To give is a virtue. But to give your very self, the ultimate bequest. Offered in love, it can be wondrous. Offered in desperation, it can be deadly.
In Book Two of this three-part epic, young and tempting Kate Simmons at last seemed to have reached a safe haven of happiness when she moved in with Neil, ambitious and persevering, both in his legal practice and his love life. Taking great care to protect his trophy and the surprise he had in mind for Kate, Neil hired security to accompany his soon-to-be fiancée on a scavenger hunt of a lifetime. As Book Three continues their saga, it is life itself that is in the balance when Kate becomes the hunted as the jilted Roger snatches his prey.
The obsessed minds of Neil and Roger now take aim squarely at each other — with a bare and exposed Kate directly in the crossfire. Knowing her very life will be the winner’s spoil, Kate stares agony in its ghastly face as it approaches for the death dance.
There is no time, no place, no safety in a war of fixation. A war in which the winner will be either the last one standing, or the last one to die.
When I began my journey of becoming an author, I had no idea all the blessings that would be bestowed upon me. First, I have had the pleasure of meeting so many readers at signings and they have overwhelmed my heart with how much they love my books. Their words of affirmation have given me pure joy and they are the reason I write. To stare my stories with them is to give them a glimpse into my heart. I've also been tremendously blessed with bloggers who have tirelessly shared my stories, made teasers for me, promoted me, and just downright made me feel so welcome in the Facebook community.
I didn't share this initially, but the Killer Next Door series is about my own life experience living next door to a convicted serial killer. The story has the facts of my interactions with him mixed in with fiction that I created to give it drama. The main character Kate is actually based on me. Of course, much of the story has my run away imagination mixed in as well. And sadly, the romance part is all made up!! I didn't have a boyfriend at the time I lived next door to a killer. I did however know one of his victims and he was very interested in "getting to know me better." I know...yikes!
I wrote Beholden to You as a spin-off of the series. It's my favorite book as I love Natalie and Mac's love affair. It also has some thrill to it as I enjoy adding in twists and turns to make the pages fly.
I am about to release my fifth book, Forgotten by You, another spin-off, but can be read as a stand alone. Mitch and Charlie's story will have you rooting for a happy ending and I keep the twists coming.
Reading has been a passion of mine my entire life. I love it so that I dedicated my life to educating children. As a teacher, I have had the profound pleasure of teaching children to read and explore their imaginations through a good book. Nothing is better than watching a child read and find joy from the story. My first graders are a gift that keep on giving every day. Being a teacher is hard work, but the rewards far outweigh the sacrifices.
I have several that I want to turn into books. Writing has become a passion that I dearly love. In my free time, I enjoy reading (of course), writing, movies, working out, and relaxing with my my handsome husband in Southern California. We enjoy the relaxed lifestyle that California provides. We have two beautiful dogs and no children.
Thank you Carlie Sexton for give us a third and final Book in The Killer Next Door series at least in Kate and Neil's Story.. really looking forward to the other books you are writing.
Kate has been kidnapped by Roger at the end of the second book Taken by you. This book picks up right where that one stops. Kate knows that her life maybe over any moment, and if she wants to live and have the life she is supposed to have with Neil that she is going to have to act like Roger is the love of her life and not Neil.
Neil knows that something bad has happened when he can't reach any one.. he knows that Roger has made his move. he knows that Kate may never know how much he had planned for them. But he does know that he is going to save his girl.
I really enjoyed this final book of Kate and Neil's Story and I can't wait for more from Carlie.
I was given this book by Carlie Sexton for an honest review and will come back to add more to my review once the book has been released!
THANK GOODNESS! We finally get to know what will happen after that killer cliff hanger in Part 2!!! Hopefully you have all read Part 2 and know that while Kate is on her romantic scavenger hunt from Neil, she is kidnapped by Roger! And that is where Given To You picks up…
Kate knows that the only way she is going to survive is by paying attention to Roger and doing everything she can to distract him from what he ultimately wants… HER! She has him talking about his childhood, making sure his son is taking care of, and just about anything to delay him from his goal! The glimpse you get about his childhood makes you completely understand just how INSANE he really is and why. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time begging for something to distract him….
I am dying for you all to know how it ends, but I don't want to give too much away and ruin it for you! But I will say if you are hoping there is more of the romantic side of Neil in this book… you will get your wish! I loved him and how he was with Kate! "Oh, baby,"… "you've had my heart from the moment we met. No one else in the world would do after that." The only thing that disappointed me a little bit was the abrupt ending. I wanted more!!! Everything seemed very condensed and hurried, but the overall story is GREAT! I would definitely say that this series is worth your time if you love a thrilling book that keeps you on your toes but also has a great love story inside!!! Can't wait for more from this debut Author!
*This is not a stand alone book. It is the third book in the Killer Next Door Series. If you haven't read the previous book then I would stop here. My review will contain major spoilers*
What an intense book. I was pretty much captivated by this story. Carlie really gets to it with this one. Neil, Kate, and Roger are at the forefront. Their is no escaping the drama filled ride these characters will take you on. We finally see what the three of these characters will do for the one they love.
This book starts off exactly where Taken By You left off. Roger has surprised Kate and has drugged her body guard. All that work keeping her safe is blown to bits. She is the happiest she has ever been. Then boom walks in Roger. He is seriously sickly obsessed with her. She has no other option but to do what he tells her to. She is trying to make it out of this situation alive. Every minute that passes is another minute that she fears that she won't be saved. When Neil realizes something may have happened to her and his worst fear may come to light. he isn't ready to lose the women he loves. The one he intends to spend the rest of his life with. He is on a mission to find her before it's too late. Will Neil be able to get to her in time before Roger takes from him everything he has dreamed of?
One word that I am thinking is wow. Kate is in real trouble here. Neil is scared to death. Roger is just plain crazy. The scariest part is when we learn what happened to Roger as a child. It makes you understand a little why he thinks the way he does. He seems perfectly normal on the outside, but on the inside his head is twisted. He has fixated on Kate and literally stopped anyone that may get in his way. I am scared of this man. I would not want to cross paths with him especially in a dark alley. Yes he will give you shivers down your spine in this book. Poor Kate this women has finally seen the light at the end of the tunnel. She is ready to be happy and live a life she has always dreamed of. Neil has become the one man she can trust, one she knows will never hurt or betray her. I love that she has everything figured out. She finally has started moving forward and all the circumstances leading up to this point have pushed her in the right direction.
I enjoyed watching this story unfold during these books. It was very bittersweet. I would definitely like to see them again. Well maybe not all of them but definitely Neil and Kate. They are the ones I grew to care for. Neil and Kate finding their happiness would be exactly the thing I would want for them.
If you are looking for a great end to this series then you certainly have it with this book. It will keep guessing and wanting more. Then you certainly should be reading this final installment.
Finally the much-anticipated finale of The Killer Next Door saga!
Given To You starts immediately where Taken By You left off with Kate getting kidnapped by Roger. If you’ve read book 2 you know what Neil was planning that night. Neil has always been this amazingly romantic and passionate man and you know his proposal would have been fantastic right? But we never get that far. I was truly disappointed that we didn’t get to see how all that played out. Does he make up for it in Given To You? Let me just count the many ways…
In the hands of Roger, Kate does just about everything to appease him. She uses every excuse in the book to detain him from the inevitable. I was honestly stressed about this. I was worried for Kate, hoping and pleading that she wouldn’t have to be forced by this obsessed maniac. Will she ever be able to get away from his atrocious plans?
She manipulates him into talking about his childhood which came as a surprise to me. I always wondered why Roger was the way he was but didn’t expect that his story would be THAT insane. I have to admit that I was worried that the author wouldn’t be able to make it convincing but she did such a remarkable job detailing Roger’s past. Let’s just say that I totally understand why this man is all crazy psycho…
Was the finale what I expected? I thought that the finale in general was terrific. The subtle clues given throughout the book was interesting. The only thing that was keeping me from rating it a 5 was the ending. In regards to Roger I thought that part was a little too abrupt. I’m not sadistic in nature (ha!) but for all the heinous crimes that he committed I thought he got off waaaaaay to easily. Can you blame me if I tell you that three books later I still wanted more? Otherwise everything else about this story was perfect.
Would I recommend this series? Most definitely! From the very beginning I’ve enjoyed reading this intense and thrilling series. The wait between books was agonizing but now that all three books are available (or soon to be) that won’t be an issue anymore. Because of that I think that your reading experience would be even better than mine. Like I’ve mentioned in my book 2 review … I am very impressed with the writing of such a complex story and I am looking forward to reading more of Carlie Sexton’s work.
Well I have to be honest here… that was one rollercoaster that I was happy to jump off of. Not in a bad way of course, but because this was full of so much suspense and drama I wasn’t sure which way the ride was gonna turn. I wanted to hurl several times during this book just for Kate!
In Carlie Sexton’s third book in The Killer Next Door series, Kate has been taken by the ever so creepy Roger and Neil doesn’t know it has happened yet… Kate had just spent an entire day on a scavenger hunt being pampered at each stop when it happens. Her guard is drugged and she is taken…
I was blown away with this book, there was the amazing love story between Kate and Neil but along with their beautiful love story, you have crazy Roger. This man is going to make everyone’s life a living hell and if that doesn’t work, he’ll just off ya… I will be sleeping with one eye open for a few days. But to me that seemed to make this book effective and kept me reading. I had to know what was going to happen with Roger… always comes back to the creepy and freaky Roger.
The fact that I was at home alone and hearing things go bump in the night and kind of looking around with my Kindle in hand in case Roger somehow got into my house, I could beat him with the electronic device means that I was way too deep into this book. And I was. From start to finish, this book did not leave my hands and I couldn’t put it down for one minute. I was even reading it while making dinner.
Carlie Sexton concluded this wild ride with Roger with an amazing book in Given To You! I love Kate and I had it bad for Neil. Carlie did a great job keeping my attention through all three books so far and I was completely addicted to the sheer angst and irritation of this one! Well played Carlie, well played. You kept my attention from the beginning and I was afraid to put down the book for Kate’s sake… I felt like I was witnessing so much of this story through the writing.
I am now anxiously awaiting the next book, where two amazing friends take center stage.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
Right now my heart is still pounding from all the suspense and intrigue that Carlie placed in this story. From the very first book in this series I have been waiting and wanting to know how Neil and Kate story would end.
This book picks up exactly where the Taken by You left off, which I absolutely love. Kate has been kidnapped by the psychotic Roger and taken to a remote cabin. Neil has no knowledge to what has happen and Kate is thrown it to an impossible situation. Neil has given Kate the perfect day leading up to having the perfect evening when Roger snatches Kate. Roger is a brilliant man and has ever thing planned out and even appears to have back-up plans.
Kate tries to escape Roger only to be caught and he is beyond cruel and abusive to her. Mate then has to make a decision that is heart wrenching. Carlie drags you into the story to the point that you are constantly waiting for the next crazy thing to happen or for Roger to finally come completely unglued.
I found myself in the edge of my seat wonder will Kate be found will Neil and Kate get there happily ever after. Is Roger's plan gonna be successful, who or when is the next person going to be hurt. There are so many levels to this story you have the absolute most sweetest caring couple who have suffered huge loses at such young ages. You will find yourself rooting for Neil and Kate, maybe if like me hoping Roger comes to a miserable end.
This story for me is beyond just a 5 star read. It has so much to offer all readers. Whether you love romance, a little domination, and suspense. Carlie did a fantastic job with character development to the point that even though Kate and Neil's story maybe at an end you will still be craving hearing about her other characters.
I am a little lost for words right at the moment. Ms. Sexton has stunned me with the final installment to the Killer Next Door Series in a good way.
Given To You picks up right where we leave off with Taken By You. Kate has been kidnapped by Roger. Her fear is that unless she does what he says not only will he kill her, but he will go back and kill Neil as well. So she decides to act as if she is glad to be with Roger until she can find a way to escape or someone finds her.
Neil has prepared a wonderful day for Kate, but when she never shows and he can’t get a hold of her on her cell phone he starts to panic and realizes that Roger has taken her. He does everything in his power to find her, but is paralyzed with fear that he will not be able to find her or believes that he will not find her in time.
Let me just say that when I started this series I could not put them down. I had to know what would happen next and if Kate and Neil would end up together in the end or if Roger would succeed and either keep her away from Neil or if he would kill her like he did so many others. The only thing that I wish was changed a little was the ending. I would have like to have known more about the characters life at the end, but I am very glad that in the epilogue that she says there will be other books coming out with the other characters and that Kate and Neil will be a part of them. I think that she has a great set of books on her hands even with all the other characters and I am really looking forward to see what she comes up with next.
Relief, oh sweet relief! The wonderful feeling you get when a stressful situation comes to an end.
For Kate relief has been a long time coming but she isn't there yet. Now that Roger has her he's not letting her go. She doesn't know how she is going to get away but she knows she will do anything she can to survive.
Neil is going crazy, I mean he had the most romantic day planned so he could sweep Kate off her feet, show her how much he loves her and pop the question. But she never showed and now he's frantic and knows he needs to find her. He will stop at nothing to save her but will he be to late?
I have to say I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading this story. I was getting so frustrated because I couldn't reach into the story and do something to help Kate (like punch creepy Roger in the face). Ms. Sexton once again kept my anxiety level sky high and made sure we read and felt all of the passion we've come to expect from her. The only thing that took away from the story for me, was that the ending seemed to come a little to quick but the epilogue satisfied my love of the what happens next and I can't wait for what's next.
This is the third and final book in this series, please be sure to read Fallen for You and Taken by You before reading this book. Do not read this review unless you have already read the first two books in this series. This is the conclusion of Neil and Kate's story!
Things in Kate's life are spiraling around her. She has the love of her life in Neil and a crazy psycho stalker in Roger. Roger is determined to make Kate see she belongs with him and he will do whatever it takes to make that happen. Neil will do whatever he has to do to make sure Kate is safe, but will it be enough? This series is so engaging and captivating. I have been pulled into this story since book one, this book does not disappoint and delivers a gripping, suspenseful conclusion that wraps this series up nicely!! Great series and I highly recommend it to all the dark romance lovers out there!

****SPOILER ALERT**** If you haven’t read Fallen for You and Taken by You DO NOT read my review!!! While reading both book 1 & 2 I was on the edge of my seat with goose bumps and turning pages as fast as I could to see what Roger would do next. I literally checked my doors and windows before I went to bed and said I’d never live in an apartment again. I love books like that; you know the one’s where you think “oh shit this could really happen to me!” So by the time I got to the last page in Taken by You I was lost! I dropped my kindle and walked around my house in a daze. My family thought I was crazy. I was saying things like this… “Oh my God he found her. She was doing so well and then BAM there he was. He’s crazy! He has a body in the trunk, his son drugged in the backseat and now he has Kate!!” Then my worry for Neil kicked in.. “Neil is waiting for her in a hotel room and he’s going to lose his shit when she doesn’t show.” See why my family thinks I am crazy? I was so upset talk about a cliffy! I thought I was going to have to stalk Carlie to get the answers I so desperately needed. She had mercy on me and made my day this week when I found Given to You waiting in my email. Spoilers will be minimum from here on out. This book picks up exactly where Taken by You left off. Yes the body was still in the trunk, the son was still drugged in the backseat, and Roger has Kate. OMG!! Already first chapter I’m biting my nails what is he going to do next? Kate knows the best thing for her to do is play along with Roger and pretend he is who she wants to be with. Even though he makes her skin crawl every time he touches her. Roger takes her to a cabin where no one can bother them for some much needed alone time. Poor Neil is beside himself when he can’t find Kate. He will do whatever he can to find her and get to her before Roger can harm her. My heart was pounding when he finds her and went after Roger. Fists are thrown and I didn’t know who was going to win this one. It’s not over yet, oh no that would be too easy. HE GOT AWAY!! Roger is hiding and plotting on how to get Kate back. His obsession has grown and he is determined to have her. Some of the things that Roger discloses to Kate make you understand how he became who he is today. I said it before I will say it again. Roger is a high functioning sociopath. He seems to be a normal guy who you would never expect to be a serial killer, someone that could very well be your neighbor. Scary huh? Neil and Kate go on with their lives even with the fear that Roger can come after her at any time. The police are clueless as to where he is, but they are stacking evidence against him. However, Roger isn’t their only concern. There is another who wants Neil’s attention. She has bided her time for years and isn’t happy with the way things are going between Neil & Kate. These two can’t catch a break. While others are plotting against them, they are slipping away together to take a step toward their future. Let me just say I loved this part. It was so sweet and then it was very HOT! Everything was going well and Neil & Kate are about to have their big day. The one who wants Neil’s attention isn’t done just yet. When she can’t succeed with him she sets off to see Kate. Talk about a nefarious bitch. However she’s not the only one out to threaten this happy event for them. Guess who’s waiting to ruin their happily ever after. Roger!! The closer I got to the end the faster my heart beat I knew at any moment he was going to show up and had no idea what would happen when he did. This man is absolutely deranged and thinks everything he does is out of love. I’m not going to ruin the ending for you. I can’t do it but I loved it!! I have to say that this one was my favorite out of the three. I could feel the love between Neil and Kate and it has grown with each book. There were those moments where I sighed and thought that was so damn sweet. I love these two together. I also really love the side characters Charlie and Mitch & Natalie and Mac and can’t wait to read more about them as well. So once again Carlie you have kept me on the edge of my seat with goose bumps and biting my nails with the suspense. If you like a great suspenseful read with some hot sexy scenes to go along with it then this series is for you. You MUST read the them in order. 5 HUGE Stars!!
Given to You is the final book in the Killer Next Door series and all I can say is, Thank God! I have never wished for my reader to die as often as I did while I was reading this installment. But if would have only served to prolong the agony.
The story started off with a bang and I thought it was going to get really exciting. Instead, it went downhill and never made it back. It dragged to the point where I was tempted to put it down and forget I ever saw it. The wedding plans were superfluous as were all these little conversations between Kate and her girlfriends. I didn't care about any of it and it had no bearing on the story. I rolled my eyes so many times because it was so aggravating.
Neil Statton reminds me of Jon Lovitz. Not particularly handsome and slimy unto himself (no offense to Lovitz because I do like him which is more than I can say for Neil Statton). This "my beauty" crap was nauseating and made me feel like I needed to take a shower to get the grit off me. Too much emphasis was put on the looks of both him and Kate and not enough was given to the feelings between them, unless it was lust and sex. It got old really fast.
Neil Statton was about the worst alpha I've ever read. He has no backbone whatsoever and is totally whipped by whiny, sniveling little Kate, who strongly resembles is dead wife. On the creepy meter, that's a good eight. Kate controls every aspect of their relationship and carries his boys in her purse. Gag! But let's not forget she's his beauty. *eye roll*
Oh and let's not forget about the infamous Dr. Cox. He's clearly out to make a buck with his marriage counseling and her inane little phone calls and visits. Then Neil suggested they may go to parenting classes. How quaint.
One thing that really did not set with me and probably ruined the entire series for me is after Kate's abduction and near rape by Roger, Neil continued with his plans to propose to her. I mean, here is the little, mousy, sniveling Kate who has been through hell and he performs an amazing rescue and takes her back to some hotel and picks up where he left off just like nothing had even happened. Yeah right. But hey, she can always talk to Dr. Cox.
The end of the book was lackluster and a disappointment. I was expecting a lot more of it than that. Roger had carefully and methodically planned this and it was more like a mere mention of his demise compared to the rest of the story. The premise of the entire series was based on him and his psychotic stalking and it ended like it really hadn't been such a big deal after all. It's too bad because given more time and attention by the author, it could have been huge.
I give the series 2/5 stars with this book being the worst of the three. At least the first two had decent cliffhangers and made you want to read the next one. This one was a letdown.
There are more books to come about the other characters in this series and I don't care enough about any of them to read any of them. I didn't like Kate at all and thought she was dumb and Neil just didn't meet my expectations as a strong male lead. I can't imagine any of the others will be any better.
Holy Effing Cow! Man does Carlie know how to keep somebody on edge and full of angst anxiously awaiting the next book to see what happens. Lord I have seen a lot of crazy and I have read a lot of crazy but lets face it when it comes to psychopath and sociopath Roger takes the cake with those labels actually he owns them hell. He is one crazy son of a biatch and I mean lord he is just crazy as all get up and he does not know the word no or move the eff on! Stalk much..... yes and as we left it off in Taken By You Roger has Kate and Neil has no idea where she has gone off to but he knows there is something wrong. Roger has lost it and he feels like Kate is his and always will be and he intends on making her his own and soon.
Kate God bless her because she knows in order to stay alive she better play it cool and do everything Roger says because at this point he is unstable. Kate is worried about Neil because she doesn't want Roger to hurt him and just when she is ready to throw in the towel Neil finds her and he and Roger go at it. Yes my man Neil is kicking some serious ass and guess what holy effing Roger he gets away!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay so about this time I am so ready to throw my freaking Kindle because I am like what the hell is he not going to get caught? Christ almighty Kate and Neil deserve their happily ever after are they going to get it?
After all this goes down with Roger Neil and Kate are ready to start living and doing things together. As they are getting on with their life enjoying themselves and preparing for the big day someone else has something in store for them. See someone else wants Neil and she is not happy about what is going down and she is determined to ruin it for Kate and Neil. She knows Neil will not listen to her so she goes after Kate. With this someone else because I am not going to ruin for you she does everything in her powers to stop Kate and Neil. But what she did not know was that Roger is back and he has been watching Neil and Kate and he plans on stopping the two.
Will Roger and mystery lady get what they want? Or will they get caught and Kate and Neil will finally get their Happily Ever After? This is a must read series that will have you biting your nail and on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next and let me tell you that Carlie does a dozy with a cliff hanger but shizz when you get the next book you are like holy mother that was worth the wait!
When we received these books from Carlie I was so excited! I've had them on my TBR list forever! Ive seen Ms. Carlie Sexton out there pimping her books left and right, so I have to give her mad props. Girlfriend is working hard to sell her books and that convinced me I needed to read them. So, when I saw them come in, I was all like take your greedy book boyfriend stealing hands off of these Miranda and Nicole, this review is mine! I am glad that I snatched them up. I really did enjoy these books.
The first book in this series Fallen For You, started off a little slow for me. For the first 30% of the book and I was beating my head against my kindle and muttering let's fucking move this along, shall we? But now, looking back I feel those slow chapters were nessesary. It gave background information and really sets up the reader for the all out craziness that is Roger. I am going to come back to Rogers cray cray ass in a bit.
For now, I want you to imagine moving out of your mom's house into an apartment with your bestie. Your gorgeous, in school full time, and have an awesome job doing something you love. You even have the attention of three gorgeous men! Winning, right? Except one of those men is a crazy ass stalking serial killer and he wants to marry you and have you be his baby's momma. FAIL! Run, bitch, run! And so that is what Kate does. But can she get away from Roger The Psycho with the help of her sexy as hell and romantic new boyfriend?
Ok, now I want to talk more about Roger. He was my absolute favorite character in this series. He is a crazy as hell serial killer and complete sociopath. I LOVED reading his point of view. This probably makes me an awful person but I even thought his sex scenes were the hottest. He was one creepy good looking mother fucker and he had me entranced. Damn you Roger! I hate you but your still so hot. I'm so disgusted with myself now.
I definitely recommend picking these books up. They are different than anything I've read lately. The sex scenes were steamy with plenty of dirty talk. The romance scenes were sweet and full of love. The dark scenes were creepy as hell and my absolute favorite part. I should add that if you buy one of these books, you better buy them all. There is no conclusion at the end of any of these books. They read like one big book. Dont get left hanging.
WOW. That is the first word that comes to mind when I think about this book after finishing it. This whole series has been one that had grabbed my attention from the start and I just didn’t want to put the books down. I think one thing I enjoyed about these books is how they are not the “norm” for books currently out there now. There is sex in these books, but the sex in them doesn’t have a huge role in the story in general. I honestly think that if there was no sex in these books, they would be even better. My only complaint when it comes to this series as a whole is how “wordy” the books were. There were times where I found myself wanting to skim over some of the paragraphs just because they didn’t seem to actually need to be there. This is the final book in the adventure that Kate has been taken on since she moved out on her own. We have followed along with her when she realized that Roger is a serial killer, and is willing to kill to be with her. When she met Neil and started a relationship with him. Through her father’s death and finding out what her mother did to her and her brother as children. And lastly, when Roger kidnaps her and….. Yup that’s right, that’s how the second book leaves us, but the third book starts up. It was really great reading this book because Roger had such a major role in this book. You could see as he slowly was losing his grip on reality and that was really interesting to watch. Kate’s character didn’t seem to really change any during the course of the books. Obviously, she was afraid, but besides that she didn’t grow any in my opinion. Neil stayed the same as well, he was there for her when she needed him and that was about it. Overall though I do have to say that this series is a must read. Especially since it’s so different than anything I have read recently, I think that people should give it a shot!
Given To You is the 3rd and final installment in the Killer Next Door Series. You must read Fallen For You and Taken By You before beginning this book. The story picks up right where Taken By You ended with Roger surprising Kate outside of the spa disrupting her plans to rendezvous with Neil. Kate has to fight her instincts to flee and stay in Roger’s good graces in order to prevent anyone else from being harmed. Roger made my skin crawl every time he touched Kate and made sexual overtures towards her. She is also startled to see that they are not alone. I felt for poor Jacob. His twisted father had not only taken his mother from him but has no regard for his own son’s welfare. I cringed when Roger drugged him just so he could be alone with Kate sooner. Neil wasted no time in hunting down Roger to save his beloved once he knew that she had been taken. His background check of Roger proving helpful in determining where Roger may have taken Kate. While Kate is trying to stall Roger’s advances, we gain some insight into Roger’s childhood that has moulded him into the monster his is today. I was on the edge of my seat when time had run out and the time had come for Roger to finally have his way with Kate. I felt my heart race praying that Neil would get to her in time. When Roger gets away and leaves his son to save himself, I was screaming at my kindle ! Just when it seemed like good things were on the horizon for Neil and Kate, Roger resurfaces to complete his mission. Kate at all costs. Carlie wraps the series leaving you with a sigh of relief and a smile on your heart. The series was a roller coaster ride of angst and emotion. I am happy to have seen Neil and Kate’s journey through to the end. I will be looking forward to the Companion novel, Beholden To You, which will explore the relationship of Mac and Natalie.
This series had me in suspense from beginning to end. Roger was crazy and delusional. The scariest part was that he was in Special Ops and had all the skills to kill and to stay hidden in the shadows. The love between Kate and Neil was so powerful. I completely loved Neil. He loved Kate so much from the beginning and did nothing but love and protect her. Neil would give his life for her and in the book you will see that he will go the end of the earth to save her. I was very scared for Neil because he was the one person standing in the way for Roger or so Roger thought. CRAZY doesn’t even begin to describe Roger. All the people that had to die because of his fixation for Kate was sad. These were innocent people that did nothing but just be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The one problem I had with Kate is that she acted like she couldn’t make her own decisions. She would always say I have to think about it and talk to Charlie or whoever could give her insight on what to do. It would frustrate me so much because relying on other people’s opinion to make her own decisions on how to handle a situation is really sad. I understand her tragic past but having other people make decisions for you is not healthy. Towards the end of the series you do see Kate become more confident about herself but still had the mentality of not being able to make a complete decision by herself. She was getting there but it was very slowly. Neil had so much patience with her, and always put her needs first. Their relationship was a whirlwind relationship that began so unexpectedly, but believe me you will enjoy every moment of their love story.
3.5 stars After Taken by You ended on such a crazy cliffhanger I was thrilled to have Given to You ready to go! GTY starts as crazy ass Roger is about to kidnap Kate. She has been on a scavenger hunt Neil set up for hr and is on her way to the final stop when Roger steps in. Remember that Roger has committed all sorts of badness for the sake of his Kate obsession. He has finally found the ONE and will stop at nothing to have her for his very own. I enjoyed the romance and passion between Kate and Neil. While it may have started as insta-love, it quickly grew into a steady source of emotional and physical comfort. They’re good together, helping each other be stronger and honest. Their weekend in Vegas with their friends is EPIC! And the secret Neil and Kate create is perfect. Roger reminded me of Jason or Freddy from the horror movies. He was always able to stay one step ahead, being in the right place at the right time and getting away with murder- LITERALLY! He just kept on keeping on. After so much drama the final scene between the three of them was a little anticlimactic and predictable. I still liked the final outcome. And the epilogue very sweet ending for Neil and Kate. I'm very much looking forward to Mitch and Charlie’s story, which I fear will be very sad. And Mac and Natalie’s- hopefully will answer are they or aren’t they and what is the big secret? And finally Michelle- will she find her HEA?
Overall I thought the series was ok. Trying to get past the whole 3rd person was difficult for me throughout the whole book. But like I said in my previous two reviews of the series. I looked past that and just focused on the story itself. I felt the suspense in this book.
The whole kidnapping was.. Way to fast. I felt it was so rushed! Especially how fast she was found. Then when Neil takes her back to the hotel room after the whole ordeal. They pick up right where they left off before Kate’s kidnapping. They act like she never was taken. It was so unrealistic.
Why pay for a security detail if they are never around to catch Roger??!! I found that whole thing to be so unrealistic. It was just so hard to believe. I felt like it was all to rushed. The way Roger meets his end…oh man…yeah… I wasn’t feeling it.
Ok… This really bugged me in book. The whole bible reading was a little much for me. I really didn’t care for it. And in books where there’s a lot of sex.. To me just seems out of place in a book.
Everything always seem to perfect with Kate & Neil. Neil could do no wrong. I wanted them to have struggles… They got together fast… They moved in together in a short time… Neil hasn’t had a relationship in a long time. And in a matter of a couple of week a month tops…they are living together. That has to be adjustment.
Over all this was an ok read… I just don’t think this series was for me.
Did anyone hear a loud thump? That was my head that smacked ungracefully on my coffee table due to pure frustration after reading the third installment of the Killer Next Door series. Really, it was not that good.
I do NOT want to come across as rude, as I´m aware that it takes alot of everything to write a book and publish it. I admire the author for her hard work, wanting to create something people could enjoy. It actually pains me to say that I didn´t enjoy this book, although I loved the idea of it all.
There´s just no way I am able to make words, such as, predictable, overly exaggerated, unrealistic, and choppy, sound good. It´s just like telling someone in public that they smell awful and expecting them to be happy you pointed that fact out.
Anyways......
The choppy story telling was still there. The characters were unbelievably unrealistic, and the rest was predictable.
The few, good scenes that caught my attention ( despite the choppiness) sadly weren´t enough to change my opinion regarding the whole package.
Even though this one deserved a 2 star rating ( this is just my opinion) I´m gonna still give it a 3 because of 3 things: the cover the idea of the story book description ( since that made me want to read this series really bad!) I will definitely not read another Killer next door book if there shall be more to come in the future.
This is the final installment in Neil & Kate's story. BUT Carlie will be writing 3 more stories about their friends and Neil and Kate will have a presence in those novels. As the final book with Roger involved, thank fuck!!! He creeped me the hell out and you never knew what devious plan he was going to concoct next. In this book the angst continued to be high from the first page till the end because GtY picks up right where TbY leaves off. We continue with Neil and Kate in their journey and are passengers in their ride through the craziness put in front of them. I again found myself drawn to Kate & Neil's friendships and therefore, I'm so stoked about Carlie's upcoming books. I would've liked to have seen more variety in how Kate & Neil express their feelings to one another and their dialogue at times flowed more rigidly than I'd like. Their messages spoke to me, but the words they used I found to be repetitive. But with Carlie's reads, I get my angst fix for a good week and by god does she deliver. If you love an anxiety-filled read and a journey of love and growth, you will enjoy this read! Give it a try!!!
Not sure how many times I have given every book in a series 5* but I have to say that the Killer Next Door series has deserved every one of the 5* I have given it.
Given To You is the final book in the series and it hasn’t disappointed in any way.
Again Carlie has not fallen into the trap of recapping the previous 2 books and I love this about her writing. The author has really pulled it out of the bag with this one and I think on more than one occasion I was reading the book through my fingers. I couldn’t take the suspense but I couldn’t stop reading.
The conclusion to the Killer Next Door series is all that and then some. I mean I never saw it coming, any of it. I should have had at least some clue but no, it totally came from the left wing.
Carlie has the ability to keep her readers not only engaged and guessing but on the edge of their seat right through not 1, not 2 but 3 books. If ever there was an example on how to conclude a book series then Given To You is that example
5 stars of crazy… This series is an amazing series and kept me entertained and anticipating what will happen next. This book had love, suspense, and drama with the perfect mixture of crazy. When I first started Roger seriously gave me the creeps and made me wonder about what he would do next and hoping that he will get all that he did to Kate and more back at him. With Rogers crazy obsession I couldn’t fathom how Kate could find the perfect guy for her but yet she did Neil and they had one HOT HOT relationship. My emotions where every which way while reading these books but I loved it I love when I can feel everything while reading a book and this book did it times 10!! This book had everything I needed and more it helped you get to know the characters and feel like you were in the book would love to see these books as movies since I love me some mystery movies. If you love suspense and drama what are you waiting for do not miss this 5 star series…~Raquel
Given to You The Killer Next Door Part 3 by Carlie Sexton 5 stars
Right from the start I wanted to scream that Roger couldn't win, he couldn't kidnap Kate, why did he have to succeed in getting past her security. All the mental and physical trauma he put her through could have broken someone that didn't think on their feet as well as Kate did. Neil had such good intuition for figuring out how to find them. It was very clear that Roger had the capacity to outmaneuver all the security that had been set up to protect them, even in their own home. The love story between Kate and Neil really was enjoyable to read, their chemistry and how the survive each of the trials they go through together seems to have set a good foundation for how they will handle their marriage. I really thought this book (part 3) was the best written of the series so far. I am definitely going to read Mac and Natalie's story next.
Right now my heart is still pounding from all the suspense and intrigue that Carlie placed in this story. From the very first book in this series I have been waiting and wanting to know how Neil and Kate story would end.
Was the finale what I expected? I thought that the finale in general was terrific. The subtle clues given throughout the book was interesting. The only thing that was unhappy was the ending.
This book picks up where Taken by You ends, it's just as full of drama and suspense and oh wow as the others. Kate is a great character that you can't help but feel for, get pissed for and want to help. The author grabs you and doesn't let go to the end. So many things happen you don't know which way to turn. You root for Neil and wish bad things for Roger again. This book is a wild ride like the others and like the others you won't be able to put down. Kate and Neil's story continues and ends with this book but there will be others with other characters (we hope) ..would definitely read more by Carlie. Wow what a great story. ...4.5 stars upallnightreadallday.blogspot.com
** spoiler alert ** If you haven't read the first two books, read them before reading this one so that everything makes sense!!
Holy psycho!! Now I thought that Roger was a little 'off' in the first two books but holy cow he is really off his rocker in book 3. But I will say that Neil of course is the most amazing man ever! I need my husband to take some tips from Neil! I will say that I am glad that everyone's bases are covered in this book and some questions are answered and dang you Carlie for doing that ;-) but the most important people are covered. I am glad that Kate matures thru this experience and that her life is going well by the end of the book!
A kidnapping--A scavenger hunt--A chance at new love, this one's got it all!
Kate and Neil's relationship will give you butterflies, and the passion and dedication that they have for each other is nearly palpable. "The only important dream for me is to spend every day loving you." I found myself anxiously flipping pages to learn the outcome of each scene in the story--especially the dramatic ones that force each of them to face their fears head on.
You are introduced to Natalie and Mac more in depth in this book, and I can't wait to read more about them and their budding relationship.
I love contemporary romances and this series had the added benefit of being a thriller. Holy crazy ass neighbors Batman! Seriously, a decent story with interesting characters. Unfortunately, I felt the ending was a little rushed. Ms. Sexton attempted to entice her readers into reading upcoming standalones involving the other couples in the series, but really didn't provide enough information to pique my interest so I'm still on the fence. Again, a decent series that definitely allowed the reader to gain insight in the mind if a psychopath. Also, there was a fair amount of pretty steamy sexy times and I'm never mad at that.

Great job Carlie & can't wait for the next one!!
