One of Laguna Beach’s best-known plastic surgeons may need a new leash on life. Unless he’s just taking a very long nap on the bench outside Melinda Langston’s Bow Wow Boutique...

But when Fluffy lunged toward Dr. O'Doggle, he rolled off the bench and fell with a thud. Checking his throat for a pulse, Melinda's fingers brushed something knotted around his throat. She pulled back his shirt for a better look. A thin dog leash was woven tightly around his neck. Identical to the kind Melinda sold at the shop. This was not an accident.

When Mel finds the body of Dr. Jack O’Doggle outside her shop one morning, she feels responsible. He was a good customer, and he was strangled with one of the leashes from her shop. Ignoring warnings to stay out of it, Mel begins to dig into Jack’s life. What secret was he hiding? And did it get him killed?

Once again, we are off on a delightful ride. These books are slightly on the wacky side yet never so far to be unbelievable. The mystery provides us with a good number of suspects and clues, and we meet someone I hope will be a recurring character in future books in the series. The book seems slightly on the short side, yet I didn’t feel like anything was missing when I reached the wonderful climax. The story is set in the weeks leading up to Christmas, which just added to the fun for me.

Yip/Tuck: Pampered Pets Mystery Book 4
Read in chronological order.

The Protagonist: Melinda Langston (Mel), former beauty queen, is the owner of Bow Wow Boutique and an accidental amateur sleuth. Mel is independent and cool. She shares her home with the dribbling Missy, an English Bulldog. We get sufficient glimpses of her mother to understand why she is in Laguna Beach and not Texas.

The Plot: Dr. O'Doggle plastic surgeon extraordinaire is sitting outside of Mel's store. Dead; with a leash wrapped around his neck. And as it's one that Mel sell's...

The characters come to life and the drag-fight will make you smile. The dogs and their wealthy owners are enjoyably over the top. I particularly like Mel's new assistant. It's a read to chase the blues away and not for taking seriously. It's enjoyable, but I found it less so than the previous three.
Well written and entertaining.

This is the second book in this series that I have listened to and I enjoyed both books. Yes I know this is book four but I can safely say you don't need to listen to them in the correct order to enjoy because the books seem to stand alone, so just sit back and enjoy. I like the characters and found them fun, especially the feisty Betty and hope she is going to be a recurring character. The mystery was good, I had worked out who the killer was despite there being a number of suspects but the story was interesting and funny enough that I listened to it all in one day.
Melinda is surprised to find Dr O'Doggle sat outside Bow Wow Boutique but the surprising thing is he is dead wearing a dog collar sold in her shop. Melinda has no intention of getting involved, even if she did find the body, but when Tova a bitter enemy begs for help, she finds she can't refuse her. Dr O'Doggle was the love of Tova's life and she needs Melinda's help getting a treasured photo back from his office, an office guarded by an office dragon. Melinda gets more than she bargains for when retrieving the photo, as she learns about the good doctors secret life.and for once it is not as simple as just having an affair. Melinda and best friend Darby find themselves entering the world of the drag Queens. As a unrecoonizable Tova becomes suspect number one Melinda can't help but ask questions. Can the pair shine the spotlight on the real killer? Or is there another murder to come?
I liked the narrator and found her easy, laid back voice easy to understand.

Yip/Tuck is the fourth book in the Pampered Pets Mysteries and it is probably my favourite to date. Surprisingly enough in this book the mystery doesn’t play second fiddle to the ongoing battle between the cousins for the hideous broach and comes to the fore.

Focusing on Melinda’s relationships with the residents of Laguna Beach we not only gain insight into her character but also how the town’s residents interact, which I found highly enjoyable. A standout in this book was the introduction of Betty, whose idiosyncrasies were highly amusing and the interaction at the The Kitty Kat Club, which contained both amusing dialogue and startling revelations.

While it did in the end follow the standard formula, I found that this was forgivable due the fore mentioned highlights and the ending held enough bang for its buck to keep me satisfied.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a light hearted mystery and enjoys watching ongoing relationships develop.

You never know who you're going to get

I love this series because you are never sure which cousin you are going to get until you start the book. Its a series about cousins who each think their granny gave them her broach because they were her favorite. The fun never ends even when there's a murder. This time a plastic surgeon is murdered in front of the wow wow boutique. The suspects are many and a couple of new characters may arise. Can't wait to see who the next murder will be and which nosey cousin will be in the thick of things.

This is funny plot and you were intrigued with the describing comment of the applicant had steel wool hair. Wondering why with no experience she was applying, because she had researched the owner. Bow Wow boutique was a success, she also gets involved in solving murder when the device used for the murder came from her shop.
Good story and narration, given ARC audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion

The books in this series are funny, fast reads but they do seem to have a very similar plot. Someone that either Caro or Mel knows is murdered and then someone else they know is a suspect and they want to investigate to help clear that persons name. Which is fine, a lot of cozy mysteries follow the same formula. I just wish they would mix it up a bit. Also, the stealing of Grandma's broach is getting really old.

This is the fourth book in The Pampered Pet Mystery series.

When Melinda Langston, the owner of the Bow Wow Boutique in Laguna Beach, finds a body in front of her shop one morning, she’s shocked but not too surprised. Mel has tripped over a few bodies before, but this one is a surprise when she recognizes the man as one of her customers. Dr. Jack O’Doggell is a well-known plastic surgeon, and he has been known to lavish expensive doggie gifts from Mel's boutique for his girlfriend Tova Randall.

Mel has interacted with the local homicide Detective Malone in the past so had no plans to get involved with the case until Tova becomes the number one suspect and even though she isn’t Mel’s favorite person, she thinks the woman is innocent.

In the meantime, she is interviewing for an assistant. So far only two senior citizens have applied. The first is germophobic and the second needs help with makeup, she paints pink lipstick on her eyebrows.

Mel feels confident she will work out her assistant situation but isn’t sure what to think when a clue about the murder leads her to a local drag queen joint. It looks like Dr. O’Doggell lead a secret life.

On top of everything, she must flaunt the fact that she’s stolen her grandmother’s tacky brooch from her cousin Caro. The two have an on-going battle because their grandmother left it to her favorite granddaughter. The woman failed to specify who that granddaughter was. For now, the two former beauty queens and cousins aren't speaking to each other.

With all of the quirky characters, the perfect setting, and this well written story, it was a fun, quick read. I own all this series but as you can see, this is number four. I will be working through the remaining six as soon as I can fit them in my reading schedule.

If you are looking for a quick read that will make you chuckle do check out this series.

Nice cozy read set in a rich area in California with lots of pets and good interaction with characters as the game's afoot and there are murders and other crimes in the area. The family stories and drama add to the interest of the series.

My Review 4 STARS

Pampered Pets Mystery #4)

The Pampered Pets Mystery are over the top fun with pet owners spoiling their animals. They also are about two cousins from Texas who now live in L.A. area. Melinda Langston owns a pet store with designer pet clothes while her cousin Carolina Lamont is a pet therapist. They are fighting over a pin that their grandma left her favorite granddaughter. Which of course they believe they both are. So they are always stealing it from each other.
Yip/Tuck is Melinda starting out with the pin, but not for long. It is also her turn to find a dead body and get in the way of homicide Detective Malone. The cousins keep finding dead bodies and seem to take turns every other book. They also want to find answers and clear their friends from being murder suspects.
The books are fun. They are a cozy mystery I would guess you could say. I have enjoyed reading them. I did guess where one part of the story was going to go before they discovered the secret. But I did not guess on who the murder was till close to the end.
Melinda owns Bow Wow Boutique and is hosting a designer show for pets after work for certain customers to come. She hears Tova fighting with her boyfriend Dr. Jack O'Doggle because he can't meet her at the store. He did buy her petKiki a present today over the phone for kiki to makeup for a fight they had.
The next morning Darby and Melinda were out walking their dogs and when they got to their businesses they see Dr. O'Doggle sitting on a bench in front of Bow Wow. When he doesn't answer them one of the dogs goes up to sniff and knocks him off the bench. He does not move or make a sound. Melinda thinks he is dead she bends over to check and can't find a pulse but does see a leash around his neck.
Melinda calls Detective Malone he is plugged into her cell.
He tells Melinda to stay out of his way. But she does not listen to well to him or her boyfriend. Melinda does find answers along the way.
Melinda also hired a new person to work a few hours a day. Betty is a hoot. Brings lots of laughs and fun with her.
If you like animals, funny stories and characters with their over the top personality and mystery these books would be right up your funny bone. They are also clean reads.
I look forward to the next Pampered Pets mystery.

Melinda Langston, owner of Bow Wow Boutique and her cousin Caroline Lamont, a pet therapist use to be friendly, but competitive when they were younger, but now they have an ugly broach and a much loved grandmother between them. Their grandmother promised the broach to her favorite granddaughter, the problem was she referred to each as her favorite and failed to specify in her will was to receive the broach. Over time it has become a game of one-upmanship between them where each steals it back from the other. This is a running sub-story through the series thus far.

In the fourth book of the series we have Melinda and her friend Darby walking towards their shops when they see Dr. Jack O'Doogle sitting on the bench in front of the Bow Wow Boutique. Not wanting to seem rude they call out a greeting, but receiving no reply. Fluffy breaks away from Darby and knocks the renowned plastic surgeon off the bench. Melinda kneels down to help him and when she checks for a pulse she finds a thin leash just like the ones she sells in her shop wrapped around his neck. Detective Malone and her Gray, her boyfriend both tell her to stay out of the investigation, but she ignores them. While investigating on her own both she and her assistant are arrested in their undies and in danger from a killer. That is just this tip of the iceberg.

Be prepared to laugh your way through this mystery. Both the animals and humans in this story are full of personality. I must admit I thought I pampered my cats, but never so much as Melinda's customers. To me the animals steal the show, but Betty is definitely a close second. You will want to visit with Melinda and her friends often. My rating is 5 stars.

Cozy mysteries are such fun to read and this was an especially entertaining one! Even though I hadn't read any of the previous books in this series, I was hooked from the very beginning. This was a hard book to put down.

Melinda owns an upscale pet boutique and as a pet lover, I enjoyed reading how her customers spoiled their furbabies. :) A cozy with animals is a winner in my book. And this was a really fun entertaining read.

The characters were well developed and likable. Betty, who works part time made me laugh out loud on almost everything she said. She is a fun person. Trying to figure out who the murderer was had me changing my mind every couple of pages. And I was surprised when I found out!

This is a series that I am glad I discovered and look forward to going back and reading previous books. If you are looking for a humorous cozy mystery, this is a superb one so don't pass it up. And it's also a quick read.

* Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for giving me a copy to read and review. Every word of this review is my own honest opinion.

Normally I do not touch cozy mysteries. I tend to leave those to my Mom since they are her favorite genre of novels but I liked the little blurb for this one. I was not disappointed. The book focuses on Melinda Langston and her Bow Wow Boutique in Laguna Beach. She and her cousin have been fighting over a pin their grandmother had left to her favorite. Both believe that they are the ones grandma left the pin to so they keep stealing it from each other. One day Melinda finds a body in front of her boutique. She also keeps getting in the way of Homicide Detective Malone.

I admit that at first I thought I had it all figured out only to find out how wrong I was. Even when the killer was revealed, I had not even considered so it was a huge surprise for me.

This book was a fun read and there were some humorous moments that I enjoyed immensely. I am really looking forward to reading the first three books of this series as well as others that will come. I have even recommended this series to my Mom.

When I read the first book, Desperate Housedogs, I loved it so much that I immediately gobbled up the second. I had to skip book three because I couldn't get ahold of it before my NetGalley ARC for Yip/Tuck had been on my ereading bookshelf for what felt like too long.
I do feel like I'm missing parts of the story having not read the third and I'm worried about spoilers when it finally comes so I would recommend reading the series in order but it's not an absolute deal-breaker.
Melinda's at it again. This time, the body of plastic surgeon Dr. O'Doggle has been dumped in front of her shop door. The man had been dating Melinda's enemy, lingerie model Tova. But he also had a secret life. One that earned him a lot of enemies. It's not up to Melinda to solve the crime, but she sticks her nose in anyway. And the results are a fun, fun read.

Another fun mystery with Melinda and Missy. For those of you who follow this series, she thinks she has control of the broach, but Caro is a step ahead of her.

Pre-Christmas shopping Bow Wow Boutique is going well, especially at the Saturday night eco-friendly pet closing line after hours party. Sunday is a different story when a client turns up dead in front of the up scale pet shop. When old nemesis, Tova, asks for help, Melinda can't harden her heart enough to refuse. or is that just curiosity showing up again. Det. Malone wants her to keep her nose out of things, Grey, the man in her life want her to stay out of danger, even her best friend Darby doesnt' think she should get involved. What's a girl to do?? Investigate of course. Other than asking questions where maybe she shouldn't she uses pretty good sense, but of course that doesn't keep her out of danger. Enjoy!

Miranda Langston, owner of Laguna Beach's Bow Wow Boutique, likes publicity as much as the next business owner. Just not the kind of publicity that comes when she and best friend Darby find the body of a well-known plastic surgeon on a bench outside her shop. When steely-eyed Detective Malone takes on the case, his suspicion immediately falls on Tova, the doctor's girlfriend. Miranda, not one to take things at face value or keep her nose out of police business, plunges into the case with her usual enthusiasm. And, as usual, Detective Malone is not amused.

This cozy mystery is an excellent choice for anyone who wants to curl up by the fire with a fun read.

Karen Commins narrates this story with a lot of feeling and fun.Melinda ,a pet shop owner, and Missy, a pet portrait photographer, always seem to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. There is usually a body involved, and so it goes when they encounter a prominent plastic surgeon, say 'hello' and he falls off a bench, dead. They call the police, who again do not want them involved, however, they stay involved, chaos and danger ensues.
These cozy mysteries are a bit of fluff, fur and fun for a drab winter day.

This was a short, fun and enjoyable read for me. It was actually the first book I have read by this author, and I plan now to go back and read the other books in the series. I really enjoyed this as a cozy it was fast, fun and I finished it really fast. If you are new to the cozy mystery genre I think this would be a good place for you to start. If you are not new you are going to enjoy it anyways. I think I smiled the whole way through this one if that gives you any idea of the fun I had while reading it.

I still enjoy the characters and find it interesting that the main (a lots of secondary) characters change focus every other book. I still think the feud between Mel and Caro is stupid, but it has made for interesting reading, especially the brooch heists.

This book has the death of a plastic surgeon/drag queen who was Tova's boyfriend.

Hang out in Laguna Beach with Melanda Langston and her Bow Wow Boutique and you’ll relish the humor, the intrigue, other life styles, and just a whole world of fun and, of course, a bizarre murder

I love this series! I live on the other coast, don’t have a dog, and don’t hit the local boutiques – but you know? That makes no difference – these tales are just a hell of a lot of fun!

For light-hearted reading, competitive cousins Caro and Mel never fail to disappoint! This clever mystery, involving some especially bizarre human characters, still retains Sparkle Abbey's signature innocence and class. Relationships -- canine, feline and human -- continue to grow with each new installment in the Pampered Pets series.

Once again, Sparkle Abbey brings a fun mystery and funny twist to the series with a new character, who is hired to work in Mel's shop, the Bow Wow Boutique. More twists and surprises in this book, and I enjoyed the battle of Grandma Tillie's pin too.
