To save her brother, civilian Marci Maxwell will do whatever it takes…
Even if it means joining forces with a runaway super soldier and mercenary space mafia.
After the Space Guardians strand Marci Maxwell aboard Gold Chaser, she finds herself in a fight for her life against rabid monsters sent to kill her… until stowaway Kenji Matsuoka appears. After narrowly escaping the monster-infested ship, the duo must join a crew of space mafia to infiltrate the impenetrable Space Guardians HQ: the men that created Kenji, kidnapped Marci’s brother... and are aiding the fallen gods in creating a supreme human race.
The ragtag crew must face traitors in their midst and demons from their pasts before they stand a chance against the Guardians. When they finally begin their risky infiltration to save dozens of victims, they're met with an unexpected trial: the Guardians need Marci for their ultimate plan. And the gods will stop at nothing to obtain her.

This is a novel full of heart. Angela has crafted a great cast of characters and an intriguing set-up for a trilogy. I'm very glad I have the next two books on hand. I'm looking forward to binging this series.
Mild language, then the mmc being an absolute idiot in my mind I kept thinking “no guy ever talks like this”. Their squabble when they first met was awkward and weirdly put I want to say the word hot was used at least 4 times in their first conversation. I was ready for anything else to DNF and did with the description of brains being splattered. Anyone of these on their own I probably would have kept on. But all of those in the first 10min I was done.
It was sad though. My first impression was that maybe I’d actually find a space opera I could finish. I LOVE sci fi. But I’ve yet to find a sci fi book like the shows I enjoy that I can enjoy.
