About the author

Shahaduz Zaman (Bangla: শাহাদুজ্জামান) is a Medical Anthropologist, currently working with Newcastle University, UK. He writes short stories, novels, and non-fiction. He has published 25 books, and his debut collection ‘Koyekti Bihbol Galpa’ won the Mowla Brothers Literary Award in 1996. He also won Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2016.

To understand a writer you have to understand his time, read this line somewhere. And I think to know a writer you have to read the literature he wrote about his time, his surroundings, his society - the columns. Shahaduz Zaman is one of the most important contemporary writers who wrote two of my most favourite books. This is a book about his time and his thoughts on the things around him. Hamayun Azad once wrote, an intellectual who is satisfied with his time and his society, must be a domestic animal. Glad to see Shahaduz Zaman did not turn out to be an animal after all.

- মাত্র এক দেড় পৃষ্ঠা লেখা গুলো ভাবনার অনেক খোরাক যোগায়। তারিখ উল্লেখ থাকলে আরেকটু বেশি রিলেটেবল মনে হোত। অবশ্য জাতি হিসেবে আমার তো ক্রমশই পিছনের দিকে যাচ্ছি তাই লেখাগুলো আজও প্রাসঙ্গিক ।

বরাবরের মতই গোছানো, সংবেদনশীল ও কাল-উপযোগী লেখা। ছোট ছোট বিষয় নিয়ে ছোট ছোট কথায় লেখক আমাদেরকে বৃহৎ চিন্তা-চেতনা করবার অবকাশ দিলেন এই "চিরকুট" বইটির মাধ্যমে....

'চিরকুট'গুলো অসাধারণ। ভাবনার পরিধি বিস্তৃতিতে বেশ সহায়ক। উপভোগ্য প্রবন্ধগুলো পড়তেও বেশ সুখপাঠ্য। যেকোনো চিন্তাশীল পাঠকের কাছেই বইটি ভালো লাগবে।
