My name is Maia. I'm a princess, a fae princess to be exact. But I don't want to be. See, my whole life, I've always been the center of attention, and I've never understood why. Give me boring, ordinary, and simple any day. It's hard enough trying to work my way through high school. Add running a kingdom to that? Yea, not so much. Magic, mystery, fairies. I just want to pass driver’s ed.
I like to think of myself as a beautiful conundrum. When I am not writing, I can be found surrounded by my amazing family or doing yoga at the beach. I love who I am and don’t mind at all when I get strange looks from people. I am a tattoo covered, child and animal lover who looks forward to destroying peoples preconceived notions of what “someone like me” would be interested in. You only live life once… you may as well make it interesting.
I love to get lost in a good book and hope that everyone will get lost in mine.
Sooo really, honestly this is a 3.5 stars for me. AND I WOULD LIKE TO STATE, That a three stars does not mean that i hated it! by any means! I quite enjoyed this, and i will explain why it dropped for me.
Song Choice: "The Show" by Lenka I picked the show by Lenka because i think it best represents the MC she is kind of an awesome teenage character, she doesn't get all angsty, and she does try to go into everything with an open mind. that is she also gets the song "Pursuit of Happiness" cover by Lissie (Kid Cuttie? Cutty?) and "It's Time" by Imagine Dragons.
First Thoughts: This is definitely different from other fae books that i have read in the sense that they don't seem to really follow the same rules which is fine, but at the same time the biggest issue with this book that i had, and i am actually cutting it some slack on this because it was first in the series about a lot of it, anyways was that it seemed very "surface" if that makes sense? There is a lot that introduced and not a whole lot of time building it up, but if you are familiar with the fae that is fine you will do just fine, for someone who never read a fae book i don't know how you will fare...but its a very "fairy-tale" kind of vibe, which is BY NO means a bad thing, just not something that i use to personally. lately actually i have been reading a lot of books on how everything goes horribly wrong for the MC for most of the entire book XD. Anyways i did find this a very enjoyable, light, fast-paced read
Thoughts on Plot: Well like i mentioned before it seemed a little surface-y, a lot of things were introduced and we were thrown into the new realm fairly quickly and into the position of being a Princess with Maia (the MC), there isn't a whole lot of conflict until the end of the book but i didn't really even notice until about 60% into the book that no "bad" guys showing up yet, and while there were a few mentions here and there a lot of this was the relationship between Maia, Heaton and learning about her actual heritage. It was kind of refreshing how things went for this character as i mentioned i have been reading a lot of stuff lately that it seems like nothing goes right for the MC but in this book a lot goes well for her, but by no means are they completely safe, or are they? read it and you will find out ;)
Characters:
Maia: She was kind of all sorts of awesome, while she gets a lot of attention she doesn't take advantage of it, nor does she become angry about it either and become a total bitch. She takes things in stride and yes she is a teenager she does have a moment where she acts like one but i don't blame her, not at all really. i was expecting more teenage "rebellion" from her and i was glad it wasn't there and that she was willing to accept and learn because it was very mature of it, very different from normal teenage MCs. She was a really sweet girl, and though some things seemed to easy for her, that she learned stuff too easily she made it an enjoyable read for me.
Heaton: He was interesting i was expecting him to be one of those annoyingly self-less/...i am trying to figure out how to say this... i was expecting him to be one of those guys who puts their job before everything, literally everything, but he wasn't, thank god! He was also refreshing in that way, he was sweet, understanding and very helpful towards Maia, he i think was the biggest reason she was soo willing to try things because he was being supportive. He was protective and sweet. I really liked him.
Overall unfortunately for me also as with the plot the characters were very surface here, we have i feel a lot more from them, i hope we see more sides of them, because right now they are ... and i hate to say this but sort of one/two denominational there is much more to them than meets the eye, they are both sweet, and mature for their ages.
The ending: at first i thought it was conclusive...not so much anymore. not too bad of a cliffie though ;)
Last and final thoughts: Look this was a very entertaining read, it was very fast-paced but also interesting read. I don't think that it was bad, but if you are looking for a major in depth read about fae this might not be for you, but if you are looking for a light-hearted, entertaining read i think yes you might enjoy this a ton. I did, i really did like this but for me i wanted more from it. that is why i gives it a 3.5 stars because i want more, and i have a feeling Jennifer can do that ;)
Soooo if you don't totally hate me for my review, and you want to see how i might feel about other awesome books and awesome authors like Jennifer Martinez you can check out my blog that i do with a friend, all sorts of books could be sort of found there, hahaha XD http://theviolethourbookreviews.wordp...
Once I started this book I could not put it down, I had to know what happen next. Mia just want's to blend in like the others but she is the most popular girl in school. She comes home one day from school and finds out that her world has turn upset down, she finds out that she was adopted and now her real parents are back and wanting her to come home. Mia finds out that she is a princess of Ranym a mortal realm. She meets Heaton who is a Pirfent who has a special mental bond with Mia. Mia decides that she will try and see more about her real parents land. Soon Mia realize's she has feelings for Heaton and Heaton has feelings for her soon they are paired to be with each other. Mia travels back and froth to the mortal realm. I could go on about this awesome book, but I don't won't to ruin it for you!! I hope there will be a book 2. Jennifer Martinez is an awesome author, if you haven't read her books you need to!!
*I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review* This is an amazing story for any lover of fairy tales. Maia is such a strong character, she fits her role in life beautifully. I did feel the story could have used a little bit more detailing to it but I know how tight the schedule was for the release. I did find a few minor errors but because my copy is an arc my review will not be reflected on them since they in no way impeded my reading obviously since I finished the book in 2 hours. The story will without a doubt grip the reader from the very beginning and it's quite a joy ride that will be given. A smile will definitely be embedded on the reader's face long after the book is concluded. I look forward to reading the next installment, I'm hoping there is one since this book leaves off a note that will have the reader wishing it were longer. I give this book 5 of 5 paws.
I really liked this book. I thought it was a very cute, perfect YA book. Almost 16 year old Maia spent her whole life trying not to be popular, but couldn’t be mean to people, so ended up being the most popular girl in school her entire life. If she had her way, it would’ve been just her and her best friend, Mike, who had been her best friend since kindergarten.
Just when she thought her unwanted popularity was her biggest issue, she finds out her parents aren’t who she thinks they are. And oh yeah…she’s a fae princess. Not just a fae princess, but a VERY important one. In one day, she finds out that fae exist, her real parents are fae, there’s a whole other fae world called Ranym which is about to be in an important battle, and meets Heaton, who is sworn to protect her for the rest of her life. Oh yeah…and she’s going to have to get over that “not wanting to be popular” thing really quick.
It was actually hard for me to decide in this book if l liked Maia more, or if I liked the 2 leading men in her life, Mike and Heaton, more. All 3 together were for sure entertaining! All the characters in the book are very endearing, even the ones you only meet briefly. It leads you to hope you get to know more of them in future books. Especially those that you meet in Ranym – and Ranym itself – what a beautifully described land, where even the castle is made of a giant, beautiful tree!
This book was a perfect set up for a book 2. You get a very good feeling of how torn she is to want to live her life in both the fae world, and the human world; both equally important in life, friends and parents. And just when you think she’s got it figured out how to balance the two worlds perfectly, you find at the end that it may not end up being so easy!
I will most definitely be reading the next book (in what I am assuming/hoping is a series), and look forward to finding out more about Ranym, it’s people, Maia’s new role in life, and her leading man (and I won’t spoil it by saying who it is)! Okay I just have to start out by saying I love Jennifer Martinez and having the opportunity to read Blossom for and honest review is an honor. With that being said, I really love this book. I love the Fae world and how beautifully it is described. I want to walk right through the pages and see the beautiful castle that is made from the trees. I want to walk through the villages and see the people who seem to love their new princess, but most of all I want to dance in the moonlight with the handsome Pirfent, Heaton. Just to stare into his intense silver eyes...sigh.
Maia is a high school student who gets quite a bit of attention, but isn't really comfortable with it. She just wants to graduate and live a normal life, but when her parents reveal to her that she is actually a Fae Princess those plans are crushed beneath her feet. Maia meets her birth parents and takes a trip to Ranym, her place of birth and realizes how beautiful and welcoming it is. She also learns of the termoil that her kingdom has been fighting since her birth.
Maia is such a great character. She doen't whine like a lot of the leading females in many of the books I have read. Sure she isn't happy when she finds out about her Fae life, but she takes the time to get a feel for it and roam her kingdom. Of course I think having Heaton by her side makes this transition a bit more enjoyable and easier to handle. I think I would gladly walk through a ring of fire if I had the chance to have Heaton by my side.
I highly recommend Blossom to all ages. It is a beautiful story. I only have one complaint, the ending is a huge cliffhanger and I want more!! Great book! Hurry I need more Jennifer Martinez.
First off, isn't this cover just adorable? I love it! I'm not going to lie, the cover was the main thing that really made me want to read this book, but still, I was very pleased by how fun this book is!
Maia is just an average but highly popular girl due to the fact that she is overwhelmingly friendly and thoughtful. The relationship that she has with her best friend is adorable and I couldn't help myself at first, I desperately hoped for a love connection between them, that is until Heaton came into the picture. Heaton is a sweet boy sent to protect Maia from those in the Fae world that wish her harm. Their connection is completely undeniable and absolutely sweet.
My favourite part of this book is the descriptions of Ranym. It sounds like such a beautiful place, especially the elaborate treehouse. I've always loved treehouses, so I couldn't help but sit around with a dopey grin while I was reading all about Ranym. It's a beautiful place of magic and wonder.
The only thing that could have made this book a little better for me is a bit more dialogue to break up the narrative. There were several conversations that were written into the narrative which could have been better (at least for me) to read out as an actual conversation to break up the narrative and help more fully develop the characters and their different quirks and nuances.
Either way, this is a fun and quick summer read that would be great for any fairy lover!
Note: I received a free copy of this book for honest review.
I love a good fae book! This one is just that! I finished it in one seating! The characters grow as the book progresses and so does the writing. It's an absolute treat to find something so simple and still so magical within the pages of a book. Maia is a regular sophomore in high school. Well at least she's trying to be. With the unwanted popularity in school that she's had to deal with all her life she looks forward to any school break. With winter break fast approaching she finds herself sitting in a while new realm learning things about herself she never could've imagined. Maia finds an ancient battle brewing and has no choice but to step up to her role as princess of the fae and fight for their land and people. But what she finds is a victory that may be false. Heaton is a priften (a fae body guard) that finds himself to be far more then he was to be for Maia. Protecting her is what he lives for. With Heaton doing his best to train her and teach her all things of the fae he's hoping they have end up on the winners side of the war that has been brewing since Maia was born. Although paced a little fast for me! The story line was still enjoyable and the plot was written well. If you enjoy a good story about fae and an age old war over a kingdom this book is for you. If you love to read about new found love and its growth this story is for you! I really enjoyed this book and I'm extremely lucky to have won an arc copy. Thank Miss Martinez for a wonderful story that allowed me to escape to a land of myth and magic! I give this book my thumbs up! 3.5
I quite enjoyed this book. It was a new take on the Fae world for me, and I loved the uniqueness of it all. Maia is a very fun character and reminds me quite a bit of the author. The love story moved a little fast, but it did not bother me at all as Jennifer incorporated how fast the romance blossomed into the story.
I loved that there was not a huge love triangle when there could have been because, let's face it, there is usually never a huge love triangle in real life. At least there wasn't for me, and I'm extremely happy about that! And, YUM! Heaton is all kinds of book boyfriend material!
There was plenty of closure at the end of the book, but still a minor cliff hanger leaving you wanting more, but not driving you insane with needing to know what happens.
It's a fun, quick read and I would recommend this book to all ages. Nicely done!
I really loved the entire storyline of this book. I love faeries and the whole average teenage girl turns out to be a princess thing really works well here. But while the first eleven chapters progressed near perfectly with just enough attention to detail and great character development, chapter twelve and beyond was sloppy and rushed.
I have to give Blossom a measly three stars for spelling and grammar issues and the lack of effort from chapter twelve until the end. If there is one thing that shuts me off to a book, it's horribly rushed progress and seeing the nearly flawless build-up to a turning point just going to waste.
What can I say but I loved Blossom! From the start, Jennifer throws you into this incredible story full of beautiful scenery and loveable characters. I especially love Heaton! He is like the best stalkerish bodyguard ever written LOL
I really can not wait to see how this story progresses and what path Maia chooses.
Blossom is a quick read ( for me) but it is so full of detail and entertainment on every page that I literally cried out "NO!" when I finished it.
SO pick up your copy of Blossom today and read all about Maia and get started on the adventure with me!
This was a very fun read. It was officially my first fairy book, which is hard to believe since I am obsessed with the thought of them. It was a very well written and tasteful book to stimulate the imagination. I want to go live in Ranym with the good Fae! hehe
