*if you haven't read Survival, Ressurection, or Determinant, this review will be a spoiler!*

I can't believe this series is over! When you follow a series from beginning to end there is almost this sadness when you read the final 'the end'. Thankfully it was a great end that did not disappoint whatsoever. I'm sad to see The Guardians of Vesturon series come to a close, but I got to say I was completely satisfied.

Poor Xarrid. You can't help feel bad for him. His mate was kidnapped in Determinant and they can't find her. Luckily it didn't take to long to locate her, but once they did she didn't remember anything. Xarrid and Saylan have to work really hard to get back what they once had, and her trauma from being kidnapped threatens them ever having that relationship back.

It was great getting a glimpse into the characters lives that I had fallen for in the previous books in the series. Rykerion and January have a cute little toddler and Rykerion is still giving Jurek the death stare. Rayn and Maddie get a nice little surprise. Maddie is still as strong as ever when she insists to join the mission on Earth.

When I started the book I was like but A.M. what about Sharra? She still doesn't have a mate and thats just wrong. Little did I know she definitely did not forget about the only girl of the royal family. Sharra and Zander have a great bond. I love that the series has soulmates and Sharra finally ran into hers. They are both powerful Guardians and a great match.

I love Jurek in this book. Man I did not like him in Determinant he was a jerk most of the time and then I warmed up to him when I read the Dark Waltz. In reEmergent he plays such a big role in helping the Yarristers. I love that we get to see this soft side to him even though he still holds up his authority and domineering side too. You get to see that his hardened heart still cares for others! <3 Jurek.

The ending ends with many happily ever afters but does leave some room. I can't wait to see where Hargrove goes with the Praestani Series (starting with Dark Waltz). I still think Tesslar should end up with me! I mean how perfect would it be? Tess <3 Tesslar ;)

I'm not sure if I will ever read another book by AM Hargrove. She must have been doing something at least half-ways decent if she got me to read the first three books, but I think I've just gotten fed up with her style of writing and here is why(MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS, PROCEED WITH CAUTION):

She has flat characters that, to be completely honest, might as well be idiotic, love struck teenagers who have sex, make babies, and have death wishes. I mean, these people are supposed to be these otherworldly, superior adults, but they are reckless and stupid and the only adult thing about them is that they get married.

There are awkward placements of swear words, like she only put it in there to sound bad ass and mature but she really just makes her characters sound like children that are trying to look cool in front of their friends by throwing around "ass" and "shit" and all this other bull crap that really adds nothing to the book.

AM Hargrove is American. The characters are only ever in America when on Earth, so why is there the need to excessively use the phrase "bloody hell"? I just don't get it, and it bugs the hell out of me.

There are ridiculous, lovey-dovey speeches that appear constantly. I get that they are "soulmates", but COME ON, this is not some Shakespearean tragedy where every thing they say are the last words they will ever say to their "one true love".

Finally, what is with her need to drop these blunt bombs of information on her readers? It's like, "Oh, by the way, Jurek is the most powerful being in the universe." I mean seriously, not only is there absolutely no ounce of build up to that, but I find it pretty lame that the supreme ruler of the universe is catering to some whiny ass aliens who should take care of their own problems instead of bugging him for everything. Jurek always yells at people for telling him what to do, but they don't need to because he'll do it for them anyway. He's supposed to be some bad ass, but he has little to no backbone.

Rant over, you may now go back to your lives.

I’ve waited months for this book and I am very, very sad to see this series end. I genuinely adore the Guardians and if I ever got the chance to pick any love interest from one of my paranormal romance books, I would most likely take a Vesturion Guardian. This book deals with darker themes than the other titles in the series, delving into PTSD and rape recovery, and is not for younger readers. There were some parts where I noticed that colloquial Earth slang had crept into the dialogue where it wasn’t before. I wish that hadn’t happened, but I still loved this story and won’t harp on it too much.

The plot:

The suspense in this series is mostly piled on at the beginning with the latter portion more devoted to wrapping up the many subplots (with characters who I adore). Nonetheless, I do which there had been a more focused point of conflict. While the main “question” appeared to be whether or not Saylan would be able to cope with what happened to her, I thought that there could have been a lot more done with what the author had.

Thus far in the series, we have learned that Vesturions practice staunch pre-marital celibacy, but this installment there is an exploration into what happens when one of them doesn’t have any choice in the matter. I thought it especially sad when, after learning what had been done to her, Saylan’s father is surprised to learn Xarrid still wants her. It’s not a theme often brought up in YA and I understand why, though I think Ms. Hargrove handled it well.

The characters:

Aww…Xarrid. Xarrid is the main perspective of the story and I admit I wasn’t particularly fond of him in the earlier books, but here all I cared about was him finding his ladylove and making her happy. He has a lot of anger and a lust for revenge in the beginning that I don’t consider healthy, but it’s only because of Saylan and his desire to shield and protect her.

Saylan has been through a lot and it takes her awhile to even remember her name. It was impossible not to feel sympathy for her. I was in torment as to whether or not she would be able to pull through the traumatic memories and nightmares that haunted her long after her rescue.

I love Jurek. The shapeshifting, sarcastic, fiercely loyal, secretly good leader of the Praestani was a near-constant presence here, helping Xarrid to find Saylan, then to aid in Saylan’s recovery, and the hunt for her captors. We learn a good deal more about Jurek and the Praestani in general and I think it’s a terrible pity that Jurek’s romance is in an Adult book, because I would have loved to read it (but I am a pre-established prude and that probably won’t happen for awhile).

There were a lot of subplots and loose ends that were tied off here, making for a clean end to a phenomenal series. Guardians, I will miss you and I have my fingers crossed for a spin-off series in the future!

Now, I must say this is my favorite out of all of the books. Is there more comig for this series or is it going to be continued somewhat in the spin-off? I mean this might be my favorite of the series but I still feel like it was all sorta rushed. But I actually finished it pretty fast. I'm not sure how many books are in the spin-off but I guess after reading that little piece at the end of reemergent I'm gonna have to get my hands on those too. I will say though that this is a series I would re-read. :)

I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review. If you haven't read this series yet i highly recommend you do from the first book survival to the last book Re emergent . I was totally drawn into the story of Vesturon and its people. This final book deals with some darker themes it delves into rape recovery and ptsd it is not recommended for younger readers. The characters are well written the dialogue is easy to follow. I look forward to reading more books by A.M Hargrove.

The words that kept coming to mind asi read this were homogenized and sterilized. But u think the better word is flat. I've enjoyed all the other books in this series, and while I liked the story, I never felt any of the emotion in this book. There were plenty of events that should have brought out an emotion, but the never did.

Waaaay too much love and not enough action.
Still a good book. Although, there is no resolution at the end with regards to the fate of Earth.
I won't be reading the spinoff to this series (the Praestani series) because I'm sure it will be just as lovey dovey and I don't think I can handle anymore!

Wonderful series. I finished the whole series within a week and a half, just couldn't put them down. As with any series, I was very sad when the end came.
