This is the story of Claire, her father, his lover, and the volcano. When she finds her father at death's door for no apparent reason, deliriously whispering about "Angelique" and "Jean-Luc" and "the eighth of May, " Claire is drawn into a complex mystery. Devastated by her father's impending death, she decides that if she can piece together the clues her father has given her, she may somehow be able to save his life.
In search of answers, Claire sets out on an amazing journey to the Caribbean island of Martinique. When she arrives, she quickly realizes that someone wants her dead. As if that weren't enough, Claire meets an intriguing shaman and soon finds herself undergoing a spiritual journey outside her physical body, transporting her beyond the limits of time and space. It's there she relives the events that led to her father's unfathomable illness, and realizes there's more to life and death than meets the eye. Her mystical journey gives her the answers she seeks, and new insights that forever change her life.
A very enjoyable read .I especially enjoyed the historical aspect . After having read 'The Last Moon' by Deann Lubell I found this author's description of the island and the events of the tragedy to be very familiar. It is obvious this author researched these events very thoroughly. I found it hard to stop reading, it was suspenseful and fast paced and the out of body experience details were fascinating. This book had it all, suspense, adventure, romance , inspiration, humor and a feel good happy ending.
Time travel and foodoo are not my cup of tea. Not a physicist either. Did not understand most of book. Skipped to the end just to see if everything worked out.
