The beautiful small Mexican town is the setting which 2 long lost souls reunite under seemingly fated circumstances. Harmony, a spy turned hopeful author is escaping a stalker ex-boyfriend and wants to be as far away as possible. Alex is a famous author (perhaps more so than Harmony would have ever guessed) looking for clues to the possible existence of a mortal enemy. Upon meeting, the chemistry is off the charts and Alex begins to question whether Harmony too possesses otherworldly gifts. This is confirmed when they are attacked by ghouls, summoned by the man whom Alex has been wanting dead (or to remain dead) for centuries and they seem to be after Harmony.

Alex is thee Alexandre Dumas. Famous author of the masterpiece The Count of Monte Cristo. Once, he was on death’s door. Then he was gifted (or rather cursed) with immortality by the father of the creature who went on to murder the love of Alex’s life. Now, Alex wonders among the living. Not really a part of humanity but living a life of a normal person…until St Germain returns.

Harmony is a girl who is thrown into this chaotic and dangerous magical world yet seems to adapt quite well to it. She comes to trust and admire Alex as their companionship quickly turns to passion.

I liked this book, but it was definitely more fiction than paranormal romance. It was beautifully written albeit a bit on the wordy side. I feel like an asshole writing this review because can I fault the author for writing a good book with verbal substance just because I was expecting garbage smut? I don’t want to as that is unfair of me but at the same time, I really enjoy dramatic, garbage smut! I tend to rate books on my enjoyment of them but also on the likelihood that I will read it again. This book in concept was easily a 4.5 star book as it was nicely written and the author did a great job of painting the characters and the setting. YET, the chances of me reading it a 3rd time? 2.5 or 3 stars. That’s the reality. So I think I’ll rate it a 3.

This series continues to hold my intense interest...l am truly enjoying each book! This one required a bit more concentration, as there are bits of two other books within the book...following the story is not difficult, but it does require you to switch from one story line to another, but again, l found it different but absorbing. Each of the main characters in these books have been portrayed in such a way that you become involved in the stories from the get-go. l continue to recommend to anyone who likes paranormal romance/adventure/suspense...l have NOT been disappointed!

I checked "Spoilers" but while there are a few, none are pertinent to the main plot.

I almost gave it 2 stars. This was a story I really slogged through. What normally would have taken a day and a half I stretched over 5 days. The movement was slow and all over the place. I was originally intrigued by the premise of the plot - Alexander Dumas is alive, immortal, and still writing. Alex feels the need to recount, in extraordinary detail, the start of events that lead to the death of his lady love many decades ago... then never gets back to it. Enter Harmony, our heroine. She has a past too, although a very very recent past. We get her story - she has just left her over-baring boyfriend, whom she never really loved to begin with. We get details of this boyfriend that lead me to believe he is significant to the plot. Wrong! And on and on it goes. Somewhere in the middle Harmony is suddenly writing a book herself. Around the middle/end there are chapters from this book that could very well have been left out.

Too many dead-end tangents for my taste. Which is unfortunate because the prose is beautifully done and the plot - the real one - is very exciting.

I tried to like this book, I really tried. Nothing seems to be explained or resolved. I have since found out it is a series...had there been an explanation in the book somewhere it might have helped. I do want to try other books by the author, she has a very interesting style of writing.
