Discover what pets can teach us about the love of the Master; the blessings of obedience; how helping a friend can help you too.
These heartwarming tales of doggie heroics will teach you that who you are on the inside matters most—and that with God (and a furry friend!) on your side, there’s no obstacle you can’t overcome.
M.R. Wells has written extensively for children’s television and video programming, including several Disney shows, the animated PBS series Adventures from The Book of Virtues, and the action video series Bibleman. She lives in California with three dogs and two cats.
Wells weaves beautiful tales of dogs rescuing their humans from a variety of trials, then correlates each trait to a trait of God's protection, encouragement, and provision for His children. Great devotionals for elementary age through adult. Give yourself time to read with discernment, and to use the thought-provoking questions that follow each story to deepen your walk with God.
This book made me want to get a dog. I loved the inspirational stories about the amazing dogs that were featured. But the connecting devotionals made it even more special. Much enjoyed and appreciated.
First of all, "Inspirational Stories" should really be "Devotionals with story lead-ins". And perhaps I would have enjoyed this more if I had taken more 'devotional' approach to reading it - one per day. However, since I didn't know they were devotions, I tried to read like a collection of short stories. Some of them were very good - but I felt others were 'forced'.
Very good book! I liked this book because Wells tied in dog stories with the devotionals. The dog stories were very touching, and the devotionals helped me to look at “common” Bible stories in a different way.
I love dogs and I am a Catholic who goes to church every Sunday and I am also a Eucharistic minister… But… This book’s just a little too preachy for me.
The author collected stories about dogs and then tied elements of those stories to Bible stories to create a sort of devotional format. I chose to read it as a book rather than as devotionals (where I usually read 1 or 2 at a time). Because of this, I began to feel that the book was rather long. I did enjoy the stories about various dogs (though I did also think that toward the end of the book, some of the stories were not as compelling as some of the earlier ones.
very interesting the way she combines the stories of how dogs have helped humans with the ways God has helped His people as we read in scripture. If you are not familiar with the Bible this could be a good introduction.
Hated this book. Not at all what I expected it to be. It contained more preaching about religion than it did about dogs. Also, the stories about dogs were, for the most part, unremarkable.
