‘Chrislam: How Missionaries are Promoting an Islamized Gospel’
Are there missionaries who promote converts from Islam remaining in Islam? Is Islam the primary identity for a new believer and how does this identity interface with one's deliverance from a false religion? Which rituals and phenomena of Islam may be given new meaning by converts? Is the Gospel of Jesus being Islamized by Western missionaries? This anthology of twenty-five essays approaches the various questions of the "insider movements" that are being raised within the mission community. Offering not only a critique of the problematic issues of IM and it's proponents, Chrislam also provides a necessary corrective in the areas of theology, exegesis, translation, missiology and a theology of religions. The authors include converts from Islam, practicing missionaries, pastors, missiologists, Bible translators, professors of Islamic studies, biblical studies, and systematic theology. This multi-faceted approach to a serious problem in missions is a much needed manual for the church as she thinks through the ramifications of supporting "insiders" and the proponents of IM.

Joshua Lingel is Founder and President of i2 Ministries, a global organization training Christians to target and evangelize the Muslim world. At eighteen years of age, Joshua Lingel received his life calling when the Holy Spirit spoke to him to train the global church to evangelize the Muslim world in one generation.
He has been involved in leading large groups in inner city evangelism amongst the local mosques in Seattle, Los Angeles and London in addition to evangelistic outreaches into the 10-40 Window. He also served on the pastoral and teaching staff of Mill Creek Four Square Church while in Seattle, WA. Joshua is well known as a global missions strategist, conference speaker, trainer, and apologist. He also gives support to numerous catalytic Christian leaders and movements throughout Asia, Africa and South America. Joshua has trained numerous groups of pastors, leaders, students and missionaries globally in Christian Apologetics to Islam.
Joshua Lingel carries out the vision of i2 and has the passion and tools for reaching the Muslim world for Christ. He has pursued Muslim evangelism and Islamic Studies at six universities in the United States and Europe over the past 19 years. He has earned degrees and pursued post-graduate studies at the University of Washington, Harvard University, (SOAS) University of London, Knox Seminary, Biola University, and the Talbot School of Theology. Focusing on Political Science and then Philosophy of Religion and Ethics for his graduate work, he continued to pursue post-graduate studies in origins and early emergence of Islam, contemporary issues in Islam, Radical Islam and terrorism, early Islamic archaeology, textual criticism of the Qur’an, Islamic law and missions with Muslims.
Joshua has done extensive research on these subjects and knows many of the best scholars in theses fields of research. He has written papers on The History of Quríanic Textual Variants and Arthur Jefferyís Project for the study of the Qurían.” Joshua has been asked to participate and give scholarly papers at the Corpus Coranicum – Exploring the Textual Beginnings of the Qur’an (University of Berlin); The Syriac Aramaic Qur’an (University of Notre Dame) and Inrah Institute for Research of Early Islamic History and the Koran Conference 2008. In 1999 he was the recipient of the Leighton/Sandy Ford Leadership Award in Evangelism through Billy Graham Ministries.
From 1999-2012, Joshua taught the only course in the world on Christian Apologetics to Islam for over 20 semesters in the Biblical Studies, MA Theology and MA Apologetics departments at Biola University and the Talbot School of Theology. Joshua is the President of the Global Center for Islamic Studies and Evangelism (GCISE), hosted at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City. He is the facilitator for the Ideological Challenge of Islam for Transform World and several other movements. He is also the co-editor of: Chrislam: How Missionaries are Promoting an Islamized Gospel. From 2003-2009, Joshua Lingel was a founder and co-director for the Scholars with a Dream (SWAD) program, a Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RZIM) initiative mentoring 100 PhD students focusing on Islamic studies. He sits on multiple boards of directors and on the advisory board to the largest foundation for Muslim Ministries in the Middle East and North Africa.

You might be able to quibble with missiology methods in sharing the gospel to Muslims. But what you cannot do is redefine God for Muslims, or anyone else for that matter. I think this is the strongest point of the book, and where the insider movement is categorically wrong and without defense.

Chrislam—what is it and why should we care? Authors of this essay compilation and i2 Ministries believe all Christians should be concerned about Chrislam, aka the “Insider Movement” (IM) and its use. The problem lies in the “insider movements” message that contradicts “Christ’s deity and his redemptive work on the cross.”
Sometimes the message is subtle and only cause’s confusion like popular Oprah Winfrey did for those who watched her “Deny Jesus is the Only Way to Salvation & Heaven” show captured in this YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=noO_dCWtB1E Christians know that to be false. Yet some suggest Muslims and Christians don’t have to accept Jesus to receive eternal life.
The editors quote from the Muslim “bible,” the Qur’an, QR-157 (pg. 300)where it states, “They (Christians) neither killed nor crucified him, (Christ) but it was made to appear so…” That denies the heart of Christian salvation that Christ literally died and rose to life.
It’s also important to understand the terms “cross-cultural sensitivity” and “syncretism” used in the religious context. “Cross cultural sensitivity” is knowledge about and acceptance of other cultures, not an uncommon situation in our culturally diverse nation, while “Syncretism” is “the reconciliation or fusion of differing systems of belief.” The reconciliation of such different beliefs results in either a new belief system or a schizophrenic merger of principles. www.gotquestions.org/syncretism-relig...
That’s why i2 Ministries believe Americans should care. This anthology of twenty-five essays includes both favorable and critical viewpoints of what happens when Islam and Christianity try to become one when there are basic contradictions between their beliefs. Consider these:
• Christians believe in a Triune God, God the Father, Jesus His Son and the Holy Spirit.
o Muslims believe in one God, Allah.
• Christians believe Jesus is God’s Son in human flesh.
o Muslims believe Jesus was a prophet and only a man.
• Christians believe Jesus was crucified, dead and buried and rose to life on the third day.
o Muslims believe Jesus was sentenced to crucifixion and then miraculously saved.
