did not disappoint. It is heartwrenching and erotic. The prologue is enthralling. Distraction is a stand alone novel but as with all serial novels, it is better to read the whole series as characters from the earlier novels play important roles.
Dylan is a tortured soul experiencing extensive grief over the loss of his beloved wife. Sarah is also emotionally tortured from her husband’s death but experiences not only grief but anger from his suicide.
Dylan and Sarah had briefly dated in highschool before moving on to other relationships; but the attraction between these two remained. When they finally succumb to their attraction they dismiss it and call it a distraction to their grief. The chemistry between these two characters is erotic and hot but is it enough to become a guide to self healing, love and eventual relationship? Can they forgive themselves and finally love and commit to each other?
Their story is an excellent conclusion to the Club Destiny series and an intriguing opening to a new series. Nicole Edward’s books tackle difficult and sensitive topics with grace, understanding, love and acceptance. The sex is erotic. As with all Nicole Edward books, “Distraction” is a must read!
I knew this book was going to wring me out emotionally and I couldn't have been more right. This book has so many emotions through it from like, lust, love, depression, anger, alcoholism, guilt, acceptance, etc. I mean, you name it, it's in there.
Dylan and Sarah's story is hauntingly beautiful. When life knocks you down, you have to pull yourself up by the boot straps, never give up. Even if you struggle, know that you can do it. You have to believe in yourself and have a support system that will help you when needed.
These two have been through so much and it's a struggle to be who they were meant to be. It was a hard road to get there but they take it day by day. What started as friends many years ago grows into so much more. They've both known love and loss, can they get past that to look for a future or will it always hold them hostage? Can they be who each other needs to be more than just a distraction?
The heat between these two is CRAZY HOT and I now want to read the whole series again. Can't wait for the spin off from this series!
The author has such a way with story telling that you're part of the story. You're transported out of your world and put into theirs. I have never been disappointed with a book from this author and I can't thank her enough for her stories.
Dylan's book was a long time coming but Nicole Edwards knows how to make it an exceptional book. Being that this book draws on a huge amount of Nicole's personal experience with depression, she has brought this book justice by bringing the suffering of depression in the open.
Dylan's book might be the last book in the series but it has brought a great segue into the next book of a new series for Trent. This book shows that time can't heal all wounds but the right person with you at the right time in your life can help you navigate through the rest of your life with some ease.
Sarah has suffered loss in her life as well and can have an understanding of what Dylan feels. Sarah has always had some feelings for Dylan but doesn't want to be used as a Distraction anymore in his life. Sarah has her own issues to work through and is getting there.
Both Dylan and Sarah compliment each other and can support the other person when they get into a state and know that they are there for the other person.
Nicole has written one of her best books by far and it was probably one of the hardest for her to write.
I was given a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review - Naughty Book Eden
I'm a big fan of Nicole Edwards when it comes to erotica novels. I loved Club Destiny series. This book didn't make the favorites shelve, but it was ok. I loved how strong the heroine was, especially falling in love with a man who was been crying for 11 year for his dead wife. I don't think I would have that power in me. Dylan and Sarah's story is full of obstacles (because of him), but there's a happy ending. It has a few of super hot moments, like the M/F/M/M scene, but there's drama too. I'm close to saying this was a slow burn, just because i kept waiting for everything to fall into place and them to be ok and happy. I hated how Dylan waiting for so long to declare his intentions towards Sarah and to say "i love you".
Being such a huge fan of Nicole Edwards books, I have waited and read patiently through the whole series with so many questions about Dylan. Like, Will he have his own book?, who will he be paired with?, What is his story and Who will bring him out of his funk? Nicole delivered in a big way and answered all my questions and then some. This book was scorching HOT with a little MFM thrown in. Yes, it is the last book of this series but it is just the beginning of something great!! I so loved it!! Looking forward to many more books to come!

I was so excited and sad to receive this book, I knew it was the end of a series I love so much. I was on the verge of tears throughout most of this story and hot and bothered the other half. Dylan and Sarah both lost their spouses and were both struggling with living their lives day by day. After many years these two reconnected and became friends and then something happened to undo that. Three more years pass by and they run into each other again. I truly loved this story and I could feel each emotions these two were feeling. I love ow Nicole pulls you in and doesn't let you go until the end. I did not want this one to end, I was so into the book that it ended before I knew the end was coming. This is a very emotional read and I definitely recommend this one.
Nicole Edwards out done herself again the final book in her Club Destiny series. If you ever meet her cover model Alfie he was definitely her Dylan Thomas, I heard his voice throughout this book. Yes depression is a serious issue and Nicole made this very much part of this book. Dylan lost his wife and had a serious issue with it and Sarah also had someone in her life with a bi polar disorder that took his own life. But with all that happened in their life's they found each other again. Now what is life without a distraction. Thank you for such an awesome book!!
What a beautiful story about Dylan and Sarah. Two people ravaged by grief turn to each other to find love and comfort. The characters are so well developed and believable. Well done as always.....love this author.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Dylan Thomas has suffered and has been mourning the loss of his wife for a decade now. He knows that he will never feel again. That is world would no longer be filled with light or hope. Until one night when what was suppose to be a distraction, a way to forget for a while turned him upside down and his world titled on its axis. He's finally able to pull himself up by his boot straps and live again. Sobriety though comes one day at at time, and three years may be three to late.
Oh my goodness. I can't tell you how much I have love this entire Club Destiny Series. I discovered Indie books and not long after that I experienced may first in my reading life with this series of books by Nicole Edwards. They will always and forever hold a special place in my heart and I will never ever forget them.
If you've read any of the books in the Club Destiny Series you've met Dylan before. We have gotten glimpses of him in several other books and I have always been so curious about him and waiting for his story. I knew it would be an emotional one and one that would steal my heart. Nicole Edwards did not disappoint. Dylan and Sarah are both such amazing characters. They in the past were friends and actually dated twenty years ago. However, they have more in common than either one of them realizes. Both have experienced the loss of a spouse and different forms of depression. Both needing a distraction and never fully expecting anything from one another they have a night of passion and do not see each other again for three years. Three years worth of dealing with there depressions and healing in their own ways. Thus begins for me an emotional story with one of the hottest scenes I have ever read in a book. Both these characters are amazing ones alone but throw them together and add a couple of other things and they are down right explosive.
Nicole Edwards never ever fails to write a story I don't fall in love with. With this being the last book in her Club Destiny Series, she could not have ended it any better or more perfect than with Dylan and Sarah's story. Distraction is a must not miss. Read it as soon as it's on your kindle for me. I'm so glad that Nicole Edwards wrote this series and shared all these characters that now feel like family with the rest of us. I am going to miss this but am so thankful they came into my world. They will live forever in my heart. I look so forward to reading any and everything that Nicole Edwards writes for the rest of my life.
Dylan and Sarah’s journey to happiness in Distraction is a multilayered process…one that actually started three years ago, after Dylan used her body and never looked back. During that timeframe, Dylan and Sarah focused on their own lives, working through their grief, processing the pain and anger they’ve never truly dealt with and finding a way to manage the overwhelming feelings of loss and abandonment that constantly threaten to consume them and break them even further.
Thankfully, Dylan and Sarah refuse to allow those fissures to fracture further, acknowledging that life is meant to be lived, not only for those who love them, but also for themselves. Three years later, both of them are a work-in-progress when they reappear in each other’s lives, and while they’re still not completely fixed, they’re tired of being broken and vow to move forward, perhaps only in baby steps, but it’s enough to give them hope that they can carry on despite losing their other half.
Neither Dylan nor Sarah want to jump into a relationship; they’re still too raw and too afraid to put their hearts into the hands of someone else, but that doesn’t negate the magnetic pull they’ve always felt for each other or their desire to experience and explore their sexual sides with one another, and perhaps with that connection, they can learn to allow love in again and take a chance on something that will make them feel alive again.
Distraction is definitely an emotional read, and it’s one that requires readers’ patience as well as empathy. Even though it’s clear that Dylan and Sarah have feelings for each other, there are still obstacles to combat and feelings of insecurity and guilt to contend with, which means that the path they take will not lead them straight into a relationship. There will be abrupt stops as well as back peddling due to the overwhelming emotions involved in moving past the grief and moving forward with someone else. But what is made clear, despite the second guessing and moments of doubt, is that Dylan and Sarah have a lot to offer one another and as long as they’re willing to be open and honest, they just might be able to mold their past with their present, offering them both a future of happiness and no regrets.
Dylan and Sarah’s story is soul bearing as well as sexually freeing, and Nicole Edwards takes her readers on Dylan and Sarah’s journey to illustrate the steps of grief, the grips of depression, and the freedom of acceptance and self-transformation.
4.5 Poison Apples (The Fairest of All Book Reviews)
Thoughtful and sexy, an emotional end to a great series… A series end is always bittersweet for me and this one provided the emotional gut-punch that I hoped for (and dreaded). Dylan’s story was a long, hard road and Sarah could be seen as his salvation. Sarah wasn’t heart-whole either, though, so this was not going to be a simple romance… With both coming from places of deep loss their journey together was going to be a mine field – and I felt every high cloud and low bump on the way… Dylan: “Dylan wanted to be this woman’s everything.” Sarah: “Dylan Thomas was a ghost from her past, one that she fully intended to leave there.” I love this author’s writing style – whether it is steamy, uber-sexy love scenes or contemplative inner monologues, her characters find the right touch, the right note to invite you into the pages to feel their emotions. Dylan struggled for a very long time and you could feel the toll it continued to take on him. Sarah’s problems were not in the past either though she dealt with her grief differently. They were broken yet healing and their journey was going to change yet again as they found each other once more. Love is very personal and their story was certainly that as they fought their own demons to find each other… People are confusing and when they are in love? It is quiet chaos and this author blends that blessed messiness into a story with all the feels… “Quit thinking so much. I know it’s hard…” There will be more – there is a spin-off in the works – but I’m going to just sit and contemplate this series end for a while. I will think back on theses love stories - the highs and lows, the emotional battles lost and won, the sexiness and the laughter – that surrounded these unforgettable characters. Yes, I’ll think on it a while before starting to read again from the beginning…
