Meeting a vampire isn’t something that happens every night, even on the New York City subway. But never in her wildest dreams did Cat ever expect to meet a vampire or survive an encounter with one. Instead, she became his confidant. Why was she so lucky?
Mit Sandru was born in the greater area of Transylvania in the last millennium; make that last century since he's not a vampire. Yet. When he was six years old, a soldier shot him at point blank range with a Kalashnikov. He survived. He outsmarted his German teacher, and survived a tornado in the middle of a wheat field. Not concurrently. When he was 18 years old, he escaped from a country resembling a concentration camp, luckily without being killed. He outran mean border patrol dogs in a foreign country, in the darkness of night, while jumping over six-foot tall stonewalls. Superman he’s not. He came to the USA in search of freedom, glory, wealth, and fame. He’s still searching for three of those. Lightning grazed him, and he caught a shark by the tail. Once. A monkey attacked him in Japan, but his daughter saved him. He avoided many rattlesnake bites, and built a house. No relation between the snakes and the house. Life eventually tamed him and he became a responsible citizen, with a wife, two daughters, dog and cat. And lately two grandsons. The taming part is questionable. He acquired an engineering and management degree and attempted to acquire other degrees in music, marketing, and IT. A certified student. He obtained many professional licenses, which he hardly used, but looked good on his wall. At 59-¾ years old he quit the corporate life and a six-figure salary. Rumor has it that he was given the golden handshake. He was finally free to pursue his dreams of writing, painting and music. During his professional life he painted hundreds of canvases, and composed dozens of tunes, while since his golden handshake he wrote 13 books. And that was in just the first half of his life. Disclaimer: Everything written here is true, and the bullets were blanks. I am Mit Sandru and I approve this unabashed bio. Want to see and read more about the second half of his life? This has the same feel as "Interview With A Vampire" where Louis is being interviewed by a reporter and they discuss his past. In the case of this book Vlad is relating his own past with Cat (who is not a reporter). Their multiple conversations include how he came to be a vampire and his life in general. The question remains throughout this story why he is he being so honest and forthcoming. What will happen to Cat after Vlad's bared his immortal non-soul.
Interesting read with a large dose of historical facts. I did have two possible thoughts in my head as to the ending ... one of which turned out to be the case. A quickie that had a dark feel but without any deep mystery elemtnt.
One night returning home from work, Cat, a young pretty woman finds herself on the subway when a strange tall pale man enters the same area of the subway she is on. At one of the next stops, three young men that look like goths or maybe devil worships enter and sit beside and in front of her, which scares her. The older man stares at them and frightens them all away and then after they leave starts talking to her.
He starts telling her his live story. He is very very old, in fact he tells her his name is Vald and Vald the impaler was his uncle, not great, great uncle but simply uncle. She vacillates between being scared and being calm and even follows him off the subway and continues the conversation in a diner before allowing him to put her in a cab and sending her home.
They meet again and her life may never be the same...in fact, it is almost certain to change totally.
I recommend this book, and the following ones, which I hope to find to be novella size and on the same on-line source where I found these. It is an interesting new version of the vampire legent and those are always fun for us vampire admirers.
A young woman meets a handsome and distinguished gentleman on the subway and is invited for a cup.of coffee and a pastry. Little does she know that this encounter will change her life forever, for she has met Vlad V, a vampire. Over the next 48 hours Cat Will be amazed By Vlad’s story as well as his reasons for sharing it with her.
This was a very intriguing short story that I could not put down. Thank you so much Mr. Sandru for the copy of your ebook! I look forward to reading more about Vlad and Cat in the next book!
I was disappointed in the book. I think it had aspects that could have made it a good read. There were just no character depths and the way the story unfolded was not entirely engrossing.
First off, this was a quick read. It's only eighty-two pages. Easy to read in about an hour or two. The synopsis is what drew me into reading the book in the first place (without knowing that it was short). However, the book wasn't as exciting as I'd thought it would be. It's okay, it kept me reading the book, but at the same time I felt that the story lacked a story. It felt like I was being told the story, rather than being shown it. The story was mostly a one sided conversation, learning about this vampire and his life. The ending was sort of sudden. To me, it is a good concept that could be fleshed out more. This may very well be the case for the subsequent books in the series and that the intention of this book is to just draw you in and want you to dig into more. At this time, however, the following books in the series are not on my to be read list.
I received this book from LibraryThing and the author in exchange for an honest review.
I really liked the writing style and general plot of the story, but I don't think it worked well as a short story. I found myself wishing it were longer so I could really dig deeper into the characters and storyline. There were also a few places where it seemed chopped, or like a quick change from one character emotion to another. Overall I would like to continue reading the series to see what happens to our heroine.
I read this book because a coworker told me about it. We both work with a man named Vlad, and he is quite a character. The book was witty and I laughed out loud at times. It was quit different than most vampire books I have read in the past but was an easy read. Cat is one of the main characters, and she was a bold, funny lady with a big surprise coming to her. I enjoyed this read.
I am a Renaissance man. In other words, I write books, fiction and nonfiction, paint in oils or illustrate on Photoshop, compose music, and write songs. I composed a tune for the book Vampire Vlad V. Listen to it on YouTube or other outlets. "Vampire Vlad V by Mit Sandru." If you listen to the music, you'll agree that it matches the book's mood. A song with lyrics is coming soon.
This book was a different kind of vampire story. It is a short read but has more books to the series. The first book is basically and introduction to Vlad's life as he is telling it to a stranger he met. I really liked the idea of how the vampire starts to age. The twist in the end made the book more fun.
Simple, but a page-turner nonetheless. The length reminds me of Chapter-a-Day on NPR. So, the story is alluded to in the publisher's blurb, think of it as a storyteller's tale of alternate history, and it's all very civilized by this point in history. Very smoothly written, with a twist, and I enjoyed it very much! The others in the series sound fascinating, and I plan to get them, too.
I enjoyed the story and the spin on the origin of Vlad. It was a short story which made it easy to read, but I wish that it had been expanded and had a smoother feel. It was an interesting and new way to approach the subject of vampires and did make me want to read more. They way the book was written do not feel smooth and felt more like a rough draft than a finished product.
I received this book through Goodreads first-reads.
A very quick, yet entertaining read. An engaging story that had me hooked from the beginning. Has good blend of historical facts and a surprising twist. I wish the story was longer. Look forward to reading other works by this author.
This is a captivating story. A very original book about a vampire telling his story. I wish it were a longer book. I am grateful that there are more books in the series. I'm hooked. And I think I just became a new fan of Mit Sandru.
