Matilda Jane Anderson drives a brand new 1917 Model T with Sweet Tilly painted on the heavy metal plate covering the radiator. Tilly doesn't care what people say. Well, until she finds herself put behind bars by a new sheriff determined to confiscate her automobile and her property.
Sheriff Rayford Sloan cleans up boom towns. He drifts in and works at getting rid of moonshiners, putting brothels out of business, generally making a place where men folks can bring their families. He drifts out when his job is done. Tilly Anderson gets under his skin from the beginning. He can't prove she's a moonshiner, but his gut feeling keeps telling him she most certainly is. He promises he'll shadow her every move and he'll own that moonshiner's car before he leaves town. That's if he ever leaves.
Hi! I'm twenty five years old and movie star gorgeous. The camera added thirty plus years and a few wrinkles. Can't trust those cameras or mirrors either. Along with bathroom scales they are notorious liars! Honestly, I am the mother of three fantastic grown children who've made me laugh and given me more story ideas than I could ever write. My husband, Charles, is my strongest supporter and my best friend. He's even willing to eat fast food and help with the laundry while I finish one more chapter! Life is good and I am blessed!
Reading has been a passion since I was five years old and figured out those were words on book pages. As soon as my chubby little fingers found they could put words on a Big Chief tablet with a fat pencil, I was on my way. Writing joined reading in my list of passions. I will read anything from the back of the Cheerio's box to Faulkner and love every bit of it. In addition to reading I enjoy cooking, my family and the ocean. I love the Florida beaches. Listening to the ocean waves puts my writing brain into high gear.
I love writing romance because it's about emotions and relationships. Human nature hasn't changed a bit since Eve coveted the fruit in the Garden of Eden. Settings change. Plots change. Names change. Times change. But love is love and men and women have been falling in and out of it forever. Romance is about emotions: love, hate, anger, laughter... all of it. If I can make you laugh until your sides ache or grab a tissue then I've touched your emotions and accomplished what every writer sets out to do.
I got serious about writing when my third child was born and had her days and nights mixed up. I had to stay up all night anyway and it was very quiet so I invested in a spiral back notebook and sharpened a few pencils. The story that emerged has never sold but it's brought in enough rejection slips to put the Redwood Forest on the endangered list. In 1997 Kensington bought two books for their Precious Gems line. Two years and six books later the line died with only four of those books seeing publication. But by then Avalon had bought a book and another, and another. Ten years later the list has grown to thirty nine. Last year Sourcebooks bought the Lucky Series which is in the bookstores now. They've also bought The Honky Tonk Series which will debut with I LOVE THIS BAR in June and will be followed by HELL, YEAH, MY GIVE A DAMN'S BUSTED, and HONKY TONK CHRISTMAS.
Folks ask me where I get my ideas. Three kids, fifteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren. Note: I was a very young grandmother! Life is a zoo around here when they all come home. In one Sunday afternoon there's enough ideas to keep me writing for years and years. Seriously, ideas pop up at the craziest times. When one sinks its roots into my mind, I have no choice but to write the story. And while I'm writing the characters peek over my shoulder and make sure I'm telling it right and not exaggerating too much. Pesky little devils, they are!
I have a wonderful agent, Erin Niumata, who continues to work magic and sell my work. I'm very lucky to have her and my editors who continue to believe in me.
This is part of a trilogy, which I didn't read in order, but thoroughly enjoyed anyway. What's not to like about a spunky woman moonshiner, carrying on the family tradition, while the new sheriff is determined to catch her. Lots of action and sizzling sparks once they kiss, while life goes on in this little town in Oklahoma.
The chase is on when the new sheriff comes to town! Miss Tilly has the best moonshine business in the county and the new sheriff has vowed to shut her down. The cat and mouse game they play is funny and suspenseful. Who catches who is a treat you don’t want to miss.
I loved this fun sweet book. Tilly is a sassy moonshiner and Ford is the new sheriff in town. Things start heating up when Ford starts trying to bring Tilly down. But first he must have proof that she is making and selling moonshine. This book is filled with laugh's, and so much fun banter!
3.75 stars from this reader. An enjoyable historical romance set in 1917 Oklahoma. In this episode of the family saga we meet Tilly who runs a covert moon-shining business handed down through the ages. The new sheriff in town's main purpose is to thwart moonshining, clean up the town, then move on to the next. He can't seem to gather any evidence to support his feeling but he'd bet that Tilly is in the business, he just can't catch her at it and she gets very creative to avoid getting caught. He gets to know her and her family in this small town full of colorful characters, taking meals with them and even attending church to keep his eye on Tilly. A predictable yet likable tale. I like author Carolyn Brown's sense of humor.
Another master piece by Carolyn brown. Keeping with the same location as others in the series, a new story about the members of the family. Don't want to let the cat out of the bag, to coin a phrase, but if you have been following her work then I say this is great.
I really enjoyed the book. The only reason for 4 not 5 stars is I didn't feel like it was true to the time period. I really enjoy the feeling of being taken back in time with Ms Brown's books. Not so much with this one. None the less it was a very enjoyable read and I am on the the next in the series.
Stubborn Moonshine Beauty and Stubborn Handsome Sheriff
Brown has successfully taken us back into a different time and place so vividly that it feels we are part of story. Her characters are rich and so real. Like always, she teaches us , too, this time about the moonshine business.
Absolutely wonderful story the characters are fabulous and believable. A new sheriff comes to town to find a bootlegger but doesn't realise how big the job is. Tilly is the bootlegger but is he up to the challenge she sets him.I highly recommend this funny romance. Fabulous
Such a nice story Carolyn Brown has spun. Tilly is a hoot, a woman who thinks she knows what her life is all about. A woman that doesn't want to be tamed or told what to do. And Ford, such an upstanding sheriff that takes the letter of the law to live by. Oh shes running moonshine and hes trying to catch her. Good story.
Such a sweet story. Ford and Tilly were wonderful characters. The town, family and friends were warm and welcoming. I am so happy that Tilly was able to profess her love and Ford was able to accept.
Oh how I hated for this book to end. It was like saying goodbye to family and dear friends forever. I will carry this series of Carolyn's books in my head heart forever. You want regret reading the entire series.
Choose the the rating. Cause Carolyn and Tully deserve it. Hated to put it down. Fun reading great characters. I would recommend all Browns books to friends!
Loved Tully and her car and the sheriff. This book will bring tons of laughter and you will shed a few tears as you go th r the car and mouse game of two people who are too proud to admit they love one another.
Cornelia is NOT spelled Cornelius! That is a guy’s name! The introduction took too long. It is good that they finally found each other. I almost didn’t finish the story Oh, well, I am glad I did.
The new sheriff and the resident moonshiner are at war, but does that animosity turn to love? Interesting storytelling about a head strong woman in the 1800's.
When Radford Sloan came to town as the new sheriff, determined to root out the moonshiners,he didn't reckon on Matilda Jane Anderson (Tilly) and the struggle begins and love blooms
Another great read from MS. Brown. Love this series and this one was extra interesting. A sheriff bent on clearing out the moon shiners and a lady moon shiner not wanting to get caught.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I like the author's writing style and the characters are full of life and well-rounded. I also love this time period and would like to read more novels in the early nineteen hundreds. I high recommend this book.
I certainly enjoy Carolyn's books; she definitely has a way with words. Her characters engaging and entertaining. Tilly speaks her mind and is certainly sassy. But Ford is man enough to deal with her.
This wasn't my favorite of the trilogy. I read it last because I kind of knew I wouldn't like it as much. I have an aversion to criminals as leading characters, although at least in this case, Tilly wasn't a thief, but it just takes me out of the story a bit.
I really enjoyed the story and the ladies. They really are a fun group. Their way of living was different, but it certainly worked for them. Now I have to see what happens to/with Cousin Tucker. Fun reading. Mary C
Oh Heavens, but these stories just keep getting better and better. Carolyn Brown again has written another truly amazing story. There is plenty to like in this story. Thank you
I loved this one, maybe because of a big black stallion and a moonshine runner! I read this series in the wrong order but loved both #3 and #2, now to go back and read the first one! Well written!
It was ok. But a huge dissapointment compared to the other two books in the series. Book 1 and Book 3 were 10 stars and rjis just kinda fell flat. There wasno mystery, no intrigue, just too predictable.
