What neither one of them was expecting was discovering a shocking sexual affinity. True roles of master and slave translate perfectly in the bedroom, but Kian’s father didn’t buy Hunter to pleasure his son. He wants a cure and won’t settle for anything less. If Hunter fails, he’ll be sold. Each book in the Owned series is stand-alone and can be read in any order. ** A Siren Erotic Romance
Reading, writing, and white-water rafting are the three things Anitra Lynn enjoys the most. She is the author of erotic romances from contemporary to science fiction and everything in between. Even though her tales range from sensual to sizzling, with settings from the high rises of New York to the distant shores of an alien world, one thing all her stories share is compelling characters involved in unforgettable romances.
This book is a fascinating opening volume for a new science fiction series with alien abduction (of a sort) at its heart. Different from the Sold! series by the same author (a series that I enjoyed a lot), in this series it is a mysterious race, the Eoeans, who are behind the removal of human males from Earth. There is an official treaty with Earth politicians that allows them to do this, in exchange for having cured a mysterious virus that was killing off Earthlings by the millions. The consequences are the same as an abduction's: those taken are never heard from again, and nobody on Earth knows what happens to them.
Hunter is one such hapless male human. He is nineteen years old, in his first year of college, and has recently discovered (with his best friend as helper) that he's a submissive. When the call to present himself to the Eoeans comes, he is scared because he doesn’t know what is going to happen, but that is nothing compared to the fear that grips him when he meets his new owner, a terrifying alien named Kian. His new master is physically much stronger than Hunter, seems to have abusive tendencies, and threatens to sell him on if he doesn't do whatever it is Kian expects Hunter to do. Hunter, of course, has no idea what that is, but he refuses to be a doormat and sets out to discover what is going on.
Kian has lived with pain all his life, and even though Earthlings are rumored to be able to cure his disease, he doesn't believe it can happen. He can’t believe his father has fallen for the false promises and has bought him an Earthling anyway. His plan is to prove that Hunter is a fake, so he can get on with what little life he has left to live. But Hunter surprises him. The human isn’t aggressive, but he won’t let Kian terrorize him into admitting he's a fake either. It's almost as if he doesn't understand what he's supposed to do… Kian is intrigued.
The process of discovery these two go through is fascinating from a psychological point of view, and very hot. As they figure out, step by step, what the solution might be, they get to know each other better and better, and the intimacy they experience is as unexpected for Kian as it is welcomed by Hunter.
If you like science fiction stories with men from two vastly different cultures clashing then coming together, if you enjoy reading about truly alien planets, customs, and physiologies, and if you're looking for a hot read that offers a mystery to solve on top of some very interesting exploratory action between the sheets, then you will probably like this novella as much as I did. It's an excellent and very promising beginning to a new series.
NOTE: This book was provided by Siren Publishing for the purpose of a review on Rainbow Book Reviews.
I almost abandoned this after the...uglyish.. beginning.
After sticking with it, and reaching the end, I've become intrigued by the motivations of the Eoeans and how humans are getting 'matched' up with aliens... though I sincerely hope the main theme of the whole series isn't bdsm and dom/sub relationships. And on that note, what situation did Dalton walk into, I wonder?
*** Although this series is done with 2 different authors rotating writing stories, I strongly suggest you read the author in a row and NOT the number of the book i.e. read 1, 3 & 5 then read 2, 4 & 6. The authors only share a common theme. But within their own books some of the characters will continue in future stories***
The alien did me in here. IDK. I just wasn't prepared for a 7 ft tin lost boy here. I get it - but it didn't really gel with me. Hunter was ok - this was a rather quick book that actually felt like it took me a lot longer to read. I thought the ending 1/3 was great but the build up I just could not picture. I think it was the whole metal man part - and the fluorescent skin. I couldn't picture it in my head in a way that let me picture them together or having sex. The world to me consisted of some rooms that, in my head, were sort of like the old courthouse in my home town we used to go too. The ending part brought it up by a star or two. Not sure I'll continue the series.
I had to stop... I couldn't take it anymore. 80% through and I give up. The plot sounded interesting, but wow what a way to have nothing come of it.
The first chapter which was about 15% droned on about this fuck buddy relationship that had no bearing on the story whatsoever. I'm guessing the next in the series is the fuck buddy so they needed this chapter to tie them together.
Then it's basically sex, no story, no plot, and no explanation of why or what this whole disease is or why it's agonizing but awesome. I give up.
I liked it, but Hunter's easy acceptance of his fate was getting on my nerves a bit. He was scared at the begining but after going through the portal his attitude can be summed up by "tell me what to do and I'll do anything to please you". I'm not sure if I will continue this series. Maybe. Maybe not.
Hunter is scared to death when he receives a letter telling him he has been chosen in the alien lottery, nobody ever knows what happens to the young men who are picked and they are never heard of again. Kian has a terminal illness and his father has bought a human in an effort to cure him, Kian doesn’t believe that anything will ever give him relief from the tormenting pain but finds that with the human, Hunter, it is much more manageable with their sexual encounters. But, Kian’s father expects a full recovery and if he doesn’t get one Hunter will be sold.
This is a great new series that has an alien race coming to the rescue of humans and getting young men as payment. Everyone male knows what a plain white envelope with their name, address and social security number on means, it means you have been chosen in the lottery by the Eoeans and that your life as you know it has ended. Hunter receives his and wonders what he is about to face, but the reality of a metal encased alien never crossed his mind. Kian has suffered for years and Hunter gives him some semblance of peace, their connection as they fall in love is getting stronger and the mythical soul bond just might be true.
This is a very original new science fiction series where the human race was rescued from a deadly disease by an alien race who want human men as payment. Hunter is a very feisty submissive who goes from fear to arousal when he first meets his owner, Kian, he finds himself attracted to the stronger alien and wants nothing more than to submit to him, but he doesn’t understand what Kian really expects from him when Kian says he has failed. Kian has been promised a human will be able to cure him and is deeply disappointed when it doesn’t happen, he is even more surprised when he learns the human, Hunter, has no clue that he was promised as a cure. It doesn’t stop the two males from getting into a D/s relationship and falling in love and when the two are ripped apart it is discovered that the soul-bond myth is the truth.
The relationship between these two males’ progresses quickly after they both put their cards on the table, they develop a beautiful D/s relationship which is juicily kinky. Hunter and Kian fall in love but they both hold back a bit until they are nearly lost to each other. This is a great light hearted story that has a great storyline and some hot kinky sex, the characters are great with each one suiting his role perfectly and they have hot kinky sex. We get a great background story on both Hunter and Kian… oh did I mention they have hot kinky sex?
I recommend this to those that love kinky science fiction, hot kinky sex, a great storyline and a very happy ending after just a touch of angst.
Well... I don't know. It made me wonder if the author has parents, or rather anybody she would miss if suddenly taken away from them? It's like she concedes the ridiculousness of someone accepting such a fate by having throwaway lines about missing his mother, but knowing she'll be ok. Same with Hunter's friend Dalton: in the beginning he has a logical fear that Dalton is somewhere miserable, but that fear literally lasts one sentence and then Hunter is off to happily accept his slavehood. When he does think of Dalton (his best friend! The person he was speaking to right up until he left earth!) it was another throwaway line about "knowing" Dalton could take care of himself. But really, how could he know that?
It makes me worry for the humans in this series, worry about their ability for compassion and their ability for rational thought. What if Hunter wasn't the solution Kian was looking for? Then Kian would have no qualms with selling Hunter off. I saw the hint that Eoaens are doing this with a purpose, but ... That honestly just sounds dumb. If there's a purpose, then use communication. Hunter's parents have to live the rest of their lives having no idea what happened to their son. When I said compassion before, why does it never occur to these guys that although they may have had the lucky draw, there could be humans out there with someone terrifying and abusive? Yet, the humans don't mind falling in love and staying with aliens who condone this slavery system. There is never talk of bringing the human back to earth, setting him free, etc. This ultimately takes away my belief that the human could really, and truthfully consent to a relationship.
First off I must say that ALM must have done some serious research! The MC suffers from an incureable very painful disease. Reading this book was bittersweet for me. It was bitter bc I also suffer from a disease similar to that of the MC. It was wonderful to read about someone (fiction or not...) that was not only able to find love but able to use that love to cure what ails him. It was amazing how accuratly ALM was able to depict the mindset of someone in chronic pain. I felt like I was reading about myself...which was good and bad :/.... But altogether beautiful.
Thanks ALM for writing this book for people out there like me. You gave us a little bit of hope for the future and a lot of comfort. :-)
Neat concept of using BDSM to transfer pain from the alien Dom to the human sub. Unfortunately, the writing was just bad. Too much telling. Not enough world building on the alien's planet. Too much emphasis on the fuck buddy at the beginning of the book. (It was obviously a setup for the next book in the series.) Poor pacing - extremely slow in the beginning, just right in the middle, and then raced to the end.
At first I didn't like the alien guy. He was so mean but then I got him more as I went deeper into the book. Once I understood him and Hunter (both have issue) I thought they were good as a couple. I want to read all the series.
What an exciting and fun beginning to a new series. I adore sci-fi and when it's paired with really hot sex and a good love story, well, that makes everything better. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more.
I decided to read this story out of curiosity. To see if something changed in Authors writing and I got my answer, No, everything is the same as in all other released series. Same old, Bad idiocy.
