Abraham Zapruder filmed the only footage of President Kennedys assassination. In his film, a woman in a red raincoat can be seen. She is Jean Hill, the last dissenting witness.
Bill Sloan is a respected military historian, former newspaper reporter/editor and author of more than a dozen books, including Brotherhood of Heroes: The Ultimate Battle. He lives in Dallas, Texas
A most enjoyable and inspiring read. Quite unique among the books written about the JFK assassination. As with any historical topic, primary source material is a valuable asset. Jean Hill could not be a better witness to the Dealey Plaza murder. Standing on the south side of Elm Street, (where people were not being allowed to go!) with her friend Mary Moorman she was one of the closest to JFK, almost opposite to Zapruder, and certainly closer than the Secret Service! 'JFK-The Last Dissenting Witness', published in 1992 and co-written with Bill Sloan reveals the full horror of Dallas and it's aftermath. Jean dashed up the grassy knoll in chase of the assassin behind the picket fence, to be frog-marched away and had Moorman's picture confiscated, followed by the aggressive grilling from the 'feds'. All this was depicted in Oliver Stone's 'JFK'. What followed can only be described as a living nightmare. The pressure from Secret Service and FBI agents, the altered statements, her divorce, the continuous FBI presence outside her house and stalking her movements, the threatening anonymous phone calls, the burglary and theft of her camera equipment, the car accidents, the attempt to injure her young son, her isolation and depression, all leading to a suicide attempt. Added to the mix is a young woman, lone parent, struggling to keep her family and her employment together, because she did not conform to the official whitewash of the 'lone nut' scenario. (If the government were so convinced with the disgruntled left wing shooter, where was the threat to national security?) Jean Hill was a fine American patriot, her book is a credit to her and her family. She lived in this Orwellian hell for thirty years, remained constant and true to her beliefs and still lived to enter the broad sunlit uplands. She was a very important advisor to Jim Marrs and to Oliver Stone when he filmed in Big D. It only remains for the American government to display the very same bravery and patriotism shown by Hill and demolish the cover-up of 63's coup d'etat.
My copy is signed by Jean Hill - I had the privilege of spending the day with her and going to Dealey Plaza where she showed us where she was standing, where she saw the man with the gun, and told us all manner of things that happened to her to get her not to talk about what she saw. Very eye-opening.
Factual first-hand account of a JFK assination witness. She was almost killed (as were many other first-hand witnesses). Scary stuff. Jean Hill, the author, autographed my copy.
This work was not about sorting out conspiracies of the JFK assassination. This was a book about Jean Hill, what she witnessed during the event and the treatment she received for trying to bring truth to light. I am glad that in the end through numerous contacts such as Jim Marrs and Penn Jones and her involvement with the JFK movie, that she found the support and recognition for speaking the truth. Amazing book. Read it during an extended period of time over a day. Compelling book.
This was an outstanding book! I had no idea it had been written so many years ago. But an absolute gem. I know some people have concerns about Jean Hill's credibility, but I found it to be very credible based on the author's presentation. As with all of the witnesses to the assassination, if they did not follow the party line - Oswald alone, 3 shots, etc - then they were discredited. Many of the facts presented in the book were consistent with how others were treated, how the Warren Commission presented the "testimony" of the witnesses, and how anyone who challenged the "official report" was dismissed. I believe Jean Hill over Mary Moorman and the events that unfolded immediately after the shots were fired. The book provides a lot of details of Jean Hill's life and it is all very fascinating and informative. The Warren Commission did a great job of minimizing her observations and effectively reducing them to footnotes. This is a must read for anyone studying the JFK assassination and wanting to hear first-hand from a reliable source and witness at the scene.
I was a teenager when JFK was assassinated in nearby Dallas and have been interested since then. I’ve read an extensive amounts of books and published on the event, including the falsehood filled Warren Commission Report which should be classified as nearly total fiction. JFK The Last Dissenting Witness is by far one of the best books related to this horrific event that most Americans have lied to about since it happened. If you only read one book concerning the JFK Assassination, I recommend it be this one.
Jean Hill's firsthand account of JFK's assassination (across from the Grassy Knoll) in Dealey Plaza is a unique/riveting read. There have been countless books written about November 22nd, 1963 but I haven't read a book with this perspective of what took place that day. (from Jean's view) The way Jean's life was impacted for years after was incredibly interesting.
Well this is the Last Bill Sloan Book in my Local Library and it held my attention from front to back. No it did not change any of my personal beliefs, nor have me join a group. Well written fast paced etc. The next question is Interlibrary Loan or done with Mr. Sloan?
This is the story of a woman who was at Dealy plaza on the day Kennedy was assassinated. She has a cop friend who keeps her safe after the assassination and ends up being involved with the making of the Oliver Stone movie JFK.
Interesting if you are interested in the Kennedy assassination.
Worth reading as a first person source whose brief glimpse of a Kennedy dog turned out to be a glove puppet - but she was not inventing fiction - her brief glimpse saw a white fluffy object.
Great account of Jean Hill who knew what she saw, and regardless of people who tried to change her mind, her story stayed the same.. that there was more than 1 shooter that day in Dealey Plaza
