Kile Veller is now a fully certified level five hunter currently assigned to the small mining town of Coopervill... but for how long? Sins from the past have risen in the wastelands, and events that have been set in motion nearly thirty years ago threaten not only her status as a hunter, but her very life. Within one short month she finds herself wanted by the crown for murder, the tower for kidnapping and her very own guild for the disappearance and deaths of over twenty hunters. Caught up in events that should have had nothing to do with her, she must bring to light a dark secret that has plagued the throne of Aru while trying to stay one step ahead of the hunters that are quickly closing in on her... but have they underestimated her? The only question now is who is the hunter and who is the hunted?
Good plot-writing gets progressively better through the series- editing not so great...getting some beta readers or a decent editor would help
Plot is solid, characters likeable especially animals. Some editing misses, even as series gets more interesting and well developed. Good read if you overlook the misused words and occasional ill constructed sentence
A nice coming of age story that I really enjoyed reading. I usually dislike books where the antagonist are bullies. It makes me feel too much the helplessness of the character to enjoy the rest of the story. This was nicely readable, and the story really worked well, and the characters moved in a believable way.
I also liked the maturity and growth of the characters.
The storytelling is good: Different and interesting. Unfortunately, the editing is horrible. I am able to ignore those things, but it does distract when there something wrong on almost every page. Because the misspellings are so abundant, I can't recommend this for young people. They have enough challenges without having the author sabotage their language skills. Once corrected though, this series would be perfect for young people. The characters are well developed and the action is compelling and engaging.
First sentences Kile Veller sat alone, on the top of the hill, under the shade of an old oak tree as she watched the people go about their seemingly busy lives. A young girl of seventeen, long red hair that she keeps tied in a pony tail. An average girl with an average face, though some would say attractive, although she never liked her nose. It was her father’s nose and she had issues with her father. She was small, compared with most, slender, almost frail looking, but then why had she chosen to become a Hunter. The life of a Hunter was not something to be taken lightly. It was a life of solitude, a life of danger. She could handle the solitude, she liked the solitude… it was the danger that she had a problem with.
I was really looking forward to this book, I had just finished the previous book in the series and had really enjoyed it. Kile had developed into a very interesting heroine and unlike many YA Fantasy novels the story wasn’t turning into a teenage romance.
Unfortunately less than a quarter of the way into this book I realised I really didn’t like this plot, however I still enjoyed the action involving Kile and discovered that the story was still absorbing enough for me to ignore the basic plot and much to my surprise I enjoyed the whole book.
Stronger plot. Still some stupid people, but that's perhaps from Kyle's point of view. Viewpoint shifts occasionally in this book, and those characters take on more depth. Still doesn't need editing so much as proof reading, but this book is better on this front. "Dinning" made a reappearance as well as a few homonyms like "aloud" for "allowed", and some other typos and transpositions and autocorrects. Still distracting but the story is what I'm looking for this week so I'm looking past that.
This is an excellent series!!! I love the heroine, Kile!! She has a well rounded background and character development that is as puzzling to her sometimes as it is to the reader. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys action and adventure as well as fantasy! The only fault I found is the lack of a good copy editor.
