Rush hour. A packed tube station. A body on the tracks. Looks like accident or suicide. Because who would want to kill a man who was already dying? Florence Weaver is making a career for herself as an influencer when her father's death throws everything into disarray. But is Florence just a bereaved daughter or is she involved in some way? When a second body is found, Detective Inspector Miranda Murphy will have to penetrate the often-murky world of social media to find out.
Eva Maclean read her first Agatha Christie (Death in the Clouds) at age ten and has been obsessed with detective fiction and writing ever since. After a past life as an accountant, she is finally doing what she wanted to do in the first place.
Eva lives in London with her husband and two cats, her children having grown up and made good their escape.
Her favourite living authors are Kate Atkinson, Donna Leon and Mick Herron. The dead are too many to count.
Very enjoyable plodding detective investigation, step by step, not boring. Surprise ending. There was confusion, however, with both a few men and women all having names starting with the letter "A" -- I had to keep going back to see who was who. And near the end a person named Roger was called James, so that was confusing. Other than that, well edited and well-paced.
Only three stars this time, rather than the four I gave the first book in the series. Nothing to do with the plot or the characterisation, just that I got both irritated and a bit confused by some of the avoidable errors. The names of the characters weren't always consistent. On occasions Susannah became Stephanie, Roger Sissons became James Sissons and even Miranda was referred to as Melinda. Needs sorting out, then a definite four stars!
I quite enjoyed this book but there were a few inconsistencies that didn't work. The main one being that in 2022 Jake was 19. On holiday in 2012 his parents allowed him to hire a moped and he was hit by a lorry.. but he should only have been 9 at the time. Roger Sissons turned into James Sissons then back to Roger Sissons. The story was good but this things spoilt it for me.
Enjoyed Both of her books Black grapes and dead cool Loved the characters easy to read I couldn't figure out who did what and that's what I like! I love the 2 main characters
Really enjoyed this book. Love the cynical but compassionate Murphy and her sidekick. Lots of scope for this series to develop and I'm looking forward to book 3
I have, read both books and am loving this sassy copper. Story lines are interesting and involved leading to surprise endings. I hope there are more to come. Soon please !
