Hold the Blood #1

Table for Three

Rate this book
Shana, Erron, and Marklon hadn’t realized life had more than a committed threesome in store for them. Like catching the serial killer monster who is leaving bloody body parts in restaurants throughout their small town — on platters no less.

The first murder and subsequent meal/gag occurred not long ago, at the upscale eatery, Carnal Cravings. Not long after, nearly every restaurant in town had served up some form of unexpected tartar. Heads on platters stuffed like prize pigs at luaus and people popsicles. Even deli-wrapped penises, taking Oscar Meyer Weiner to a whole new plane of pun, have rocked the sleepy little town of Crow Manor Maine to a state of panic.

It was then the nightmares began for Shana and her two men. It wasn’t long before she realized they weren’t nightmares but visions. They’d become attuned to the killer. As the threesome fight for their love and their lives, old skeletons tumble out of the closet that could literally carve them to shreds.

Author Bobbi Romans is as quirky as her works tend to be. She’s been on a talk show, the cover of the Walt Disney Souvenir magazine, married two couples and has a football team sized family.

Born and raised in VA she now resides in the south where she taps away her next story...which much like her life, she never knows where its heading.

Uuummmm.....a little speechless here. This is one of the wackiest books I've ever read. And yet oddly entertaining. Although it is a "horror / menage" story, the main character, Shana is such a wise-ass that you can't help but laugh while the story unfolds. And it certainly kept me turning the pages because it was just so crazy that I had to know what was going to happen next.

What I Liked:
- Shana is one funny and crazy woman. There were times I really wanted to smack her upside the head and yell at her to stop acting like Nancy Drew. But her character was highly entertaining and isn't that exactly what you do when watching a horror film? Like the opening scene in A Nightmare on Elm Street when the chick is walking out onto her dark driveway and you just know something bad is out there and you're screaming for her to go back into the house. Yep. That's Shana.
- Although the story was definitely horror / gore, it was done in (mostly) a humorous way. There were only one or two parts where I was genuinely nervous / fearful. Shana's character was just too funny to feel too scared.
- Who knew you could mix romance, a menage no less, with horror. I genuinely liked Marklon and Erron too and how the three interacted with each other. Though I have to admit I struggled with the sex scenes more because I'm a twosome kind of person. However those scenes did not distract from the story.
- I loved it that the killer dubbed himself "The Chef" and his name was Gordan. Of course I had to think of Gordan Ramsey! Lord knows he can be scary when he's angry.
- Absent the things I didn't like (see below) the overall storyline was well thought out.

What I Didn't Like:
- I found some of the character's names to be distracting. It's just really hard to read "Marklon" or "Erron" and not get pulled out of the story every time. They don't roll off the tongue. And I found the name Officer Hurly to be a bit corny since he was always hurling at each crime scene.
- The story could have been enhanced / impactful if the whole background story of the killer had been revealed through live interaction between the killer and the victims. In the end you learn about the connection through "telling".
- I'm not sure I understood the reason for having the three main characters experience "nightmares" that foretold of the killer's actions. I found that strange and unbelievable that all three were dreaming about what was happening. This story would have been every bit as interesting and maybe even more believable without the dream sequences. I'm not really sure they added much.

Recommend reading? Yes, if you like classic horror films like Friday the Thirteenth and want a good laugh. The story is short and quick to read.

Will I read it again? Probably not, but it was entertaining the first time around.

DESCRIPTION:

Shana, Erron, and Marklon hadn’t realized life had more than a committed threesome in store for them. Like catching the serial killer monster who is leaving bloody body parts in restaurants throughout their small town—on platters no less.

REVIEW:

I enjoyed this short novella. The dynamics between the characters was interesting. They all clearly cared for each other, Shana being the glue cementing them together. When threatened, they went into lockdown mode, determined to protect each other. There’s something very wicked about having two men so totally devoted to you. The horror aspect of the book had enough gore and mystery to keep me entertained. Unfortunately, part of the plot felt a bit contrived, but that might have more to do with the length of the book than anything else. The disdain for the police and their incompetence just didn’t work for me. I wasn’t sure why a waitress with no criminal background would insert herself in the investigation and think she’d be better equipped to find a killer.

Despite all that, once I hit the second half of the book, things smoothed out and the book clicked. The pacing picked up, the mystery deepened, and we’re introduced to the killer. When Shana found herself boxed into a corner, she came out swinging. I liked her spunk, and her willingness to do what was necessary to protect the men in her life. So in the end, I found myself entertained. If you haven’t tried horror and find yourself curious, pick up a copy.

Actually, I would have preferred to rate this book 2.5 stars (and will do so should GR ever decide to implement half star ratings).

Shana, Marklon and Erron live in a threesome partnership, which sure is something different. But two men sharing the same woman just so, as if it was the most normal thing in the world? The explanation for this unusual partnership was way too short and simple to be convincing. I guess the author wanted to include some steamy sex fantasies which I sure won't complain about. But those added chapters did not have any profound impact on the story and I didn't care much about them. I hope the author delves deeper into the beginning of this relationship in one of the next books, as it is essential for the reader to better understand the main characters and relate to them.

As for the grisly murders, that was something different altogether. A killer who leaves body parts strewn all over town, preferably as a part of some tasty meal, that was what really peaked my interest to read the story in the first place. While the thriller plot was thrilling indeed, the story line was bumpy and passages did not merge smoothly. While it is always nice to read a focused story without excess chapters, this one should have been more developed.

While the writing itself was ok, the author has not yet found her own individual voice which would make the book recognizable. Although this was a fast and entertaining read, it won't stay long with me. To arrive at a conclusion, let's say Table for Three wasn't entirely my cup of tea, but it was an interesting diversion.

(I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review)

As the title suggests, Table for Three: Hold the Blood by Bobbi Romans is a fun read. Shana, the protagonist, is willful, has a mind of her own and is capable too. A pleasant combination to follow. The novel sees the heroine in the middle of a menage and in the midst of a series of mysterious murders.

In one steamy scene, Shana impresses on the reader that her lovers, Marklon and Erron, are also her friends, leading to some enjoyable, sexy and emotionally-charged encounters. The sex flowed well and always seemed logical in the context of the storyline.

The horror was pretty dark, with some visceral descriptions. I thought that the villain, however, was comic-bookish or even cartoonish. Personally I didn't get the sense that any of the main characters were really in danger, despite the surrounding killings.

I think it's also worth noting that the book was a barf-fest. I laughed out loud at some of the humour concerning this, but ended up feeling queasy at times. The scenes of this nature seemed repetitive. I think the lady doth puke too much.

The most striking thing about this book for me was the connection between the lovers. Knowing that each one of them would do anything for the other two was a powerful thing.

Well this story was certainly different, better than 3 stars but not enough to make 4!

It had a paranormal feel to it, with dreams and visions turning into reality. Yet the three main characters Erron, Marklon & Shana are never said to be anything other than human, so I guess they had premonitions of sorts.

The plot had blood and gore and bordered on being a horror story, but then some humour would be thrown in, like the police being referred to as Officer Hurley and Deputy Dump, so that kind of thing made it hard for me to take things too seriously. I think I got more icked out by the descriptive paragraphs of vomiting .

The ménage scenes were descriptive but quickly forgettable. Again silly sayings would throw me out. .

I think I would refer to this books as erotic, horror, humour....If you are after a fun ride and don't mind a bit of gore I think you would like this story.

This book, just wow! I read the entire book in one sitting because it was one of those that I couldn't put down. The 3 main characters added spice to an already thrilling gore filled adventure. I don't recommend even snacking while reading this book! (of course I also don't recommend this book for anyone with a weak stomach)

The graphics of having body parts in random locations is both amusing and disgusting (in a good way!) and leaves you questioning and wondering until the end. The M/F/M relationship is something different but yet all three of the characters are intertwined rather than being separate individuals with intertwining roles. The twists and turns in this book were amazing!

While I contemplate reading this book again, I am secretly hoping that this author has more books like this!

Table for Three Hold the Blood, by Bobbi Romans is a delicious Halloween read, as its title suggests. It’s short, it’s fun, and it comes with a side of blood. Romans doesn’t squelch on the gory details, or the juicy ones. Readers get crystal clear images of the serial killer’s victims, and those images had me squirming in my seat. While the scenes of the threesome made me squirm for entirely different reasons. I also liked how Romans gave readers details about how a threesome works not just in the bedroom, but outside of it as well. It’s a short read, like I said earlier, so a large amount of history behind the characters isn’t given. Nevertheless, Romans gives us a suspenseful story on the hunt of a grotesque serial killer.

Really enjoyed reading this sexy thriller! Its well written and keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. I have never read about the dynamics of a threesome relationship and found it very interesting and totally sexy. The story has a great plot that's not easily guessable and the characters are well developed. Its a bit gory, if you mind that kind of thing (which I don't). But all in all, I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a quick, good read that hooks you and draws you in!

I received this awesome short story from Paranormal Romance & Authors that rock and I will say I enjoyed it. Although the description pretty well explains the whole story I still found it unique and pretty steamy! I do have a few questions I hope are answered in the next story like how are they all three having these visions and what are they gonna learn about themselves because of it. Will these visions continue or not. I definitely will be looking for the next one in hopes of my questions being answered and for their next crazy adventure.

Never before have I read a book about a threesome instead of a couple! Their relationships are very interesting to read about and it makes for a steamy book! For those of you who are worried about male-on-male action, don't be. There is none in this book!
But this book isn't just about romance and sex, there is a serial killer on the loose and the two men are trying to protect their love from him! I love all the twists and turns! I couldn't put it down!

This book is a mystery, while I enjoyed the mystery the author tried to make it an erotic romance novel as well and that just did not work for me. The sex scenes were mild an boring at best and did nothing to move the book forward they just muddled the mystery that was unraveling through the book. I am glad that it was a short quick read or I would not have finished it.

I enjoyed this, I felt that I would have liked some more into the relationship, there was a hint to a beginning but that's it. I enjoyed the story, a bit more gore then I normally like to read.

I was intrigued by the idea of an erotic horror story. Now, I haven't read anything made to be scary since John Saul books over 10 years ago. A lot of my books have some gore in them though so that didn't bother me at all. I'm always up for a little menage story and that aspect didn't disappoint. One thing you'll need to realize is that this is more like a novella and that from what I can tell it was meant to be funny. The chapter titles make it seem that way at least.

I loved the names: Shana, Erron and Marklon. I would liked to have more about how they met... I guess I just like that part of romance stories a bit more than other parts. Although I did like all three, the story was too short to really get to know any of them. They seemed to have a great relationship. There were a few parts of the book that did freak me out. Especially since I was only reading it at night, hehe.

So for what the story is: a short, humorous, erotic thriller... it is great. As I've said, I wish it was longer. I think there is actually more books in this series so perhaps I will get my wish. I have liked everything I've read by Bobbie Romans so far and I plan to read more. I'm looking forward to the new swamp shifters book. (hint hint) I have a feeling I will be looking into reading similar books to this. I have been feeling like I have boxed myself into one genre and it's time to explore new things! Broaden my book genre horizons perhaps? We'll see. ;)

I have no favorite quote so I will instead put my favorite chapter title:
"Wienerschnitzle"
