Wow. This is such a cool story! A girl in the US and a boy in Japan share dreams over the years and slowly fall in love and hope to one day meet. Can't wait to see how it ends!

Dreamless is set before and during WWII. It follows the story of an American girl and Japanese boy who see each other when they fall asleep. The problem is, they’re thousands of miles apart, and worse, their counties are about to go to war.

Note on ratings:

* Horrible.
** Below average
*** Average. Not good or bad.
**** Above average
***** Above and beyond

Content: PG-13. I don’t recall any heavy swearing, but there’s drinking, offscreen suicide, and a prostitute. (Nothing is shown, but something did happen with some minor characters. The main character behaves in an honorable fashion.)

Originality and Setting: *****
Normally, I’m not a big fan of the WWII time period, or any historic setting for that matter, but this pulled it off well, and without getting much propaganda.

Characters and their Arcs: ****
The arcs felt a little rushed, with characters changing their minds quickly, though it was probably due to fast pacing.

Writing style and Pacing: ****
As mentioned above, the pacing seems a bit fast, now that I’m rereading it. Back when I was following it and only getting a page a week, it felt like it flowed better.

Art: *****
The illustrator of this comic, Sarah Ellerton, did a wonderful job.

Other thoughts:
I’m normally not into romance, or WWII, but this story really kept my interest, and the romance felt very well done, much better than what I normally see.

I really wish there was a show of this one, very interesting concept and story. Really pretty and heartwarming yet so sad and tragic.
