"Kiki captures the heat of the streets." —Wahida Clark
Kiki Swinson was born and raised in Portsmouth, Virginia. She discovered her flair for writing after completing her first novel, Mad Shambles, while serving a five-year sentence at a federal prison. After being released in December 1996, Kiki later went on to self-publish Mad Shambles. Her passion for writing didn't stop there. Writing feverishly into the wee hours of the night, she completed her second novel, Wifey, which was published by Melodrama Publishing. After the success of Wifey, Kiki penned the sequels I'm Still Wifey and Life After Wifey, as well as The Candy Shop and A Sticky Situation.
I didn't like the way this book ended would've liked to know more about faith's life and if she finally gets clean enough to at least have some type of relationship with her daughter!
I did not like still Candy Shopping. It was horrible. It did not get any better as I hope. But I loved Ameelaka McCall's A Sucker for Candy, the other short story in this book. She had me locked in from page one when Celeste was hollering at Drake about how he no good. B/c I liked this story had to give the book some stars. All in all the candy shop series is not my favorite Kiki Swinson series.
Still candy shopping is the sequel to Kiki Swensons candy shop. In The candy shop we met and traveled the road of addition with The ones stunning Faith Simmons. She has it all… a best friend who she hired as her secretary, The American dream! Intelligent happily married mother and successful principle of an exclusive private school, A nice car and a beautiful home in a gated community. Her desire for candy unfortunately result in her losing all of the above including her best friend. In still candy shopping Faith Simmons besides after 3+ years of chasing the monkey on her back it is time to go into rehab. After a very short time in rehab where she of course continues her destructive behavior by making questionable choices, she receives a reality check during her phone call to her loved ones. Devastated and angry and heartbroken she feels getting clean is pointless Instead of relying on the support of the rehab staff and clients she does what she always does Faith runs away. She decide she can’t wait to return to her old ways. One bad decision after another finds her in the clutches where can only be described as a mentally deranged maniac. She is essentially held hostage and forced to work the streets as a sex worker. Without giving away any more of the plot I will say this. I was not impressed. For starters faith is 35 years old highly educated and should know better. I understand that while in the clutches of the disease addiction rational people will do irrational things. But come on. How many times do you have to get your ass wort have your life-threatening see your life pass before your very eyes before you get it? And I don’t want to sound off his son sanctimonious a whole. I’m just saying at what point do you finally just roll the hell up? You haven’t seen your daughter… in over three years and you question why life has moved on without you? Sweetie you are not the center of the universe! The other issue I had with this book was I was not expecting this to be a short story. I thought the ending is rough and rush. I wanted to know face Ashley complete rehab. I want to know the ending to the story because I had so many unanswered questions. That’s the reason for my three star rating. Keke Swenson Castle author that I really enjoy. If I hear she has a book without even reading the synopsis I purchase and get ready for all the drama- action and straightforward language. This book did not lead any of that but in my humble opinion and of course I’ve never been published I think she could have done better. Kiki solution if you are reading this please complete Faith Simmons story I am who are you
Good book! At first I got upset at how the book just changed from one story to the other but to be honest I definitely like the second part better it was very interesting, it kept me reading it all night. I don't typically read a full book in one night(even though it was only half of the book) but this part of the story "A Sucker For Candy" just had me into it and I couldn't wait the next day to find out what happened next. But The Candy Shop part 2 was upsetting, Faith was motivated and on track to get her life back together but she totally messed it up and went back to her old lifestyle. The ending of this part of the book was extremely horrible. It really didn't even have an ending like the story just stopped out of nowhere and started on a new story. I would have liked a more detailed ending that would leave me thinking.
(FROM JACKET)After being on the streets for a little over two years, Faith Simmons decides to get her life back on track by admitting herself into a drug rehab. In the beginning Faith is excited about her road to recovery until she makes a call to her ex-husband. The news that he breaks to her is devastating and causes her to relapse. Within a blink of an eye she is back on the streets and has drifted into a whole new world of chaos. With so many odds stacked against her, Faith will find it very difficult to come out of this nightmare alive.
This book was okay I really didn't like the way it ended, but the story A Sucker For Candy by Amaleka McCall was really good but this was not Kiki Swinson's best work to me it seemed a little rushed.
