About the author

Josef Čapek was a Czech artist, writer and poet and brother to author Karel Čapek. Josef Čapek was a student of Cubism, which combined with his own playful style, exhibited a primitive note in his paintings. Josef Čapek collaborated with his brother on numerous occasions, which produced many plays and short stories. Josef Čapek is also famous for penning the Czech children’s classic Doggie and Pussycat. Although his brother Karel is usually noted as the man who coined the word Robot, it was actually Josef; Karel introduced the word Robot into literature. Due to his and his brother’s negative attitude towards Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Regime, Josef was arrested shortly after the German invasion in 1939, and was sent to the Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp where he died in 1945. While in Bergen-Belsen he wrote a collection called Poems from a Concentration Camp.

قد يُخيل لي للحظة أن كتابة قصة أطفال بمثل تلك البساطة والبراءة والتلقائية هى عمل يسير.

ولكن ما أندر أن نجد "بالغ" لا زال بروحه قدر من تلقائية الطفولة التي كتب بها المؤلف التشيكي "جوزف تشابك" هذا العمل.

خفة ولطافة ذكرتني بسلسلة كتب الأطفال "الضفدع والعلجوم" لأرنولد لوبل". و"جنان في بيت يا ليت" لأستريد ليندجرين". اعمال تردني قراءتها لعالم موازي لا وجود فيه لتعقيد عالمنا المجنون.

Doggie and Pussycat notice their floor is dirty. They use each other to scrub the floor and then to dry it. Then they realize they are dirty, and they clean each other and hang on the line.

A gentle, but clever little story for children.

Tieto rozprávky dozrievajú ako vínečko. Asi všetci sme to čítali ešte v škole. Teraz som ich pred spaním čítala dcére a veľmi sa jej páčili. Psíček a mačička sú výborné postavy. Ilustrácií je v knihe len zopár, no dcére to nevadilo a ticho počúvala. Príbehy obstáli aj novú dobu a nové trendy v detskej literatúre.

Pohádky o pejskovi a kočičce mě hodně bavily, poslouchala jsem je na cédéčku před spaním a dokonce jsem je i četla. Určitě se to bude líbit všem dětem. Moje nejoblíbenější pohádka je, jak pejsek s kočičkou vařili dort.

Klasika. Hezky jsem si zavzpomínala a i děti nápady jako zašít kalhoty žížalou, vytřít podlahu sami sebou nebo upéct dort ze všeho, co máme rádi, baví už v bůhvíkolikáté generaci :)

Dávám nostalgických 5 hvězd (bez nostalgie by to asi byly spíše 4,5). Příběhy pejska a kočičky jsou zábavné, ale ne všechny mě zaujaly natolik, abych dala nejvyšší hodnocení. Nejradši mám samozřejmě ten o dortu, to je klasika. Při čtení se mi vybavovala audioverze této knížky (nebo aspoň vybraných částí), kterou jsem měla doma na kazetě 👵🏻! Chvílemi, jako bych ji zase poslouchala.

Pockali sme si na nu kym deti dorastli nad 3 roky a citame radi a pravidelne. Jednoduche a mile pribehy ktore detom ukazu nezmyselnost niektorych akcii ale zaroven priatelstvo a napomocnost.

Je neuveriteľné ako sa pri jednej knihe vynorí toľko spomienok. Knihu som prvýkrát čítala v češtine a ja som tak či tak bola spokojná. Aspoň som to mala v originále. Som rada, že táto kniha je stále dostupná.

I really really loved this book, I read it when I was just ten, but I always remember the tale where doggie and pussy wear clothes, and how they liked to act like people. A great book to read at your kids or only to laugh a little.

A classic of Czech children's literature. some of the stories entered Czech language as idioms. Everybody knows when a meal; is " as when dog and the cat baked a cake " I occasionally cook like that. one friend calls it my " jazz cooking"

It was Kitty's birthday, and they wanted to bake a cake.
‘I know, I know! It’s very easy, Kitty. All you do is add your favourite food to the cake. When you add five delicious things, then the cake will be five times as good. When you add ten delicious things, then the cake will be ten times as good. So if we add a hundred delicious things, then the cake will be a hundred times as good!’

‘That’s true!’ said Kitty. ‘We’re going to make the most delicious cake ever.’

So Doggo and Kitty took out their cake tin, put on some aprons, and got ready to cook.

First, they took flour, milk, and eggs, and mixed them in a large bowl.

‘The cake must be sweet,’ said Kitty, and she poured a kilogram of sugar into the bowl.

‘And a bit salty as well,’ said Doggo, and he poured a spoonful of salt into the bowl.

‘And let’s add some butter and jam,’ said Kitty.

‘Not jam,’ said Doggo. ‘I don’t like jam. Let’s add some cheddar cheese. I love cheddar cheese.’

So they added a block of cheddar cheese to the bowl.

‘It seems to me,’ said Kitty, ‘that we need something greasy in it. Let’s add some bacon.’

So they added a slice of bacon to the bowl.

‘And we can’t forget nuts!’ said Doggo.

So he crushed a bag of nuts and poured them into the bowl.

‘Nuts are good,’ said Kitty, ‘but if we’re adding nuts then we should also add some cucumber.’

So she cut up a cucumber into slices and put them in the bowl, too.

‘And bones!’ said Doggo. ‘We must add some bones, as well! They are the tastiest food in the world.’

So they added some bones to the mix.

‘And we must add some mice!’ said Kitty. ‘Mice are my favourite food.’

So they added five mice into the bowl.

‘Oh,’ said Doggo, ‘and let’s add some sausages for me.’

So they added some sausages to the mix.

‘And we can’t forget cream!’ said Kitty. ‘We must add some cream.’

So they poured a litre of cream into the bowl.

‘And a bit of garlic,’ said Doggo.

So they put a few pieces of garlic in the mix.

‘And chocolate,’ said Kitty.

So they added a bar of chocolate to the bowl.

They added everything they liked to the bowl, which was all the food they had in the house, except for bread, because neither of them liked bread. They mixed and mixed, and it took a long time because there was so much food.

‘This is going to be an excellent cake!’ said Doggo, licking his lips. ‘And now we just have to bake it.’

They put the cake in the oven for an hour.
Fortunately, they did not get to eat the cake, because a big bad dog went by and ate it. He got bad stomach ache.
This is just one of the stories, and together with the original illustrations, it is a treasure of a book.

Generáciami overené rozprávky o psíčkovi a mačičke som si prečítala prvýkrát očami dospelej čitateľky. Niektoré príbehy som si pamätala úplne inak. Niektoré zase vôbec. Toľko k mojej pamäti.

Siahla som po nich v snahe nájsť rozprávky pred spaním pre syna, ktoré by ho bavili. Tieto zafungovali, zvieratkovské postavičky ho zaujali viac ako ľudské z klasických rozprávok.

Nie sú extra dlhé, ale ani priveľmi krátke a miestami v nich lietajú archaizmy, takže môžu byť náročnejšie na pozornosť. Občas som musela niektoré vety preformulovať alebo nahradiť staršie výrazy, aby im syn rozumel. Prípadne vysvetliť, čo slová znamenajú.
Aj keď príbehy nie sú moderné, stále má väčšina z nich čo ponúknuť aj dnešným deťom. Syn si niektoré pýta stále dookola, a to je dosť nepozorný a pri čítaní dlho nevydrží. Pokojnejšie dieťatko si ich isto užije ešte viac.

Dětská klasika. Je až s podivem, že i v současné době tyhle jednoduché příběhy stále baví. Ty notoricky známé jako o umývání podlahy nebo pečení dortu jsou absolutně boží. Nicméně ne úplně všechny kapitoly dosahují této kvality. Zejména ty, do kterých autor z nějakého důvodu zapsal sám sebe nebo, kde pejsek a kočička nebyli jednoznačně hlavními protagonisty děti ani mě úplně neoslovily. Myslím, že 4/5 této knize sedí docela dobře.

So ein wunderbares, süßes Buch! Die Geschichten vom Hündchen Wau-Wau und Kätzchen Miau sind ewig. Ich habe einige von ihnen total vergessen, zum Beispiel die von dem 28.Oktober, aber vielleicht hatten wir zu Hause eine alte Ausgabe, in der diese Geschichte verboten war (wegen der kommunistischen Regierung).

Při čtení knihy se mi vybavovaly některé momenty z dětství. Určitě jsem tuto knihu v dětství držel v ruce a z této knihy jsem četl, ale za ta léta jsem téměř všechno zapomněl. Bylo fajn po letech si znovu přečíst tuto knihu. Kniha se mi líbila, nachází se v ní několik poučení pro děti. Ilustrace se mi také líbí. Myslím si, že knihu ocení i dnešní mladí čtenáři.

Popri všetkých tých knihách, ktoré potrebujem teraz čítať kvôli diplomovke, som mala chuť na niečo krátke a nenáročné. Siahla som po tejto detskej rozprávke, ktorá je už takou československou klasikou. Pekné a milé.
