Book 1 of the Mischievous Matchmaker series.

After years of living abroad, Rachel has returned to Chicago. As a welcome-home present, one of her best friends throws a seventies-style key party. A night of mingling and anonymous sex with one of Petra’s hunky friends seems perfect.

Petra knows about the crush Rachel had on Ben in college, and she rigs the game so Rachel ends up with the very fine young doctor. But Petra doesn’t know the whole story. Rachel never told her friend about the scorching-hot make-out session that is now Rachel’s go-to sexual fantasy.

And neither of them could know Ben is more than looking forward to showing Rachel every carnal moment she missed when she left without finishing what they’d started that night.

Closer to 3-1/2 stars, but not quite enough to round up to four.

This was much tamer than the title suggests, but a sweet and sexy story of rekindled love. Ben was Rachel's chemistry tutor in college. They were both premed, but Rachel really struggled. Between a really heavy makeout session and freezing upon taking a chemistry exam, Rachel dropped out of school and moved really quickly. Ben had no idea what had happened, but he never really forgot her. Fast forward several years later and Rachel has returned from a job overseas and a bad breakup. She's living with one of her best friends, Petra, who likes to hold key parties. Turns out, Petra works with Ben and knows his history with Rachel, so he's invited to the key party as well. And Petra fixes the game so they're paired up, which works out splendidly, except that Ben works for one of the wellness centers where Rachel has applied, so she breaks it off with him really even before they can start. But the attraction is too strong....

I was happy with how things ended up. There were a few things that seemed to be glossed over, like the fact that Bree had slept with Ben at a different key party, that Petra almost sounded like she had a thing for Alex, Ben's roommate, even though Petra is married. Maybe those things would be more fleshed out in another book in the series. But generally an entertaining story.

With just enough character development to make them easy to relate to, and a knack for secondary characters who spice up the story with their odd ways and funny commentary, Jayne Kingston presents a sexy and fun short sure to please many readers.

Rachel has recently returned to Chicago after leaving her job on a cruise ship and living in London. She left university after one year, and found another career working in massage. When her life fell apart in London, she returned to the states to make a new life and focus on therapeutic work.

She is sharing a house with her best friend, who also happens to organize monthly key parties for friends. It is at this first key party after Rachel arrived that she runs into her university crush, and former tutor Ben.

Ben is now a doctor, gorgeous and thoroughly intrigued by Rachel. In fact, he was always intrigued by her, we come to learn as the story progresses. Far from being a 'luck of the draw' event, the key party is Petra's way to match up her friends with people she believes are compatible: with a perfect record her secret would have been safe had the puffy star sticker on Ben's keys been removed.

From this point - the sex is delicious, but the story carries every ounce of heart and personality most often seen in longer contemporary romance stories. Ben and Rachel work well together, their conversations and openness is well-described and defined, and their emotional vulnerabilities are understandable and easy to relate to.

This is only about 100 pages, clever and quick with plenty of steam to please the reader.

I received an eBook copy from the publisher for purpose of honest review for the Jeep Diva. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Pretty good story about a couple setup by a mutual friend during a key party. They knew each other in college, haven’t seen each other in years. I liked the couple and the supporting characters. There was just enough conflict to keep things interesting. I would have liked more detail in the sex scenes, more story overall. I’m definitely going to check out the rest of the series.

Liked it
More a second chance story than a decadent keyparty story, but I liked it!
