"ادّعى نيبيوس أن المصريين القدماء قد استقرّوا في إحدى الفترات في إيرلندا ..وقدّم كذلك فرضية تُرجع الثقافة البريطانية إلى أصول شرقية ، مما كان له أثر كبير في تشكيل فكرة القرون الوسطى .
لم تنظر هذه الفرضية إلى الأصول الشرقية للثقافة الغربية على أنها عامل هجين يلوث الهوية الغربية بل نظرت إلى الهوية الأوروبية الحقيقية انها امتداد طبيعي للإبداع الإنساني منذ بداياته"

أحاول قراءة كتاب في مجالات غير معتادة لي لفهم مصطلحاتها والاقتراب منها أكثر، لكن هذا الاختيار لم يكن موفقاً؛ فالكتابة الأكاديمية والعنوان الخادع أفسدا تجربة القراءة، أستطيع القول أن الكتاب يستعرض الجدل في مواضيع الفصول الثلاثة: القرون الوسطى في الأدب وأصول مستوطني بريطانيا الأوائل وربطهم بالشرق وأخيرًا استعراض القرون الوسطى ما بعد عصر النهضة وربطه بالشرق الذي " توقف في الزمن ".

كتاب جيد وكان به بعض المواضع الساحرة فيما يتعلق بالشرق والقرون الوسطى وتأثير الحضارة الإسلامية ومخلفاتها من عمارة وأدب وغيرها، ولكنه كتابه متقدم ولا يصلح للقراءة من معظم الناس.

لا اعلم هل للترجمة تأثير على الكتاب؟ ام انه هكذا ، لايعطيك فكرة محدده، ام انه للمختصين في مجال الاستشراق فقط! ربما اعود له بعد ان اقرأ اكثر في الاستشراق.
