New author. Great start. For a monster smut book, her writing is very decent. There is good character building for the h, a little less for the H but since this will be a trilogy, I guess more will be unveiled in the next books. The smut was hot and well written as well. A little bit of dubcon, but nothing too angsty. Interesting world building for so short a book. Definitely an author to watch.
I know Book 2 is already out but I will wait for Book 3 before completing everything.

Why did it end like that?!?! We could have had something special!
Ok I’m over my dramatics, this was a very spicy, and dark monster novella. I loved the story, but with most novellas it just ended too soon and I wanted MORE!

hot and fast
I love Poppy Aster’s debut novel. It gets right to the good stuff pretty quick, dub con melting into a beautiful return of desire. It’s a quick read but sometimes a quick and hot hit of smut is all one needs. Looking forward to books two and three in the series!

The title is off putting if you're like me and not a dark romance connoisseur.
I appreciated that it was short. A good enough introduction to Sara+Jarik and peaked my interest enough that I'll probably read more on their future story.
The best part she put the money in a different high interest account and continued living within her means! I love me a smart gyal!

Smutty monster erotica. It was fine. The spice was perfunctory and basic. Your typical hard kink dark romance kit: non-con, spanking, spitting, and praise. And make the FMC a virgin who stumbles into the wrong place at the wrong time. It was every spicy scene in every mediocre hard kink romance but make the MMC a werewolf; which is why I read it but it just wasn’t interesting.

Good enough book, but no story or character building just straight up Porn, epilogue is pretty much the beginning and now I’m invested to read the second.
With all this said it’s the debut book by this author and her writing style is good, I see allot of promise for this author.

This is part one in what I believe is going to be a three part story about the same couple. It revolves around a 'Monster Gentleman's Club' where (seemingly) humans give themselves over for a night in exchange for a lot of money. But then they get their memories wiped in order for the 'monsters' to keep their identities secret. It's a very short but thoroughly enjoyable read. The author managed to get a lot of emotion into this story in such a short space of time and the cliff-hanger left me wanting more! Despite it being mostly erotica I was strangely compelled by these characters and am fully invested in their future HEA. I would highly recommend and I'm already eagerly looking forward to the next instalment.

This is the first in the three book series about a virgin who's real name is Sara but Mercy was used at the auction and a monster named Jarik. Jarik didn't know why he bid on Mercy but he didn't regret it one bit. In fact, after she was supposed to be out of his life, he wanted more. Mercy was auctioned off to a monster but she couldn't understand why she responded to him in such a way at the time of their encounter. She was given a shot to forget about her night with him which was why she didn't know where the money in her account came from. I'll have to read the next book to find out what happens between them.

Not bad for a debut. Although I always cringe a bit when the backdoor stuff is done with no lube, like have you actually tried using just spit irl? It's no bueno lol. But otherwise, the smut was pretty darned sexy.
However, this is a good example of a book that doesn't need a bad guy. The books in this series are so short that the woes of inter-species relationships could have been all the excitement needed. Adding in a bad guy is just distracting and adds nothing of value. I would have loved to see them navigate their world together. Also, it could have just been one book lol.

I'm going to just write an overall mini trilogy review for all 3 books involving Mercy and Jarik.
I loved the concept, auctioned female, heavy smutt and knotting, sign me up. However, there were a lot of inconsistences, she's an innocent virginal FMC who didn't know what a butt plug was one moment and did the next. It got taken out of her mouth twice, on two different pages. It was a lot of showing rather than doing i felt. Regardless I enjoyed it, the smutt was hot and the story was enough to keep me entertained. They're quick, effortless reads so I can't really be too fussy.

This was a great story...as long as the "plot" and worldbuilding stayed out of it. If the story just stuck to the Monster Gentleman's Club and the auction storyline, it would have been at least 4 stars. But the exposition dump, the "convenient" forgetful and no-pregnancy serum, and the open ending didn't need to happen. This "trilogy" could have stayed as a one-arch novella and then ended it with them meeting again.

First and foremost: READ THE TW! This is a dark romance and it such an interesting world that I am glad that book 2 is almost out! Sara and Jarik cross paths, and other things, due to a misunderstanding and I can't wait for more.

Sometimes I want to read a novella that is mostly smut and little plot or only hints to a future plot. This is the novella for that situation. Defiled follows Mercy who chased on her way home from work and darts into the only door that will open for her. She ends up in an auction at a secret monster gentleman's club and a night with her is sold to the highest bidder. Add a lot of spice and we have an introduction to a fun world that I'm eager to read more of.

There was nothing very special about the story. I was waiting for something, but I can't say what. Perhaps the best was the ending, which promises something more. However, I'm not sure if I'm interested in reading the next part.
