When her late employer leaves Bromfeld Manor to her, Olivia feels secure for the first time in her life. Then Bromfeld's prodigal son returns, challenging her claim to the estate—and everything Olivia understands about family…and love.
The woman his father left his fortune to is as beautiful as she is innocent, which is why Noah Bromfeld offers to let Olivia stay while he settles his father's affairs. The closer he gets to Olivia, though, the more Noah wonders if this sweet beauty is the key to his future. But will his dark past destroy his only hope for happiness?

This book taught me that with faith and love, anything can be accomplished. It was also a good reminder not to wait too long in your life, live with no regrets and tell those in your life that you love them. It doesn't mean that you your life will be smooth sailing, but it means that you can get through to the other shore! Olivia had a rough upbringing and Noah's wasn't that much better, but together they can fix a house and fix each other, being there and supporting each other through the ups, the downs, the ex-girlfriends and nosy neighbors! I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves a clean romance by an excellent author, with just the right touch of drama!
Home at Last by Anita Higman Olivia Lamington inherited Bromfeld Manor from her former employer after he passed away. She dedicated twenty years of service to Finney. Now she finally has a home to call her own after years of abuse in foster care and living as an employee in the attic at the Manor. Now it is all in jeopardy because the prodigal son Noah Bromfeld has returned from the dead.
Noah returns home to Southeast Texas years after leaving home because of a disagreement with his father. Unaware that everyone thought he had passed away years before he takes Olivia by surprise. Sparks fly when Noah and Olivia come together as they look for answers in Finney‘s journals. Can the find lasting love or will it all be destroyed by Noah’s past. Read this great book to see who gets to keep the manor and if secrets of the past destroy them.
The author Anita Higman has done a great job with Home at Last. I loved the innocence of Olivia’s character. You will find this book to display a strong faith, romance and a little mystery. I give 5 stars to Home at Last, it is well written with characters that are enthusiastic, inspiring and full of life. I highly recommend this book to anyone searching for a compelling Christian book that is entertaining and gives hope to the readers with stories of faith. I want to thank the author Anita Higman and publisher for providing me with this book in exchange for my honest review.
Every time I pick up one of Anita Higman's books I just know I am going to love it, and once again Anita has written a wonderful book that did not disappoint me! From the very first page of Home at Last you just know something exciting is about to happen. Olivia Lamington has had a difficult childhood: she is taken in as a foster child by a woman who doesn't love her, and when she turns 18 years old she is finally able to escape when she answers an ad to become a caregiver, and companion for a lonely old man named Finney who she serves wholeheartedly for 20 years! Suddenly, and without warning his son Noah Bromfeld arrives on the scene - a son who has supposedly been dead for the past 10 years! Olivia's simple life at Bromfeld Manor must come to an end, or so she thinks! She is not prepared for the special way Noah looks at her or how he makes her feel when she is around him. He has never met anyone as kind-hearted as Olivia, but will they be able to hold on to each other when secrets from the past emerge that could destroy everything between them?
Thank You Anita Higman for providing this book free of charge in exchange for an honest review.
Anita’s latest with Heartsong takes the reader on a roller coaster ride of emotions as Olivia and Noah discover that everything they believed may be tumbling down around them.
Olivia set aside her own goals and dreams to care for her employer for more than twenty years. Noah believed his mother and resented his father. Two people caught in a web of deceit struggle to regain trust. Only God can lead them to the truth.
Anita delivers a tender story of love even as Olivia’s innocence and Noah’s worldliness clash. Through emotion and searching, the story carries the reader through the ups and downs of discovery and acceptance. The beautiful, but rundown old house where Noah grew up and Olivia’s lived for more than twenty years is a fascinating backdrop. I love when a home or town act as another character in a story. Anita’s writing, as usual, paints a beautiful picture of life and the abundant love God has for His people. This quick read will stick with you as you contemplate how trust in God can change your life.
I loved this book, just proves how the Lord can turn things around and turn something hurtful, heartache, pain, loss, deception, etc. into something beautiful and wonderful and use it to bring two people together, to allow them to be used as His instruments to aid in the other's healing.
Anita Higman has written a deep and intense story about a woman who has had so little through life and about a "son of the Manor" who returns and seeks to claim the only home Olivia truly knows as her's. Ms. Higman uses phrasing and words to paint beautiful and emotional pictures in the mind. Journey with Olivia and Noah as they learn to adapt, trust, forgive, and love.
Time and time again, a moment of joy would be subdued by a snake in the woodpile. And, in life, there always seemed to be a serpent waiting patiently in the wings. (pg. 47)
Olivia Lamington wiggled the key into the lock of the manor's heavy door, but it didn't fit quite right - just as her own irregular life had never slipped easily into this world. (pg. 1)
..... and Olivia's panicked voice above him. Then life faded into blackness. (pg. 175)
Beautifully written, delightfully sweet, frustratingly tense, and lovingly romantic. The only down side of Home at Last is that it is published in budget format by Harlequin Love Inspired publishers. It deserves larger, "higher-on-the-shelf" publication and recognition.

Home at Last by Anita Higman is a sweet, refreshing read. I enjoyed it, especially, since it was written from the viewpoint of Olivia, a young woman who only seems to see the good in people. This is not, however, because she hasn’t seen the worst of human nature. It is because she has chosen to see the best in those she calls friend.
Olivia is a very special person, and Noah notices that almost immediately. Olivia is inexplicably drawn to Noah, who appears to be somewhat of a scalawag. As the two of them work out their relationship, they must overcome some major obstacles. Secrets come to light which cause Olivia to question her judgment. Will she find that her trust has been misplaced?
This is a quick and easy read, but one that gives the reader much to ponder concerning life and relationships with others. If you enjoy a short romance with depth and strong characters, you will love this story.

Home at Last was a sweet, short read... that ended up not as sweet as I expected. When I have purchased the Heartsong Presents books before, they are normally what I like to call eye-candy: easy on the mind, sweet little one-nighters. Home at Last was not completely like that. Yes, it was sweet and romantic, BUT there was enough suspense and humanity to make it interesting and not just some sappy love story that leaves you with warm fuzzies or a toothache.
Home at Last deals with many different relationships-- father/son; foster parent/child; boyfriend/girlfriend. It also touches on abuse, mental illness, forgiveness, anger and love. It reminds us that only through the grace of God can we forgive and grow in our own lives.

Home at Last ( Heartsong Presents ) By: Anita Higman Anita Higman has done it again. I love reading her books they are so good and when you get started you don't want to put it down. Home at Last is about love, faith, forgiveness and also a love story. Olivia Lamington never had a real home or family growing up. She was an orphan and went out on her own at the age of eighteen. She answered an ad from Finney Bromfield's Manor and finds her first job. Twenty years passed and her late employer leaves Bromfield Manor and all of its processions to her. It had been three months and Olivia was finally feeling secure with her life. That was until Noah Bromfield returned home after twenty years. He left after his mother's death and a disagreement with his father. Is Noah really Finney's son? He was suppose to be dead. Olivia and Noah both have a lot of things to work out. There is also a noisy neighbor and an x-girlfriend that they have to deal with. Will Olivia listen to the x-girlfriend or to Noah that she has come to care about? I really loved this story and you will too. I was given a copy of this book by the author for my honest review and I have given it.
Home At Last is wonderful Gothic-style romance. It comes complete with a manor house and caretaker's cottage, family secrets, betrayals, a lonely woman, a man with a dark past, and even a dog that takes a little time to warm up to strangers.
Anyone that has ever read a Gothic novel will understand what I mean when I say that the over-the-top Gothicness is delightfully balanced with touches of humor. Anita Higman has managed to combine wisps of Mary Stewart's 1960's novels with light romance and lessons of confronting one's past with forgiveness.
This little book is a fast read. I was couldn't put it down after I really got started, and wound up finishing it in a couple of hours total. I thoroughly enjoyed Home At Last and have a suspicion that it will be one of those books I read more than once. It was just what I needed to wind down and relax after a bit of a long day.
This book is a must-read for any Anita Higman fan.
(I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are entirely my own.)
Anita Higman brings us another sweet story of romance. Olivia and Noah are thrown together in a unexpected situation and attempt to discover if they are meant to be together. Issues of trust, and honesty come into play and it isn't until nearly the end of the book that you discover how their lives will play out. The characters are charming. Anita Higman as always entertains the reader with fresh figurative language that is her signature style. Home at Last provides readers with a sweet escape for a few hours.

Once again Anita Higman pulls readers in with an engaging story, rich characters, and interesting dialogue. Noah and Olivia carry wounds from painful pasts. Anita Higman weaves their lives together in such a way that the reader isn't quite sure how this can all turn out happily. It is this pulling and tugging that keeps the reader entertained throughout.
This book is a quick read and the feel of it differs a bit from the other two books that I have read from Anita Higman. I read another reviewer compared it to a bit of a gothic feel and I think I have to agree with that. There is a lot of darkness for these characters to overcome from their pasts and missed opportunities to really live their lives.
However, like Anita's other books, it is well-written and interesting. I was very curious about so many things that she slowly revealed throughout the story. I did enjoy that the author could take all of these dark events, yet still create characters with hope for the future and craft a happily-ever-after scenario for them that is believable.
I received a complimentary copy of Home at Last from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I just love Anita's books. All her books are well written. Olivia has come back to her inheritance Bromfeld Manor. Left to her by Finney Bromfeld. Also Noah Bromfeld has also come back to make up with his father. Problem being his father has thought he is dead and left everything to her What can now happen? Who is the rightful owner? Can they let god work in their lives to heal them. If you love Anita Higman's books you will also love this one. It is one you start you won't put it down. Look forward to next book.
Home At Last full of intrigue, mystery, emotion, love and forgiveness. I thought this quick read was a great way to show that with faith, God has the power of healing. I recommend this book. It may be a short read, but the message will stay with you much much longer.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story! Beyond a cherishing relationship, Home at Last brings to the forefront trust in God and His provision for us as we follow Him in our daily lives. Olivia is delightful! Willing to confront her past to free her future, she is open and considerate, a true friend.
Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot wash it away. --Song of Solomon 8:7
Home at Last
Noah Bromfeld has returned home with hopes of making amends with his father. He finds his father is not there, but Olivia Lamington is. Unknown to him, Finney Bromfeld has passed away and left Bromfeld Manor to Olivia, his caregiver for the past twenty years. Noah, presumed dead by his father, has left his entire estate to her.
Olivia, not wanting to retain her inheritance since Noah is the rightful heir, agrees to remain to help Noah fix up the house and the caretaker's stone cottage in the woods on the large estate. Their friendship grows as they share their childhoods memories. Staying at the cottage, Noah checks out the nearby town of Gardenia to determine if there is enough need for a landscaping business he would like to pursue. In the meantime, Olivia has a home at the manor for as long as she chooses. Mops, the manor dog, agrees having her to guard.
Visitors come to the manor and Olivia is so gracious. This has been home to her for so many years and she is welcoming in her kind demeanor. Noah finds her to be open and, in turn, is able to be open with her in communication. Strength for each other, their true selves are able to blossom.
A very good read and you come away with deeper meaning than a quick read. Trust is paramount. One comment I really liked that Olivia voiced to herself was the reminder that God was still in control of their destinies, not the actions of another person. So good and true; a future and a hope.

This was such a sweet story - I was drawn right in and couldn't wait to find out what would happen next. I loved it that two people were thrown together in a situation and slowly begin to learn more about each other. There were a few pleasant surprises and it is definitely a favorite story that I will pick up and read again! Anita is wonderful and she really lets you get to know the characters so well - such a sweet story of finding love when you least expect it.
A sweet book about 2 people who help each other face their individual pasts, and how they find love in the process. Texas romantics beware: you will truly enjoy this heartwarming story!
Sweet novella. While I enjoyed the story and the characters, I did feel that it all came together too easily. There were a couple of places where you felt a sense of foreboding, but all in all, this was a Pollyanna kind of book. The main characters never got truly upset; they always were understanding, and everything always worked out. This could have been a good full length novel had the author fleshed out the characters a little more. I was left pondering what happened to one character to make him seem good to one person and bad to another. That wasn't ever fully explained. Three stars
Home at Last reminded me of dessert – short, sweet and meant to be enjoyed in one sitting. Honestly, I don’t often read books that belong in a “line” of books, for lack of a better word, so I wasn’t sure how I would like this one; however, I’ve enjoyed both of Anita Higman’s books that I’ve read previously, so I’m glad that I gave this one a chance.
The characters were well-developed for such a short novel. Despite being a grown woman, Olivia Lamington has led a sheltered life as an employee of Finney Bromfeld at Bromfeld Manor. An after-effect of growing up with a neglectful foster mother, Olivia put her time and energy into her work, and given the Finney treated her more like a daughter, this wasn’t a hardship for her. This gave her a very innocent yet cautious nature.
Mr. Bromfeld’s son, Noah, spent the majority of his adult life away from home due to a broken relationship with his father and is surprised yet not completely shocked to learn that his father passed away upon returning; however, he is surprised that his father believed him to be dead and had given his inheritance to Olivia.
This is definitely a love story through and through; the plot centers on their inner growth as well as past mistakes that threaten to keep them apart. Higman writes with a certain charm that I’ve really come to enjoy and expect from her stories. They are feel-good, but with a realistic touch. I loved the setting of this one; I could really picture the big country manor house, with the small cottage in the woods. It made the perfect backdrop for the story.
Recommended, especially if you’re looking for a sweet, modern-day, happily-ever-after story.
I'm not a fan of novellas, but this book was long enough to be a good story....and it was....until the end. In fact I was really enjoying it until then. I'm not sure if the author needed to speed things up hurried the ending along or what, but it just seemed so rushed. One moment a woman is committing suicide and the next page she's on her meds and analyzed the whole thing, with apologies for her behavior, and for ruining everything for everyone. It was a huge stretch. Another huge stretch is two people about 40, having never been married and fell in love and contemplating marriage in a matter of days. But like I said, until end it wasn't half bad.
I really liked the references to each opportunity for God's love and care in each of the characters lives. Forgiveness is so important. Love and affection is do important. Reading about lack of love and warmth in a child's life being so damaging and hurtful and then healing from that pain is so real and precious. All of this is found in this lovely heartwarming story.
This is the first book I have read by this author. I enjoyed the story and the characters were very interesting. I Enjoyed it enough that I bought another of her books. I would love to walk into an old that was from a time long past.
Olivia had been working for an elderly man, but with his passing her let her a wonderful gift. Olivia would soon have a surprise that would turn her world upside down. Would everything be okay for Olivia? Or would she lose the only home she'd come to love.
This was an unusual book. I thought it started off really odd and almost didn't continue but I'm glad I did because it turned out to be a good story. Very unusual with unexpected twists and turns
Ugh. I never really got into this book and just kept reading it because it wasn't very long and I didn't want to not finish a book. But, the end, oh it just kept getting worse and worse. Save yourself a few hours and don't start this book.
I wish the story was longer and more in depth. Intriguing story line with an great setting. Healing through forgiveness is can be hard to do but this story was written with such compassion that it is a good reminder to always try forgiveness.
