44 books37 followersThe nuns in my Catholic elementary school always said that each of us has a gift, a reason we were put here on earth. Our job is to discover what that purpose is. Well, I knew early on that I was meant to be a writer. Who else would spend her childhood grinding sparkling rocks into fairy dust and convince her friends it was real? Or daydream her way through elementary school, spend high school reading philosophy and playing the bagpipes, and then head off to Spain during college to live the writer's life?
After four years in Madrid I straggled back home, broke but fluent in Spanish, and discovered that I'd acquired a marketable skill. So instead of writing, I began teaching Spanish. I also married a Coast Guard Officer and followed him around the country as he rescued ships and saved lives.
The years passed. We had two sons. I earned my master's degree and continued teaching, which I really enjoyed. We met interesting people and acquired a quirky dog.
But the desire to write kept lurking in my mind. That was my dream, what I knew I'd been destined to do -- and yet, I had never done it. Then one day I made a decision. If I wanted to become a published author, I had to stop fantasizing about writing and actually do it.
So I began my first book –- and discovered that writing a saleable novel was much harder than I'd dreamed. Fortunately, I inherited a healthy dose of Irish stubbornness, a strong mid-western work ethic and a love of challenges that helped me persevere.
So here I am at last, just as the nuns instructed and right where I hoped I would be –- writing stories about characters struggling along their own paths of self-discovery. I hope you enjoy their journey home.

SEDUCED BY HIS TARGET has one perilously dangerous predicament after another, and every unexpected situation that crops up is packed with lots of emotion. The heroine has been in hiding for much of her life, but it finally looks as though her time of being undetected is over. Only one man seems to want her kept safe, yet her death will only be hastened if she is wrong about his intentions. Gail Barrett concludes her Buried Secrets trilogy with an intensely suspenseful novel, where feelings are genuine and action is realistic.
She had hoped changing her name to Nadine Seymour would keep ruthless family members from ever finding her. Nadira al Kahtani refused to follow the archaic customs of her homeland, and she has made a good life for herself with the aid of two other women. Becoming a plastic surgeon lets her bring comfort to those who have suffered some type of physical abuse or accidental trauma, and her latest charitable endeavor has taken Nadine to Peru where many need her assistance. On a stormy night, she is taken from her camp by several men whom she fears might perchance have ties to her family.
One of her captors is Rasheed Daver, a man who initially appears just as cruel as the others. However, the CIA agent is covertly working with the terrorists, a group who is believed to be planning some type of attack. Rasheed has a personal reason for wanting anyone associated with the radicals to pay for their previous wrongdoings, and he currently needs more information to stop whatever conspiracy they want to carry out. His mission means everything to him and he cannot risk exposure, yet having Nadine as their captive brings out his protective side, a part of him thought lost forever.
The action is almost nonstop in SEDUCED BY HIS TARGET, as no one is willing to give up on their goals. Situations are frequently dangerous, where threats are very real and often could result in deadly consequences. There are definitely a few pulse-pounding incidents, as what will be the eventual outcome is never decided until after many dramatic seconds. I became totally caught up in what was going to happen to Rasheed and Nadine, as both are very likable and tried to do the right thing, even when it put their own lives in jeopardy. Some of the circumstances that arise are cleverly executed, and one in particular left me speechless because of its possibility.
Although Rasheed and Nadine do not trust the other at first, a common objective gradually makes them closer as time passes. This causes their growing sexual awareness to be even more potent and difficult to deny. When they can steal an intimate moment for themselves, their desire is expressed with such heartfelt feelings. The past of these two greatly influences their behavior at times, and working out any conflicts is often a huge challenge for this pair. The Buried Secrets trilogy had numerous unanticipated turns throughout the three books, and what ultimately occurred in the lives of each couple was always satisfying. SEDUCED BY HIS TARGET is a constantly intriguing story, and Gail Barrett doubles the enjoyment with plenty of emotional clashes.

Really good book. After escaping from her abusive home and living on the streets for awhile, Nadine went on to become a plastic surgeon. She specializes in helping battered women and children. When the book starts she is on a medical mission in Peru. There she is kidnapped by terrorists who are working for her father and brother. One of those terrorists is Rasheed, who is actually an undercover CIA agent. Rasheed is horrified by what Nadine expects to happen to her and tries to figure out how to save her without jeopardizing his mission.
Nadine was an incredibly strong woman. Her early life had created a sense of independence and ability to take care of herself. When she was taken she fought to escape, and kept her head when initially escape was impossible. She was also determined to save the other doctor who was taken at the same time. When Rasheed tells her who he is and why he's there, Nadine makes the decision to help him.
Rasheed had taken on this mission as a way to avenge his wife. He carries a great deal of guilt because he feels that she was killed because of what he was investigating at the time. The thought of another woman being in danger creates another layer of worry for him. Rasheed also cannot deny his growing attraction for Nadine. Her beauty and bravery have worked their way through the numbness he has felt since his wife's death. He tries to deny his feelings because he feels that the things he has had to do make it impossible to have a future with her.
The intensity of the emotion that grows between them matches the intensity of the danger they are in. Both know that they could be killed at any time, which makes their stolen moments even more potent. As much as they come to care for each other, both have heavy emotional baggage that needs to be dealt with before they can find a life together.
The action and suspense are nearly nonstop. All of the players are intent on their goals which creates some conflict between Nadine and Rasheed, as well as among the other characters. I was completely caught up in what was happening and found much of it felt very believable. The final confrontation was complicated and I was anxious to see how it would work out. The anticipation was worth every minute.
I loved the epilogue as the three couples got together to celebrate the New Year and new beginnings.

Nadine/ Nadira is a plastic surgeon who's working with Medical Help International, a medical aid organization. While on a trip in Peru, she's kidnapped by Rasheed who is an under cover CIA agent that's infiltrated a terrorist organization funded by her father, a powerful US political ally. The two are distrustful of each other but soon come come to share confidences and an attraction that they can't deny. And both are very determined for their own reasons to stop Nadine's evil brother and father from going through with their terrorist plot.
It was a bit slow moving in the beginning but it got more interesting later on. I liked the chemistry between Rasheed and Nadira, but would've liked more of their romance. Another great Gail Barrett book. She's becoming one of my favourite romantic suspense authors!

I usually am not drawn to heroines with such a bleak, abusive background as the three in this series, but I really enjoyed each of the books. Gail Barrett does a fantastic job with edge-of-your seat suspense. Her heroines not only survived horrible childhoods but became strong, complete, successful women before they met their respective heroes.

I was glad to see it all come together in the end. I still think the first book is my favorite but I love how different each story is.
