I love to read books and poetry, along with writing them. What can be more fun than putting on paper stories you develop in your mind?
Although I've written stories for years, it's just recently that I decided to try self-publishing.
My first novel 'Always' was published on Oct 2012. It is a fantasy/romance story that takes place in England.
In July 2013 I published a book of poetry Stepping Stones. In Dec 2013 I published my second novel, The Lone Hero and my first children's rhyme book. Continuing to publish, in 2015 I published the first of the Dimidium series, also a fantasy/romance story about a race that's half human and half vampire.
I've also added fantasy stories to two horror books, When the Lights Go Out and Strange Portals.
I was born and raised in Ohio and now live in the scenic state of Utah. I attended BYU-Idaho where I received my Associate Degree in humanities (French and German), BYU-Hawaii where I received my Bachelor Degree in Mand Chinese & Chinese History, and did 3 yrs of graduate school in Chinese & Linguistics.

Wow! I am speechless! This book was amazing! it will make you laugh, it will make you cry, it will make you read and read until you are done because there is no way you are putting the book down. Always is a truly romantic and wistful story about family, friendship and what it really means to eternally love.

On the Other side two lovers Einarr and Katura decide to return to earth for another life lesson. They have been to earth plenty of times before and the last time was especially hard and Einarr is skeptical about returning for once they return they will no longer remember anything of their former lives and this time they have agreed to one challenge that may be to big for them both to overcome-a 20 year age difference.

Simon Umbrige is a 36 year old antique dealer and an very upstanding fellow. He leads a very uncomplicated life and he likes it that way. He and his butler Lester travel constantly all over the world collecting rare and beautiful antiques and every minute of his life is scheduled, that is until April Adams comes into his life.

April Adams is 16 years old and has been in love with Simon her whole life. She is part of the eccentric Duffy family and now that she is 16 she is determined to show Simon she isn't a little girl anymore. With the help of her Wiccan best friend Telulla and her quirky great-aunt Tilli she is determined to show her Uncle Dixon, Simon's best friend, and Simon that they are destined, that they are for ALWAYS.

Simon and April are both determined not to give in but fate has other plans for them and you can't fight with destiny. Simon finally admits his attraction for April but wants no part of her because he believes her a child. Will it take the whole crazy Duffy family to bring Simon to his senses? or will April loose her eternal lover in this life?

Always is an epic story! I couldn't put it down! be ready to cry and laugh and cry and laugh some more. D.M. Yates is a superb writer! and I was entranced from the very first word. I read the whole book in a couple of hours. I can't wait for more as I would defiantly read more of this authors work! A must read for one and all!

Always tells the story of two souls who have been intertwined for many lifetimes and are now incarnated as Simon, a lone wolf who refuses to get close to anyone and April, the teenage niece of Simon's best friend. When April sets her sights on Simon, he rejects her for many reasons: her age, her immaturity and the vehemence with which his best friend, April's uncle, forbids their relationship. But, if love can transcend time and dimensions, it can also overcome such obstacles.

The story of their current incarnation is woven together with their previous one, as well as the time they spend in between "lives" in the great beyond. By seeing the full picture, you get to understand not only Simon, but the other characters as well, and see how their various relationships play out. Not to mention the sweet love story between Simon and April - who doesn't stay a child for long!

I've heard that the author is planning more books to follow this and I am looking forward to them!

April believes that she and Simon are meant to be. She pursues him at great length even though she is a teenager and he is in his 30s. Their families are connected not only now, but also for always. The reader learns that the characters we are reading about have been through life with each other many times before and that they have bonds which are thousands of years old.

When I first started reading Always by DM Yates I had some difficulty with the fact that April was a teenager and Simon was in his 30s and they had this connection. Simon did not do the pursuing, that was all April. It made it easier that they decided to wait to do anything until April became of legal age. Even then they took things slowly. I felt like I knew the characters Simon, Dixon, April, Jesse, and all the other family members very well. The author did a great job developing each character with their own personality traits and intertwining their stories. Always has parts that made me laugh and parts that made me sad. I like that it made me think, especially about the people that are in our lives and if they have been in our lives in the past. It seems that the people in this book use phrases and expressions with people that they also used with the same people in past lives, which I thought was very interesting. It was definitely a story that was different from other books I have read. I enjoyed the story and the fact that it made me think. This is the first in a series and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

What is eternity? Where do we go when our lives are over? You may get some insight to the answers to those questions by following the lives of Simon Umbridge, April Adams and the Duffs of Ockbecking, England. Simon is a globetrotting business owner in his late thirties, whose best friend, Dixon Duff, provides most of his entertainment while he is home. April is a sixteen year old from America, who spends summers with her great aunt Tillie, a fun-loving widow who lives in Ockbecking. April is in love with her Uncle Dixon’s best friend and feels she is ordained to marry him, but both Dixon and Simon think her feelings are nothing more than a childish crush. We follow these people through their lives as they are guided to their destinies by the likes of witches and angels and a host of loving relatives.

DM Yates does a marvelous job in “Always” of mapping out the lives of the irrepressible Duff family and their life-long friend Simon Umbridge. It will not take you long as you read this story before you begin to know them well, sharing in their joys and their losses. All of the characters are well defined and the storyline is quite believable. I would recommend “Always, Love is Eternal” to anyone who likes a whole-life love story. This book could appeal to readers of a broad age range from late teens to adults. I am looking forward to reading more from this author in the coming years.

Two souls make a choice to return to Earth, but one is reluctant. Einarr – Simon – is resistant because his last incarnation was traumatic. But Katura – April – convinces him to agree. Simon is the first to return, and by the time he meets up with April, he has already closed his heart to love. Can April make him feel again? Or will Simon (Einarr) break their agreement and seek out Earthly pleasures instead of a love that lasts for eternity?

Always is a book that breaks the mold. It’s far from a typical romance novel, though romance is certainly at the heart of it. The story explores bonds that span eternity, not only those between lovers, but between friends and even animal companions. The relationship between Simon and April is atypical, and one that Simon tries to avoid. It takes a lot of convincing – from April, the Duff family, Lula, and Fate – to convince Simon that he has a destiny on Earth. There are several characters in this book that I fell in love with. Jesse, Tillie, Lula – these are loyal, nurturing characters who are well-developed and likable. While most romance novels revolve around the main characters and their romantic relationship, Always follows the Duff family until April is 80 and is reunited with Simon on the Other Side.

This novel will be enjoyed by anyone who believes in spirituality or the Other Side. It explores reincarnation, Wicca, religious beliefs, and spirit guides. If these are topics that interest you, Always is the book for you.

MY THOUGHTS
LOVED IT

Simon, an antique collector, and his best friend, Dixon, a local newspaper publisher have always been close. When Dixon discovers that Simon owns an estate in the English countryside with some strange history, the first thing Simon thinks about is the money that it is worth. April, Dixon's young cousin, has met a girl from that village who claims she is a witch and has foretold that April is to help Simon find his true love. Although there is 20 or so years between the two, April has always been attracted to Simon, which according to the witch has been for always. The story flips back to Simon's ancestors that originally dwelt in the estate.

I really enjoyed this romance that incorporates reincarnation as a theme. The age difference between April and Simon seemed to be erased as the story progressed. I sort of disliked Simon at first since he seemed all about money, while Dixon has such a fun and amazing family and outlook on life. As he discovered more about himself and his past, he became more likable. This is a great read for those of you looking for something a bit different with a bit of spiritual twist.

I found the book boring and the romance between the younger April and Simon a bit fake and difficult for me to buy into. The greed between Simon and Dixon was also a bone of contention with me. I thought this was a romantic story, but I guess that’s what happens when you take every book that’s given to you without reading the blurb on the back. I cannot in all honesty give this book more than three stars.
