Mystic Falls #3

Lexi Lets Go

Rate this book
Lexi Turner manages the Mystic Falls Inn and is hardworking, almost to a fault. She has never taken the time to explore her own wants and dreams. When she was younger, she couldn’t because life was hard, but now that she can, she just doesn’t know how.

Liam James is a pop superstar. People love him because he is a free spirit who fosters a culture of inclusivity with his fans. But the scandals that follow him have left him feeling alone and adrift. He is on the search for his muse and his direction.

When his bus breaks down hundreds of miles off course in the sleepy little town of Mystic Falls, they both may have just met their match. He might just be the wind in her sails, and she might just be his guiding light in the storm.

so in conclusion (since this is the last book out of the four i had left to read) i would say this series is cute. and its okay.

overall the fourth book was my favorite, but i would say this third one might actually be my least favorite. and dont get me wrong, i love the idea of a meddling witch, but it just ends up feeling like fat women need a magic spell because that’s the only way they’ll find the perfect person for them.

it pains me to ever rate a romance with fat representation low, but this series could have been so much more, and i wish it was.

This is the best ARC I have ever had the pleasure of reading. You can tell a lot of love and careful eye went into making it perfect from the start. This IS an instant love story. It’s happy, sweet, and cozy. It’s low drama and did not trigger my anxiety once, which was kind of a nice change. I usually don’t enjoy this genre/these tropes. I prefer grit, drama, and tension. Mary Warren might have changed my mind and made me a believer. Well done!

This book is soothing and familiar like chicken soup but not at all boring or ordinary. The MMC is a total cinnamon roll. I found the characters to be relatable and had depth despite the fast pace.

I also think this book is fat positivity done right! Fat was not the FMC whole personality and identity- fat was just something she had. No big deal. Although it came up, it didn’t feel like the entire focus. She wasn’t portrayed as some hideous monster that was unlovable and questioned her worth. I love Olivia Dade but I think May Warren handled fatness in an even better way and I enjoyed the portrayal more. I was never left feeling badly about myself or thinking about how negatively others must see me (a fat person.)

Although the scenarios in the book are clearly fictional and unrealistic- it felt understandable as to why these 2 were drawn to one another. Not to mention whirlwind romances do happen (I speak from experience and going 16yrs strong.)

As a side you don’t need to be a HS fan or fat to enjoy this book. It’s a cozy read that will appeal to anyone who loves sweet rockstars, towns like Stars Hollow, and oldest daughter (IYKYK- responsible, carry the weight of the world, etc) vibes. These 2 characters show how opposites can attract and balance one another’s lives and I think that’s really beautiful.

This book includes cute text messages (I enjoy those in a book.) There is also a playlist which I absolutely adore.

My only criticism is that everything aligned a little too perfectly (ex: his career changes and timing with Lexi) It made things feel a little too perfect, that paired with the instant love was a little sugary. I’d have enjoyed a longer timeline and a little bit of obstacles to overcome.

I picked this up because of the amazing cover (look at the prettiness!! and the very lovely plus size rep 😭 and the overall swooniness!!), and I'm so glad I did, the romance was so sweet and good <3

It's a rockstar ish, small-town ish romance, with soul mate energy + fast burn themes. And there's no third act breakup, yay, I loved how the miscommunications were handled with patience and trust. And the hea was so sweet <3

TWs - fatphobia by media, invasion of privacy of a celebrity by media (esp regarding his dating life and his sexuality), isolation of a person from their loved ones, death of parent followed by the other parent becoming an alcoholic and eventually abandoning the kids (past)

3.75 / 5 (rounded down for Goodreads)

A quick, flirty read about an idyllic little town, magic, and finding love in unexpected places, Lexi Lets Go has some great parts that could pull a reader in.

LIKES
-Lexi stood out as a main character all her own. She has a great personality and confidence in herself as a fat woman. We need more fat-friendly fat representation out there. Her trauma is well articulated throughout the story, and I appreciate the vulnerability required in crafting her character.

-The sex-positive narrative made me happy. I would rate it maybe a 1.5 on the spice scale, but the focus on not airbrushing Lexi's body out of sex scenes made it clear how much the author cares about genuine romance rep for fat women.

-I liked the handling of James' bisexuality, and it wasn't used as a plot point or something that people fetishized. His sexual fluidity and orientation were treated with the utmost respect. That might be the "bare minimum," but I want to applaud the author's tact.

-It's apparent that Lexi's story is interconnected with previous stories and characters centered in Mystic Falls. However, this book never gets too in-depth with those stories and avoids confusing any potential readers who may have started the books out of order.

-One of my favorite tropes to exist is the celebrity x average person, so that happened to be one of the selling points. While I've never been a Harry Styles girl, the loose inspiration was clear and meaningful to the author.

DISLIKES
-There were times when the writing style clashed with me as a reader, specifically in some spaces. Those problem spots felt clunky and could've used an extra pair of eyes from an editor or secondary beta reader.

-Maybe I've been spoiled on slowburns, but this story seemingly falls into the insta love trap instead of defining a clear line between instant attraction and love. It's something a lot of Hallmark-style books experience, but it did take me out of my immersion.

-Additionally, the timeline of 2 weeks became my biggest gripe. While I am all for suspending disbelief and letting fiction be fun, I almost turned into Jacinda with skepticism about how quickly it all happened. In 2 weeks, I'm supposed to believe that a mega superstar is willing to settle down with a woman he met, buy property next to her, and confess his love. It's a bit of a stretch.

-There were times when I felt the chemistry missed the needed hoops. Often, these moments were more where the author told us how the characters felt instead of showing the connection through actions. I think some more unspoken actions can mitigate this problem.

-Finally, I was under the impression from the prologue and things I saw from the other books that magic would be involved in these love stories. However, that thread never fully came to fruition, in my view. Was the tarot reading supposed to be the magic connection because tarot is a bit more complex than "magic"?

Overall, it was a cute read, and I think it'll find a good audience. Thanks to the author Mary Warren for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you so much to Mary Warren for an advance copy of this book!

This book will be published on June 27th.

Ya'll don't be sleeping on this series!!! Now I do need to go back and read the 2nd book in the series and after reading this I will for sure be going back.

"It was official. She was now the leader of the Liam James fan club."

This book took up my entire weekend and I could not stop reading it. I didn't really know who the inspo was prior to reading this but naturally as I do with most male leads I picture Harry Styles. And it didn't help that I had been in a haze from all the recent content on his tour and it was just overload between the images/videos coming from that and then reading this.

So many times as I was reading this that I was doing kicks and internally screaming at the characters. I just love how when Mary writes there is a reason for certain things happen and then it is reference in the future. I also love how that there wasn't a super huge 3rd act conflict that normally happens in so many romances. They were able to communicate and talk things out. A few times I had been waiting for it to happen (the concert, the fortune teller confession) but then it was resolved.

"...the thought of you being far away from me physically hurts me."

Mary Warren your spice is *chef's kiss*! I love reading these stories where I can see myself as the main character. I appreciate Mary for writing these characters and showcasing the different body types and that we all are deserving of love. I especially loved how it was so clear that Liam James fell first and so happy that we got both point of views. He just was so dedicated to Lexi's happiness and only wanted to make her comfortable. And Lexi, she understood the position he was in and knew that it was not going to be an easy road. I loved her confidence and how she could just tune out the negativity and how it always came back to, he only had eyes for her.

If you are looking for a bisexual rockstar romance with a fat FMC that takes place in a small town & lots of spice!!!

Thank you to Mary Warren for providing an ARC for an honest review.

This book was a cute and fun read. I loved Lexi and really related with her eldest daughter personality (iykyk). She is a great big sister, and I really felt her when reading about her isolating herself so her brother can live his life and not knowing how to balance that relationship. I also love that the fmc was fat but it wasn’t to the point it was her whole personality or the whole focus of the book. She’s just fat, it is what it is.

Liam is a hunk and a half, with a cinnamon roll personality, and he’s openly bi/pan/sexually fluid which I love. Also they didn’t fetishize this fact which I LOVE. It’s hard to find a balance there and Mary really nailed it.

As an ARC, I wasn’t expecting perfection and it definitely wasn’t. It was super clunky at times, and Mary had a habit of telling instead of showing how relationships progressed.

*spoilers begin here.*

I’m also not a fan of instalove, I know most romances are unrealistic but instalove just feels boring to me. Watching relationships progress is half the fun for me. Like she just met this rockstar two weeks ago, and you expect me to believe he’s just gonna change his entire life, buy a plot of land and move in together? Bleh. Just overall everything happened SO quickly and SO perfectly with almost no hurdles. It just takes me out of being immersed in the book.

I do love how the couple does remain child free AND unmarried in the epilogue which was a nice and refreshing change. I have no doubt this will definitely find its perfect audience and I’m happy for that. It was a cute quick read that I don’t regret.

Y’all! I picked up the Mystic Falls series because I saw a TikTok about this book in particular. But if you know me at all, I have to read books in order, so I read the first two first.

I loved the first two books, plus size FMCs? Hellooooo right up my alley.

The first two books have nothing on Lexi Lets Go.

LLG is such a sweet, insta love, rockstar romance that just made me feel cozy. I literally read it all in one night. There’s no third act breakup, a sweet HEA, just good vibes all the way around.

Spice wise, it is open door and quite spicy. Liam is pretty much everything you could ask for in a MMC. The fact that he was based off of Harry Styles is helpful too 😘

There are some trigger warnings to be aware of: death of a parent and alcoholism in the other (in the past, and mentioned briefly) and fatphobia in the press are the main ones.

I feel like the way Mary Warren writes her main female characters is the best I have seen plus size characters written. As a plus sized person myself, I am fully confident in who I am, it’s nice to read characters that are that way as well. Yes they are fat, but that’s not the only thing (or the most important thing) about them.

Overall, if you love sweet romances, I highly recommend!

Another feel good romance from indie author, Mary Warren set in the Mystic Falls universe. In this story, we get to know Josh's sister Lexi better and how her life gets turned upside down when rock star Liam James gets stranded and has to stay at the inn she manages. While I'm not always a fan of insta-love stories like this one, I found it worked well and I loved how open and vulnerable the two main characters were with one another. Great fat rep and queer (bi) rep and lots of cameos from past favs in the series. This was a quick, very enjoyable read with a number of steamy scenes. Highly recommended and it can be read as a standalone but works better after reading Josh and Poppy's story. Many thanks to the author for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book and all opinions are my own.

This is the first book I've read from this author and by God it was so freaking good. I love that this book can be read as a standalone because I wasn't lost or confused while reading this. I loved the fact that the town is called Mystic Falls because it reminded me of the Vampire Diaries haha. Now let's get down to business. Lexi is freaking fantastic. A plus size queen who accepts herself and her body and doesn't give a poop about others opinions. Liam a pop star who has lost his muse and is trying to get back in touch with himself who is smex on a stick. The fact that he is bi and doesn't care about the bodies but the personalities is what made me fall in love with him. The slight age gap was a bit of a surprise and I love it. This couple gave me so many feels that my heart hurt. I laughed, teared up a bit and yelled at the book. Yes I yelled because of a character who really annoyed the crap out of me haha. Oh and did I mention it gets steamy!!! I really need to read the first two now because I am hooked!!! Gosh this book had me giddy and swooning hard as frick. Liam is now one of the many book boyfriends that have my heart.

This was a cute story with a great concept, but for me there were a few things that I struggled with.

First let’s talk about what I enjoyed - I loved that we had a plus sized FMC, I’m always thrilled when I get to read about women who look like me who are getting the love and attention they deserve, so this was a win! I’m also a huge Harry Styles fan so I found Liam a fun MMC. I like the rock star romance trope and also forced proximity which we got a bit in the beginning.

I struggled with the timeline in this book - in the span of two weeks these characters just meet, claim they love each other and decide to build a house together. For me personally this was unrealistically fast, and yes it is fiction and I can normally let it slide if this happens over like two months or something but here I was hard to wrap my head around completely upheaving your life after two weeks. I also found I had a hard time connecting with these characters, I think it came down to the writing style - for me it felt more like the author was telling me things rather than showing them to me. It might work for some readers but it was a miss for me.

Overall this is a cute, quick, spicy romance with a plus size lead which I’m happy exists in the romance space.

Thanks to the author Mary Warren for providing me an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I didn’t know this book was a part of a series, though I don’t think I missed out on anything too important by not having read the others.

This story follows Lexi, a woman who runs a local inn. Liam, a famous singer, shows up one day because his bus broke down. They have an instant connection and start to explore each other.

This story was just fine. I did find myself cringing at some of the word choices for female anatomy, but overall mellow spice scenes. I liked Lexi coming into her own and realizing she deserves to be cared for too. I also liked Liam’s vulnerability. The fat rep is also pretty good in this book. Lexi takes no crap from anybody. I don’t love “insta love” so this story wast my favorite unfortunately, but it was a quick read for a Sunday afternoon!

Thank you to the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This series will always hold a special place in my heart. I love a small town romance but add in that every single FMC is fat it makes me so happy. Sometimes there is like 1 and they always are insecure and feel unworthy of love. Mary shows us that we are worthy.

Lexi is the sister of Josh from book 2. She has held them together from a young age when death and abandonment made the two of them have to grow up way too quickly. Lexi kept walls up and didn’t think that she would ever have that special someone because she didn’t see it in the cards with her life and how busy it was. But enter in Liam, (Harry Styles inspired) MMC who’s bus broke down and now he is stuck in Mystic Falls and he’s happy about it. He has needed a break and has been struggling with how the music industry has been taking over his life and seeing him as a good versus a person.

We see both of them grow as people through their relationship. I loved that a lot. I love the little touch of magic that happens with this series. I loves seeing some of the other characters come back into the book. Just overall I loved it!

Mary always writes incredible Fat Rep and I feel safe in her work. Liam is bi / pan(how character describes his sexuality) - he is very gender fluid and I loved that too. He strived to make his music safe for all.

Thank you to Mary, the author for an ebook copy to read and review! I am so thankful for authors like you putting out positive fat rep into the world of romance books.

okay this is the perfect book if you want a cute, short romance and if you love books with a fast pacing. the entire book is about a period of 2 weeks and then you have the epilogue 2 years later. honestly personally, i thought this book was okay. i’ve read better but i’ve also read worse.
things i loved:
- famous rockstar romance!!
- the representation of the plus size fmc and the way she loved her own body even though people made comments about her!!!!!
this i disliked:
- the speed of the whole story. the mmc literally said in their first date, i think two days after they met, that he wanted to sleep with her and thought the day after that he loved her. after two weeks they decided to build a house together? that’s just a little bit too fast for me.
- the way the fmc said multiple times “i can’t believe this is really happening.”

anyways like i said earlier, this book is perfect if you want a short cute lil story - 3,5/5 stars for me

I was able to read an ARC of Lexi Lets Go!

Mary Warren has done it again with this cozy, rockstar romance with wonderful plus size representation in our FMC, Lexi. I think so many of us can resonate with Lexi’s story, not meeting her own needs and staying busy… but in walks Liam, a gentle, loving (and tattooed!) rockstar.

This is the 3rd book in the Mystic Falls series, and I’ve loved the plus size representation throughout.

I appreciate the way Mary dealt with external fat phobia in a really gentle way. It was wonderfully done. And I especially loved Poppy and Hannah sharing their clothes with her, this made me so happy, because it is a rarity. Pure fat joy here!!

If you enjoy a cozy romance with some spice, and of course plus size representation, I highly recommend Mary’s books!

P.s. I want to be described as a squismallow for all my days!

This might be my favorite book Mary Warren has written. 🖤

I love how this book felt like a sweet slice of life romance with mentions of important issues fat people deal with in day to day life. I loved the bisexual representation, but wished more of his public image had been talked about or addressed later in the story. I recommend this entire series to anyone looking for cozy romances, fat representation or magical intervention.

Thanks Mary for the ebook arc! All thoughts are my own. 🖤

Such a good book! I got an ARC copy and couldn’t wait to dive in. Related to Lexi in the way of the big sister and having to put other’s needs before my own all my life. And just the sweet way Liam comes in and gets past her walls. And the hot ways Liam shows she can be a beautiful woman despite her size. My heart broke for Liam when he found out how much he was taken advantage by his label. I’m glad Liam and Lexi found each other and got to their best places together.

I've really been enjoying Mary Warren's Mystic Falls series of novels, and Lexi Lets Go is no exception. In fact, I think this might be my favorite one yet. I think my favorite thing about this series is the way the heroes and heroines have specific things that compliment each other in a way I don't always see in other novels. In this instance, Lexi needs a break. She has been grinding day in and day out since she was in high school and now, in her thirties, without needing to take care of her brother anymore, she can finally take stock of her life and stop living to just exist and get by, but she doesn't know how to do that. Enter Liam James as a Harry Styles type rocker who just wants to live his life authentically, but with a label and a team that won't let him. Liam is desperate for some inspiration, and luckily for him, Mystic Falls and our favorite witch, have just the muse he's looking for.
Overall the characters are engaging and the book is well paced and moves quickly. If you're looking for a good insta-love romance, I highly recommend this one.

I was so excited to read and review Mary Warren's Lexi Lets Go. I mean, I am all for romance, but I am definitely all in for fat-rep in all books. Correction: I am all in for POSITIVE fat-rep in books.

**some spoilers ahead - though, I don't think there can be real spoilers in a romance. But alas, you have been warned**

Lexi Lets Go is a lovely book about Lexi, a woman who had to grow up way too fast since losing her mom and having an absent dad. I felt the backdrop of a magical little town like Mystic Falls was perfect for this book. I haven't read the other books that take place in there, but I bet they have the same kind of magical feel that Lexi does.

I appreciated how Lexi's loneliness and grief at what could have been is described. I believe most of us attribute the act of grief with people, when grief can be attached to any loss. And, honestly, grieving what could have been is something that I don't think many people talk about. Bravo to Warren for making that such a important detail of her book.

Oh, and there's a part where I thought we were going to have the cookie-cutter fat-rep scene where the fat MFC misunderstands and gets hurt at the slight about her weight, but that didn't happen! On the contrary, Lexi is like, "uh, nothing I haven't heard before buddy, can we move on?" and I loved it.

With all that positive said, I do have some things that I didn't like. Keep in mind, these are things I didn't like.

So, this story does something interesting in that it simultaneously felt way too short and yet way too long. It's a really strange sensation actually. I kept looking at the page count, wondering why I hadn't moved along further when our characters are moving quite swiftly. There is definitely insta-love in this story which might be because of the magical aspect of this story, however, I felt it happened too quick, and I didn't get to enjoy Lexi and Liam falling for each other. I'm a big character reader, and I like to fall in love with characters. I didn't get the chance to here.

I wish I could have had more background on Liam in order to fully form him in my mind. I had a really hard time holding onto an image of him as I read, which honestly, I had no idea I did until I read this book lol.

I also wish I could have had more about Lexi and her brother. As someone who hasn't read the previous books, I would have loved more interaction or inner dialogue for Lexi regarding her brother.

So, although there were parts I very much enjoyed about Lexi Lets Go, there were some instances that kept me from rating it higher than I did. But as I mentioned, you might really love these things. And if you do - all power to you! Go read it!

~~~~
First of all I’d like to thank author Mary Warren for the ARC. The novel will be available on June 27!!
Let’s go Lexi was a reading that I enjoyed very much, the pen of the author is really light and quite fast. As for the main characters Liam and Lexi were totally cute, the communication they maintained and how they expressed their feelings was really nice to read. All the magic of Mystic falls, descriptions and drama keep you hooked from start to finish.
In this novel the author shows us the importance of resting, taking the necessary time to be ourselves and knowing each other, sometimes we forget how important it is to have the time to do something we like and just enjoy the moment.
We have a curvy protagonist who accepts and loves herself as she is, doesn’t let others define who she is or how she should love herself, she is sure of herself and her feelings.
Liam is an openly bisexual character with a music career full of fame and some scandalous but with a heart of gold willing to change his life to have Lexi by his side and be happy.
I highly recommend this novel and hope you enjoy Mystic falls and its magic will accompany you.
Overall I ended up pretty neutral on this book and would give it a 3.5 rating if the platform allowed.
In general I enjoyed Lexi as a character and specifically appreciated reading about a fat woman who eats lean cuisine for dinner most nights not because she is dieting but simply because she hates cooking (hard same, Lexi 😂).
I also liked that in the end she got to just stop working and live her best life doing whatever she wants after like 20 years of taking care of her brother and getting kinda stuck in her old life after he got married and left.
Liam was very sweet and I always enjoy meeting a fictional bisexual or pansexual guy who has a canon history of a significant relationship with at least 1 person who is a different gender than the current cis woman love interest.
I very specifically liked when he made sure he got the larger size hotel robe for Lexi so she’d be able to luxuriate properly on their night in; however, it was a little strange that a small town inn run by a fat woman wouldn’t already have the 2 different size options for the robes automatically included in each room in the first place.
Like some other reviewers, a thing I couldn’t really get past was how short the timeline was, which affected how I felt about a lot of the actual love story.
I don’t really mind the instant love trope but among other things i do think the story would’ve felt more believable if they’d waited more than like 2 weeks of knowing each other to decide to buy property and build a house together.
The steamy scenes didn’t really hold my attention very much but they were fine for the type of book this is, if a bit repetitive.
I think this book will be popular with a lot of people for a variety of reasons but I would’ve liked it to be a bit longer in order to flesh out the characters more (for example i’d have enjoyed reading about them visiting liam’s family for the birthday party and getting to know him more that way).
That being said, I do think I would go back and check out the first couple of books in the series because they seem like decent stories to read when you’re in the mood for reading something cute and low-stakes and I like the idea of them all being interconnected and taking place in the same town.
(I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own and were shared voluntarily)
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Review:
"Lexi Let's Go of Mary Warren" is an extraordinary book that beautifully captures the essence of personal growth and the power of letting go. From the very first page, author Mary Warren takes readers on an emotional and thought-provoking journey that will resonate deeply with anyone who has experienced the complexities of relationships and the challenges of self-acceptance.
The story revolves around the remarkable character of Lexi, who finds herself in a situation where she must confront her inner demons. As the narrative unfolds, we witness Lexi's transformation from a conflicted and hesitant individual to a resilient and empowered woman. The author skillfully weaves together the intricacies of Lexi's personal life, her past traumas, and her quest for self-discovery, creating a truly immersive reading experience.
One of the book's greatest strengths lies in the author's ability to depict the emotions and struggles of the characters in a raw and authentic manner. Lexi's journey is an emotional rollercoaster, and as readers, we empathize with her pain, frustrations, and triumphs. The narrative beautifully captures the complexity of human relationships, showcasing the delicate balance between love, attachment, and personal growth.
Moreover, the book explores themes of forgiveness, resilience, and the courage to embrace change. Through Lexi's story, readers are reminded of the importance of letting go of the past, embracing new opportunities, and embracing self-love. The author's prose is eloquent and evocative, painting vivid pictures that transport readers into the heart of the story.
"Lexi Let's Go of Mary Warren" is a literary gem that captivates with its profound insights and relatable characters. The pacing is impeccable, keeping readers engaged from start to finish. The book also delves into important societal issues, shedding light on the complexities of mental health, the power of friendship, love and the transformative nature of self-discovery.
In conclusion, "Lexi Let's Go of Mary Warren" is an exceptional book that deserves the highest praise. It will touch your heart, challenge your perspectives, and leave a lasting impact on your soul. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone seeking a compelling and thought-provoking tale of growth, love, and the power of letting go.
“Lexi Lets Go” by Mary Warren is the third in the Mystic Falls series and while there are characters from the town and other stories who make cameos here, the novel, like the previous entries, are stand-alone. I received an ARC of the novel from the author, but the review is my own.
This was a great read, and Mary Warren certainly has her pulse on what I – and I’m sure many others – want from a modern romance right now. This is a book dedicated to slowing down, to taking stock and recharging, especially if you’ve been go-go-go for years.
Now, if “Spotlight on Poppy” was grounded in a tale, “Lexi Lets Go” is that perfect blend of wish-fulfillment and realism. Liam James is a famous, rich rock star whose tour bus breaks down near Mystic Falls. He and Lexi Turner are instantly drawn to each other, and their whirlwind romance is as much about their connection as it is about making career and life choices that provide meaning and fulfillment.
Mary Warren creates stories about fat characters and is very deliberate in her representation that feels authentic but not preachy. In this story, our MMC, Liam, is bi- or pansexual, whose public image and music creates a safe and inclusive environment for his fans.
I really liked how this was a couple who are not interested in having children.
I also thought the rock star trying to find meaningful connections was well-done and believable. Liam James has had scandal in his past, and his music label has taken steps to protect his image, which has isolated and artistically frustrated him. But never fear it does not frustrate him in the bedroom – because those scenes were hawt. This was probably the smuttiest of the three Mystic Falls books.
Yes, the big music label as villain could be seen as predictable, but books need conflict and I thought this was well-done. I also enjoyed that there was no third-act breakup. While this type of plot point makes a lot of readers angry, I’m not opposed to dramatic conflict; rather, it’s usually the manner in which the breakup happens that is the problem (with abysmal communication being the worst way to handle the matter).
This was the most sophisticated of books I’ve read by the author and the whole series was a fun, entertaining read I recommend.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5/5
Chemistry: 🧪🧪🧪🧪🧪
Plot: 4/5
Series: Mystic Falls #3
Place: Mystic Falls, NY
Tropes: Rockstar Romance, BBW Romance, Small Town Romance, Instalove
TW: Car Accident, Fatphobia, gaslighting, child abuse, death of a parent, toxic relationship
Main Characters: Lexi + Liam
Lexi is a woman that so many women strive to be. Confident in herself and her body. So many women struggle with body image, whether they want to admit it or not. We are primed from a young age to not be "big." Which is utterly ridiculous, bodies are all shapes and sizes and no one should feel like they aren't good enough.
I have struggled with this for years. Growing up my mom groomed me to be against being above a certain size and tried to keep me as skinny as I could be. At my cost. It is such a hard road to be on and be able to come out the other side. I haven't made it yet but if you're there I applaud 👏👏👏 you!
I really loved Lexi and what she had to bring to the relationship with Liam. Her brother has been her world for so long that she struggles to find herself outside of that until Liam comes along. He gets her on Soo many levels and that's what she has been needing. Someone to be her person, that will be there for her and take care of her while she finds herself and who she really wants to be.
Liam isn't your typical rockstar, he is open, honest and straight forward about who he is and who he loves. Unconditionally. He isn't the one that will tuck tail and run in any fashion when the going gets tough. So finding that one person who not only gets him, but loves him not based on his stature.
There are so many things that could be said about Lexi and Liam and how they look to so many others. But that isn't up for discussion. They fit each other like a jigsaw piece fitting where it has been missing for too long.
I really enjoyed how much he loved her body and made sure that she knew it! He wasn't afraid to tell her, but she always was under no assumption that she was anything but beautiful!
I received a complimentary copy via the author. All opinions are my own, honest and voluntary.
I really need to know why, back when I was single that I was subjected to the horrors of online dating instead of having a woman use magic to find me my soulmate? Sounds kind of unfair.
Now, I’m just gonna go ahead and say it, there is insta-love in this book. The timeline between Liam’s bus breaking down, him meeting Lexi in the diner, and them being in love/building a house together is less than a month. Personally, I love that but that’s also because I love the idea of fate (or in this case a witch named Bridget) bringing two people together who just fall in love hard and fast. I’ll always eat it up.
This book was everything that I hoped it would be and more. After, albeit briefly, meeting Lexi in other books I was so excited for her to get her own story. Mary Warren did not disappoint and ultimately I am so happy with the direction the story went.
While there are so many lovable characters in this book, with some cameos from the previous books in the series, of course Lexi is my favorite. There were so many moments I just found myself relating to her, especially since we’ve both spent so much of our lives taking care of other people without really taking a break. Much like Lexi I’m finally learning that it’s okay to be taken care of and trying to let myself rest.
Last but definitely not least, rest assured that the fat rep is fantastic as always. Lexi loves her body and Liam absolutely adores her, which is incredibly clear by the sheer number of spicy scenes in the book. Mary Warren always does a fantastic job in this area and it’s one of the things I love most about her writing.
Thank you to Mary for the eARC of this book, it’s always such a joy reading your work
To me, this story was like reading a fairytale, Lexi is living her life on autopilot and never really putting herself first. Until the very popular Liam James, rock star, has an issue with his tour bus and arrives in her small hometown.
This then kick starts the attraction between both Liam and Lexi, and I definitely got the insta-love vibe from Liam.
With a promise of a few nights together, Lexi is reluctant to let Liam go back to New York and carry on with his stardom. However, Liam isn't ready to let his Lexi go and whisks her away with him.
As the story progresses, the couple are faced with a dilemma, which is typical to someone who is famous, and both Liam and Lexi have to face this in order to keep themselves together.
Liam, the MMC, is lovely, and from what I gather, it has LGBTQ+ representation as he is Pansexual. When I was reading, I very much felt like Mary was inspired by Harry Styles when creating Liam.
Lexi, the FMC, is plus size and doesn't let this get her down. She is fierce and confident within her body and who she is! I found her to be quite down to earth, and her confidence should be inspiring.
There was spice within the story and was spicey at times, and it was lovely to see Liam worship Lexi and her beautiful body.
There is a playlist at the end of the book for those who like to listen to it as they read, which also makes me feel Harry Style was an influence as he appears a lot on here!
Overall, I enjoyed this read, especially with the hidden message that it's okay to take a breath and time for yourself. We are always so busy and needing to finish everything, but this hits home it's okay to take a moment to yourself. So, if you're looking for a romance that is cute, fluffy, and feels like a fairytale, this would be the book for you.
La verdad es que es un libro demasiado lindo que te genera demasiadas emociones muy bonitas.
Disfruté leyéndolo demasiado e intenté demorarme para seguir disfrutándolo.
Liam y Lexi son demasiado lindos. Si bien, no me gusta demasiado cuando la historia transcurre en poco tiempo, entiendo por qué en este libro fue necesario, y la verdad es que quedó perfecto.
El tema del físico de Lexi creí que sería denso, pero me encantó que ella se amara, se respetara y no dejara que otros dictaran el amor propio que tiene hacia ella. Es algo que no se ve demasiado en libros con personajes con físicos distintos a la "norma", y me encantó que fuera así. Sus inseguridades, si bien humanas y reales, venían de otros aspectos de su vida, no de su cuerpo, y eso me hizo conectar demasiado con ella como protagonista.
Amé demasiado a algunos personajes, y odié con mi alma a otros. Se construye un mundo muy lindo de lo que es Mystic Falls y el pueblo.
Me gustó demasiado la construcción de ambientes creíbles, especialmente respecto al inn y a las cascadas.
Si sentí que a los diálogos les faltó un poquito de desarrollo. A veces iban demasiado rápido, o le faltaban descripciones que pudieron haber contribuido a generar diálogos más cercanos y descriptivos.
La trama es super buena, está super bien construida. El desarrollo final si fue un poquito rápido, y personalmente me habría gustado un poco más de drama, pero es un tema personal que no afecta a la historia.
La pluma de la autora es ligera y agradable, me encantó leerla y espero leer más de ella pronto.
