In The One, the sixth book in the Alien Species Intervention #6609 series, almost a hundred years have passed since Armageddon. The Earth is ready for habitation but it is a far different Earth from the one last seen so long ago. Alongside the original wildlife and generations of their offspring, new plants and forms of wildlife from different worlds populate the planet as chosen by the Womb. The survivors discover they have not aged a day since the bombs dropped, but any new relationship that is forged stagnates when the chance to bear children is denied them. Every human now realizes their sole purpose is to support the animals and must fight to eke out a role in the new ecosystem that has put them at the bottom of the food chain. As a new civilization develops above ground, the new natural order thrusts women into positions of power. Will the softer of the species spell success for what is left of the human race? Or are the mistakes of the past doomed to be repeated? Alien Species Intervention #6609, is an alien apocalyptic saga spanning 200 years from the Prohibition to the distant future. It encompasses tender love between divergent species, political downfalls and acts of unspeakable violence. When you think you’ve figured it out . . . WHAM! You won’t see it coming. Thriller, horror, science fiction and fantasy all in one, the series is a gripping psychological exploration of how the inherent greed and evil of man is dooming planet Earth and its inhabitants. Alien Species Intervention #6609 contains violence that a sensitive reader may find confronting.
The last book in the series for me is a bitter-sweet departure.
I loved this world, some of the characters and loved to hate other characters. Being an ardent believer in Wildlife preservation and active in many causes regarding said preservation this has been a series close to my heart from the get go. In this, the last of the series I am once again reminded how we as humans are messing up this gift of a planet we inhabit. Being on top of the food chain is something we are truly not worthy off.
On that note, I cannot relay the basic story line of the book since every sentence in this book is one that holds an answer, a plot twist, an ending, a beginning a spoiler.
The author held nothing back in the series and the same is true for this last book. Showing the reader the best of and the worse of the human race spanning several hundreds of years and including a cast of characters that made me sit up and take notice. Each character has an integral role and each character has a voice all its own. This is true for the animals and the planet as a whole.
Nowhere in this book will you find a Mary-Sue or a Marty for that matter. The characters that seem to be too good to be true usually are exactly that. So trust nobody.
I am back at the start. The bittersweet part. I am glad my questions have been answered but sad that one of my favorite all time series have come to an end. In the One all unanswered questions raised in previous books is answered.
No good and fairy tale ending for this book depending on who you are rooting for. Evil is present as is good. Who will step away as victors? Will humans get a second chance?
This is the sixth and final book in The Species Intervention Series. I loved it!
Wow, where do I start?! I'm still reeling! I usually do a character breakdown, but this book is told from several different points of view, so it would take me forever to do so in this instance. Therefore, I'm just going to dive right into my review.
I have been eagerly awaiting the release of this book, because I wanted to see how Netty, Wil, Abby, Scott, Jose, Chloe, Cobby, Kane, Ginger Mae, Peter, Daisy, Kenya, Johno, Baby and Echo, as well as all the other characters (and animals) were coping in the Womb. It was nice to meet them again. Kenya is still pregnant! Secrets are still being kept and surprises are in store for some of the inhabitants. We also get to find out what happened to Suzy after her kidnapping. It is not easy living in the aftermath of a nuclear war, and sickness is prevalent. Suzy quickly grows up and is thrust into a dangerous world where women are traded and treated as slaves. I admired her determination to overcome obstacles. She is a very strong willed person, who has had to suffer through a terrible ordeal with her family in the previous book, only to find herself in an even more challenging position. This story is told over several decades (90 years to be precise), so we are then introduced to some new characters, mainly Lorna and Seth, Suzy's children.
This book is full of twists, turns and shocking revelations that kept me completely hooked! The story is just as dark as the previous books, and contains scenes of depravity and violence that made me feel sick, but I had the "rabbit in the headlights" fascination/horror feeling again that kept me turning the pages! I was swept into a wild and emotional rollercoaster ride. The characters are extremely lifelike, and some of them made me ashamed to be a part of a society that has lost their moral compass, along with the respect of Mother Nature. I wouldn't be surprised if we were wiped out by a rouge asteroid, or some other cataclysm in karmic retribution. We would deserve it! The ending was shocking, but not totally unexpected; I'm glad the story ended the way it did.
Side note: Why do humans feel the need to inflict pain and suffering on every living thing on this world (including the Earth)? This question I truly would like an answer to. There is a line from the movie "The Day The Earth Stood Still" (2008 version) that resonated in me. (Me para-phrasing) Klaatu said, "If the Earth dies, you die. But if you die, the Earth lives". Man is damaging the Earth, and killing himself and all the life on this planet by his greed for the "riches" and "resources" that we have been gifted. (I have a sneaking suspicion that is what happened on Mars!). This book (and the series as a whole), has touched me very deeply, and I would totally agree with the mission given to Baby and Echo by the Womb all those years before.
J.K. Accinni is a fantastic writer, who has become one of my favourite authors. I am looking forward to reading more of her work in the future.
Due to the violence and abuse, I do not recommend this book (or series) to younger readers or those of a sensitive nature. However, I HIGHLY recommend this book (and series) if you love science fiction or dystopian genres. - Lynn Worton
The One concludes the Species Intervention #6609 Series, and is as gripping and thought-provoking as the earlier books. It follows the fates of the survivors of Armageddon, and the recovery of the Earth after the bombs. J.K. Accinni’s writing is, as ever, poignant, acutely-observed and unflinching from the extremely important issues she raises. These books will stay with me for a very long time, and I think about them every time I switch on the news and watch more stories of people’s cruelty to each other and the wildlife we share this planet with.
The characters are well-rounded and very authentic, and there is a wonderful mix of good and evil, intelligent and stupid, loving and hateful, petty and altruistic. Mrs Accinni makes their lives oh so plausible and shows the many different sides of human nature extremely well. The plot is inspired (and, unfortunately, also very plausible). These are very powerful stories, with a very strong message and I am very, very impressed, so much so that, having read the Kindle versions, I immediately bought the paperbacks - they will keep their place on my bookshelves for years to come, and I very much look forward to the next offerings from Mrs Accinni’s pen.
A terrific almost last chapter in this inventive saga. I am exhausted with the miriad of emotions the author pulled from me. Now matter what, this series will stay with me for a very long time.
This should be called the Hive meets the tribe. Suzy has passed and her twins vie for control of the tribe. Irony is at the forefront as her son Seth turns out to be obsessed with taking control and hates his twin sister Lorna.(The only two names Suzy recalls from her childhood.)
World building is taking place as the Hive surfaces. so cool...new creatures mix with the old and Abby's love for the now married Cobby comes full circle in a achingly poignant and lustful moment as Kenya FINALLY has her baby.
I don't want to spoil the end so I will leave it here. So much happens in this book...
I hear the next book to be released in August is the last. I will be very sad to see these wonderful characters go.
These books are so entertaining to read, unknowing twists and turns beckon me to continue on even in the face of terror, betrayal, loss and love. Our last hopes as humans brought to an unexpected close as J.K. gives one last dramatic twist to the survivors. What lays ahead? I can't wait to purchase book 7 to find out!
Another assistant outstanding, astonishing, breathtaking book to the series. The only thing missing was letting us know that Seth suffered for his sins. Time to download the next one.
As I purchased this book I knew that it was going to be a hard and sad review for me to write when I was done reading it…. You see for me the ending if this phenomenal series is like losing precious loved ones that have helped me open my eyes to the many devastating events that our not so perfect world that we live in has become.
Author J.K. Accinni has created such an amazing collection of stories that put together as a whole has a dynamic message for us to really stand back and see what we are doing so wrong in our lives and to our world. So many issues have been brought to the fore front.
Cruelty is such an ugly word and act that is inflicted on so many people and our precious wildlife that surrounds our everyday lives. Can you, or do you see what is happening around us/you?
Ms. Accinni brings all our characters back for us in this final book of Species Intervention #6609 “The One”, all so well written along with the message that it carries with it will stay with me for a VERY long time to come. And I’m hoping that other readers will also take the message that is in this series, and pay attention to what is going on around us in our life. PROTECT AT ALL COSTS, DON’T DESTROY OR DAMAGE!!!!
The One is a spectacular continuation to this series, full of the life of those who survived the Armageddon and now living and coping of what’s left of their lives. A dark story full of so many shockers and revelations. Sickness surrounds them, but they fight to overcome them/it. You as a reader you will become so emotionally involved as the twist and turns throw you on the roller coaster taking you through several decades. It will definitely have you looking at your lives and how you treat our world, and those who live in it whether they be human or animal.
I don’t want this series to end!!! Ms. Kelly what am I to do now that it’s ended???? I hope that you are fast on the move creating another series for us… your writing style along with the message within this series has truly captured my heart, and opened up my eyes having me take a look at what else that I can do to help others animal or human that I’m not already doing.
If you haven’t started this awesome series yet, then I suggest that you seriously jump on into it, find the awesome world that is within each cover of the novels. This series is A MUST READ that I HIGHLY recommend.
Thank you so much author J.K. Accinni for the most gripping series that is so full of meaning. I will miss my favorite characters.
Recommend: 18 and older (due to violence and abuse) Rating: 5/5 angel stars Angel Anne Reviews
Accinni is an amazing storyteller, and I have been completely amazed by the overwhelming ability she has to suck a reader into such a rich story. Starting with Echo, I tore through all if this writer's books and waited patiently for The One to be released.
SPOILERS:
I gave The One a 4/5 stars rating on Goodreads, just one star less than the other five books. It is amazing what J.K. did in developing early 20th century characters and evolving them as well as the massive cast the ought the series spanning two centuries. Jose, Abby, Netty, Ginger Mae, Echo and Baby have faces to me and are now in my imagination forever as remarkable characters. The villains and brutality that failed to cease throughout the series is unrelentingly etched in my mind as some of fiction's most notorious. The story lines are allegorical at times and are often times eerily predictive in nature -- like the author is warning us through story of some clairvoyant visions she has had (I hope she is really just a good storyteller).
The One does not cease to impress. Overall (emphasis), it ties up the story I have come to love. The catharsis of leaving the cave and the revelation of The One are a welcome payoff.
Here comes the but...
I have praised the Species Intervention throughout my reviews because the story grew and grew. Each book triumphed in substance over the other. It is for this reason that The One gets one less star than the other books. I feel that the book left something to be satisfied. I almost felt like some of the situations (Seth's evil ambitions and ultimate downfall) and [SPOILER!!!!] Scotty's death came out of the blue and were kind of just a thing. The latter was really a surprise and I felt it required a bit more addressing. As a pivotal character, the death was almost an afterthought -- something meant to wrap up a loose end to address another plot change.
I also had an issue with the baby, no baby, okay some babies, look Netty and Abby have babies, and oh yeah, Kenya had a baby thing.
And as that was all happening, suddenly everyone ran to the membrane and some people died and others did not. The end.
These stand out as critical issue for me, but I still left feeling overall satisfied with the 6-book series.
If you have invested in this amazing series through the first five books, make sure to read The One. That said, prepare for a sense of being rushed.
To Ms. Accinni: I am more critical here because you made me fall in live with an angel of a series, and I saw a few flaws at the very end. That said, keep writing. I cannot wait to read what you have in store in 2014!
This is the last book in the series and it is just as intense as the other books. You are taken into the future to where people are now in their 90's. The survivors are still underground and of course have become quite comfy leaving within the Hive but they would like to see how the world above them is doing. Is it livable? The remaining survivors get more surprises in this book along with secrets that become out in the open. Especially Netty, I was like wow! There is so much I could go onto this review but I feel as though I would give away spoilers or the book itself. The ending is not what I was expecting it kind of broke my heart.
We all know Ginger Mae from the books before she was given something by the Hive to take care of, and she made a decision that I was surprised at. It was the right then to do even though she was hurting to do it. I have to give her props on that. There are more people than just who live in the Hive, and these people are trying to change for the best, but of course we know how that goes when you have someone who still is evil. What these people did to the deformed babies I wanted to throw my kindle (thank goodness I didn't) because I was sick. But hey Karma comes into play and the Hive sets right what was wrong by who? Of course us humans.
I am sad this series has come to an end, but answers to questions are answered. We learn who exactly is the One and we learn so much from the characters. There is sadness, hope, love, anger so many emotions you will feel. The story line is awesome, the plot and the twist that go along is just too great. I think I am speechless on how to word it correctly. A really great series that I would say hey give it a read you will enjoy it I am almost certain.

The previous books in this series I thoroughly enjoyed and I couldnt put them down but with this finally book there was something missing and I can't put my finger on it. The author has a fantastic imagination to create such a great book series which I can honestly see as a movie but the ending to me was disappointing. I had already predicted who 'The One' was long ago, so I was not surprised when it was announced. But to me it was the right person all along but I did expect more from 'The One'. My other issue was the whole baby talk. Now if you have read the previous books you will know that Kenya is very vocal and she wants nothing more than to give birth to her baby. So when this talk happened I was disappointed that the author didnt let Kenya get a say, because I know I would be extremely vocal if I had to be pregnant for over 80 years and to hear that no more babies will be born etc. I just feel the author could have fitted it in somewhere. The final issue for me was Seth. Not Seth himself but the way the author focused on his homosexuality in detail. Now if the author had spoken about sexual desires of other characters, or the rapes, etc then yes maybe this would have fitted in but to me it didnt fit in. There was no need to explain his desires in detail. To me he was gay and I thought okay no big deal. Besides that it was a not bad story. There was a few surprises both sad and happy. I do like the way the author has left the story open and maybe one day, we can hope, that maybe she continues the story or does spin offs.
With every ending there's a beginning. That's nothing new for the survivors of the day of the bombs. I was so impressed with this wonderful series. Each and every one of the books in the series is very hard to put down and The One is no different. I found myself drawn into the new world that the survivors entered after leaving the womb. Things were revealed that I had suspected but had no proof of, JK Accinni keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat right until the end. You could never get too comfortable because amazing plot twists kept you guessing. Throughout the whole species series the characters were so well developed and defined. A motley assortment of survivors who come together to work together to save the animals of the earth. So many secrets were finally revealed in the book and it was so cool to see where each of the survivors' stories led them and where they ended. If I had to say anything bad about this book is that JK Accinni killed some characters and that made me sad :( There was a flawless transition from storyline to storyline until the lines intersected and wove together beautifully. The final moments were amazing and so poignant. She ended the story perfectly, I'm hoping for more from these survivors. Maybe one day. JK Accini is such a beloved author to me. I can't wait to see what she does next.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The One (Species Intervention #6609 Book 6) by J.K. Accinni is another awesome read! I adored the beginning of the book as we learn there is a tribe of survivors in the Franklin Mines. The very mine that the Kreyven got all of the wonderful gems stones to make the bathing cave in the Hive. This tribe has been doing some hideous things. Many are deformed and babies with huge deformities are not allowed to live.
The Womb shows its generous side by allowing the Elders to save them from starvation by sharing Netty's wondrous seeds. Anonymously.... We meet Suzy again and her offspring's. What a tale they have to tell. Life comes full circle as the evil (greed, power and jealousy) that is inherent in man blossoms forward to again destroy the Earth.
My heart was broken over the scene with Scotty, Chloe and the Flamer. I could feel every burning ray from the sun as Chloe's life was ripped to shreds.
**No spoilers here. You will be surprised by the unveiling of The One. What a series! I will long remember and pray there is another chapter in the lives of the characters I have grown to love.
Yet another smasher from J.K Accinni! All of her work has such an imaginative writing style and it is very hard to put one of her books down once you have started reading. This book was no different!
Some parts of the book was very hard hitting, but it is definitely what kept me engaged and thirsting for the next one… which is apparently not released until next year!
The author engrosses you with elements of suspense and surprise, which I love, and this has been the reason I have become such a huge fan of hers. The swerves and alterations in the story line kept me guessing and the ending (which I wont spoil!) was definitely a shocker!
After reading this book, it is pretty hard to not look around at the world we live in and question quite a few questions. When you read this, you will understand why I became so emotionally attached to the gripping story throughout each chapter.
If you want to read a Sci-Fi, which is engaging and highly thought provoking, I would definitely recommend this book! The author never disappoints!
Finally...a new alien world instead of the old familiar one
This is the last of the series although I heard there might be another out in aug 2014. Good thing. I am already having withdraws. Our survivors have surfaced and now live in a post apocalyptic world. Try starting over from scratch with just a few tools. A good thing they have the Kreyven who is no longer such a terrifying monster now that everyone understands what it is.
I love the introduction of the new creatures and the evil that is perculating with the tribe at the mines. I can see it's a vicious circle with our species. The thirst for power and violence will always be there.
Loved the blind side on who The One is. I didn't see it coming. The scene with the flamer (no spoiler) was full of realism. I could feel my underarms sweating along with Chloe and the tiger, Caeser.
This has been a great series that kept me on my toes. I looked back on book one and saw how far the story has come and I am mesmerized. Wonderful, imaginative series, masterfully executed.
The One is the sixth installment to the species intervention series. This book follows the survivors through the many years in the hive and when they finally leave it to see the new world. It isn't my favorite installment of the book as I didn't feel that it had as much emotion or action as some of the others in the series. However I still found it to be a very good read! I like how it tied all the loose ends together, and we FINALLY learn who The One really is! It wasn't as unexpected as I thought it would be either. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and still find myself wishing for just one more book because I felt the ending still left some things to be anwsered, though not many. I must sadly just accept that this is the end for now. I hope Accini thinks about picking it up again in the future or starting another equally amazing series.
WOW The One is the last book in the Species Intervention series Netty, Will,Jose, Abby, and Scotty are back with the rest of the survivors of the war and things are going great. In this book they are years after the war and in another cave there are a whole new crowd of survivors where men ruled and woman were like slaves Suzy was a woman who took care of the children kept them from harm and woman also. Suzy was the granddaughter of Clyde from the hive. In this book the survivors from the hive are ready to start life back outside and all hell breaks loose look for twists in this story I loved it Kelly brought it once again shes such a great author!Im getting ready to read the series over again.
I am so sorry to see the conclusion of one of my most interesting discoveries. This series has sucked me in, churned me up and left me reeling. It will forever be close to my heart. I know I will see Baby and Echo, Wil and Netty, Scotty and Chloe and Kenya and Kane in my dreams but I feel lost. The author made me live in their world, cry with them, scream with them, rejoice with them...and love with them. I respect the authors commitment to her cautionary warning. We must learn how to respect one another, wildlife and the planet. Such a difficult thing to do in these sad and desperate times.
As a side note...can anyone help me?? I heard a rumor there will be one last book. I thought this was it but I NEED to know!
Time has flown, and its almost time to go back out into the world. Once they step out Kenya goes into labor, but because of the way the Hive works, she has to deliver the baby outside. They post 2 guards out but something attacks and kills them, new type of bird called a Flamer. But the group slowly rebuilds. The other tribe come looking for the spot, and find the members. But where the Hive members grew to think of themselves as family, the other tribe was raised on hatred and who should control things. Jealousy and hatred are things the Womb doesnt like, and since the whole cleaning of the planet was because of those things.......the Womb has to fix things again.....I cant wait for book 7 to see whats next!!!!
Well, the final book in the series starts 100 years later. The people inside the hive have not aged and are in perfect health. Those on the outside are struggling and fighting amongst themselves.
There are lots of twists and turns in this book, so I won't elaborate on them as that will take away their importance.
Will and Nellie finally tell everyone what to expect and that they will be leaving the hive. The world is so different from the one they left. New plants, new animals, new climate.
They do meet up with some of the survivors and it is bittersweet.
All loose ends are tied up and the end was NOT what I expected.
Good job done reminding us that animals are important.
I'm sad as I write this review because i've finished the series. I've loved this series from the beginning and was eagerly waiting for the last installment. This book has twists and turns and revelations. Questions answered. Sad moments. Very happy moments and Devastating moments. It was everything I was hoping for and more. There were several moments that had me in tears. I've come to love these characters and I'm so sad that this amazing ride with them is over now. This series will make you stop and wonder about what we are doing to our planet and our animals and humanity.
This had been one of the most emotional series I have ever read. I know it's supposed to be sci fi but It seemed too real to life with normal people.A few nutcases here and there but that's normal too, isn't it? This sensational series got better with every new book, unlike some that fail to keep consistency. I will sorely miss the motley crew of survivors and wonderful animals that revolved around one of the most detailed and original sagas of armageddon I have ever had the luck to come across. This is one you don't want to miss!
The series drew me in. As a strong feminist, I appreciated the strong spirituality of the women. but the theme is far too negative about men. It would appear that all evil comes from men. Nope, I can't accept that idea. Also, the story ends with this book. Further stories just jump the shark. Don't bother reading any more of series. All in all, great idea for the plot, but political and cultural dogma took over, ruining what could have been a fine saga.
Great end of this series, with lots of things happening you could have expected from the previous books, lots of surprises up to the end. The One was not who I expected it to be, but not a big surprise either. Just wished human beings could be more like they were supposed to be, caring about each other and everything around them. But we can only hope we'll learn a lesson from these books. Thanks a lot for letting me enjoy the ride through the end of the world with this series!
What an end to an awesome series! The One was so different than I expected it to be. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! I ended up finishing the book in 2 days. While the series started off in a unique way, it ended in an even more unique way. I ended up both sad and excited by the outcome of the book. I would love to have another series follow this one that told the future of the characters after the end of this book!
I have truly loved this series from the beginning. Im not usually a fan of sci-fi, but this series captured my heart. This author took an amazing concept to a whole new level. Humans have basically destroyed the Earth and intervention is needed. In the final book of the series we learn how truly corrupt humans have become. I am sad this series is over! "Life goes on, no matter the heartbreak." Very true quote that fits the story perfectly. WaAR
Review: Author J.K. Accinni does it again in her 6th book of the Species Intervention #6609 series. I was not disappointed with this book. In fact, I was quite surprised the way the book turned out. I loved how the author was able to add a bit of mystery into this book as well as the normal Sci-Fi aspects and the survival aspects. I'd recommend this book to any Sci-Fi fan!
very sad to see this series end. I've followed it from the start. i'm hoping there is a spin off for it.
this book ... what can I say? some parts I thought would happen, and others made me gasp out loud and I could NOT believe what just happened! I was so shocked at one point I had to put it down to take a break, but 5 minutes later I had to pick it back up because I couldn't stand not knowing!
