****I was given a copy of this book for my honest review**** First I would just like to say, Aussie Author Alert!! Being from the land down under I am always excited to read a book with Aussie references, places, music (Angus and Julia Stone, woot woot!).Buying Thyme by TJ Hamilton did not disappoint in this. I am not going to go into details because I do believe the book blurb has highlighted everything and I don't want to give any extras away. What I will say is that even though Miranda is a prostitute I found her incredible real and believable. My pleasure in a book always increase when the character/s are written in a way that I can relate and therefore connect with them. As you can imagine with a book based on the life of a prostitute there was a bit of sex in this book. Not a problem for me I loved it, and the author did a stand out job of writing in many variables, costumes, scenarios etc. It is super hot. Mr Joe Tench, well can I say I love that man and all his domineering ways? Miranda being torn between the mysterious bad boy and the friendly open nice boy, was addictive, I just kept wanting more This book was really easy to read, it flowed and I found myself just flying through it. TJ Hamilton has put herself on my radar and I am eager to start the next book in this trilogy. 4 stars.
Ok before I get started on this review let me just say that I am writing it in the middle of the night cause I had to stay up to finish this book. So if I start to ramble and make no sense you can blame it on my sleep deprivation.
My feelings on this book are just a little mixed. I loved the characters. Yes Miranda is working girl, but throughout the book you are reminded that she is just a normal woman making a living like so many of us are. I really like he glimpses into her life outside of "work". Joe is a mystery you never know what you are going to get. One minute he is a sweet, lovable guy and the next you just want to yank him out of the book and slap him across the face. Tom is a sweetheart all the way through. He is just such a down to earth guy that you can't help but fall for him. Lastly Miranda's friend Charlie has got to be my favorite. He is such an outrageous flamboyant addition to this story and is so much fun that I couldn't leave him out.
The thing that I didn't like much about the story is it felt like it was a little slow in building. I feel that the story didn't even really get started until I was between 1/3 to 1/2 way done. But once it did start to pick up it more than made up for the slow start. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.

This novel is well and eloquently written. Hamilton develops vivid scenes that pull the readers right into the action. I appreciate how Hamilton writes sex scenes that are captivating and alluring without crossing the line and becoming over the top raunchy. Although sexuality and the sex trade does play a large role in this story they do not overtake or detract from the story as a whole. The solidly built storyline shines through everything. It is a very unique and intriguing look at life in a way that most of us would never fathom.
Hamilton’s characters are quite well developed. I appreciate that the main character finds a way to be herself even if she isn’t always completely ok with it. She is very outgoing, and extremely realistic. You find yourself identifying with her and feeling for her. She is the outgoing person that you wish you were, even if you want a different job. The rest of the cast is also quite well developed. You get to know each and every major character. You know who they are and who they claim to be. The contrast between the different characters in this novel really makes the novel seem like a situation you could walk into.
As a whole, this was a thrilling novel that made me think and feel. Hamilton has me hooked with this novel. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
Please note that I received this novel free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Buying Thyme is book one in the Thyme Trilogy series of T. J. Hamilton. Miranda never thought she would turn out to be a high-class escort in Sydney and turn out to be good at seducing men. However, she starts to do the one thing you should avoid: getting attached to your clients. First, Miranda fell in love with two: Joe Tench, a powerful, demanding owner of nightclubs in Sydney and the secretive Tom Smythe. Miranda discovered that both men had secrets that would forever affect her life. The readers of Buying Thyme will continue to follow Miranda to find out what happens.
Buying Thyme is a fantastic start to T. J. Hamilton's new series. From the first page, I was engaged with the story and the characters, which continued until the end of the book. I enjoyed that T. J. Hamilton discusses social issues that affect people working in the escort industry. I like T. J. Hamilton's portrayal of her characters and their interaction with each other. Buying Thyme is well-written and researched. I like T. H. Hamilton's description of the settings of Buying Thyme, which allowed me to imagine being part of the book's plot.
The readers of Buying Thyme will understand the consequences of organised crime in the entertainment industry. Also, the readers of Buying Thyme will learn about the role of an escort.
So this is a first, normally when I am finish reading a book, I check on other reviews in the rating category I feel best describe said book. I can normally find at least one review that mirrors my own. I am out of luck this time, as none seem to capture what I am feeling. Either they are too good or too bad. I feel like this book fell in the middle and threaded both lines occasionally.
It's not what I expected and I didn't build a connection with any of the characters. I found myself wanting to see Joe and Toni again, but being disappointed with Tom this and Tom that. Maybe I did make a connection in Joe, but he is lined up will a bulls eye so we spent more time with his competition.
I am completely unaware as to the background of all the characters. I am only even sure that two (2) people used their real name throughout the novel. It was to the end when we got some insight into Miranda and by then I was over her character. I even so much as cheated and read the synopsis of the other two novels in the series, before finishing this one and I still have no sense of direction with regards to the story and it's characters. Where is this all going? It's one conspiracy theory after the next.
I am assuming Joe Tench is suppose to be the bad guy, but other than a very wrong ballet session, he seems like an ok guy to me. Yes, his decisions in the end were dramatic to say the least, but c'mon Miranda! You would have thrown a fit if you caught your man cheating on you!
Miranda plays the role of a "high class escort" well. She is committed to her craft and possess quite the system. It's not a hobby, it's her job and she attacks it with vigor, pride (as much as is possible) and dedication. Honestly, she enjoys this, because she hardly never climax. She is just as attached to these clients as they are, but she keeps in mind what time her pumpkin will arrive. I'm unaware of her background and I'm not really interested either.
Emphasis was placed on explaining every single detail and by the end, I had nothing of value that's memorable, as I see the beginnings of a whole new story line about to be come to life. The coincidences at the end were not ironed out either and had me questioning the rushed ending that did nothing for me. The only person I am interested in from this novel is Joe and he seems to be gearing up for a very bad ending.
The story is set in Australia and I realize I have been venturing in that pond as of late. I love Australian stories, because it brings a totally different lifestyle and culture. The excessive details became an advantage in capturing Australia from a real Aussie's perspective. If she lied or messed up a detail, I am unaware because I believed her in everything Aussie related.
The story line became increasingly confusing as we progressed and I didn't see half the danger or feel a smidgen of the emotion that Miranda felt, as she narrate. I don't mind reading the next novel in this series, but I will take a break in between for fear that I might not like the next one. A clear unbiased opinion is best and I currently need a break from Miranda and Tom. I can already see this series gearing up to become a Nikita without the Agency. Miranda is a prostitute and a very good one at that. Training her to become a spy? ... I just can't see it!
What I found interesting, was that so much time was placed on elaborating every little make up trick and accessory, but the ending was rushed with gaping holes. How does she run away and drop off the radar of such a high ranking Government agency, that a crime boss himself had to leave the country, to stem off some of the heat? Especially the fact that she is 8 hours away lying on a beach o.O
When did her brother call this Nick guy and was he waiting on the call? Cause he got there awfully fast! I was neither impressed or captivated with this story. The story line got crazy and everything turned into conspiracy theories.
If not for a total of maybe 5 scenes, I would surely not think of Mr. Trench as a crime boss. Maybe he is; that's fine, but I need to believe it and I don't. The only thing I can state without a doubt from this novel, is that Miranda makes a really good call girl.
Buying Thyme was a fascinating read and pretty damn unique. The heroine? She's a hooker. Really. A hooker. I mean, how often can you say that?!
Miranda's been a high-class escort for a handful of years and is good at what she does but seems to be at a turning point in her life. It was really interesting being in her head and seeing how she viewed her career and coped with what she did. It's not always pretty and definitely not the lifestyle for me but it was interesting getting a peek into her life. The glamorous parts, the dangers that come with her work, the way emotions can twist and lines can easily be crossed. I found myself liking her more and more as the book went along and really wanting the best for her. She's also brutally frank about her life.
Now, the men. There are a handful of guys involved. Johns she's had relations with or that have just come into the picture. And they all kept me guessing for most of the book. Especially after a young woman disappears that seems to be connected to one of the men. It was one where I couldn't decide who to root for as her hero or who was even hero material at all. Because some of the things that happen? Not hero quality stuff. More landing on the 'you need to be neutered' side of things. They're what kept me reading though because they're each so different and not quite predictable.
While there were some writing things to get used to--an abundance of !s towards the start and slang due to it's locale of Australia that I just wasn't familiar with-- I soon found myself really getting lost in the world and kept reaching for my ereader instead of doing everything else I really needed to be doing. The book was addictive and I just had to know what happened next. With the men, with Miranda, with the missing woman. I just...needed to turn that next page and couldn't stop myself.
Buying Thyme definitely explores an alternative lifestyle and isn't the book for everyone but if you enjoy reads that push boundaries and aren't your typical romances, like I do, then this is one to try. It's captivating and really made me want to know more about the people involved. The good and the bad about them. There are a lot of secrets being kept on all fronts and I'm really looking forward to seeing how they unfold during the next two installments--especially after some nice little twists in the storyline towards the end.
So where to begin when it comes to this book, it was well written and Hamilton did an excellent job at giving a description of the characters and giving you a detailed background on the characters. Miranda is a high paid escort and works for an agency in Sydney, Australia. She has several regular clients which includes a man named Joe Tench, whose profession is the head of Sydney's Most Organized Crime Gang. Miranda lived a good life and lifestyle when she was younger but when her father died it all changed and her mother lost all of their money. Miranda like any normal person would have to do to survive, finds a job to make ends meet even though it’s not a regular job. Miranda is a character that I would describe as someone who perseveres and is independent. Even though I didn’t like the fact that Miranda has sex with clients for money she has to strive to help herself in some way and all you can do is admire that. Let’s talk about the 2 main men in this book, can we say that Hamilton gave us a visual for some eye candy. Joe Tench the mobster, realizes that things are worth living for and also comes to the realization that he has feelings for Miranda (Mia). He hires her to come over for 2 days and treats her in my opinion as a princess. After Miranda leaves and takes some time off, something happens and when she comes back he is a total Jerk. Now the other Man, I would have to say he is by far my favorite, and he's SEXY. He claims to be a client that wants Miranda but really he is an undercover agent he goes by Tom Slythe at first. He is trying to get Tench and feels that he needs to get someone who is close to him and that one person is Miranda. Miranda goes through the struggle of having feelings for her clients which she doesn’t understand and I can understand what she sees in each man. Joe Tench is the wealthy, dangerous, hot body, and good looking man who treats her decent. Tom Slythe is sweet, sexy, and someone Miranda (Mia) can be herself around. She has a few struggles and things come to light but in the end I think Miranda (Mia) is finding out who to trust and what feelings are real. I am very intrigued to read the rest of the authors story. Oh wait, let’s talk about the sex scenes in this book, detailed and its gets HOT. The series has 2 more books and I am ready to read them. Great job Hamilton!
Guest Review by Monica at Shayna Renee's Spicy Reads
A story about a hooker conflicted between her two johns. Hmm, did not seem that catchy but as I was given this copy for an honest review I decided to give it an honest effort.
Miranda is more of a high-class call girl than your basic hooker and that made it a little easier to get into. The writing style and ease of the story made it easier for me to continue reading. Miranda was hired for a weekend jaunt with sexy Joe Tench, he is a billionaire with a dark side and connections to the dark side of Australia. But he and Miranda have a wonderful weekend complete with candlelight dinner and it was very sweetly written. Miranda is questioning her future as a call girl and her possible future with him. It was easy to forget her profession and just see her as a regular girl. It was almost easy to accept her job choice.
Then she meets Tom Smythe who buys her time but only wants to talk to her, only wants to be her friend and get to know her. She begins to meet Tom outside of work and they slowly develop a true friendship. She has never really had a male friend before and finds herself falling for him, while still having feelings for the dashing Joe.
Miranda needs to decide if she wants a relationship with the possessive and domineering Joe and if she wants to take a chance on the sweet and unassuming Tom. Then a tragedy befalls one of her fellow workers and everything that she thought she knew is questioned as she starts to put her life in perspective.
This story was very well written, although some parts were kind of easy to guess the majority of the book was certainly a pleasant surprise. The characters were all very nicely fleshed out. The sex scenes were extremely well done and played around with a little bit of bondage and some fancy costume changes. I was very surprised at how much I did enjoy this book and anxiously await the next two installments. I would have to rate this book a 4.5/5. Good job!
H-O-T BOOK!!! Can't wait for more! During the first half of this book, I kept telling myself the sex was HOT so just keep reading because I felt it was building to something but very slowly. Then I got a little over 1/2 way thru and the story really started to pick up and by the end I knew I absolutely HAD to read the next book! This is the story of Miranda! She works as a high class escort, but throughout the story you are constantly reminded that she is really just a normal girl trying to make a living. "Here we go again Miranda… it's show time!" I especially loved her life outside of the agency, and her friend Charlie is hilarious. Some of the comments he made had me dying laughing! But this story is about Miranda and her life. She has many regular clients and one of them is Joe Tench. I felt like he was a complete mystery. Every time I thought I had him figured out, he would go and change my mind. One minute he is sweet and caring man, and the next he is dominant and demanding (and not in an attractive way)! "When I find a woman as rare as this diamond, it will be hers. You can quote me on that." But Miranda finds herself confused and starts to develop feelings for him. Then she meets Tom, who is a complete gentleman throughout the entire book. He is so easy going, and caring but Miranda just can't seem to find a balance between "work" and real life! She struggles with her feelings that develop for 2 very different me… a personal tragedy… and the discovery that she is stuck in a world that is difficult to escape from.
I really struggled through most of this book but by the end I was left wanting more. The sex scenes are H-O-T (fanning myself), her relationships and struggles are genuine, and for that reason I had to give this book 4 stars! I hope that the end of this book proves the start of an amazing second book, and look forward to reading it!
Miranda is a highly paid escort in Sydney, Austrailia where it is legal. She may not like where life has taken her, even though the money is good, or some clients, or even her fellow co-workers but at least it's legal and safe to a degree.
Well that is until 'mobster' Joe Tench who owns half the city takes more than an intrest in her. Most people fear him but she is just doing her job...making the client satisfied. The Agency she works for taught her a few tricks that has only made Miranda a top seller with the gentlemen clients.
Three main clients she meets during this time. Michael Stephenson-stuntman who wants a relationship with Miranda. Joe Tench-dangerous guy-quickly becomes obsessed and wants to basically own her for himself. Then there is Tom Symthe- who just wants her comannionship.
There is alot of sex because come-on in her line of work that is included so its expected. She enjoys her work well for the most part. The Agency keeps her safer than some others. However, Joe Tench buys a month of her time...so how really safe can she be.
A friend dissapears and is later found dead, a dark scene with Joe that ends in non-consentual un-protected sex, a man is shot right in front of her, and someone turns out to be hiding a secret.
Let's just say this book was more than I expected. I knew it wasn't going to be sunshine and roses but Wow, just wow. I can't wait to read the next one and I just found out there might be a prequel so I can find out how she goin in the career in the first place. The only thing I would warn about is the non-con unprocted sex and that this is an Austrailian author so some slang and words might throw people.
I wasn't sure what I was going to get when I started to read - though I was good to read about my home town Sydney and knowing about most of the places she written about.
Miranda is a working girl, a high class escort, pleasuring the rich, famous and not so famous of Sydney, and yes, even though sex and the lifestyle are a big part of the story, it is not all it is about.
I loved the diversity of the 3 main men in Miranda's life - the underground figure Joe, the nice guy Tom and her gay best friend Charlie. I would really have liked to have read more about Charlie!
We get to see the other side of Miranda, the normal, regular girl doing the mundane things in life like the groceries!
I felt that the story was a little slow to get going - the first quarter felt a little dragged out - but the ending a little rushed, all wrapping up nicely in the last couple of chapters.
I am looking forward to reading the next 2 books i the series!
I was unsure if the content of this story would be to my liking, I mean how can I relate to a escort? However I was hooked on this story from the first chapter! I was kept guessing through out the book, would Miranda fall in love? Who will she fall in love with? Will she be an escort for ever? All the questions were answered but then by the end of the book I had more questions! A well written story that is more than romance. The ending is really just the beginning for Miranda. 5 stars, fantastic series
This booK...wow! Loved it! It had a little bit of everything. I pretty much consumed this book at an ungodly rate. It is part of a trilogy, next book comes out 6th Oct. I know is this because I scored the Internet for this date...I needed more! Very excited about the next book! This book doesn't end on a cliff hanger which I also really appreciate! This book really doesn't go where you think its going...
This book had my emotions running around rampant. I didn't know what to expect and because of that I loved reading this book. I felt pulled in lots of different directions. I got the feeling not even Miranda really knew who she was or what she was capable of doing. She's a strong heroine that doesn't realize just how strong she is - and I know that most people wouldn't look at an escort as being a strong heroine but Miranda is the exception.
oh my god if you have not read this yet than stop what your reading and go do yourself a favor, hot sexy erotic story of Miranda when girls go missing from her comapnay that she works at there are questions she wants, whose doing it is it the client that wants Miradna that keeps her in his bed well you have to go read i could not put this down a real page turner thank you T J Hamilton i loved it. so GO READ NOW
The story was interesting enough but some sign of an editor's involvement would've been appreciated. The spelling and grammar was absolutely appalling. Errors as simple as your mixed up with you're, on multiple occasions. I also cringed at Miranda's attempt at Italian... "Don't you mean buongiorno senorita?". If you're trying to make your character sound smart at least get it right - señorita is Spanish, signorina is Italian.
Wow, not sure what to say about this book . I started off not really into the whole high class escort theme that was running but when I say plot twists believe me when I say you wont see them coming.action packed , fast paced with a female lead that is strong and yet feminine and exceedingly vulnerable. I cant wait to see how this series finishes.
Another book that has haunted my newsfeed for weeks that I have put off reading only to discover an absolute gem!!! This book was awesome with twists that just come at you from left field and leave you screaming WTF??????? Brilliant book so glad I finally got around to it!!!
I really liked this book! I was a bit hesitant at first thinking there wouldn't be a good story line BUT I was wrong. I was captivated with this story and want to finish the series to see what happens to Miranda/Mia.
What a strange yet succulent lifestyle. Hold on to your hats ladies, I can tell its gonna be a wild ride! Looking forward to the next 2 books. Miranda is one sexy woman.
Interesting plot with lots of mystery, suspense and some hot chemistry going on between bad boy Joe and MIranda/Mia.. We have to wait for Book 2&3 to find out "what happens"..
Wow!!!! This book was a rush at parts! I loved it!!! I loved Miranda & the way she handled her life! I was shocked at various parts of the books but enjoyed it a lot!! Cannot wait to read more!!!!
I absolutely can't wait to read more, this is so captivating that I couldn't put it down!! If you like mystery, romance and awesome characters you really should read the Thyme trilogy!!
