Star Catcher

It seemed like a good plan ... gather females from the planet Earth to be surrogates on a planet where no children have been born in twenty years. Kimber Vale spins a hilarious, sexy, sci-fi romance that will tickle your funny bone.

Lust flares hot and bright when Stella Aims’ world collides with the gorgeous and mysterious Noth Zobor. The tall dark stranger doesn’t speak a word of English, but Stella is happy to teach him everything she knows, including a crash course in the universal language of love. Their passion burns down to sweet and smoldering before Stella’s reality is completely spun around.

People aren’t always what they seem—but what if they aren’t even human?

Concerned that Noth’s been lying to her, Stella searches for him and walks into a trap straight out of a nightmare. When she wakes, she finds the real deception was far worse than she ever suspected, and her lover is not at all what he seems. Forgiving him might be the easiest thing Stella has to do, because getting out alive and saving her fellow humans from captivity and experimentation will be the toughest challenge of her life.

Can lovers from two different planets overcome forces that push them galaxies apart? When the fate of two species hangs in the balance, love may be the only thing strong enough to save them all and give hope for a new future.

Kimber Vale is an avid reader, writer, and gardener. She worked as an RN once upon a time, but is currently a stay-at-home mom to three busy hobbits. She is fortunate to have an understanding husband who never refuses to help with her writing research. He answers questions like, “What do you think eyeballs taste like?” and “Does the term ‘cock-rockets’ sound more like a joke or an explosively good time?” with equal consideration and without blinking.

Kimber enjoys crafting in a number of genres, including MM (under K. Vale) as well as straight erotic romance, and the occasional horror, bizarro, or sci/fi. Dark themes frequently creep their way into her stories, but she loves a good romance and is sure to give her MCs their much-deserved happily-ever-after once she is done abusing them.

Star Catcher has a very promising premise. An alien race must look to their planetary neighbors in hopes of saving the race due to reproductive complications that are threatening extinction. The Artanians haven’t carried a pregnancy to term in so long this threat has them looking at the close genetic match of the humans for a surrogacy program.

After seeing the heartache his sister suffers due to her inability to conceive Noth (it’s a double namesake) makes it his life’s work to discover a remedy to the problem that is plaguing the entire planet. They have spent several years planning for both the medical care of the surrogates and the capture and containment of the humans.

After a whirlwind affair with Noth, who she believes is a foreign student who is studying at the same university Stella is in awe that she has found the perfect man. He is the type of caring and compassionate man she has dreamed of her whole life. The fact that his has the most amazing skills in the bedroom is just icing on her impeccable mancake. She knows that he must return home soon, but they know what they have is a once in a lifetime thing so she agrees to wait for his return.

Most of my reads are dark and violent. It’s what I enjoy. Stella’s exuberance shines off the pages. She is one of those people who make the best out of any situation. She is very well matched to Noth. He has left his home planet to find a viable solution to his planets infertility problems. Insert aliens abducting humans for a breeding program and the happy couple with a dire situation felt off. Noth is a good man, a caring soul, so he was doing everything in his power to right the wrong, but the happy and horrific did not provide a good contrast for me.

My Rating: ❤❤❤½
GOOD: The characteristics of a 3 heart book include: interesting characters, a decent storyline, and unique story elements; there was something about the story that I didn’t completely connect with; the book is a solid read. I would recommend it to a friend.
My Thoughts:
Star Catcher was an interesting story but definitely not my usual fare since I don't read much sci-fi or fantasy-ish type stories. Despite my aversion to those types of books, I think Ms. Vale did an excellent job creating a steamy sci-fi romance with unique characters and an interesting storyline. I really liked Noth and Stella. Their romance happened at a fast and furious pace but I appreciate the reason for it. The last third or so of the book stood on the foundation of the quick-fire romance and relationship between Noth and Stella. If not for their love and passion, things would have totally fallen apart. I do like the unexpected twist with the fertility issue. That was a pleasant surprise.

I definitely recommend Star Catcher to romance readers who love a bit of futuristic fantasy with their romance. The story was sweet, sexy, and well written.

While I do enjoy a deep Sci-Fi with an intricate and creative worldbuilding, once in a while I want a change. This was a fun and fast alien romance that doesn't take itself seriously. It was great for a lighter, low-angst and high smex read.

Noth's alien race is dying off since his people are dealing with infertility. They search for an alternate answer and discover the race known as humans are compatible. A plan is made to gather a group of human females and experiment with artificial insemination. Noth is the point man who will go to earth and set things up. His plans are derailed a little when he meets and becomes attracted to a sunny, spunky human girl. Will she ever forgive him when she learns what he is doing? Stella thinks she has found the man of her dreams and everything is perfect that is until she discovers that her perfect man isn't even human.

The story is told from alternate points of view. I liked the plot, but it is definitely not one for those who take their Sci-Fi seriously. However, it is the book for those who love hot, sexy alien heroes and tender-hearted human heroines. I liked both characters and I enjoyed their backstories. It was amusing following along as Noth learned human culture and language from Stella.

I can recommend this who like their stories lighter on the sci-fi and heavier on the spicy romance.

This was a fun way to pass an afternoon. I really liked Noth and Stella, and their steamy relationship build up. I wasn't sure how the breeding program was going to end up, and even at the finish of the book I am not sure how well it will go down with the human females on earth, but I definitely want to read more *crosses fingers Kimber Vale will make this a series*. Overall, this novella was a well written and sexy read.

I'm all for a little sci -fi action, but this was a little lackluster. I liked the heroine Stella though. She had spirit, she was very straight forward with Noth-she thought he was hot and wanted to sleep with him. She wasn't looking for love, but of course that's what she found. Noth was a quick learner to the ways of Earth women-their wants and needs- he didn't waste any time falling for Stella. Krael was great as the villain too. Its refreshing for an alien woman to be the "bad guy." It just fell short the in the plot department. Noth is a the medical director studying/researching female infertility within his race -the Artanians. Krael captures unsuspecting females from Earth for experimentation-with the intent to destroy those found unable to breed.Stella somehow becomes a part of this kidnapped group, and her and Noth find a way out. There isn't much action or intrigue-I would have liked to read more about Rayna- but overall the story was okay. 3*
